How To Concatenate A Row In Query And Put In Text Box In A Form
Jan 1, 2013
How do I concatenate a row in a query and put in a text box in a form? I have a Query returning up to 10 dates the row is called [Date] I need to put them all together with a space and a comma between them and place that in a text box on a form.
The VEH and POS are just going to be Labels in a form....no prob. Each Soldier's Squad and Team (for mounted Vehicle and Position) are stored in the Personnel Table. The below query is for vehicle A7 (ACTUAL would be the same as TC above). The query works. I just need to know how to get the result to display in a text box. What I'm planning on doing is creating text boxes for each posistion with these small select queries, so when I update the SQD and Team in the Personnel Table it updates on this form. Or is there an easier way to do this?
Dim strSQL as string strSQL="SELECT [tblPERSONNEL]![RANK] & " " & [tblPERSONNEL]![LAST_NAME] AS NAME FROM tblPERSONNEL WHERE (((tblPERSONNEL.SQD)="A7") AND ((tblPERSONNEL.TEAM)="ACTUAL"))"
I'm trying to concatenate two text fields into a memo field using an expression in a select query. My problem is that the text fields together end up more than 255 characters, so I need the resulting field to be a memo instead. I can't change the underlying text fields to memo fields because this is a large database used by others who need those fields to be text.
I receive reports formatted as a .txt (flat) file. Problem: I have to develop a process to manage the .txt files so the data can be separated into its own fields. The layout of the output is as follows:
Date Time User Status Customer Name ID#
06/04/07 15:51 MRF C PTRSNEEO,TBYET L 01234567 Closed By:MRF acvd per xx adv xx of prices on her xxxx XYZASSX TBLTSXS 75ZZ 90/09ds &5.35 XMEPRAZLE CCC 20XX 90/90ds &2.15 UTZXLPIES EX CCC 100XX 90/09ds &2.15 TYERLXP 0.125XX (TPSDTRM) 90/90ds &2.15 MNTYIMPS 90/90ds &2.15 XYZCNITSASLS TTT 20XX n/s gave # to call back mrf
1) The layout of the flat .txt file does not allow it to be parsed vertically. I.e. Vertically: Date and Time overlap the Secondary User information. The User initials are not aligned. Customer Name is directly over the documentation text and of a different string length.
When I try to "cut" the data by the main sections into columns (Date / Time / User / Status / Customer Name / ID#) to import into Access the text in the documentation fields is "cut" into those sections as well.
I want to be able to reconstruct the text sections that are split apart into a single "cell" that can be exported to Excel or used within Access.
2) Also, some records have 1 line of text, others 2...up to 8. Each individual line of text ends up in its own cell. How can I "code" Access to read to the end of the last line of text (last cell) of the record and then concatenate the text in those cells into one continuous string of text in a single cell?
At the end of each record in the report there is a space separating the records.
I realize this is long and complicated, but am lost and the volume of this type of work is increasing. Requests to IS to change the output of the system reports is low priority so I am stuck. Thank you for any help you may provide.
select concat([first_name] & ', ' & [last_name]) as [Employee Name] from [employee_details]
THe above query is returning the result correctly only if both first_name & last_name fields are not empty. If the fields are empty, it is dispalyingcomma (,).
SELECT fldtotal2003fiscal FROM tblTotals2003Archived
Unfortunately, I am querying somebody elses tables. They archive the data yearly into a new table to control bloat. Instead of yearly having to create a new query for the new year, I was wanting to just have a form that had a list box of years. Then the user can just select what year they wish to query, and the query is automatically updating the field, table, where condition, etc.
I do not know if this is available in Access as it is in Oracle / Coldfusion. Thanks for any help though.
I have a table Pmt in Ms Access with following information:
Table Pmt Cust no Inv no T no Date Amt 123 ABC T1 20110131 1000 123 ABC T2 20130228 1000 123 ABC T3 20130331 1000 789 XYZ A1 20130131 2000 789 XYZ A2 20130228 2000
Fields "Cust no", "Inv no" and "T no" are in Text format, whereas "Date" and "Amt" are in Number.
My question: how can I concatenate row values using a query. The query results that I wanted are as follows:
Cust no Inv no T no Date Amt 123 ABC T1, T2, T3 20130131, 20130228, 20130331 3000 789 XYZ A1, A2 20130131, 20130228 4000
I have an Access 2000 project and am trying in a query view to join 3 values into one. 2 of the values come from tables, the third comes from another query view (all linked in the query design screen)
Value 1 is always populated, but for each record either Value 2 or Value 3 will always be empty. All values are strings.
