General :: Pull Images From Shared Folder On Network With Links - Email Attachment
Jul 9, 2014
I have a database that pulls images from a shared folder on our network with links. Is it possible to create a button to email the current record on a form and attach the file it references in the link?
The attachment is a pdf signature. I didn't want to include the files in the database for space issues.
I am using Access 2007. We out outlook as our email client.

I am facing a issue in accessing my db file in server. I just splitted my database into front end and back end , placed in a local folder which is shared in network . I opened the files in network from my colleague machine and everything was working fine yesterday .. but right now i am getting error like "the network path is not found " 0X80070035 which tells that check whether the source machines is able to accept file sharing ..I googled and tried 2 solutions Like turning off windows firewall and enabling NetBIOS Over TCP/IP..

Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.
I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number
The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images

I need to create an email with an Access report attached as a PDF. I am using Access 2007 and Lotus Notes.If I use SendObject with acSendReport and acFormatPDF, it opens an email just fine but the attachment is created with some random letters and numbers and .tmp as the file name.
If I use Adobe Reader to open the attachment it displays correctly as a PDF, but I need the attachment name to be .pdf so it will automatically open with Adobe for the users.Is there a way to accomplish this with Lotus Notes? I have searched this forum and found some options for Outlook users, but not for Lotus Notes.

I am currently using SendObj method to send an Outlook email and selected report as an attachment using the current form's data. This is triggered by a button click.
This is working well apart from having to use 'ClickYes' to outwit the Outlook 2012 security system.
However I now need to selectively send an extra pdf file with some of the emails based on a Yes/No field on the form. This is a fixed file on my local C drive.
I think I have to use automation to do that but I can't find a method of specifying the report I currently use in the SendObj method in the .Add.Attachment line.
Do I need to run the report and then save it so that I can specify the path and name in the .Add.attachment line followed by code which will delete the file? or is there a means of combining the code I currently use in SendObj to create the pdf object with automation option?
I have working code for both attachments at present but they send separate emails and I would prefer to combine them if possible.

I would like to automate the current process of sending an e-mail with a PDF attachment that is unique to each recipient; it is their test results. I'm sending an e-mail one at a time (which was fine when the number of folks being tested was small, but now I'm up to approximately 200 e-mails and growing each year)
System Environment:
Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit)
Office 2010 Professional
Access environment and Process:
1. A qry object/letter is built based on 4 tables (test results, result averages, a global employee list and location)
2. The Report has both static and dynamic text. Examples include: "Dear" [qry-Letter. F_name] and Address Information
a. =[qry-Letters.F_Name] & " " & [qry-Letters.L_Name]
b. =[qry-Letters.Position]
c. ="Dept " & Right([qry-Letters.Dept],3) & ", " & [qry-Letters.City]
3. The report also includes the employee's results, the session averages (testing is conducted at multiple locations each occurrence is a session) and companywide averages.
4. Report Process: Run the report, entering primary key Emp_ID, report is populated saved (overwritten with the next Emp_ID and printed as a saved PDF.
5. MS Outlook: create a new e-mail, text body is common to all e-mails e.g. "attached are your test results" the PDF is attached and the e-mail sent to the recipient (the e-mail address follows the corporate standard, =Trim([qry-Letters.F_Name] & "." & [qry-Letters.L_Name] & "@abc.com")

I'm currently having problems with splitting my database.
The situation as present it:
- I have a shared folder on my laptop, to which i have given full permission rights to a collegue, in this folder is the backend of the db which i split from a database also sat in the shared folder
- I can then go to the front end of my database either on my desktop or shared folder and update tables
- However, this is where the problems start. The copy of the front end that my collegue has (an exact replica of mine) cant access or open any tables. Even if he opens the exact front end that I'm successful with in the shared folder. The following error message appears
"Could not find the file 'D:Testdb_be.mdb'"
the D drive on my computer is where the shared folder 'test' is stored.
Any hints or advice on why this isnt working?
Thanks in anticipation
Ross

I have an application in MS Access that contains some forms and reports. I want to be able to show pictures on the forms. So I am saving images on file system and storing links to those images in MS Access tables so that they can be retrieved and be shown on the forms. Can someone throw light on the effects of this approach on performance of the application (especially vis-a-vis the approach of storing images in the Access tables as OLE objects)?
Would appreciate if responses can be directed to my email-id Satya_Nadiminti@infosys.com
Thanks,
Satya

I have recently been experimenting with adding an Access database to a shared folder (in a network HomeGroup) and have it working on two networked PCs. Then tried the same with the database split but I get a path error on the PC joined to the HomeGroup (where the database resides) whenever the backend (tables) are accessed by a form or from the Tables listing. If I however open the backend file directly from the file directory, the tables all open as expected.
The path stated as being invalid in the error message starts with "C:Usersetc..... instead of LAF-PCUsersetc..... so it looks (to me at least) that it is attempting to load the file from the local hard drive rather than the host computer.
Why a split database works differently in this situation than a non-split.

