I have an Access table with transactions that were entered in random order. I need to recreate the table with those transactions entered in date order. I started by making a copy of the table (table structure only) then creating an Append Query sorted by the date field thinking that the records would be appended in the order created by the query. It did not work as I wanted. My next technique was to use VBA code to open a recordset that was created with the following SQL statement:
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM tablename ORDER BY datefield" & ";"
Set rst1 = db.OpenRecordset(strSQL)
The compile hung up, apparently not liking something about the SQL statement. I have done these things many times before during the last 15 years of using Access. I am about to shoot my computer.

I've accomplished some simpler things like hiding fields based on the data in another field but nothing very complex. To the point: I have a report that shows data in both rows and columns, the report has a 7 columns, 3 of which could or could not contain data other than zero, in which case the column is not displayed. The problem I have is that it could be any of those three at any given time depending on what data is available for that report and what the user wants to see. Basically, if a given company has no data regarding column "A", then column A is hidden, but the main grouping is done through rows so all companies contain at least 0 for all columns (what I did is that, if a field sums the whole column returns 0, then the column is not visible). What I need to get working is the second part of this, have the columns rearrange themselves depending on which column is hidden (it could be that all 3 are hidden). How could I make this work? (btw, autoshrink is not usefull for this since it only shrinks vertically, not horizontally).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI need to input a string into a column named "EventType". The code should first check if the column "Agent Name" contains any strings. If there is none, it will input "IBM Director" into the EventType column.
Once it has looped through the agent names, the code will then loop through the Details column and input into EventTypes based on what is displayed within the string.
These are the codes that I am using to achieve this, however nothing is being input into the EventType column.

I think the problem lies with the code that checks the agent name. When I removed it, it managed to populate the EventType column based on the details. But I still need to find out how to check the agent name too.
Hi. I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I would like to take data from multiple columns and put the data into one column. Additionally, I do not want to exclude any data (union all) and I would like to group the resulting union by another field. For example:
Original data layout:
Column Headings: Sample Event, Depth 1, Depth 2, Depth 3,
1st Row Data: 1, 6, 9, 12, 9
2nd Row Data: 2, 7, 9, 8, 3
Desired data layout:
Column Headings: Sample Event, Depths

I have two separate columns in my query but they contain the same kind of data. These two columns data should match but some of the data doesn't. Can I write a criteria that will show me only the rows that do not match.

I am having trouble arranging my data from a record row into a query that will give me columns for the pivot charts that I need. My guess is that I need some sort of a complicated SQL statement, and I know almost nothing about SQL. Each cell will have something like "G00001" or "G00525" in it, but depending on when it was added, I want to change it to "G00001A" or "G00525C". I created a select query to show only the G0000's column and the column that indicates AB or C, but i don't know how to add the letters at the end of my G0000's. Do I need to use an update query or can I do something more simple? Also, if I need to use an update query, how would I build it to do what I need to get done?

I am want to validate the data in a table column as per the data in a corresponding column in teh same table.
Ex. I have a table with column "Frequency" of datatype Text.
And other 12column are in the name of the months. i.e. Jan, Feb etc of datatype "Yes/No" in checkbox format. Default value as false.
I have only 4 different values i.e. Yearly, Half Yearly, Quarterly And Monthly.
If the value is Yealy then I should able to change the value on Only "Jan" from False to True.
Similarly If the value is Yearly then I should able to change the value on Only "Jan" & "July" from False to True.
Same holds true for Quarterly changing the values only of March, June, Sep & Dec from false to true.
Can anyone guide me to do this would be great.

OK, I have a truck mileage database with a columns for monthly "StartingMiles" and "EndingMiles" - At the beginning of each month I want to automatically move the entire content of the "EndingMiles" column to the "StartingMiles" so I can start a new reporting month. I'm assuming I can use an Update Query to do this - correct? How do I setup the Update query to perform this?
Or is there a better way?
I have a questionnaire table that has three columns, each column containing a textural answer to the column header question. Each answer is one of six textural choices that are specific to each column.
What I want to do is summarise the information so that I can read off how many of each answer there are e.g how many answered 'x' in quesiton 1, how many answered 'y' in quesion 2. If it helps, I don't require a summary that might detail how many answered ''x' to question 1 AND 'y' to questions 2. I just need column summaries.

Have a column titled Total Funded that lists numeric dollar amounts. I want to suppress the records in that column whose value is 0. I did this:
IsNull ("0") and ended up getting exactly what I don't want -- that is a query that returned only the 0 funded records. Those are the records that I want to suppress.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I looked everywhere, but the crosstab function is not the one, as that function will put all other data in separate columns, whilst I only want to have 2 column MaxClaim.

In my db I have a yes/no tick, now I want to create a button that clears out all the ticks in that specific column, possible?
To clarify:
I have an address db with an gift table (tbl_gift) and a yes/no parameter for, lets say, 'did they gave me a present with christmas?' (col_gift).
Naturally I want to clear their records before next christmas, now instead of going through all the records and remove the tick, is there a fast-one-button-click solution for this?

I have 5 columns in ms access. They are as follows:
date_from, date_to, season_price, normal_price, actual_price.
However, I want to check if the sysdate is greater than date_from and less
than date_to then the value in the actual_price should be taken from the
season price for that record else the value should be taken from normal_price.
So, i would like to know how can do this? do i need to use visual basic?
I have no idea about visual basic. So, would like the complete way to do it.

I have a table of at least 1000 records. I want to add a new field to that table. I have the data of that field in an excel sheet. Can I import that data to the new column of my table ? If I import directly to access, access creates new set of records. I don't want this, I want my records updated.

I need to combine data from a Yes/No field such that for any instance of a Yes/True the query will show Yes (checked). Only if there are no instances of Yes should the query return No (unchecked) for the field. In addition, this rule must apply for each individual account number in a [separate] table of accounts.
Tables: (only relevant fields shown)
SavingsClub - AccountNumber (PK), CustomerID, FlagAccountClosed, FlagDelete
SavingsClubAccounts - Account, Reservation, Redeemed (PK=another field)
SavingsClubReservations - Reservation (PK), FlagSpecialOrder
The following query works fine except that it returns two entries for John Doe if his account has entries for both FlagSpecialOrder=True and FlagSpecialOrder=False. You can see in the attached image that accounts 8 and 9 both have two entries each. Because these customers have a special order I want just one one row for each showing Yes (checked).
I want the query to return a single row for each unredeemed account. If there are no special orders then that field will be No (unchecked), but if there is at least one instance of a special order the field show be Yes (checked).
(To put this into some kind of context, customers can place orders which may be stock items or special orders, in which case I need to record the supplier, quotes, delivery dates, etc. In some cases they save for an item and there may or may not be a special order involved. Once the order is fulfilled it is redeemed.)

i have a form that will have a column called [animalID] which is a 5 digit number. Only the first numer really matters. If the five digit code starts with a:
1,2,3,4 = cat.
5,6,7,8,9 = dog

I want my form to show "CAT" or "DOG" not 92435.
