Apr 24, 2013I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.

Feb 14, 2013I have an Access 2010 db on a shared network drive. All users accessing the db are running Windows 7 OS and have a licensed corporate version of Access 2010. The advanced options "Shared", "Edited record" and "Open dabases by using record-level locking" are turned on. Additionally, the locking time limits are set to their default levels. If a user selects the save icon after making additions or updates, the following waring message appears:
Costar Job Database can't save design changes or save to a new database object because another user has the file open. To save you design changes or to save to a new object, you must have exclusive access to the file.Since I developed the db, I am the only one that makes design or object changes. I know that users don't need to select the save icon to update the db, but I don't want them to "freak out" if they select save and see the message.
Is there any way to prevent the message from being displayed?
General :: Access 2007 - Remove Compatibility Warning
Jul 11, 2012I have a 2007 db, been working no it in 2007 and occasionally in 2010, careful not to use any 2010 items. Well I goofed and added a Navigation Form (2010 only) and then deleted it. Now My 2007 db opens in 2007 fine, everything works, but the glowering Warning message and lovely yellow yield sign show up constantly. How do you resolve the incompatible items and clear this warning?

I am building a simple db from scratch using the limited knowledge i have, and a lot of the information gained from searching these forums as a guest. I've now reached a point where I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so any help would be gratefully received!!
I have a single table, single form and single report (told you it was simple;)). The table has nearly 2000 records and 2000 pictures (linked). On the form I can print every record with a single click of a command button. This is great, but I would like a message box to popup and confirm the print action, as this is gonna be expensive if its clicked on every record!!
If anybody can help, I would be chuffed!! I searched the forums and can't seem to find anything on this!!

Jan 3, 2013I was wondering if it was possible to be able to make changes to a form whilst others are accessing different forms.
At the moment, if i am editing the database any user trying to access the database gets a error warning them, they the database is in admin.
But if another user is in the database while i am trying to change a form / report, i am unable to save.
I no the simple way to do this would be to do changes whilst no-one is in. Its just some minor tweeks need doing during the day.

Jun 12, 2012So a while back I created a database which I use to keep track of my companies large list of products. It is very simple only 3 tables, 1 query and 1 form. After running into a problem with copying and pasting updates on each computer in the office I decided to split the database on a network drive. This worked for a bit, however I had to add new fields and modify the form, which corrupted the file. Luckily I had a backup before the split.
As far as I could tell all I had to do was modify the backend file and make a new front end. However it seems like it is not as easy as I thought it would be. How do you modify a split database without corrupting the files or using a non-split copy?
General :: Cannot Open Database Error When Make Table Option Selected
Sep 28, 2012I linked table rawdata from a database called competitor from a ODBC Database. I run a query with to make a table with a criteria where it retrieves roughly 10 columns with 719,000 rows. And it gives me this error.
(Cannot open database". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.
I asked the creator of the database and they said the database grows automatically and it was created with the same Access version as i am using to run the query.
Also when I do a RUN without creating a table and just selecting and displaying the data it does not give me any issues.

Nov 6, 2014I have some Databases that were created back in Access 97 and have managed to upgrade these databases to work in Access 2013, fixing any modules and forms which broke when upgrading the databases.User access and permissions within the database were controlled by User Level Security (the Workgroup.mdw file) which is not secure anyway I guess, as someone could easily copy the entire database.
The database as it stands now works perfectly in Access 2013, however anyone can do anything with the database which is my main issue. Im wanting to limit access for certain forms / tables / reports to certain users, then out right deny other users from accessing the database.
Ive seen the SQL Server 2014 Migration Assistant for Access, which looks to store the tables on SQL server then map these to the Access database, so i guess i could deny certain users from accessing tables that way, or only allow them to read the tables. However I'm not sure how that would lock them out of certain forms / reports and queries in the databases?
General :: Database User Level Security Setup
Jul 2, 2015I have a database whereby users already have to sign in with a username and password, using a form which them allows them to view a front page. The front page allows them to access data and add/amend it.
I now have to adjust this setup as we have directors who want to view the system, but we don't want them to amend it.
Is there anyway to change the current setup that I already have or do I have to scrap it and start again?

Sep 19, 2012I am developing a database for a company with about 10 users of the DB each using the DB on their own PC/Mac.
The workplace does not have a network. All work is done and stored on their own computers. They do not have a server either.
They do have a BT Business Hub providing broadband both wired and wirelessly.
The database is built using Access 2010.
I need to set up user groups/permissions on the database so certain staff can only see certain forms/tables etc...
What are my options here?
There is money available to buy a server or whatever. But ideally if there is another way of storing it and doing it, then I would like to give that a try.
I was reading somewhere you can use the Hub to create a small network, is this possible? And if so, whats the set up process for this?

I want my own country's date format, without changing my system date format. So I decided, whenever database is opened it should ask for a date, so the user will give today's date and that date will be used automatically on those fields.

Back-end for all the data.
Front end for all the forms and queries.
The front end has been saved in a accde format and distributed to 20+ users. They have all saved this onto there computers and this is used as an application.The users complete a form on a weekly basis on the application and then save. This then saves into the back end.For some reason I have noticed that a few users submission randomly do not save. For the life of me I cannot understand why.All users have saved them into the back end in the past but every now and then submission for users do not save.

Unfortunately when one user is using the programme, others can not use. Following error msg appears. Both back end and front end are running under shared mode ( not exclusive ).

I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.
I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.
My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?
But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?
Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.
How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.

Locking User Access To Database Objects (MS Access 2000 And 2003)

- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.
the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).
the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.
but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.
The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.
I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.
Warning Before Closing The Database

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. Is there a way of programming the access database in such a way that it doen't shut the whole database if someone by accident, presses the cross sign which is right on the top right hand corner. I'd like it to ask the user if they really want to quit first. This way, all the unsaved work can be saved prior to the closing.
Is this possible?
