I have a database that has a main form, and from that main form there are buttons that open their respected forms. I am curious as to how I control the size of all of my forms. They are all pop-ups at the moment. It all works fine on my monitor, but when opened on a smaller monitor it is too big and I can't even see the bottom of the screen. The main form is set to open automatically after the user logs into the database and it opens to fit the screen. also, all of my forms are modals.

I have developped a table and some forms reated to that.Since the main survey is quite long, I developed 4 forms to enter the data. Now I have a question related to data entry.Suppose I start entering data for one record and I decide not to fill up all the 4 forms, I simply decide to go back to it later. How can I go to the same record and keep entering the data from where I left?
If I am in Datasheet view, I can easily use the Find option to look for the record. However, I dont seem to be able to understand how I can open the form of that record to enter the remaining data.

I have a form [Invoice] with a subform [Orderssubform1] in it and they are both linked with the field 'CustomerID' using a parent and child relationship. I have also established that relationship in the tables too. Using a combo box [Combo0], the user can select a customer from the form and then enter details about the invoice in the subform. They then click 'Generate Invoice' and it creates a report for them. This all works fine.
The problem arises when I want the customer to locate a certain invoice using a button. I would like the customer to be able to click a button on the form which would then bring up a box asking them to enter the invoice number [InvoiceNo] and it would then locate that invoice so they can generate it as a report again. The user can find the customer themselves using the combo box, I just want the record related to that customer to be found using the button.

how to deal with errors specifically with error "The Microsoft Access database engine cannot find a record in table".Database which I'm creating have table Products, which contains information about products. Most important information in this table is if product is VATable or not. I decided to define product names in invoice table that database can recognize products and calculate VAT in invoices if product is VATable. Problem starts if you have new product. When I add new product in invoice it counts VAT but when i go to next record I receive message mentioned above. It doesn't allows me to go to next record or save record.
I was wondering is it possible to make it that access allows to fill invoice, informs about new products only when i have finished adding all products in invoice and than gives opportunity to add them to product list?

What is the best way to allocate a record number to the end user?
I have had problems where users have come back to me saying that both of them created the same record number at the same time and I am not sure why that is happening.
To be certain, I am using INSERT rather than UPDATE which was my initial concern (an update would just over write the previous record)
How can we check the last value, uniquely assign that value to a person at the point of creating the record and ensure that no one else can take it...
Is it possible that a laggy server would cause these issues? (as the code executes roughly the same time as another person also executes code, they overlap?)

The charity that I work at has many volunteers.
When they enter data they use the tab key for movement to each field.
Can I have the Tab Key STOP on the current record and not proceed to a new record?

I have taken the Access Tasks template and modified a bit. It now captures and saves the time and date a record is modified. The database is on a network folder and is shared among our team users. What I would like to do next is make it,
1- capture and record on my Tasks table the user name of who created the record by using the fOSUserName() function. I have the table fields "Created by" and the VB code in a module. This would happen only once when the record is created.
I would also like to do this with the machine name for which I have the module too. fOSMachineName()
and,
2- capture and record the user name of who modified a record. For this I also have a field in my task table "Last Modified By" and i hope i can use the same fOSUerNmae() function.
I got to the point where I put an unbounded text box with the =fOSUserName() in it and it does show the user name but how do i get to record to my task table?how the template removes the tasks that are completed from the task list as soon as it is updated to completed? how can I make this happen with a cancelled option after I add it to the drop down list?

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
DoCmd.PrintOut acSelection
But what I need is that before printing, open the preview to set the margins and page size ... or at least to pre-configure so that when you press the button, and comes preformatted.

I have a database for mutli users which is split. Front end is available separately for 3 users. These users make data entry in the same form from their front end form. This particular form has combo box that retrieves data based on selection in combo box and the use starts filling the data in the subform. Upto this, form is Ok, no problems seen.
But when the second user opens the same form from the split database front end stored in his computer, and once the second user selects another record from the combo box, first user's record also changes immediately to the record of Second user. Both users now have the same record even though the form is separately accessed from front end.

I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.

Hi guys,
I've seen different log in forms and tips on multi-user use but can't seem to find info on the following...
We have 6 people at work and I'd like to assign which user updated a form or created a new record...this would be particularly useful on the sales part of the database to track who made a call to a particular customer...
Best ideas anyone?

I have a problem in multi user enviroment, with finding and locking a record in database. When one user finds, blocks and edit record ... another user in the same time can find the same record and overwrite it (User and Status values). It is just like he didn't see the changes making by another user. Each user have a copy of the front-end, back-end is on the shared disk. Here is the code to find new record:
Code:
...
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("tblTable1", dbOpenDynaset)
rs.FindFirst "[Status]='New' And [User] Is Null"
ws.BeginTrans
rs.LockEdits = True
rs.Edit
rs![User] = username
rs![Status] = "Assigned"
rs.Update
ws.CommitTrans
rs.Close

Hi
I am looking for help related to the “You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able to save them later.” message when trying to change the design. I have done a lot of reading on this forum as well as googled the subject but have not found anything regarding my specific question. I find that there’s a whole lot of information regarding workgroup security and how to set up and troubleshoot. However, my needs are a bit more simple – I think :) We have a database that is shared among 5-6 users during a couple months out of the year. There are no log-on id’s required and everyone just opens the file and works as needed. Everything works fine; we have no problems with users changing or doing more than they are supposed to. Therefore, I don’t want to break anything by complicating matters…it works and we’re happy with it. The only annoyance is that during these couple months, someone has to make occasional changes to the database in design mode. Of course, we need everyone else out of the database so he can have exclusive access. This entails calling and/or running around asking those people to close the file and sometimes physically checking computers left unattended with the file open. So my question is: Is there any way to find out what users or workstations have the file open? This would make it so much simpler. All the users are on a Windows Server 2003 network and the files reside on a server. Perhaps this is more of a Windows question; I couldn’t think where else to post it! If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

I have a split db in use by about 20 people. Ocasionally a user opens a record that is already opened by some other user and if changes are made then he gets error 7878; "the data has changed error"
Is it possible to find out which records are actually being used/open/edited in a split db? All tables are related to the main key (CallID on table Contacts).
If it was possible to find out, I could have a label show up in the db record search form telling the user not to open that record.

We have a new user who is unable to get into a database. Another user in the same office had no problems.
The other user is using:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerNameShareNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb
The new user was not able to access the share at all using ServerNameShareNameSFTP until he changed the path to:
"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb"
Now he can get into the SFTP folder, but when he uses the shortcut, he gets an error stating Microsoft Access couldn't find the file ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw 1" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb" (Note the space and 1)
I created a new shortcut, and I was able to open the db using his target line, even though I can use the shorter one. For the new user, this still generates an error.

Using Access 2007 DB windows 7..Main form on open of db collects the username from the environ. text Field(networkid) is populated on form from the function
1. On Open of DB it opens with a frmuserid which contains a text box holding the network ID which is derived from function fosusername()
2. The value of Forms!frmuserid!networkid (frmuserid! is the form that opens when the DB is 1st opened) is populated with the fosusername() in the networkid text box
I seem to only be having the issue of the db opeing with my network ID no matter who opens the db. Somehow I need to shut off that 1st ID when close db or update the form field on open.
