I know how to create new table in Access by linking to Outlook contacts. The problem is, the default NOTES field in the Outlook contact does not show up in the linked Access table. Every Outlook Contact field shows up with the exception of that one field.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft has a Desktop Student Database template (Access 2010) that does exactly what I'm trying to do:
open the Outlook Contacts dialog box, select a contact from the GAL, and then programmatically save it to a record in one of my tables.
I've tried simulating the button/coding on my data entry form, but I'm getting the error:
"The command or action 'AddFromOutlook' isn't available now"
I've search high and low but have only found a reference to creating a temp contacts table to import all the contacts.
I have code which is attached to onclick of a checkbox,
What I want it to do is if the user clicks it and checks it then to add some note to a memo field, if the user clicks it and its already checked then it doesn't add a note to a memo field.
Code:
Private Sub Check45_Click()
If Check45 = 0 Then
Check45 = 1
If Len([Forms]![Customer]!Notes.Value & "") = 0 Then
[Code] ....
But I can't seem to add any other lines which make sense to me that it doesnt add "letter sent" to a memo field if its already checked?
I have an Access 2007 SQL database with 20 users. The DB has a list of about 3,000 email addresses that I want to export to Outlook for mass mailing. I've already got the services of an SMTP mail service that allows 1000 mails at a pop to be sent, and I've already written in the logic to separate the list into groups of 1k.
The problem I'm having is that I'm currently exporting from Access 2007 to Excel 2003 format (for some unknown reason Outlook 2007 does not directly interface with Access 2007), and then I have to manually go through the import steps within Outlook to bring the data from each 1k name group spreadsheet into a contact group for mailing.
It all works fine as it is, but it's clunky as hell. I want to automate that process, but I'm not very familiar with Outlook. I'm not even sure what the file format is for a group. Surely it must have its own format, like group1.xxx, or something. My ultimate objective is to export straight from access to the .xxx (whatever it is) format, direct it straight to the appropriate folder within Outlook and in the process eliminate the need for the more tedious steps required to import each Excel file within Outlook that I'm currently using.
I'm using an unbound text box and a command button to filter a list of contacts on a continuous form. The continuous form has a query for the record source and the list ends up showing only what is in the strWhere filter
Me.Filter = strWhere
Me.FilterOn = True
Is there a way to have Access 2003 take this filtered list and populate the To: field in Outlook or whatever the default mail client is? Each email needs to be deliminated by ";"
I have a form that uses the command AddContactfromOutlook. I used the standard example given by Microsoft and it works flawlessly in the form. When I use the form as a subform this command button breaks.

