Conversion Of MS Access Forms/Modules To Visual Studio (VB)

May 29, 2005

Is there any way of converting MS Access Forms(And module behind) to Visual Studio.Net?

I have a pretty comprehensive MS Access DB that has several complex forms. I want to redo this DB App in Visual Studio.Net but don't want to recreate the forms from scratch if there is any way of converting/importing or any shortcuts/tricks to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mitch

Side note: Anyone ever added credit card billing capabilities to their db? Where to start? (I know.... Post in another thread....)

Access Developer Extensions And Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition

Jan 1, 2007

I have developed an Access mdb file with lots of tables, forms, queries, reports, and VBA code. I want to be able to distribute this to Access-less users. I understand that the Access Developer Extensions enable this to be done and that the two wizards assist.

My first question is this: Are the Access Developer Extensions and the two wizards included in Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition?

I ask because this is what was recommended by a Microsoft representative and is what I’ve purchased. This came along with something called MSDN Library, but I’m not sure what that allows me so it is possible that this library will contain the elements that I’m searching for, but so far I’ve not found it.

Are the Access Developer Extensions only provided as part of the Visual Studio for Microsoft Office Tool package, as I’ve seen referenced in several forums and articles, including yours, or are these in fact part of other tools, such as the Professional Edition of Visual Studio that I’ve purchased?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Modules & VBA :: Convert To Excel Files And Import Into Access Database

Aug 7, 2015

I have files that have extension of TSV which are text files but viewable in exel. I figured out a way for the user to click on a button in Access which does the following

1. Run Macro in Excel: The macro prompts the user to select the TSV file. After selection, macro opens the employee.tsv file in the excel (with excel being invisible) and saves it as employee.xls

Code:
Sub SaveTSVtoXLS()
Dim myPath As String
Dim myString As Variant
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
With Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogOpen)

[Code] .....

2. Imports the Excel file (employee.xls) into two tables: tblEmployee and tblDepartment using the following codes.

Code:
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel12Xml, "qryDepartment", selectFile, True - 1, "A1:C2"
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel12Xml, "qryEmployee", selectFile, True - 1, "A1:AE2"

Everything is working flawless except that the user has to select the file three times:

1 time for the tsv
2 times for the xls file

Is there a way that the user can select the file only once (tsv file) or at least only twice one of the tsv file and the other for the xls file?

General :: Import Csv Files With Same Named Structure?

I need to daily import files that start with same name, but the remaining part will be Bill of lading ID (e.g. TEST_BOL 1234.csv). The next day will be TEST_BOL 1235.csv) and so on. I need for Access to import the file based on the "TEST_BOL" into my database and then delete the file from the folder. I don't know how to initialize Access to look for the prefix and import in.

General :: Connecting Access Database To Website To Import Data Automatically

Jun 30, 2015

I just created a database and need to connect it to the data source. The data comes from a http website (intranet from work). When I open the link using firefox, I can view the website with the data in it, but when I open it from Internet Explorer, I get a save as pop-up message to save a csv file which contains all the data. The extension of the http website ends with csv. So it is something like http (slash slash...) Intranetname/referral_dbase.csv

Currently, I am opening the file using firefox, copying all the data manually, and pasting it in a text file using notepad. After that, I import the file into access. The delimiter of the data is this symbol: |

I am trying to find a way to link my database to the website where the data is located so that I can skip the manual process of opening the website and copying the data and saving it into a text file and then importing that file into access. I was thinking to have like a form in access with a bottom that will automatically import that data from this link and paste it into a table in access using the delimiter symbol mentioned above.

Is this too complicated? Is it even possible in access 2010?

Import Multiple .csv Files To Access

Mar 3, 2006

Hi I have a few .csv files that i would like to upload into an access db. I saw an example for DTS, but since i dont have sql server i can't go that route.

Since i have some .csv Files where the file name changes on a daily basis, is it possible to upload them all with some wild card function. there is already a table with the fields already predetermined, and all i basically have to do is just load them all up at once.

please let me know if you have a solution.

