General :: Save A File To A Specific Folder On Server
Feb 23, 2013
We have a server that we use to run a Microsoft Access application. This application creates folders, subfolders and files on the server.Users are in 4 different offices. Each office has at least 3 computers. Some users also work from home.
Users creates file through word, or scanning a document or by saving an email on their local pc.My problem is that users need to be able to save a file to a specific folder on server.

I have some code set up to automate scanning from access to a specific folder on the server. I have searched the web for different codes and have not come across anything that will scan an unknown amount of documents. The best I found was the code I am currently using, that will scan up to 10 documents separately, then convert these documents into 1 PDF. This is not ideal, however, because it would require the user to scan 1 document, wait, than scan another, wait, etc. Also, the code I am currently using will only scan from the glass, not the auto feeder, and I am unsure how to change this.
Private Sub cmdCOC_Click()
'scan COC
On Error GoTo Err_Handler
Const DEVNAME As String = "Brother MFC-7860DW LAN"
Dim ComDialog As WIA.CommonDialog
[Code] .....

In VBA I have set a timer on a form to run a query and export to a specific folder as an excel file.
If I open the database as 'File Open' and open the form and let the timer run it exports perfectly.
As soon as I put the database into runtime - the Timer code kicks in and starts running but as soon as it hits the export line. It stops and then does nothing
I have tried several combinations of either:
- docmd.runsavedimportexport "Query"
- docmd.outputTo acquery etc ...

Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.
I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number
The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images

Open a specific Windows Folder.I am using this code to open a specific Windows folder ..... and it works perfect:
As String Dim folder
folder = "c: Documents WORD"
Dim Retval
Retval = Shell ("explorer.exe / e, / root," "" & folder & "" "", 1)
... but also need to open in the specified path, taking the data "UserName" of one field in a table:
TABLE: "Assignments" IDEExp, UserName, Date
So instead of going to the folder = "c:Documents WORD" would go to: c: Documents WORDUserName ". In Windows and subfolders are created with UserName1, 2,3,4, etc.

I need some simple code that will copy an Excel file or a table in Access to a specific location on an FTP server. I would think this would be a very simple task, but I have yet to find any sample code that is *simple*. I have seen lots of code that requires downloading this dll or that mda, but the examples don't work. There must be something built into MS Access 2010 that will allow a file to be uploaded to an FTP site.
All the variables are known:
The FTP location (it never changes)
The FTP Username and Password (they never change)
The destination folder on the FTP site (it never changes)
The File type (it never changes)
The File name (available from the form in Access from which this will be executed)
I can either produce an output file, then copy it to the FTP site, or I can export the table directly to the FTP site with the file name for that day.
This seems to be a very simple task with no simple solution. Currently I am using an FTP app to get the file to the FTP site, but I would like to automate this. The process that creates the output file is already automated, so I would just like to add this to the existing code as its own module.
I'm looking for a simple command on the idea of:
DoCmd.FTPFile, acExel, TableName, FTPFilePath, FTPFileName, Username, Password, acUpload
just made all that above up and none of it is a real function/command in VBA, but is just the kind of thing I'm looking for.
I would think that since I can download and XML file from an FTP site that it should be child's play to upload a simple file to an FTP site, but I can't figure it out.

I have a few selected reports on an Access 2007 database that users can run. Is there a way for users to view the report, save as a PDF and automatically save a copy to a shared drive by modules/vba coding as an On Click event procedure?

I need deleting a file from a ftp server. I have the code for uploading but I can't seem to figure out how to delete a file. This is the FTP module I'm using
Code:
Public Sub UploadFileToFTPServer()
On Error GoTo ErrHandler
Dim lngRet As Long
Dim abytData() As Long
Dim lngBytesWritten As Long
[Code] ....
And this is the code for uploading i use in the form when i click a button
Code:
Dim objFTP As FTP
Const conTARGET = "ftpserver"
Set objFTP = New FTP
With objFTP
[Code] ....
All that works like a charm.
Code to delete a file from the ftp server, i'm kind of stuck.

hi guys,
i have 20 odd machines sharing the one access front end, however i find that i have to recompile the front end on some machines as the references dont match up. i'm assuming the office install is slightly different with the paths or something. there are just 3 machines that have this error but it is frustrating as i have to recompile and have 3 different copies of the one program.
is it possible to have all of my references stored on the server and they replace the current ones? i tried putting them in a folder and using the browse button but it only updated some references and not others. the obvious error i have with the 3 different ones is the trim function, it always throws an error where i use that.
thanks

I have a button that when pressed it checks a specific file for documents with the same name (example: Test, Test 1, Test 180, ect...)
Code:
Dim StrFile As String
StrFile = Dir("C:UsersJohnDesktopTest*test*")
Do While Len(StrFile) > 0
Debug.Print StrFile
MsgBox StrFile
StrFile = Dir
Loop
The problem with this is if there are 2 files with Test (Test, Test - Copy) It gives me 2 separate message boxes. The first with Test. Then a second message box with the second file, Test - Copy. I want to combine both of the message boxes in to one. So the message box would look like:
Test
Test - Copy

Hello,
I have searched and searched for this but I dont seem to find a solution that suits me.
This is the situation. I have a a database wich is used by multiple users through a front-end. The back-end resides on a server.
Is it possible to select an attachement (word, excel, picture, etc) with the front-end and automatically save it to a folder on the back-end?
This way all the attachements are in a central place and NOT in the database.
I know I can easely solve this problem by saving the attachtments to the database itselve but I dont think that attachements belong in a database.
i hope that you guys can help me.
Thanks in advance

One of my tables has a couple of OLE Object fields. This has embedded Word, Excel, and PDFs. I'd like to know if there is a way to export these to a folder. Ideally, I'd like to save them with the record id and then a dash and then the file.
The fields are Attachment1, Attachment2, and Attachment3
When I view the table for these fields, if it's a word doc all I see is "Microsoft Word Document".
I'd like to save these like this:
123-Attachment1.doc
123-Attachment2.xls
123-Attachment3.doc

I have created a database that saves a link of technical data. Now i have forms where you can add the hyperlink of the data in the database. You can also type information about the data into the form (like location, what kind of part etcc.)But I was asked to save the data in a specific folder that you can select.
So what I have to do is:
Browse for a file in a form.Save the hyperlink of the file in the database.Don't save the file in the database, but copy the file that's selected when browsing to specified folder

I have created several "pass through" queries in the last several years. However, Is it possible to run an SQL Procedure as a Pass Through Query. The procedure they want to run is set up to run a query, save the results to a server, and then run another query based on the saved data. I can get both queries to run as pass through queries, but I can't figure out how to save the data on the server. Is there a way to accomplish this? Can SQL procedures be run via Access?

I'm experimenting with MS Access, and I've successfully split an MDB someone created into two files. I can access the database from 2 computers at once using the front end file connecting to a file server which hosts the _be.mdb file.
Could the _be.mdb file theoretically be on a NAS without any computer attached, or is there some runtime or full version of Access that needs to run on the machine with the back end file?

I have 3 attachment boxes in my table that appears in a form.each attachment box contains specific files (not specific as in extension such as PDF, JPEG, etc.) but specific as in Company Documents, Certifications, Resumes. The issue is there's a lot of document and I see my database growing (fast)...My question finally is....
Can I use a Hyperlink to open a folder within a specific directory where multiple file are located so i can open the specific file need there RATHER than attaching them in the attachment box individually?.?.....If not how this can be done (no SQL) unless that route is very simple and basic coding.
My thinking would be to place the file path to the documents in the table and hyper link that column in the table, but not knowing exactly how Hyperlinks work I don't think it would actually work..
