How To Create Incrementing Text Field Tied To Multiple Tables
Aug 28, 2015
This is a errand database where each client can have several errands and some errands are related to each one and other.
Since each client can have several errands and and each errand is related to each one and other, then the client. I thought i need key which can work as a ClientErrandID, so i can tie the errands together. My idee is to use the ClientErrandID as an text auto incrementing field with a string like: (Errand-A-xxxx).
Lest say the range would be from (Errand-A-0000 to Errand-A-9999) And when the string hits "9999" at the end the "A" will switch to a "B" and the number counter would start over from "0000"
How should the table relationship look like? When a user is adding a new errand to a client, how should the function work?
Should all the associated errands be created in the background and granted the same Errand_ID when the main errand is created? Can i create a incrementing text field with vba & queries?
How would the code structure look like?Is there any examples on a incrementing text field with code available?
I am working with 4 tables and I am trying to get a count of the email address field in each table grouped by Email Group Name. I tried the dcount function but returned an error because some of the email addresses have an apostrophe in the field. Is there a way to do this in 1 query? This is an example of the result I would like:
I have been unable to find a simple way to copy a text entry from a Table Field and paste it to multiple records in Datasheet view. The Toolbar 'Paste' procedure copies to the selected record only and I am unaware of how to select multiple records, as per a spreadsheet procedure.
Is there any way it would be possible to have a number automatically created using NZ() or DMax function; based on certain criteria and also when creating the number preventing a duplicate number creation in the even of a simultaneous record creation?
Here's my example:
I have a CCN Number (Currently the employee manually types it in; and it is the primary key. What I would like is to take out the human element (error possibilities) and let access create it for the employee.
Here is how the CCN looks and the breakdown of each section (the important part's will be the first 3 sets of numbers):
96-06-184-100-000
96 = Region Code 06 = Current Year 184 = Julian Calendar Date (based on the receipt date field) 100 = Filler number based on day of the week (Eg. Monday = 100, Tuesday = 200, etc.) 000 = Filler numbers (Should always be Zero's (000)
I need to find away to pull this information from a table of some sort and combine it to create the CCN and to then add 1 (incriment) to the 4th set of numbers. Example 100 (1st record of the day) 101, 102, 103, etc.
I have almost no experience of VBA outside of working a little with codes generated for me like docmd etc.
I am trying to create a database for resourcing staff. I have a form where the user inputs a start date and an end date which updates a table. I have a query that works out the number of working days between those dates. I have a table with all the working dates between now and 2016 I want to put a duplicate record button on the form (I can do that bit)
The tricky part is I want it to create a new record for each date in the dates table between the start and end dates. Example 23/06/2014-18/07/2014 = 20 working days. I want to end up with 20 records with start dates as below and the same end date.
23/06/2014, 24/06/2014,25/06/2014,26/06/2014,27/06/2014,30/06/2014,01/07/2014,02/07/2014,03/07/2014,04/06/2014,07/07/2014 etc up to 18/07
I have a continuous form and I want to have a text box or a label next to each record that simply shows the Record Number. I have tried using a text box with Control Source = [Current Record]. This works for the Single Form view but when I change to continuous form, they all show a value of 1.
I am looking for a way to enable a user to fill in a number of fields on a form press a button(CreateButton) and duplicate the records how ever many times is stated in a text box(TxtQty). I also need this to increase the serial number by the amount of times stated in the text box.
There will need to be another text box (TxtNextSerialNumber) stating the next first available serial number
For Example: TxtNextSerialNumber = AD-Oracle-00010 TxtQty = 5 Press CreateButton to create 5 records TxtNextSerialNumber = AD-Oracle-00014
5 new records created with the below fields duplicated and the above happening.
I will then need a message box informing the user of the serial numbers created:
'You have created serial numbers AD-Oracle-00010 to AD-Oracle-00014'
Table Name: ADOracle Form Name: ADOracleTestData
Fields Names: CustomerName: Duplicate PartNumber: Duplicate OrderNumber: Duplicate OrderDate: Duplicate HoseKit: Duplicate Returns: Duplicate Comments: Duplicate SerialNumber: + the amount shown in TxtQty starting on next serial number available.
I'm pretty new to making databases outside of a basic access class..Is it possible to make a record in one table that makes a new record in 5 different tables using different bits of the initial record?I want to use the data entered in an evaluation form to create a new entry with the basic identifying information in 4 different tables.
I'm working to create a staffing database that houses changes to staffing week over week.
I have one primary table, the "empMaster" table, that stores the employee's name, contact information, etc. I have other individual tables for noting which employee reports to which manager, what their business title is, what group they're in, their training history, etc.
Once I've populated the empMaster table with employee information, I want a form that allows me to update each of the other tables IF there as a change. Some weeks will have a manager change, some only a business title change, some a group change, some a training change, some all of the above. The problem I run into is that I will sometimes process hundreds of changes a week, sometimes only 10-20 so I almost have to use datasheet view for mass edits. I'm relatively new to Access and I'm having a hard time getting my form to allow this level of flexibility and to update all fields needed.
When I build a form that includes more than two tables (let's say I want to update a Manager and a Business Title), the form will not work and populates nothing. I believe it's because Access wants there to be an existing record to match to across all three tables and there will not always be.
How do you create a form that is not tied to one single record source? In other words, I want to be able to select the record source that it updates. I have a bunch of tables that have the same data structure but are separated due to geographical nature among other reasons. Is there a way to do this?
Hello there, some help would be nice! Say i have a booking field. If people wanted to book a number of seats, how would i make it so that when the number of seats that was entered on the booking form was entered it would add on to the exsisting number of seats taken?
