Generate Word Document

Jan 26, 2006

Hello all,

Is there a way that I could put a command button on my form and on clicking it, it would generate a word document (I have a word document saved) but on the word document, it would populate the address field with the information on the form. I have about 5 fields on the form that will be used in the word document.

I thought about creating a report in access instead, but I might want to edit the word document manually, is there a way to do this?

Thanks much.

Adding Word Files

Feb 24, 2006

Hi there,

I am just contimplating the best way to add word files into my database. I know you can add them as objects, however when they appear on the form they seem a bit 'messy'.

Does anyone have anytips how to make this look more professional, perhaps the use of links, or buttons?

Many thanks in advance, Ross

Calling A Query Using .mde Files And Merged Word Documents.

Jan 17, 2007

Hi,

My situation:

A front end written in Access (back end mySQL).
I have made a .mde file out of this front end.
There are a number of MS Word documents used (as merge documents) for running reports and letters that are linked to queries in the database. However, I can only link these documents to the original .MDB file as you can't link to the queries ni the .mde file.

This works fine until you have a query that requires a parameter from a form. The user will have selected the parameter from the .mde version of the front end that they are using but the query which is being called from the .mdb version (by the Word merge document) can't see this parameter because it is a totally separate database.

How can I get around this problem?

Sorry this is a lengthy post, hope it makes sense.

Matt.

The Word files already have some text in them so i want to set up variables to insert the details in the right place.

Need Your Opinion - Store/retrieve Word And Excel Files In Access 2003

Sep 4, 2007

Folks I need your help; just wanted to get your opinions here.

I work in a small engineering group and we have lots of reference documents in word and excel which we typically use for any projects. Currently, all these files are stored in Lotus Notes database. Unfortunately, they are pulling the plug on Notes license starting this fall. Therefore, I have been asked to see if there is a way we can store these files in Access as a repository and query the database whenever we need some information.

In order to avoid the database size getting too big, my thought was to store the .xls/.doc files as an “OLE object” data type, keep the files in local hard drive and create a link in a form to give the user to retrieve the information.

Do any of you have any suggestion on what is the best way to handle this?

Your input is highly appreciated.

Shan.

Receipt Numbers

Oct 16, 2006

Soon I'll be starting a new DB which will be used to issue receipts to people who attend courses run by a business. I don't want or need it to be very complicated so was thinking a something like the following;
TblClient (ID,client name & address fields)
TblCourse (ID,Date, course name & Price fields)

Each client will eventually have numerous (many) Course records because they often complete more than one course, over many years.
When I issue clients with Receipts I want each receipt to have a unique receipt number.
On each receipt I will need the Client name, Price paid, date(s) & course name(s) with the unique receipt number. How can I impliment the receipt number?

Special Printer Control Characters

I have created POS application for my business that uses an Epson TM-U220 Series (Type B) receipt printer with tear off. I have formatted a report from my Access db as a receipt, but I need to send the hex string "1B69" in order to activate the paper cutter after the report prints.

How do I do that?

And when I give the print out some unknown characters keep on coming continuously which I had to switch off the printer to abort printing. What do you think is the reason. Is it something to do with the font size?

Please help me......... Im in real trouble

"Embed" Word Or Other Files Within A Database

Mar 8, 2006

Hi everyone

I know it's possible to use Access to create a Word document and think it's possible to have a button (or combobox) open a Word document saved on the hard drive. If I'm correct with the second belief, the Word file(s) would need to be moved with the Access database if it's moved to another directory or PC.

Is it possible to save the Word (or other) files within the database itself so simply moving the database to another directory or PC would take the "embedded" files with it? I realise that the database file size will increase, but suspect that this increase would be similar to the size of the individual Word files.

Thanks for your time.

Modules & VBA :: Open Cash Drawers Attached To Receipt Printer EPSON T-20

We have an Access database that opened some cash drawers attached to the computer through USB and it is working perfectly. We have some of the cash drawers that are attached to the EPSON Receipt printer and we also want to open those Cash Drawers attached to the receipt printer. Looking for code to open the cash drawer attached to the receipt printer, Is there any command available that I could send to the receipt printer and it would open the Cash Drawer.

I have also taken the screenshot of the utility program that will show the information regarding the printer and I am very expecting to get this working soon as we have build the Microsoft Access database that would checking the cash drawer status and also open the USB cash drawers.

Word :: Sizing MS Word Table To Same Size As Recordset

Aug 14, 2014

My end goal is to populate a pre-existing table in an MS Word document with records from a query. The easiest way I've found (through scouring the internet) is to start with the code below (ran during OnClick() even in Access) to get the table the same size as the recordset:

Code:
Dim wDoc As Word.Document
Dim wTable As Word.Table
Dim wCell As Word.Cell
Set wDoc = appWord.Documents.Add(strDocLoc)
wDoc.Visible = True

[Code] ....

The code will shrink the table down just fine if the table has more rows than the recordset +1 (for header column). My hangup with this is the last line ("Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5") isn't executing; rows are not being added to the table. I get no errors -- it just does nothing. I set it as "Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5" arbitrarily just to see if it would even add rows, and sure enough it's not.

Generate Many-to-many Relationship

Apr 19, 2006

I have a single table called "Books". One column is "Book title" and one is "Author(s)".

One author may have written several books, and one book may be co-authored by several authors.

It should be ok to use the analyze function to normalize the table into 3 tables. (autors, books and booksauthors_xref)

The problem is that the Authors-column contains one or more autors separated by ;

When I use the analyze function I only get the first autor in the join table. Since authors "AA ; BB" are treated as one, not to entities I had to split the field into a "co-autor" column and manually add one and one co author.

Is it a smarter vay to do the normalization?

Generate A Report Via VBA?

Jun 14, 2006

Hi,

I have the following very general question, but I hope you can give me a few hints so I can start and find things out on my way.

I just created a database which via VBA procedures runs all kinds of queries and puts the results in tables, for instance I have about 20 tables now with 10 fields each and for every table I want to run the same type of report.
I already made one report for one table via the report wizard, I would like to use the layout of this table for all other tables using a VBA code, so when I run this code it will create all these reports for me.
What is the best way to start?

Many thanks!
