How To Edit MS Access Tables Via Web
Jun 18, 2013
I have an MS Access 2007 desktop database that has been in use for many years. Of the numerous tables, I have three tables that now require users to update some fields via the web. I do not want to move to SQLServer Express, SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSQL... as they are not my skill set.
My question is what is the best architecture to achieve this end so I can automate the presentation data from my desktop to the web pages and have any updates appear back on the desktop?

I'm accessing an iSeries database with MS Access and Client Access ODBC driver. This works fine for reports and such, but not for editing or updating.
Trying to use edit queries, I get error 3073 (..must use an updatable query). But if I just open a table in Access and don't use a query, you should be able to edit directly into the table. But for me, this isn't possible.
What could be the problem?

Yes, its in excel, im lazy :P
Data similar to this is imported into the database I am creating for my users. If you notice, in the servername field, some records have no information. Those records imply that the servername above it is the servername in question. Is there any way, via SQL to say something to the effect of:
If the previous records servername field is 'Server 1' then fill in the servername field for the current record with 'Server 1'
Ive thought about transferring the entire table into an array in VBA, and trying to manipulate it that way, since the data is never going to exceed a full page or so. However, im not even sure how to do that yet :P
Any insight would be stellar! Thank you.

I have a commitment table in my database, and normally people will input commitments through a form.
However each month I will have a flat file upload from excel directly into the Commitment Table, these will be up to 1500 lines. (they are downloads from other systems, that we want to have in our database and i can't link directly to these systems).
I created a macro to do this, and attached it to a button and tested it and it works fine.
My issue is this, once I've uploaded it once, next month what I would like to happen is when I upload it again that it changes the original commitment should any of the details be different or it inserts a new commitment if it didn't already exist. (After I have uploaded the original data, I can download it to get the commitment ID to attach to the excel files if necessary.)

I have the logical process, but I just don't know how to put it into code.
I have a form with two boxes HireMovieID and HireCustomerID, with a button HireButton.
The two tables which I have are CustomerInfo and MovieList.
Here's the psuedocode for what I need to happen:
Code:
IF HireMovieID.Genre = "R16"
(IF DOB > Today - 16 years)
Display Error: "Too young"
ELSE Hire()
[Code] ....
I need to somehow make it so that the MovieID is valid, as in, if it doesn't exist then it comes up with an Error MsgBox.

I have ODBC linked tables to a DB2 database. When I try to edit the values in some of the tables (open the table in dataview and edit one record) I get a 3021 Error -No current record. On other tables (linked the same way) I don't get this error
If I try the update by running a query on the same table, I get no errors.
The system I have is a german Access 2010 on german WinXP and a connection to DB2 LUW v9.7
Is there any set of settings necessary for ODBC to work with access and vice versa?

I have finished my database and I have started getting the user level security all setup. I have all the permissions and users working fine except that as I was creating the accounts I entered phony passwords thinking that once i had everything worked out, it would be easy to edit them or change them to real ones, but I cannot figure out how to do that.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

Hello! All,
I need to store a customer signature in the database so that we can take a print out at a later time.
I don't know how to go about doing this and thought that creating and editing an image within an access form should be a good option. But I don't know how to go about doing that either. So could anyone please help with this and also if you have a better idea, could you suggest that too. I have the application running on a tablet PC so there's something called Stickynotes too that comes with it. It would be great if someone could suggest a solution
Rishi..

Hi all
I am putting together a quick and dirty db to hold just a few thousand bits of data for some tests I’m about to start.
For various reasons it is better to hold some of these in Excel, and to link Access to Excel.
The problem I have is that when I use Access to edit a “record” in Excel, it will work for the first one or two records, but then Access crashes and I get the very familiar “Sorry for the inconvenience, please send this error file to uSoft blah blah blah” (which I always do, but wonder if anyone ever takes any notice of them!).
The problem occurs whether the spreadsheet is open in the background, or is just sitting closed in its directory with Excel not running.
At the moment, I only have a tiny amount of data as I’m still putting it together, so it’s not a “size” issue; I first noticed the problem with only about ten records!
I expect I’ll move everything to Access (not ideal but hopefully it wont crash quite so often), but I’m curious to know if any of you have actually made a successful link between Access and Excel (and used it for editing data, not just looking, which is fine).
My system: Office 2003 pro/developer, Win XP pro.
Thanks for any thoughts

