How Combo Box Can Drill Down Results As I Type A Name

Jun 16, 2006

How can i do the following? In a combo box, how can i type in say PEPPER and see every formulaName that contains Pepper in their description. I would get back Red Pepper, Orange Pepper, Black Pepper, Pepper, to choose from. Notice that Pepper can be anywhere inside the name.

I would like the choices change as i type. In other words, if i type BL, i would start to see choices like Black Pepper, Blue Pepper, Roger Blueboy, Green Bloak or any formulaname containing BL.

I presently have the following combo box. if i start typing BL and hit the down arrow, i will see formulas starting with BL. unfortunately, furtherdown, i also see all the other thousands of formulas in the base; meaning I see things that start with C, D, E etc.

I was hoping that i would see every formula containing the letters that i type, As I Type. so if i went further and typed BLAC, the formulas that almost made the cut, disappear from view, leaving me with things having BLAC in name, anywhere in the formulaName. Is this possible? I kind of want to DRILL down. when i finish typing black, i would have all formulaNames that have the word Black somewhere.

here is the combo box after update code:
----------------------------------------------
Private Sub CboFormulaNameFilter_AfterUpdate()
If Me![CboFormulaNameFilter] = "<All>" Then
DoCmd.ShowAllRecords
Else
DoCmd.ApplyFilter , "[FormulaID] = Forms![frmFormulaMain]![cboFormulaNameFilter]"
End If
End Sub
------------------------------------------------

============================
Here is the row source sql code:

SELECT DISTINCT tblFormulaMain.FormulaName, tblFormulaMain.FormulaID, tblFormulaMain.Description, tblFormulaMain.FormulaStatus
FROM tblFormulaMain
GROUP BY tblFormulaMain.FormulaName, tblFormulaMain.FormulaID, tblFormulaMain.Description, tblFormulaMain.FormulaStatus
ORDER BY tblFormulaMain.FormulaName;
===============================

FormulaID is a text field.

Tables :: Creating A Table With Yes / No Data Type Results

Jun 18, 2014

I am creating a table that is a master list of all of my company's product. Each "customer" that we have will always be ordering the same items, but not all of the items that we have available. I need a way to go through the master list and click a yes or no and have that item added to the "customer's list of items on a new table.

I need to create a sublist for each "customer" like individual shopping cats for each customer. These individual lists need to link back to the master list in case of product changes, description changes, and cost changes.

I would like to create a form where the end user can type in a product number, description, or manufacturer number and have that item added to the "customer's" list.

Nested Tables/drill Down Limitations...?

Jun 16, 2005

Hi there,

I'm using access 2000 for starters.

I have created one to many relationships for each of 10 cascading tables dependent on related records in each preceeding table and was expecting to be able to drill down into them in the standard database window prior to creating a data access form to work with.

However i have found that tables 1 through 7 are visible, but access doens't give a little "+" in the corner of table 8 to get to tables 9 and 10. i.e, i can't seem can't seem to drill down beyond table 8 to view related records in tables 9 then 10.

Does this mean that there is a limit to how far you can drill down through table relationships within access?

Thanks
Vince

How To Create Drill Through Report Link In Access

I have a Summary report and a detailed report in MS Access. Upon clicking one of the records in the Summary report should open the detailed version for that record only. Lets say the Summary report has a list of employees. Upon clicking an employee record/link in the summary report should open the detailed report containing the details for that employee alone.

Create Explorer (File Manager) Style Drill Down

Dec 6, 2006

Hello, I am wondering if there is an efficient way to create an explorer style drill down for a location/equipment table I have

i.e.

-Dept
+Finance
+HR
-Quality
+Supplier
+QA
-General
+Etc1
-Etc2
+Production

I have used the tree control to acomplish this but the major drawback I have found is it becomes WAY too slow when utilizing large amounts of data due to many embeded loops. Does anyone know an alternative or a way to program the tree control to only add nodes once a selection is expanded?

Basically I want this to operate as a drilldown of infinate levels with the speed of windows explorer. Unfortunatly all the code I have seen requires that all nodes are designated/Created when the form is loaded.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Forms :: Can't Type In Combo Box

Jul 3, 2013

I have a combo box, which auto fills a field box "on change" for some reason though, even after following the instructions I see on other web-sights I cannot type into the box.

I have:
limit to list: no
auto expand: no

and no other code on it apart from the auto-fill code what I want to be able to do, is type into the box, and if it is not a proper value, I can click the drop down box and select values that start with the value I typed.

