Help Creating Report With Multiple Detail Sections
Mar 27, 2008
Hi,
I need to create a report for each employee in my company of all compensation information. The report is going to need to have multiple detail sections on the report for example to list all benefits specific to the employee and all beneficiaries.
I tried using a subreport to produce those detail sections that I needed but once I placed this subreport inside a box on the main report each detail I created increased the size of the box. I also thought about making the detail section a list box and writing all of the information there. Would there be a better or easy way to accomplish this?
I am also thinking I am going to have to save all of this information in a table and based the report on that table?
I'm curious if anyone know's a way to access a specific data section on a tabular form. I'm attempting to have each section update a specific data item based on its position on the form, but am having problems since I do not know how to differentiate between one details section and another on the form. Any help would be appreciated.
I have not used access that much, but what I am looking to do is basically have 2 details sections within a report that will have different records in them.
I first used a subreport but that really did not work as intended. It left large gaps in between the records and just plain didnt work.
Here is a image of what I am trying to achieve: hxxp://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9471/accesshelpnx9.gif
As you can see theres two different sections. One is for regular campaigns and one is for extended campains. There is a field in the table that has the extended date. For the compaigns that field should be blank or null and for the extended campaigns it is not blank or null.
Is there anyway to achieve this in Access 2003, if so can you tell me or describe me the steps?
I have quite a limited knowledge of MS Access (2007).
My question is; How do you use sections of one table in other tables?
For example: In tbl_One I input a users Name and Age and then say Weight, Height, BMI, etc.
Then in tbl_Two it uses the same Name and Age in tbl_1 but has other information such as Job, Skills etc.
This is not my actual database, however this analogy works, and they must be in separate tables, even though above they could all just be in a single table.
I have many reports that are structured differently, many are grouped by semester.
What I do now, is put a button on each grouping of the report I want to email from and use the current semester (Sem) which is also a query parameter to filter the report.
Here is my current code which works fine:
Sub EmailFromReport(rpt As Report, Optional Sem As Variant) Dim db As Database Dim qry As QueryDef Dim rs As Recordset Dim Bcc As String Dim Subject As String Set db = CurrentDb Set qry = CurrentDb.QueryDefs(rpt.RecordSource) 'set query parameters
[code]....
The problem is, I need to be able to filter these queries on other criteria besides the semester.
My first idea was to use if statements to skip the records I don't want. This is messy and the report structures are different so I run into issues when using optional parameters because not all the reports are structured the same.
The best solution I have come up with so far is using a wherefilter parameter, stripping the semi colon off the querydef sql and surrounding the sql with a qrydef.SQL = "SELECT Email1, Email2 FROM (" qrydef.SQL ") WHERE " & wherefilter.
The problem is this, changes the original query, and I can't figure out how to copy a query with db.CreateQueryDef If i do db.CreateQueryDef("tempqry",qrydefSQL), I lose the query parameters.
Is there a better way to do this? If this is the best way, how do you take an existing query and make a copy of it?
I found a post where it shows how to create a single collapsable/expandable section. I am needing to do this for 10 sections with a lot of information in between each section. The coding that this post provides does not seem doable for that many sections. How to create a collapsable/expandable subform?
I am trying to develop a DB that is multi user. i ahve not split the data from the forms into separate db's as the users are in different locations and our network can be very slow.
part of the requirerment is to produce a drawing approval form, my current sticking point is that the method i am currently using to create the forms only allows one person at a time to use the process.
currently i have a command button that runs a query and then creates a table from the results. the table is then used as the data source for a mail merged form in word.
what i ultimatly need is a process which allows multiple users to generate these forms at the same time and have the ability to save the form (with no code behind it) as a word document (either RTF etc)
i am thinking that if i create a query on the fly in VB and then use the results to use in a report this would allow me to do the above.....
So my questions are:
1) is my assumption correct 2) If so, how do i do it as i have never done it before 3) If the above is not the best solution/ does not work... what will/is
I have been running 5 reports to gather company information. I then take the data from these 5 reports and manually load them into an Excel spreadsheet to calculate a grand total. I would like to be able to run a query or report within my database to get the same information. I have attached a copy of my spreadsheet for review.
Could someone please review this spreadsheet and help me design an easier method of calculating a grand total.