I have tried this formula in the query design grid:
I am trying to generate a simple report that can be imported to excel for analysis. Currently the database documents failure causes associated with a repair. I need a "Report" that does not duplicate the failed items in the event there is more than one cause associated with the failure. some repaired items may have up to 3 causes of failure. What I would like to do is have the query show one record instead of three records (for the cases were three causes of failure were identified for a repair)
I have a parameter set on the query at run which filters by Region i.e. the box pops up and they enter a criteria..I would like to have a field entered next to Email that would take all the Email Addresses in my query result and concatenate them so essentially I have an email list I can pop in Outlook.
Or alternatively, a solution to allow access to these email lists via a button on a form. It has to be something very simple for an end user to access. For instance right now, to get there list they hit a button to run the query then enter the parameter then if desired, hit another button to export to excel. Today, they use Excel for everything and are used to having the concatenated email addresses in one cell in excel. For this reason, I am trying to have the email addresses concatenated in the query results to mimic what they are used to today. But I am not sold on it if there is a better way that is easy for them.
In my query, I have several results that relate to the same PK overall, and I'd like to concatenate these records into one expression/one field in a form.
Currently my query looks like this;
As you can see, the BandPK/BandFK are repeated where the GenreFK/GenrePK are different. What I'd like to do is concatenate the column named Genres into one field so the BandFK/PK isn't repeated.
I have a query that selects the "Active" records for three different selections, A, B or C.. There may be 1, 2 or 3 results for a particular selection. That is Selection A may have one result or active records, but Selection B may have three results.
I want to use data from the query to populate a field on a form. For example, if the results for Selection A, having one "Active" record would be RecordAData. But for Selection B with three "Active" records the result would be RecordBData & " " & RecordBData2 & " " & RecordBData3
My query is: SELECT tblSomething.ID, tblSomething.D1, tblSomething.D2, tblSomething.D3, tblSomething.D4, tblSomething.D5, tblSomething.D6, [D3] & " " & [D4] & " " & [D5] & "-" & [D6] & " " & "SomeText" AS Header FROM tblSomething WHERE (((tblSomething.D1)=Forms!frmSomethingHeaders!D1) And ((tblSomething.D2)=True));
The concatenation in the query is labeled "Header". I want to be able to Concatenate the "Header" which in itself is a concatenation in the query.
I thought that this might be a looping through the query results, but I cannot figure out how to do it. But then, that is only my uneducated guess.
So i have made a query which filters the text you type in your text box on a form. This is working great, but then this morning I had some records that contain some blank fields. My query does not show those records even if they contain the same text that I would type in my search form.This is my expression in my query of one column:
Like [Forms]![searchform]![Qprojectomschrijving] & "*"
Hi There, I am trying to get a query to pull dates from a form to use as limiting parameters for a report. One of my forms has the user enter a range of dates into two text boxes (a from-date in one box and a to-date in another) as the range of dates they want to pull information from a table via the query. These dates are also used in the Title header of the report that is generated from the query information. How can I get the query to use these dates in the text boxes, rather than having to use the "between / and" command on the criteria line of the query design? If I just have parameter windows pop up and have the user enter the dates there, I can't use those dates for the report, or can I? Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I haven't explained this properly, if so, I'll try again if I've just confused you.
I have a form with a listbox on, the listbox uses a query to populate it, which returns a list of client names. The idea is, when I enter the clients name in a text box, the list is narrowed, through use of the query.
This works fine, and always has - very pleased with it, the problem comes when I decide I want to be able to search on the account number as well - which it always throws errors about.
I am using the following query (posting the sql, hope that is OK)
SELECT tblSafeKeep_Clients.SafeKeepClientID, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Title, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Initials, tblSafeKeep_Clients.Surname, Format(tblSafeKeep_Clients.DesignationNumber,"000000") AS Expr1 FROM tblSafeKeep_Clients WHERE (((tblSafeKeep_Clients.Surname) Like "*" & [Forms]![frmSafeKeep_SelectClient]![txtSearchText] & "*")) OR (((tblSafeKeep_Clients.DesignationNumber)=[Forms]![frmSafeKeep_SelectClient]![txtSearchText]));
The problem is because I am only using ONE text box, but the surname is (obviously) text, and the account number is (obviously!) a number. SO - it throws a wobbler about it being too complex to evaluate when I try to search for a surname, trying to search for an account number works just fine.
