How To Do A "relative" Image Link To Save Space.
Sep 5, 2005
I have a database that I migrate to different locations as we change stations (military). I keep the master on my C: drive and then put a copy onto the shared network drive. I keep my images in a subfolder of the master db.
example:
C:Pirate (master db)
C:Piratedbfiles (where I store the images)
I have the images "linked" on the forms to the subfolder "dbfiles" that is on the shared drive. However, as we change locations the drive letter changes for the shared drive. I want to make a "relative" link to the pictures in the properties box as so:
Piratedbfilesimage1.jpg
or
dbfilesimage1.jpg
However, it keeps putting the C: in front of the text or else it won't find the images. I desire it to look in the subfolder of the active db (whether or not it is on the LAN or hard drive).
I know I can embed the images, but that exponentially increases the size of the db. I've played around with putting them in a table, but couldn't make that work either.
Oh, Access 2000.
Thanks,
Brian

I am trying to link an images (.png) onto a form. I have a folder of all the images I want but I want the path to be relative. So that if I move the access file and the images folder to a new location, it will still work.
In the properties for the image, It works fine as C:UsersjohnDesktopimage1.png but what I am looking for is the ability to use "imagesimage1.png" as the file will always be in that relative folder to the db.
What is the correct syntax for this? putting image1.png in the same directory and just using image1.png works, but this won't be very tidy with 100+ images.
I have tried:
imagesimage1.png
imagesimage1.png
imagesimage1.png
With PictureType set as linked.
I know from searching it is possible through VBA by getting the root directory of the folder and appending the filename. Don't really want to go this root. I also don't particularly want to create a table to store the images or links.

I'd like to put a button in a form that when clicked opens an image on the computer, the location of which is already specified in a field called RefImage.
When I change the hyperlink property I can only have the button open a folder or internet address rather than a unique image for each individual record.
If I use the code builder for the event on click and try to write Application.FollowHyperlink RefImage it gives me error message 490 that it Cannot Open the Specified File, but this is probably because I don't know how to write VBA.
Any simple way to make a button on a form open an image in IE or windows image viewer which has a path specified within a field of the form? Perhaps someway to use the Application.FollowHyperlink, clearly I am doing something wrong.

I want to get the link adress to an image in a report using VBA. I use the following code:
PHP Code:
Dim strPath As String
strPath = [CurrentProject].[Path] & "builder" & FirstImage
If Not Right(strPath, 7) = "bilder" Then
Me.huvudbild.Picture = strPath
Else
Me.huvudbild.Picture = [CurrentProject].[Path] & "builder\_tom.jpg"
End If
I get the following error (translated from Swedish): Error: 2424 The expression contains a field, a control or a property name that MS access couldnt find.

I'm using Access 2013. I have a directory on my hard drive that contains hundreds of image files. The name of the image file matches a field in the Access table, which are unique. I would like to match those files to the unique number in the table and create a link in a field. How would I go about this.

I have a form that contains one WebBrowser Control. In this WebBrowser control I interact with the Google Maps API to produce a map.
I would like to save the contents of the WebBrowser Control (Google Map) to an image file. I have not been able to figure out how to do this.
The WebBrowser Control takes up all the space in the form. Perhaps the contents of the entire Form can be exported to an Image?

Access 2010:
The database I'm working on stores label images, or better stated, it stores file paths where the label images are stored. These paths are used in reports and forms to view the label images within the database. What I'd like to do is to create a "save" or "email" button that will allow the user to select a location to save just a copy of the image in jpg format. I realize that it is possible to imbed the jpg image into a report and export it as a pdf. What I'd really like to do is find a way to save the image (perhaps by copying it from the path in the database and simply relocating it) and preserve the jpg extension if that is possible.
I am also aware that there are third party applications that will convert pdf reports into jpg files however network restrictions keep me pretty limited in my ability to download third party software.

Hi,
I'm buliding an access system in which the forms and tables stored in seperate databases as such:
forms: \serverdirmyDatabase.mdb
tables: \serverdirdatamyTables.mdb
myDatabase has a load of linked tables from myTables. Problem; my network drives are mapped differently from the users, so the links do not work for me.
So - does anyone know how I can set up a relative link, so myDatabase looks for datamyTables? i.e. it looks from the source directory rather than checking the whole path back to the root?
Hope this is making sense . . .
Dave

I have a form that I would like to update a picture on using VBA. The source of the picture path is in part a query that is not bound to the form. So far I have the following code that is pretty much working, but with a couple flaws.
Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
LoadDefaultPicture
End Sub
Sub LoadDefaultPicture()
Dim db As DAO.Database
[Code] ....
This is working. However, when I change the record the picture flashes the current picture once and then loads the new picture. It is like it reloads the current picture then loads the new one. I'm hoping there is a way to get rid of the flash.
Also, the code fails here:
strDefaultPictureName = rs.Fields("AttachmentName")
When the query does not return a record. I can definitely fix this by adding an if statement to check for a record, but I'm kind of perplexed at why it is failing at that line. I would expect it to assign an empty string to that variable name and then fail on the next command where I try and set the ".Picture" property of the image.

So I have this relatively simple problem: I need to create a button that once clicked will open the Save As dialog box and allow the user to save a copy of the current database where he wishes. The filename should contain todays date in DDMM format along with some pre-set text e.g. DDMM PresetText.
I am using Access 2010.

Hi guys,
I'm in desperate need of help and want to know if it is possible to load an image on a form once a hyper link is created.
For example, I have a form with a hyper link to an image created, currently, when you click on the hyperlink, it opens the picture in the browser, can you change it so that it loads teh image embedded into the form instead of loading it into a browser?
If so, how?
Thanks

The expression that i use in the query is: Expr1: [ARTINAME]+[ TITLE]. I need to put a space between the two. Is there a way to put a space in between these two when written to the new table?

Hi everybody,
Amongst many other things i would like to be able to see which teams in our company have access to which database. We currently use up to seven!!! different Databases which makes for tremendous fun...just kidding.
Since every Team has access to more than one Database andevery Database obviously gets used by a multitude of Teams, i thought the best way to go would be a Junction Table. Whilst building this, however, it occured to me that i could have just created fields for each Database in the Team Table which then can be ticked.
So here's my question, is it more space consuming to create a junction table, it certainly appears to be more work right now...
Thank you very much,
Dan

200GB USB2.0 with 54GB Free (NTFS)
Virtual Memory = 1gb (Let Windows Manage)
Trying to copy files from a external USB drive to the Hard drive.
I have done this a million times and now it decides to foul up. When trying to copy files from the external drive to the hard drive that are 4GB or higher I get an error "Not Enough Disk Space"
Both Drives are NTFS with Plenty of free space. Also get the same error when creating files larger than 4GB. It worked before and no OS changes have been made that I know of.

Hello Everyone :cool: ,
In access, I have a field in a table that I need to fix. The field contains a charge(money) value, with a code attached to it. For example:
[2345.0020680]---> The (2345.00) is the charage amount & the (20680) is the code.
[17580.04PPO]----> (17580.04) is Charge; (PPO) is the code.
**Every charge amount is different, and every codes length is different; so there is no consistency in this field.
I need to add a space, comma, backslash, or something two places after the decimal, to split the two. Once I do that I'll export to excel, and split the field into 2.
HELP!:confused:
Thanks in advance everyone,