I am trying to create a columnar report that relies on information that are expressions in various queries. Unfortunately, I can't seem to create them in one query because the criteria is mutually exclusive. I used the report wizard to start the report based on the single expression in the first query. Now I want to start adding the other data but I can't seem to get it to work. All I really want to do is include fields that have the have the value, which is already summed, from the other query. When I try that I get error messages like "you tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression 'expressionName' as part of an aggregate function' and it just goes further downhill from there. What is the easiest way to get this simple values into the report? Is there a way I can create a field in the report that uses a SQL statement for just that field so I don't have to have the report linking to 50 different queries?
I have a report which programmatically sets the value of some labels based on its own internal logic for each line of the detail section of a report. This all works fine and dandy, using the Detail_format event, and accessing detail.controls.item(x).caption.
HOWEVER, when I then embed the report as a subreport (which I need to do), I goes wrong. Here, I get the values of the last row of the detail repeated in every previous one. I'm suspecting because the parent report has its own 'detail' (I've tried giving the subreport its own distinct detail name).
I'm currently working on a database which requires invoicing as a part of it. The invoicing is done based on quarters, and I want the users to be able to use a multiple items form, listing all of their clients, to create the invoices. Each invoice must be created individually so they can be e-mailed to the client, and saved to the clients folder. So I was wondering if it would be possible to create individual invoices for clients using a multiple items form.
I am trying to create a 5 page report filled with colorful tables, charts, and graphs. This report will need to be reproduced 115 times. I am almost finished with page 2 of 5. When I try to start page 3, it appears that the height of the report is capped.
I have reset my computer to clear my RAM, but I still have the same problem. I try extending the length of the report, but the window will not scroll down beyond 22". Is there a way to extend the height of the report?
Thank you in advance, and I will try to answer your question in return.
Is there a way to only highlight the last row of the detail section in a report?
I tried the following code in the "Format" but could not get it to work in Access 2010.
If Me.ClaimStatuses = "Total Potential Recoverable" Then Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = vbYellow Else Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = vbWhite End If
Where "ClaimStatuses" is the control text box and "Total Potential Recoverable" is the value I want to equal so this row which is the last row will be yellow.
I have a report that prints invoices, and in the page header area it contains most of the invoice information such as labor cost, customer info, etc. In the detail section of the report i have the line items, and a line contains a part, vehicle charge, etc. Some invoices dont have any line items though, and it seems that when there are no lines(ie. nothing in the 'detail' section), the header information will not appear either. Any ideas on how i can fix this?
In the detail section of my report, I recently added a second row which has only 1 text field. When the value of the textbox in the 2nd row is null, I want the total row height equal to just the first row. When the value in the textbox in the 2nd row is not null, then the total row height is equal to row 1 and 2. I tried to make the textbox in the second row invisible when it had a null value thinking that when it was null, the report would shrink to the first row height, but that didn't seem to work.
We are creating a report and for some reason we can no longer extend the detail section of the report. It has stopped at 2 A4 pages length and won't let us extend it further. We have about 7 pages of the report, I didn't think this was too much?
I have a main report with 2 subreports. My main report has a header section, the 2 subreports are in the detail section of my main report. How can i prevent my report from splitting up my header and my subreports. (Header section of my main report is a company and the subreports are the detail of the company.. i don't want my compnay name on the bottom of a page and then the detail on the next page.. it does this sometimes. thanks!
I have a query with various entries, pertaining to various invoices. Each line of the query corresponds to a piece of work done, and there may be several lines in the query pertaining to one invoice. I've written the code to input data to a report.
If there are multiple lines in the query to be added to the one invoice, I don't know how to write code that will add those multiple lines in the detail section. Same type of data on each line, just basically pertains to several different lines of work.
I have a main form (Parent) along with a subform(Children). I want to have a button that generates a report with the Parent information as a header and the items in the subform as details. In addition, I want the report to show only the children that were recently added not all of the children.
I'm trying to create a report where I can use a section header as a hyperlink to show/hide detail, but only for that section. For example, my customer names are:
Code: ABC Co. ZYX Co. 123 Co.
If I click on ZYX Co., I want it to show the contracts for ONLY that customer:
I have a switchboard form with a left menu bar similar to windows explore wi th three sections (Configure, Tasks, Print) How can I have each section collapsible like in window explore?
Can it be done through the VBA scripting in MS Access? If so can someone pro vided examples?
Basically I divided each section to three parts one part is the header which is an image and a label (name of section) the second part is the button to click to hide/show the context of the secti on the third part is the text (labels that open other forms) with a background image