Need Results From One Combo Box To Populate Other Combo Box

Jul 2, 2004

I am a self-admitted beginner so go easy . I have a query populated with
all of my data. I am building a form based on two columns in the query: Pick Up Name, and
Deliver to Name. Lets say I have records for company XYZ picking up at location A three
seperate times, location B once, and location C four times. On the form I want to have
my first combo box listing all the names of column "Pick Up Name". When I scroll down and
select company XYZ, I want my second combo box to only display the three locations where
company XYZ has picked up: A, B and C. Then I want the option of selecting either A, B or
C and in a third box, display total number of times that company XYZ has picked up at
selected location.

For example, I select company XYZ from the first drop-down. I select C from the second
drop-down, from the list of three locations. I get a result of four, because company XYZ
has delivered to location C four times.

Right now, I have my first combo box with the Pick Up Name data, where do I go from here?
Any help or nudges in the right direction greatly appreciated!

Form With Text Box And Combo Box By Type

Jun 15, 2006

hello can anyone please help me with this form?

I have a form in which has one drop down combo box and one data entry text
box.

The combo drop down box comes from a query of all active contracts from my
contracts table.
the second box has a unit ID number which the user enters.

All information entered in this data entry form goes to a Unit table.

My contract table has three columns: Name of contract and Type (only three
types): A, B, C. (contract table) and then a column that says active or
inactive.
i.e

Name Type Status
113 A active
114 B inactive
115 A active
116 A inactive
120 C active
121 C inactive

This is where I am stuck…

When a user puts an unit id number and then selects from the listbox one of
the active contracts for the first time is ok. For example: the user entered
unit number 123 and selected contract: 113 which belongs to type A.
What I need is that next time the user put the same unit number in the text
box then the contracts he could choose for that selected unit number could
only any of type B or type C. he/she can no longer choose other type A.

so basically for every unit id number i could have only one contract type A, only one contract B and only one contract C.

Can someone give me some light in how to start this?

General :: Data Type Mismatch With Last Cascading Combo Box?

Aug 28, 2013

Some background: I am making a form at work for a coworker with cascading combo boxes where she can select a Customer, then Platform Description, then Period, then Year. I used VBA code for these and they all seem to be working, except the Year.

Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
On Error Resume Next
CustomerCB.SetFocus

[Code].....

I am pulling a table from Excel into Access (SD0039DA_T2), then I have used a delete and append query to populate a 2nd table (SD0039DA_T). I did this 2nd table because the first table was slowing down all of Access because it's such a large file directly linked to Excel.

The only real difference between the two tables is I added another column to SD0039DA_T called BillingYear. This is the Year in the cascading comboboxes/listboxes I am having trouble with. In the append query, I used ...

Code:
BillingYear: Right([SD0039DA_T2]![Billing Date],4)

...appended to BillingYear. I want just the year (YYYY), not the whole billing date from the original table (MM/DD/YYYY).

So I'm thinking the problem is with the YearCB section of the VBA code or something to do with my tables?

General :: Combo Box Does Not Expand And Search As User Type In

Jun 30, 2015

MS ACCESS 2010
AutoExpand Property Set to Yes

I have a bound combo box that has a query as a row source, The query has 3 fields called from tblMasterItems, The ItemID , ItemDesc and ItemSupplier(related to the PK of tblSupplier).

Column Count = 3
Column Width = 0";1";0"

If I do not put a criteria under ItemSupplier, the combo box behaves just fine. The problem happens when I set the criteria under ItemSupplier, the criteria being the supplier ID, the combo box no longer expands and searches as you type, but the items in the combo box have been filtered and are there.

Summary:

When the row source qry ItemSupplier Field does not have a criteria, cbo works just fine.
When the row source qry ItemSupplier has a criteria, cbo no longer expands and searches as you type, but has the filtered data showing if you hit the expand button (that arrow pointing down in the cbo)

Forms :: Combo Box Where List Of Choices Are Narrowed In Real Time As You Type

I would like to create a combo box (or something similiar if a combo box simply can't do it) where the list of choices in the pulldown shows only the matches of what a user types in. The list of choices are coming from a field in a table. Also I would like the "search" of the user's input to include what is "within" each choice, e.g. if a user type "ber", then valid results should be bertha, october, robert.