So say for film A There is 20 seats available and 4 of been booked, then someone wants to book 2 more, how do i make it so now, the number of seats taken shows up as 6 as apposed to 4?
I have a single field in a table called "Client Contact", where users enter a semicolon between the name, address, and city state & zip. My reason for this was so we could copy client info with a single copy and paste (like from an email). But, on the final report, it needs to have these three parts split up into different lines, or even different textboxes. I can't find a way to do that.
Each table has a corresponding form for data entry in each area. The tables were subdivided in this way in order to limit each department's ability to edit the data of other departments. The only field common to each table is the drug lot number, or "Lot #" (which is the primary key of each table).
I wanted to make it so that when Manufacturing enters a new lot number on frmMFGData, it automatically creates that lot number in the other 4 tables. This process mirrors our actual real world business process, where drugs are manufactured and assigned new lot numbers by our manufacturing team, and then other departments simply reference those numbers when doing their part.
To accomplish this, I went ahead and set up 1 to 1 relationships between the various tables using their "Lot #" fields, establishing referential integrity and enabling cascading updates. However, when I attempted to enter a new lot number into frmMFGData (the manufacturing form), it didn't seem to appear in any of the other tables. If I edit an existing lot number and change it to something else, the change does carry over to the other tables, so I know that the cascading updates are working in some capacity.
If cascading updates cannot "cascade" new records, then is there any other way to accomplish this?
I'm using Access and Excel 2007.... I know how to import an Excel spreadsheet as a table.
I have several supplier price lists in Excel. I want to keep my vendor price lists up to date.
When one of my vendors tell me that a price has changed on a particular item, I figure that I could have a form that I could use to enter the changes.
I believe the form would look like:
Field: "Vendor" (drop down list to choose from. Name of the Supplier price lists) Required. Field: "OEM" (Key Field found in each table) Required. Field: "Brand" (Field found in each table) Not required. Field: "Price" (Field found in each table) Required.
OEM would be the unique key field.
If I enter the Vendor name and then the OEM number it would show if there is already that number in the Vendor price list and I could make changes. Or I could enter new data in that vendor price list.
Hi, I am reasonably new to access and i am having a little trouble with what i would expect to be a simple problem to fix.
What i am trying to do is this... I have a table set up to work with an asp web page. each record in the table has a unique ID which is set to autonumber. I also have a field which hold the URL of an image used in the asp file. The address remains the same for all of the records except that the file name it points to increments by one each time. example: the record ID is 173 and the file address is: http://www.berkeley.tv/thumbnails/thumb_173.jpg
Basically, if i could automatically take the ID number and enter it after 'thumb_' it would all work fine.
I have this bit of code in a routine. CustNum is a Numeric field with a number I need to increase by one With the code below It comes always as 1
Set Db = CurrentDb Set rs = Db.OpenRecordset("Miracle_Cloth_Main", dbOpenDynaset) On Error Resume Next rs.AddNew rs!Name = NewData rs!Cust_ID = NewData rs!CustNum = [CustNum] + 1 rs.Update rs.Move 0, rs.LastModified ' Go to new record 'Me.Bookmark = rs.Bookmark ' Go to new record 'rs.Close
I'm trying to create a table for every record I have in a field. I have two tables, one titled "Experiments" and another titled "Students". I want the new tables generated from the field EXP_NAME from Experiments. I need it to have seven fields, one copied from Students, five labeled Trial1 thru Trial5, and a final for a grade.
I have a table <Table1> with field <Cust_ID> with datatype <Autonumber, LongInteger,Increment>. It means that as new record is entered each Cust_ID is auto-generated with incrementing number (that is not fraction). Now, I want to create a field that will generate incrementing fractional AutoNumber as I go on adding new record. (e.g. 1st record: Cust_ID = 1.00000001, 2nd record: Cust_ID: 1.00000002, 3rd record Cust_ID: 1.00000003)
Any help is appreciated. Thanx in advance. Prodigy.
So I have a table tblPO2006 with a field PO that contains a number. Currently I have 100 records and the curent number in this field is 10804 What i want to do is when a new record is created the field updates with a +1 increment to the previous records number. Thus the new record would be 10805 and the next 10806 etc
I dont want to use autonumber... can someone point me in the write direction of code to do this.
I am trying to create a database by compiling records from multiple excel sheets. however, since most of the clients still uses the excel sheets to enter records, I am thinking if it's possible to create a linked table in access from these excel sheets that are hosted on an online server.
also is it possible to merge multiple linked tables together? if they have the same field range, so they will append when the linked tables gets updated.
1) Create a table with a single text field 2) Enter some text values, including one which begins either "aa", "AA" or "Aa" (but not "aA"!) 3) Sort the field, and note where it puts the string(s) created in (2)
For me, they appear at the wrong end of the sorted list! I have tested this in Access 2007 and 2010 and it only happens in 2010. I'm using 32 bit Access on 64 bit Win 7 Pro.
I am new to Access and to the forum. I made a check printing system
table name = 'burgan' form name = 'burgan cheque' Fields = 'PV' and 'cheque' and 'Beneficiary'
I have inserted a button (Command31).The function I would like to add on clicking the button
1. it should chose the highest value in both fields (PV and cheque) 2. Create new record 3. Increment it by 1 (both fields 'PV' and 'cheque') 4. the focus should stand on 'Beneficiary' field.
My access database is used to process vehicle trips. Each shift, a vehicle is assigned a docket number (paper based), and on this docket the driver fills out each trip he/she makes. In a shift (thus on a docket) there may be 5 - 15 trips. I want to create an incrementing number for each trip in a new field - can be created as they are processed or after the fact by looping through the resultant data - whatever is easier.
So in simple terms, return all trips for each docket number then number each trip.