Import Files Into Access Automation?

Apr 1, 2015

I have a form on access which allows users to upload csv files.

The files can be in any layout, so the field names and the number fields will always be different each time.

This can cause issues on data types, as access assumes a certain data type for a field, but the data may not always reflect that.

For example telephone numbers, access assumes this is a numeric field, however sometimes there will be symbols in this field such as +44. Which then causes import errors.

Is there any way to import these files without getting these sort of errors?

Currently the import process uses a simple TransferText method

DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "Original Data", Me.filelist.RowSource, True

This imports the data into a new table called 'Original Data'.

I had the idea of saving the table structure of the csv being imported (Importing the data with errors, then deleting all the records to just leave the structure) However I can't find a code to change the data types of that table to TEXT format, when I can't tell what the field names will be.

This whole thing is an automated process, which why there are loads barriers btw.

Modules & VBA :: How To Import Data From Text Files Into Access

Nov 6, 2014

I have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.

Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?

Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.

E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.

Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

Sep 17, 2013

Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Modules & VBA :: Import Csv Files And Rename Them After Import Into (imported) And (failed)

Jul 17, 2015

I have the following piece of code for importing the .csv files from a selected folder and then renaming them into 'imported & filename' if succesful and 'failed & filename' if import failes for whatever reason (bad formating, etc.).

The problem is that the first time it encounters a 'bad' file after another, instead of going again to the Error handler, the command

Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "Activitate", filename, True

gives me the default MS Access error, namely 2391. I would like it to go the the Error_handler again ang follow the course of actions and rename the files into 'failed' and 'imported'.

Here's the code:

Sub ImportActivitate()
Dim strFile As String 'Filename's
Dim strFileList() As String ' File Array
Dim intFile As Integer 'Number of files
Dim filename As String, sFullName As String, sFilename As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False

[code]....

Also, how can I make the routine stop cycling through the files after I renamed them all?

General :: Import To One To Many Database

Mar 13, 2014

I want my access database to store information about "tests" and "products" that are in each "test". So "tests" is the "one" and "products" is the "many" (each test has many products). My client needs to routinely send me lists of tests and the products that are in each test. I then need to put this information in to my database

I don't want to type out the information they send me, instead I want to devise a simple form for them to complete and email to me (perhaps in excel) that they populate, and I then import/paste in to my database. How should the excel form be structured so that it is both easy for my client to populate and easy for me to import/paste in to my database. e.g. importing lots of test and product information, rather than type it in. Bearing in mind the 1:M structure.

Best Way To Import SQL Database To Local Access Database?

Dec 25, 2005

I'm new to Access and VBA, for the record. What I need to do is copy a SQL database (table structures and records) and save it as a local Access database, so that the user can query and make any changes on the local file without editting the SQL database.

Looking around, it seems like the best option would be to use the TransferDatabase method with the acImport option. Does this sound reasonable, or can someone with more experience suggest a better way to go about it? Thanks.

General :: Link Excel Files To Access DB

Sep 11, 2012

So I've just started with a company where my job is to manage a ton of data. I am new to Access (2010) and am completely impressed by all the awesome things it can do. However, I am running into some issues with knowing the best way to get my current data (which is all in Excel spreadsheets) into Access.

We are working with about 68 customers in 6 different focus areas (or areas of improvement). To make it easier for them, my company has not required them to enter all their data for each area into a centralized database. Instead, we are pulling reports (into Excel) from 3 different databases. The customers who are not currently submitting data to these databases are sending us Excel spreadsheets with their data (they send a seperate spreadsheet for each focus area). So you can see where my problem lies ... NOTHING is the in the same format. Even then the Excel spreadsheets look different from month to month (and customers submit a new, updated form every month with the current month and previous months) because the people managing the data before I came along changed the format a few different times and the customer has the ability to change them too.

Basically, I would really really really like to be able to just link the Excel files to my database, but I am struggling knowing how to do that with my data in so many different places and forms.