I have recently gotten a handle on ASP and found it to be a very powerful tool.
I am wondering if there is a way to design a page where I can list my database tables, and by using a command, I can use asp to do the following.
1. Add or delete table
2. Add, delete, or update fields within the tables
for instance: rename a field 'PersonName' to 'MyName' without change the original values in the field 'PersonName'
I have searched all over the net and could not find information on this subject.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I've searched a lot and couldn't find an answer to my problem.
I want to have a field in my form that allow me to paste an image from the clipboard to, for example, a Paint field. Then, I want to save that image to a file on a specific folder in my computer via VB.
The reason for this is that I don't want to ask the user to open paint by himself and save the file, probably in the wrong location and with the wrong name.
The first approach was creating an OLE Object directly from the Insert menu and that worked partially. It allowed me to paste the image but there wasn't a way to save it to a file, neither a method for that. It was an incrusted object, and I think that is the reason for that.
Then I tried to create the object by myself via VB, with the instructions:
Dim objeto_perfil As Object
Set objeto_perfil = CreateObject("Paint.Picture") 'IT STOPS HERE
And with the variation:
Dim objeto_perfil As Object
Set objeto_perfil = CreateObject("Paint") 'IT STOPS HERE
And neither worked. The error message says it lacks an object.
Then I followed an example from msdn that used a bound frame (view here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vbaac11/html/acproClass_HV05187062.asp)). The code is:
visor_perfil.Class = "Paint.Picture" ' Set class name.
' Specify type of object.
visor_perfil.OLETypeAllowed = acOLELinked
' Specify source file.
visor_perfil.SourceDoc = "C:RealPathimage.BMP"
' Create linked object.
visor_perfil.Action = acOLECreateLink 'IT STOPS HERE
' Adjust control size.
visor_perfil.SizeMode = acOLESizeZoom
It stops in the action assignation, an says "error 2753 there was an error trying to communicate with the OLE server".
I google a lot and could find much of the Paint.Picture Class.
Anyone has any ideas to overcome this issue? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Dim oApp As Word.Application
Dim WordDoc As Word.Document
Set oApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")
Set WordDoc = CreateObject("Word.document")

WordDoc.SaveAs ("TS-" & Me.Scriptnum & ".Doc")

Is it possible to edit the recent files of a access database?
We have a main database (version control database) from where you can open a database which is located on a network drive.
By selecting the datbase you need from a dropdown menu, access will check which version you have locally. If there is an updated version available on the network it will download this updated version, overwriting the old one. The 'main' database is then closed and the local version of the database you needed is opened.
The problem is that this local database is mentioned in the recent files history so people are able to bypass using the main database.
In Excel you can clear the recent files with application. Recent Files setting the maximum to 0 and back to original again. In Access you do not have this option.
Where I would be able to find this option. Ideally I'd like to only take out a specific databasename from the recent files, rather then resetting the full list.

I am designing a transactions database for some of my clerical staff. I've inserted a data entry subform into the main transactions form (which also has a subform that summarizes all the selected company's past transactions). This data entry subform actually has as it's record source a table that simply stores that one record temporarily.
So when the user is finished entering their current transaction, I have a Save button that actually just opens a popup form which displays the data they entered into the data entry subform, giving them a chance to verify their entry is accurate. This form has a Save button which runs an append query and a delete query, adding the record to the permanent Transacations table and also clearing the temp table.
The problem I have, I think, is that when the popup form opens, the main form data entry subform still has that record locked as exclusive. I believe this is the case because while I am indeed able to make changes to the fields on the popup form, none of these changes appear in the temp table. In other words, the user is not actually able to use the confirmation pop up form to make any necessary edits to their entry. This makes the form sort of useless!

I am building a db and i want to disable the Shortcut Menu (pull down menu at form's title bar) to prevent the users from closing the main form.
There is a Disable Shortcut menu setting in the File/Options menu but the whole db gets the setting.
I simply want to deny the users from accessing the Shortcut Menu when on the Main Menu (or a particular form) but allow it on other forms where Printing is required via the Shortcut Menu.
Im looking at 2 options; edit the shortcut menu or force a form to disable that w/o affecting other forms.

I have an Access 2010 database that I have split. In the database I have a couple tables, forms and two reports. I have entered some data into one of the tables, but when I go to edit the data in the form the next time, there is no data (though I have verified that there is data in the table). Also, there are two reports that can pull the data without any problem.
Why the data wouldn't show up in the form.

We have an Access 2000 backend database resides in a network server drive while users connect to the backend tables with a mde file on their computers. All users have Access 2010 and the mde file was converted from the 2000 frontend with Access 2010.
The database have been running for a few weeks but recently users have been complaining about record lost on the backend table. We have also experienced one incident of data corruption where the main table could not be opened. After Compact & Repair, the table could be opened but a few records were showing xxxxx on all the fields and we have to delete and re-enter these records.Would they relate to using 2010 mde converted from 2000 frontend when the backend is still in 2000? I am a little nervous about converting both the frontend and backend to 2010 since I have heard various issues on the new version.

I am using a template database that I downloaded from the Microsoft Access template website and have been modifying it and adding new forms and tables etc. I have used the forms wizard to create a number of new forms to edit a number of the tables. The forms are "split forms".I can't seem to get many of the forms to stay the size that I set them to! They seem to have a mind of their own and often when I think that I have sized them correctly, I then open the form and they display in full screen mode or larger!

