General :: Export Specifications For Fixed Width Text File

I am trying to export a table (and possibly later a query) into a fixed width text file and I am not finding where to set the specifications. When I select Text File in the export tab, I only get the check box about Export datq with formatting and layout. Is that basically it? I do have the table set up with the correct widths for the fields.

An additional question:

This is a large table with 99 fields for a total width of 804 characters. Is there any limit for the six of a record for such an export?

Reports :: Text Label Conditionally Visible On Report?

I'm running Access 2003 and my question relates to delivery notes that are produced for drivers as reports. These delivery notes have a blank payment box for the driver to complete if the customer pays upon delivery.

As more and more customers are prepaying by credit cards, I'd like this payment box to be automatically filled with a "PAID" text which will let the driver know the order has already been paid for.

The delivery note is produced from an "Orders" table which has a "Paid" field whose value is automatically set to "Yes" when the order has been paid for.

I was hoping to be able to place a "PAID" label on the report which is only visible when the Paid field of the underlying query is Yes.

As things are at the moment I cannot see any way to put any conditional statement onto this Text/Label. The only options for the "Is Visible" property of the text are Yes or No.

Hide Report Label When Text Box Is Null / Blank

I am attempting to use VBA code to make the label in my report hidden if the text box is blank. I am very new to coding, and am not sure how I would express this in code. I have been looking at a few examples of how to get this done, but it doesn't seem to work. Where to insert the code. Attached is the image of the properties for my label and text box that I want hidden if text field is blank. I al just lost trying to figure this out.

Importing Fixed With Text Files

Dear All,

I need some help. I am writing a database for my new and small company. I receive internet orders from my ISP in an email. I want to find a simple way of automatically importing these emails into my "Customer Information" table.

The issue is that I have no control on the format of the email I receive from my ISP. The data is fixed width and stores the information horizontally rather than in columns. For example:

Quantity : 1
Price : GBP 199.00
Delivery : GBP 5.00
Total : GBP 204.00

I have been exploring the GetData option and using the advance settings to align fields. It seems (and I am not an expert user of Access) that the GetData function relies on the import source to be aligned in vertical columns rather than horizontally. This makes mapping the fields almost impossible.

Does anyone have a clever work-around? Either in Access or manipulating the data before it goes into the database?

Reports :: Importing A File And Fixed Text?

1. how do i import a word document as a template to ms access Report file i did Ctrl + A to select all copy then paste it pasted it well u can say good but when u preview its not an actual page size its much smaller and theres no way to re-size it is there a way to copy or import it perfectly to the report file in access?

and the second question

2. in a form where you choose source code (i think) i merged in 1 table the FirstName and LastName i remember doing something like

[FirstName] & " & [LastName]

now when i preview the report after selecting my data from combo box it prints fine i mean merges the FirstName and LastName to 1 box but its not a fixed position i mean i placed the text box above the line "Fullname:_______"

but when i preview it depending on the lenght of the table it moves too left or too right and i cant control it is there a way to fix its position? because if the name is too short or too long the text just dances and i changing the position of the textbox doesnt

Exporting From Access 2007 As Fixed Width Text File

Hi,

I am trying to export a query from an Access 2007 database into a fixed width text file, to import into a statistical program. The query is a simple select query from one table, selecting 5 columns. I am using a specification to set the width of each of the fields (image attached). The problem is with the first field in the table which is a long integer field. I want to set it as a fixed width of 4 characters, but every time it exports it sets the width as 11 characters. I have tried exporting from the original table, changing the data type but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have created a member data base form in Access2010.

That has been populated with 366 member records

I have two text box fields that are currently free type fields, Member Type & Member Status.

What is the best way I can change these to show only the relevant options:

i.e. Member Type ( Full, Family, Pensioner, Life. )
Member status ( Current, Lapsed, Deceased)

I have tried to right click the field but the "change to" option is greyed out & not available.

I have also tried to insert a combo box or list box to show these options. The "use control wizard" option has been highlighted but when I drag either a combo box or list box into the form. the wizard does not activate.

This is found from a lookup table

In the next field on the lookup table is the cost per night for the room, how can i get the cost per night to automatically appear in a text box when the type of room is selected?

Checkbox To Autofill Text?

