List Box Text Selection

Feb 7, 2006

A few weeks ago I had a post in which I asked how a user could type in the text value of a list of selections in a list box, and arrive to that selection.

Such as if they type in "A" then "B", it goes to "Abby" rather than "Aaron" then "Ben". It was answered that this was not possible in MS Access with a list box, so after that I basically told the users I would look into it more.

I have finally cleared off my desk and arrived back to this small issue.

I thought of the idea to add a Drop-Down Combo Box to the form. I could use the functionality built into the Drop-Down Box to allow them to type in the person they are looking for in the List. Then click a button labeled "Find" and it would take them to the correct person in the list box. They could then function as before.

I just could not figure out the code to put behind my "Find" button. I am not sure if you can do a "Goto record" against a List Box, or a "Find record" against a list box.

Has anyone run into this issue, and if so, was there a way to work around it?

Thank you,

T.J.

List Box Text Type Selection

Jan 12, 2006

I have an MS Access DB, that uses a list box to give users a view of the possible selections to choose among.

It works great, but the database has grown to the point there are nearly 3,000 items in the list box.

I found that if you type in the first letter, it will take you to the first alphabetically in the list with that letter.

So if I type in "A" it takes me to "Aardvark". But even this could use improvement, as typing in the first letter with 3,000+ selections means the users may scroll a few hundred to find what they are looking for.

Is there any code, or property setting that can set it up, so the users can type in the entry and it will narrow it down?

So if they type in "AS" it goes to "Assumption" rather than "Aardvark" then jumps to "Sail" (as it does right now).

Thank you for your help,

T.J. Bernard

Combo Selection Populating A Text Box

Nov 13, 2006

Probably an easy one here...I have a series of cascading combo boxes where once the last once it chosen, I'd like some sales info to populate in a group of text boxes. What command would I use for this?

Also, I have a checkbox that I'd like to use to either enable or disable a textbox as well. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Store Multiple List Box Selection In Text Box

Jan 11, 2007

I created a button that when pressed concatenates any items selected in a list box and places them in a text box on the form with the format of "itemselected1" or "itemselected2" or "itemselected3"

However, I need to set the criteria in a query to look at this text box and return the results based on that selection. When I do that I get no results even is the query should run fine with that type of format.

Attached is a copy of the Code for the button and the result
Dim txtValue As String
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim strlnameselect As String
Dim intCount as Integer
'Cycle through selected rows in listbox

For Each varItem In Me.Queueselect.ItemsSelected
intCount = intCount + 1
Select Case Len(txtValue)
Case 0
txtValue = Chr(34) & Me.Queueselect.ItemData(varItem)
Case Else
txtValue = txtValue & Chr(34) & " Or " & Chr(34) & Me.Queueselect.ItemData(varItem)
End Select
If intCount=Me.Queueselect.ItemsSelected.Count Then
txtValue = txtValue & Chr(34)
End If
Next
'Assign variable value to textbox
Me.Queuetorun.Value = txtValue

End Sub

the result in the text box is
"A" or "B" or "C" or "D"

Populating A Text Field From A Combo Box Selection.

Apr 28, 2005

I have a combo where the list is populated with a bit of VB code to create a two field list. When the user selects the item they want from the list it displays the item in the combo box and should populate a text box in the same row with the value from the second column.

This combo is part of an orders subform and the user is selecting a product from the list which displays the product_name and the product_id.

The problem is that the product_id is not filled in and access returns the following error:
Run-time error ‘3101’:
The Microsoft Jet database cannot find a record in the table ‘product_table’ with key matching field(s) product_id.

This is the VB code that populates the list :
[code]
Private Sub comboCatagory_ID_AfterUpdate()
Dim sProd_description As String
sProd_description = "SELECT products_table.product_id, products_table.prod_description " & _
"FROM products_table " & _
"WHERE products_table.prod_catagoryID = " & "'" & Me.comboCatagory_ID.Column(0)
Me.comboProd_description.RowSource = sProd_description
Me.comboProd_description.Requery
End Sub
[end code]

What am I doing wrong?

Thx
Kev.

Forms :: Populate Text Box After MULTIPLE Combobox Selection

Apr 1, 2013

I have a form based on a query.On the form I have 4 comboboxes.The combo boxes filter eachother without a problem (based on custom select query).Now I want after the fourth combobox value is selected, I want to populate a text field with a value from a different column from the master query (after the 4 selections only 1 value should be possible)I try to say this easy.Master query contains 5 columns:

- group
- type
- job
- insurance
- charge

combo1 selects group (and filters records)
combo2 selects type (from remaining records and filters again)
combo3 selects job (from remaining records and filters again)
combo4 selects insurance (from remaining records and filters again)

[code]....