Hi, I have created a form (Form1) based on a table (Table1) and also a Query based on this table (Query1). I calculate a field in the query (Expr1: [column1] + [column2]) Now i have created a text box on Form1 that should display Expr1. I know I could also calculate the value directly via the expression builder, but I would prefer to simply display Expr1 from my query. Which is the syntax I have to use in the Expression Builder? I tried "= [Query1]![Expr1]" but it does not work. Thanks for your help Tigrou
I have a make table query which needs to take the column "Amount Orig Ccy" from the table "Consolidated Reporting Table Orig CCY", divide it by the Canadian Spot rate input by the user into text box "Spot" on the form "Summary Form", and then populate the column "Amount USD" with the returns.
Should I be using the DLookup function? I tried the below without success:
I am using Office 2007 and have a form that is linked to a query, also I have a sub form linked to the same query. I cant understand why both forms say in their properties that they are linked to a query but when I try and add a text box to show customer ID it tries to show data from a table
I have a table that stores the criteria that the query is supposed to pull from so that when a user logs into my database, it reads that the person is part of a sepcific unit and then pulls that specific criteria and places it in a text box on a form. When they click a button on that form, it then opens the form that is connected to the query. The data type for the field I need criteria for is a number, so the criteria that shows up in the text box is this "1 or 3 or 5" so that it shows those specific numbers. If i put that directly into the query, it works just fine, but if I try to connect it from the text box in the form, it gives me a "data mismatch error" or an error explaining that criteria is too vast for access to pull the information. How do I make it read the information in there so that I dont have to create 1000 forms for each different unit.
Example:
Field: Unit Table: Master Log Data Criteria: 1 or 2 or 3
Works fine!
Field: Unit Table: Master Log Data Criteria: [Forms]![Selector]![Criteria]
The text box that is referenced in the criteria in the query says 1 or 2 or 3 and then I get an error... If the information is the same, why does it work when I place it in the query specifically, but not when its in the text box?
I have a perplexing problem. I'm creating a simple db to enter borrower audit checklist data with the following tables:
Questions -- A list of 17 pre-defined audit questions, with fields QNum and Question Audits -- One record for each audit (pk AuditKey is an Autonumber), and some borrower fields AuditQuestions -- Linked to Audits, with pk of AuditKey and Qnum, and a Question and Answer (yes/no) field
The Audits form has the Audits table as its datasource, and an AuditQuestions subform. When I go to a new Audits record, there are initially no subform records attached. When I enter a borrower name, the field AfterUpdate event runs the following code:
Code: INSERT INTO AuditQuestions ( AuditKey, QNum, Question ) SELECT [Forms]![Audits]![AuditKey] AS Keyval, Questions.QNum, Questions.Question FROM Questions ORDER BY Questions.QNum;
I start out with both Audits and AuditQuestions tables empty. When I run the code by entering a borrower name, I get, "... can't append all the records in the append query ... didn't add 17 records due to key violations". It acts like it's getting a null value from Forms!Audits!Auditkey, but if I select the Debug option and check the value from the Immediate pane, it shows a valid number. Also, if I run the query manually with the form open, it loads the questions correctly.
The first Audits record is loaded with questions in the subform so you can see the desired results. To see the problem, go to a new record, enter a name, and hit tab. Another piece to the puzzle is, if you do this on an existing record, it works fine: Click No in response to the error message that appears, then click End on the Debug message. Go to a different audit record, then come back to the one you just created. Change the name, and it works correctly. It's as if it doesn't know what the AuditKey is the 1st time, but if you check it in debugger, it is loaded. In fact, I put in code in the AfterUpdate event to plug the LoanNumber field with the Forms!Audits!Auditkey value, and it worked, but the subsequent query still failed.
I'm trying set the query criteria from a textbox on a form. It's a Status field in the query. 1 = Open, 2 = Closed. If I set the criteria to "1" it shows all open, "2" and it shows all closed and "1" or "2" it shows all. The problem I'm having is setting these in the form. I've set the query to pull the value from the form. I can get the Open or Closed to work but not the All. My textbox shows exactly how the criteria should read "1" or "2" but doesn't show any results.
My problem is when I do this I get a pop up asking for a Parameter Value. but there is text in Text89. How to I get a round the Parameter Value box coming up an automatically do this. If I type the first four letters in to the Parameter Value it finds it on Consignment Guide.