Hello-
I'm new here. I think this is the right place to ask.
I'm on Win98 using Office 2000.
I have a database that I use to run a PERL script for the record store I work at.
The database spits out a text & tabs document via a query that I then run PERL on.

My database has these fields:
date added
e-mail address (Primary Key)
name
wants
destination

In my form to enter, I use keywords that correspond to catagories in my website (I sell music, records & CDs) and also exact terms for if a customer is looking for specific items.

an example would be:

20060308
tim@couch-fort.com
Tim
*clrock~~*clrockcomp~~beach boys~~bob dylan
1

The "~~" is a separater for the PERL job.

Is there a way I can put checkboxes on my form that will auto fill data that repeats often, while leaving space for some hand typed info too?

Autofill 3 Text Categories In Subform

I have a form for recording site details and have been trying to autofill three of the four categories.

What I have is a Site Index Table that contains the site ID, Name, Description and Type. I want the results to
be recorded in an Affect Table that will also contain text data associated with these fields that I will enter
in manually.

I then have a form with the four fields; the site ID and Type are both bound to the Affect Table that records all the data
associated with each site. The Name and Descritpion source their information from a seperate query of the Site Index Table.

So what I want to do is to select the site ID on the form from a combo box I've created, and once selected it will automatically fill in the relevant text data into the Name, description and type categories on the form. I've been trying scripts with the DLookup function but have continued to encounter errors. If anyone can help PLEASE help me as i'm a novice when it comes to Access

Reports :: Find And Replace Text Across Many Text Boxes In Report Design

Is it possible to use find and replace to modify text in report design - or else is there something else I can do to get the same effect? I have a really useful report and I want to modify it for use with a different dataset. To do that I will need to change the text in over 150 text boxes. I have seven different fields which each occur over 20 times in the control source formulas in the text boxes, because they are used in different ways in different calculations. If this was excel I could do a simple find and replace to change e.g. every reference to fieldname OLD to fieldname NEW, but I cannot see how to do that within access report so am haveing to click on each text box in turn, go to properties and edit the text box .

I am trying to switch to a more general naming system in the modified report so then I will be able to assign data with the required fieldnames for the report within a query. But the report I am starting with has field names based on years 2013, 2014, 2015 etc.I want a quick way to change each reference to those field names to my more generic new field names.

Autofill Text Boxes Based On Combo Box

:confused: I have a combo box on a form that is used for data entry that allows the user to pick the date. This is based on a table that includes date, week ending date and month, all very specific for our business. I used a function that says Me.txtBox=ComboBox.Column1 for example. So my combo box would include all the information, and all but the actual date is not visible. I want this to feed into another table that will be used for reporting, and that table has the same fields of date, week ending date and month. I keep getting an error saying that the value selected from the combo box doesn't fit the criteria, and I believe what is going on is that it is taking all the fields instead of just the date. Any suggestions how I can still have the text boxes update if I only have the date in the combo box?:confused:

i am making a form which has a help link on it;

the help link is basically a label using this code:

this makes the help_pop label appear visible (as it's visibility is false)

ok so i have that bit sorted, now i want to be able to click the help link agian to make the help_pop label disappear..

Vertical Text Label

I have a text label that I would like to have vertical instead of horizontal. In the properties box, I go to the other tab and set 'Vertical' to yes and the text rotates. Except it rotates 90 degrees clockwise. (The text starts at the upper right corner and reads down, you have to tilt your head to the right to read it.) This seems the wrong direction to me and to my office mate - all the tables we've seen with vertical text has the text rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise (text starting from the lower left corner and reads up, you have to tilt you head to the left to read it.)

Is there any way I can make the text rotate counterclockwise instead of clockwise? I really don't want to create many little graphics.

General :: Export Query Or Report To A Delimited Text File

A little background. I need to export the results of a query I use to build a report. For Print Master software I need the "Field Names" in the text file as well as the data for a Mail Merge in Print Master (PM).

"The field name information in the file you have specified is missing or not correctly formatted. The first line of the file must contain the database field names. Make sure the "Export Field Names" (or similar) option is selected in the program from which you are exporting data."

Trouble is, when trying to export the report or query, Access has no "Export Field Names" option. It works if I first export to Excel and then from Excel to "txt" then to Printmaster. I would like to eliminate the Excel step. Therefore, how do or can I get Access Export to transfer the "Field Names" along with the field data?