Hi all...
I have an ACCESS 2003 application with front end in the local machine and backend on the shared network drive. I mapped this drive to E: in my computer and all my linked tables show the E:folernameDatabasename.mdb as the source.
When I install this application in an other computer where they have mapped the same drive to F: , I am getting error that says "E:foldernameDatabasename.mdb" not found. How can use absolute network drive(like \cscrd eamfoldernamedatabasename.mdb) name to link the tables?
Thanks in advance.

I have two different database files. One is 2010 ".accdb" format where I have created a form and the inputs to the form is getting saved as records to an access.mdb file in a shared path.Now if the users want to edit the existing record I should allow them to search their previously submitted record with a unique ID number.
I know it is possible when we have both the form and table in the same db. But I want to know whether it is possible to search with a unique ID and pull the data from different db in a shared path using a command button?

I have a code to add links to files into a field, I recently migrated from Windows 7 to 8 and the name of the folders in 8 are different; therefore the database I have does not find the linked file anylonger.
To avoid this happening in future, I would like to have the option for the user to set the folder path through maybe a table and then the link will refer to the settings in the table.
Currently I am using the following code:
Private Sub AddLinkDoc_Click()
Dim strFilter As String
Dim strInputFileName As String
Dim varDirectory As String
varDirectory = "C:UsersMarco TagliaferriDocumentsBA CityflyerCrew SchedulerDocumentationDocs"
[Code] ......

Hi there.....
I have a minor problem......if anyone could help me on this one, would be much appreciated.
I have a field "OLE Object".
Great!
BUT!! .......I want to be able to LINK my products to pictures from a file.
IE:
Product 1 = AB1.jpg
Product 2 = AB2.jpg
Both images are in C:/images
So...product ID1 is linked to image AB1.jpg...product ID2 is linked to AB2.jpg.
The images must also appear as images in the FORM.
Any ideas on how I can do this ?
Thanks in advance.

i've looked but can't find the answer!! which is unusual as this forum covers everything.
i have a field [photo location] with a hyperlink to a folder within which is a number of images. at the moment i have 2500 folders and its growing daily. the action i want when the 'photo location' field had got focus or when clicked is for the photos within the folder to open [not within the form itself] - either in seperate windows or preferably all together. i am using irfanview to display the images but am easy on this point. i do not want to give each photo its own hyperlink because there are thousands of them. any suggestions as to how i should do this?
thanks

Hi there,
I have a form which allows a user to click a button, select a image file and it then references that path instead of embedding it. At the same time I would like to write some code that will copy the image from wherever it is located and copy it into the application pathimages folder.
Can anyone help?

Hi All;
Any advice would be much appreciated….
I have a db of products which drives an ASP website, and includes links to images, which I have now stored locally (with the image path amended to point to the local images folder) along with the images folder containing all the images.
What I now need to do, is produce Access reports using these images, this I initially assumed would be a simple task, but hasn’t in practice worked out that simple!!
So, I now have local folder containing the images, and the products table with an Image field that stores the local path to the image – How can I now get the record and corresponding image to appear in my report? I’ve tried using an OLE field for the images, but this means updating each record manually (unless there is any way of updating the OLE field from the existing image path field??)
Am I missing something totally obvious here?
Thanks in anticipation!

I have photos stored in a folder on a drive. I have referenced them before in a simple picture viewer I created in a form. I create the file name by referencing the values of a list box on the field.
Example:
The list box has piid.2005.001 and image name is 2
filename = C:Temp" & pidd & "" & piid & "_" & imageName & ".jpg"
C:Temppiid.2005.001piid.2005.001_2.jpg
Each piid has it's own set of photos in their own folder
Now. I want to be able to print out all the files in a report/form. The piid and image name are stored in a table called tblPhotos so I could reference there.
I want to have a button I click that generates a report/form that spits out all the photos in that folder. Next to a button would be a text box (txtWhichPiid) where you enter in the piid and that's how you know which piid's photos to use.

Hello Everyone,
My Situation: I have a form which merges with a table of 123 Names & Addresses. The only thing these records have in common is an ID #. And the name of the company the ID Number belong to.
Now what I need to do is send in an Email the ID# and Company that the ID# belong to.
Here is an example: Toys R US #45
In the records there is "Gi Joy"
"XBOX"
But they all are connected to the #45
When I try to send from the form I get a table as an attachment with all of the records in excel format when using the following code:
DoCmd.SendObject acSendForm, "frmPeople", acFormatHTML, "sample@aol.com", , , "ID# Information"
I need to send just the ID# in a table but not as an attachment in Outlook. I have looked for examples and I seen none anywhere.
If I could just send a table with one row and nothing but the ID# Information, I would be so happy...