This works great and the dropbox only shows 1 OF EACH DIFFERENT record...If I add a text box and want to see the "charge" value, that I thought I could use the ME.text-code. But in order to do this, I have to add the charge column into the query of Combo4.the dropbox for insurance gives me multiple values that are the same. Is there any way to make this work?

I have used the following to populate the text boxes, even row count is correct, But why is not 2nd text box is not populating ?

=[Combo2].[Column](1)
=[Combo2].[Column](2)

One thing I noted when I provide the control source then selection gets stop from combo box...I am giving the valid control source is customerID but its not working.Could it be the reason ? Why selection gets stop from combo box when provide the control source ? If remove the control source then 1st text box is getting filled on basis of combo selection and 2nd text box value is not getting filled as describe above.

Forms :: Auto Populate A Text Box Based On Selection Of A Combo Box

May 24, 2013

I have two tables: tblWeightTickets and tblWasteType.

I want to create a form: frmWeightTickets, where a user can enter information and the data is stored in tblWeightTickets.

There are two fields in particular that I am working on ... "WasteType" and "Rate".

On the form, I want "WasteType" to be a combobox "cboWasteType" and when I select a type of waste I want the "Rate" textbox on the same form to auto populate with the rate amount for that particular type of waste (i.e. recycling, garbage, etc).

The Rate amount is located in the table: tblWasteType under the field name "Rate". How can I do this and at the same time store the information in the tblWeightTickets? I already have the combo box loaded with the types of waste - I just need it to populate the rate text box and store it in the Weight Tickets table.

General :: Using Combobox Selection In IF Statement To Make Another Text Box Visible

Aug 28, 2012

I have a combobox [CBreason] that reads from a table to show me why someone is gaining access to the building.

One of the options is "Incident".

When incident is selected I want a textbox [TBIncidentNo] and a button[BIncidentDup] control I made to appear.

I thought that the code:

If Me.CBReason.Value = "Incident" Then
Me.CBIncidentNo.Visible = True
Me.BIncidentDup.Visible = True
Else
Me.CBIncidentNo.Visible = False
Me.BIncidentDup.Visible = False
End If

Placed in the after update action of the CBReason box would sufice but it doesnt work

I'm guessing the value is not recognised fro some reason but i cant work out why. There is no error message or issus, it makes the box dissapear when there is no entry but no change for selecting incident.

Autofill Text Field Using Combo Box Selection To Generate Autonumber

Dec 10, 2013

Autofill text field using combo box selectionHello,

I'm trying to autofill a field on a form using MS-Access 2010 Web version sharepoint using macros without coding.

The form has an existing Combo Box field called Segment, using the row sources "REW", "WTT", "DBM".

A user begins filling out the form and eventually selects the Combo Box for Segment and selects any one of the segment no Multiple selection

There is another text field, which is actually alpha-numeric, called Job_No. I want this to autofill based on their Segment selection, using this format:

REW-YYMMDD-TTTT, or REW-131210-20001 for example, for today with the time displayed as military time and last Job No.(20001) for REW and Also for WTT (30001) as starting number.

Forms :: Nomination Form - Combobox Selection List Not Updating After Each Selection

Oct 27, 2014

I am designing a nomination form (web database so no vba macros can be used).

The form has 3 combo boxes: cboStaffName, cboLevel, cboNominee.

The form is bound to the tblSubmit table where the submissions are populated.

I used a select statement:SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List; to populate the combo box for the Staff Name selection.

This is the select statement to populate the job level combobox:

SELECT Staff_List.Level, Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Staff_Name)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboStaffName]));

The select statement to populate the combobox for the nominee combobox:

SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Level)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboLevel]));

The problem is that the staff_name in the first combobox is still found in the nominee combobox which should not be because a staff cannot nominate self. There is a field in the Staff_List called YesNo that should be activated for each staff that is selected so that the select statement on the nominee combobox can be updated accordingly to remove items with the field "Active"

How to get the checkbox selected for each corresponding staff.

Sample of the database has been attached.

Automatic AutoNumbering

Oct 2, 2005

I am using DMax function for my custom autonumber
I just realized that when using this in a multi user environment, I am getting duplications.
This field is not the primary key, and I am using this as a group ID and cannot set it to “no duplications”
My form also has a sub form, and when entering the sub form, the main record gets saved automatically.
First I added the following procedure

Private Sub Form_AfterInsert()
If IsNull(Me.OrderNo) Then
Me. OrderNo = DMax("OrderNo ", "tblOrder") + 1
End If

Private Sub cmdSave_Click()
If IsNull(Me.OrderNo) Then
Me. OrderNo = DMax("OrderNo ", "tblOrder") + 1
End If

However, I then realized the after insert function will add the new autonumber to the form. However, it will not saved it to the table until the main record is saved again (which may not happen)

“DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord” doesn’t seems to be working after the “Form_AfterInsert”

Now I moved the code to the “Form_BeforeUpdate” (still testing)

Does anyone have any experience on this problem?

Thank you

Joe