Using A Combo Box To Filter Results

Sep 2, 2005

I have a table that has the fields Scheme no, Title, Area, Pole No, Rate No, Description, Quantity. Each Scheme No has a number of Poles attached to it, and subsequently each Pole has a number of different rates attached (eg of table shown below)

On the corresponding form I have ID No, Title and Area in the Form header as they are the same for all fields. Therefore in the detail section I want the rest of the fields. The problem I have is I want the user to be able to choose a pole no from a combo box and show up only the corresponding rates to that pole. So for instance below the user could select in the combo box Pole no YP08 and only the rates used on that pole would show up (in this case it would be just HV99 and its description).

SchemeNo.....Title......Area......Pole Number.....Rate......Description etc
001...............xxx........UK...........YP26.... .......LV01..........xxxxx
001...............xxx........UK...........YP26.... .......HV89..........xxxxx
001...............xxx........UK...........YP08.... .......HV99..........xxxxx
001...............xxx........UK...........YP09.... .......YG67..........xxxxx
001...............xxx........UK...........YP99.... .......LG45..........xxxxx

I hope this makes sense to you. Any help with how I can set up this combo box would be greatly appreciated

Trying To Sum Results Of Combo Boxes

I have eight fields on a table- combo boxes which look up their results in a LU table.

eg. The field is called Communication and its row source is

SELECT LU_EFATCommunication.Score FROM LU_EFATCommunication ORDER BY LU_EFATCommunication.Score;

I am trying to yield a total score by adding the results of all the fields together. I have put [Communication]+ [Nausea] + etc etc.

This, however yields the very strange result of lisitng all the results but not added just separated by a .

ie if I have the results 0 and 2.5 and 6 the final results is 0.2.5.6

Any ideas why?

Forms :: Automatically Filter Combo To Show Only Projects That Match Training Type

Sep 13, 2014

I've attached a rudimentary example db to give an example of what I'm trying to achieve.

There is a form on the db called Resourcing with several combos.

When I choose a Training_Type from the first combo it automatically filters the Project_Title combo to show only the projects that match that training type. When I choose a Trainer_Name the text box for team automatically completes.

The bit I'm struggling with is Trainer_Name. As you will see from the table Course_Details not every trainer can deliver every Project_Title. So what I want is to display only the trainers associated with the project title chosen rather than displaying the whole team in the Trainer_Name combo.

Someone suggested a junction table but I'm not sure how this would answer my question. I'm thinking some sort of Dlookup but don't know how I would write it when it has to include data from four fields.

Modules & VBA :: Query Results To Populate Combo Boxes

I've just made a query to return the top 5 highest grossing customers.

What I what to do now it feed the query results into the combobox values when I press a new button on my form.

How do I go about this?

Queries :: Access 2010 / Query Not Showing Results From Combo Box?

Access 2010. This has worked before but I don't understand why this is not working for me now. When i select an item in a combo box in a form and click on a button to run a query with the results, the query is blank. If I run the query alone, it prompts for an item, I can type it in and it works. I have even tried the DoCmd on the combo box but still same results. Attached is a dummy down DB. If you run the query, it will prompt, select Paper or Rock, see results. But run the form, the drop down will not show the results. What am I missing?

Forms :: Combo Box Returning Wrong Results In Access 2010

Jun 11, 2014

I have an unbound combo box that I set up in a form using the combo box wizard in Access 2010. I selected the option that says, "Find a record on my form based on the value I selected in my combo box." The problem is that the combo box will not always display the correct record. It seems to only display the first record of a group of similarly named records in a table.

Example:

Code:
Last Name First Name SSN
Smith Alex 123-45-6789
Smith Jane 234-56-7891
Smith Mary 345-67-8910

If I select Smith Jane, the record for Smith Alex will display. I know that this has something to do with the bound column property, but I am unsure what to do to fix the issue.

What I have tried: I tried setting the primary key as the first field, but then I could only search by the primary key, which is unrealistic for this database. Users will be searching based on last name. How do I make the combo box select whichever record I select from the drop down list?

Tables :: Limit Combo Box Results Based On Secondary Table

Dec 4, 2013

I have a DB with 4 tables:

Property (used for look-up values)
Service Type (used for look-up values)
Rate Table (uses the Property Table and Service Type Table and is used as a rate look-up table for the daily service table noted below)
Daily Service

Using the Daily Service table, I need to choose a property, choose a service type that is limited to the property (100's of service types, but a property may only have a limited number), and enter a quantity, and have the Rate Table return the specific cost of the service. I didn't think this was too hard in Access (2013), but I seem to be hitting a wall and spending too much time figuring it out. Now I am behind in my project.

I have been trying to do this in a table format, but have been unsuccessful in limiting the results of the Service Type combo box based on the property chosen.