I am using Access 2010.I have a table that I am using to pull my data from other tables and a query. My table is called tblMyData. One of the field names is level1. This field points to another table, and gives the user the choices for states (examples California, Texas, Maine).
Another field name is level2. This field points to another table and give the user the choice for type of customer (examples Business, Consumer)
The field name level3 points to a query. The query, qryFinalChoice matches up the choices based on level1 and level2.for example, the user can pick California for level1, business in level2 and California Widgets or Los Angeles Clothing store in level3 (plus about 20 other choices).
If the user picks Texas for level1, business in level2, business in level2 and Houston rugs, or Texas style restaurant in level3 (or about 15 other choices).
-I am recording 1 for California on level1, 2 for Texas and 3 for Maine in level1.
-I am recording 1 for business and 2 for consumer on level2.
The query qryFinalChoice has all the combinations for state, business or consumer, and lastly business name or consumer name.
-qryFinalChoice has line1 to match up the choices for level1 in my table.
-qryFinalChoice has line2 to match up the choices for level2 in my table.
-qryFinalChoice has line3 to match up the choices for level3 in my table.
I do not want any of the Texas business names appearing when the user picks California, or vice versa.
My SQL in my tblMyData tab for level3 looks like this:
Select line1 from qryFinalChoice where line1=1;
I am able to get all the line items where California is a selection. How do I change my SQL to pull all the line1 choices where I have selected from level1, and all the line2 choices where I have selected from level2 automatically based on my pulldowns?

I have a split database.(Access 2010).Three of the linked tables are Appointments, Appointments_OLD, Appointments_NEW.
I want to use vba to rename Appointments as Appointments_OLD (replacing the current one) and to rename Appointments_NEW as Appointments (replacing the current one)
I have used:
'replace Appointments_OLD by Appointments, replace Appointments by Appointments_NEW
DoCmd.Rename "Appointments_OLD", acTable, "Appointments"
DoCmd.CopyObject , "Appointments", acTable, , "Appointments_NEW"
Unfortunately this just made Appointments and Appointments_NEW clones of one another - changes in one automatically occur in the other.
What I actually want to do is to swap the names round in the backend database while maintaining the right links to the frontend.
Is this possible using vba in the frontend?

Hello, this is my first post (anywhere ever)!
While I have lots of Access programming experience over the years I have broken new ground this week and am in unchartered territory and need help please!
In the organization I am working for (as Procurement Manger), we use AMMS (by Microwest) for work order generation and inventory management, etc. I have been able to import into Access the tables of interest from this SQL-based package. The problem is that I need to share the tables (via nice front end forms/queries) with about 20-30 people in the field.
I don't know much about ODBC but the administrator of AMMS was kind enough to give me access to the AMMS database tables via ODBC and I, personally have access to read the table data but none of the other people in the field can access these tables due to security rights.
So, what I have done is I created MS Access tables for each of the 4 AMMS tables of interest and I run code that runs delete and append queries on each table. I then have a separate public db that the field people access with all the queries and forms but only links to the Master db containing the 4 Access tables derived from the ODBC tables. This works ok but there are issues:
1) if any field people are on the Public db, the code to import the ODBC table data loops and does not complete the delete/append cycle on one or more of the tables. I can only refresh the table data when nobody is connected to the db - impractical.:(
2) the ODBC tables are rather large - one is over 38,000 records and it takes several minutes to run the delete/append queries.
3) When I created the Master db it was some 83MB. After running the delete/append queries it is some 179MB and appears to increase in size every time I run the delete/append code. When I run "compact db" it stops running after a short time. Does nothing but create a new file (db1.mdb) of the same huge size as the Master.
I suspect the most graceful solution would be to give each user rights to the ODBC tables from AMMS in Access. In this case, I wouldn't have to run delete/append queries and the data would always be in relative real time subject to the refresh timer. Unfortunately, due to AMMS licensing restrictions, this is not doable.
I have tried to search the internet for guidance but no luck. This forum appears to be an excellent opportunity to get expert advice on this particular issue. I thank you for your thoughts and guidance.

I have multiple tables that are created from some software that puts them each into the access database. each table is one year of data. the software cannot put all years into one table because of memory. I want to combine these tables into one. In addition, I need to do some manipulatins: the dates come over as MM-DD-YYYY strings and I need to convert them to dates MM/DD/YYYY, and also I need to parse a string to extract the General Ledger account number. I know how to use this easily from within Excel VBA using dateserial, and Instr etc., but now sure how/if I put some code into access and have it called to do this for me automatically. Each night the most recent year is automatically updated in access, so the combination file needs to be refreshed whenever the most recent year file changes.
I currently doing all of this in excel: first initialize the NewCombinedTable, then one by one dumping each year file into an excel worksheet, doing the work needed, then appending it to the NewCombinedTable. However, I think it would work much quicker if I was able to trigger the Combination to happen in Access along with the data manipulations.
I also need to know whether DAO or ADO is best for me to use with 2010...