Does anybody know how I can change the default mail client from Outlook to Lotus notes? I'd like to use the sendObject utility to create a macro which sends data I enter into my form.
Thank you to all ahead of time :rolleyes:
I am trying to use
RunMenuCommand
command : AddContactFromOutlook
But i get this error message
"The command or action AddFromOutlook isn't available now "
on a demo access "project manager" it works but in my data base does not ...
I've researched all the email topics, but can't find what I am trying to do.
Most of these topics are talking about emailing a record or form or something.
I have a form that contains thousands of contacts address, telephone, email, etc.
I would like to create a button that on click would open Outlook and grab ONLY the
email of the current contact I am looking at on the form at that time and add that
email address to the [To:] box of a new email.
Thanks you guys, I'm learning...slowly, but it's coming.
I like to store SQL code as a memo field in a table. I then use a form to collect selection criteria from the user, and this is used to create a 'WHERE' clause which is then appended to the stored SQL. This has always worked, but in one recent case the SQL failed. On examination I discovered that although the SQL is correctly stored in the memo field, when Access retrieves the code it inserts a space character in the middle of one of the words, thereby of course creating an invalid SQL string. It's easy to work around it, but why this happens? A bug in Access?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI often get revised versions of a record and make a duplicate and edit as needed.
In 13 my memo fields do not keep line structure
line 1
line 2
line3
Instead they be come one big continuous string of text.
line 1 line 2 line3
At least a space is added before each line.
Is there a fix or is this just something we have to live with?
Of note I am using my office's Dell laptop that was just "upgraded" to Win8.1 why not 10 beats me... 7 was so much better that 8 or 8.1.
I am trying to update a memofield from a form.My file.. sign_midi.asp has this partial code.First I pick up the record I want to update.
And then present it in a form.
"
<tr>
<td align="right" height=10 valign="top"><b>Beskrivning :</b></td>
<td align="left" height=10 valign="top" width=250><TEXTAREA WRAP="soft" name="M1" cols="65" rows="8"><% = rs("text")%>
I haven't seen anyone run into this particular problem on this forum...
I'm importing data from an excel spreadsheet to an MS Access (2007) table. One of the fields in the table is a text memo field able to support more than 255 characters...
Issue:
The issue is that any cell in Excel that is greater than 255 characters is truncated when imported to MS Access even though the field is a memo field. There isn't any documentation on Microsoft's website about this and I don't see any way to work around it other than manually copying the data from excel to MS Access.
Anyone have any input on this matter?
Thanks in advance!
Two Solutions to address moving an Access Memo field into Excel when string has > 255 characters. All my 'reports' use Excel VBA (Access Reports are not used). The Excel reports can have 40,000 records. Speed to create the report can be an issue.
Describing 2 Solutions below to address moving Access memo fields with > 255 characters into Excel.After running this code
Code:
720 ObjXL.DisplayAlerts = False
ObjXL.Columns("X:X").Select
ObjXL.Selection.NumberFormat = "@" ' set column to Text
730 ObjXL.Worksheets(intWorksheetNum).Cells(intRowPos, 1).CopyFromRecordset rsNutsAndBolts
The Comments column are limited to 255 characters. So, the CopyFromRecordset (recordsetvariable) creates the 255 character limitation.
The reason? The 255 character limit is because CopyFromRecordset sutomatically uses the Characters property of the Range object. The 255 limit would not be there if the Cell Value property is used to assign the string to that cell.
Dim sRx as String ' String Prescription
sRx = "String with > 255 characters ... you fill in the rest ...."
Cells(1, 1).Value = sRx ' Cell's Value property assignment can be very large
Solution 1:
The record set is still in memory. By using a loop, a cursor can start with record 1 (memo column) and assign that value to the Excel row / column using the .value as shown above. Basically, this moves one memo field at a time, record by record. e.g. Read First recordset in Access, copy to variable, assign value to Excel row/column Then move next on each Access and Excel.
Solution 2:
An Access Memo filed [RxNotes] can have up to 750 characters. Cut it apart into three new fields that end up out in the very right Excel columns AA, AB, AC.
Note1=Mid([RxNotes],1,250)
Note2=Mid([RxNotes],251,250)
Note3=Mid([RxNotes],501,250)
Then using Excel Object - Concat the cells back cell by cell...
X2=CONCATENATE(AA2,AB2,AC2))
Then delete the columns AA, AB, AC to hide the evidence..Neither solution is all that elequent. Read about this and by golly, it made a difference
ConcatComments = "'" & CommentString
Before using the CopyFromRecordset be sure to add a single quote in front of the large string.
Turns out the interface between Access and Excel look for this to prepare Excel immediately for the string to be a string, not something else. Some of my strings had weird print characters that kind of looked like Japenese characters. It seemed random, it always happened if the string was 255 or more characters (ramdonly, not always). The single quote doesn't show up in Excel, but got rid of all the noise.
When I click on my memo field and hit enter to go to a new line, it moves to a new record. Where do I look?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to pull my information together for printing and also sending attachments. I have a field whose type is set to memo.
I have created 2 select queries, one pulls all of the information together except for the memo field, the other pulls the OrderID and the memo field. I then created a 3rd select query which merges those two back together (This is the only way I have been able to get this to work in the past).
Now, whenever I run the query, the notes field is trashed... All that is displayed is a few strange Chinese characters and that's it.
Someone please help with this, as it is a very big problem. Thanks!

I've worked with Access before but I've never had to setup mass mailing using Lotus Notes retrieving the data from Access.
I'm basically working with Access 2003 with a database containing all the clients information with email and personalised messages and it needs to be sent out through Lotus Notes R5 Release 5.0.11
I've done searches on this site and I've found many codes but I was wondering if there was a beginner's guide to this.
If anyone has links to where I can read up on it that would be great too.
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi all,
I have a list box which has several columns. What i'm trying to do is have a button that when clicked takes the values of the selected list box item and put them into a new lotus notes email. It doesn't need the address or any other detail, just the info into a new mail. I have seen some post's here but not sure i understand them (bit of a noob to access/vba).
Is this possible to do and can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Spinkung.
I Have a Contacts table, when I use the filter on the field that I want filtered I get what I want, no problem, however when I save that filter and close the table and then reopen it it the filter is gone, how can I save the filter that I set up?

I have a form containing two memo fields - Fld_Note and Fld_History.
What I was aiming for is that when someone enters info into Fld_Note, that either automatically when they leave the form - or when a button is pressed - the text from Fld-Note is copied to Fld_History and date stamped.
Any future notes are also date stamped and appended to the info in Fld_History (ideally most recent first) so that users have an audit trail in Fld_History of what notes have been added and when e.g.
