Import/export Specification Editing?

Dec 16, 2004

Ok,
I'm new to a particular access database that is having problems.
Basically, it is using transfertext to transfer a database to another file, at least as far as I know.
Unfortunately, it's hanging, and as best as I can guess, its because something in the export specification file is not quite right.
Can anyone offer me an explanation of how to edit an import or export specification file? The MS help seems to indicate that it stored in the database, but I haven't been able to locate the file that is specified in the vba code. Nor did I see it elsewhere in the folder where the database is stored.

Any help is appreciated.

Export To Txt Specification Help

Sep 21, 2005

hi all,
i found this forum recently and always seem to find my answers on it, this is the first time i havent.. so. firstly i am using access '97 (work is soon to upgrade to 2003 - finally).

my problem is
i'm trying to export a query to txt file, which i'm doing by

DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, eParcelSpec, "QryeParcelExport", "G: est.txt", False

the eParcelSpec i had to make via importing a text file, then on import text wizard, chose advanced, setup my field dilemeter to * and text dilemeter to none. this is saved and i can open it up going through the above process.
however when my docmd runs i still get the standard output with "fieldvalue" , "fieldvalue2". instead of the * and no comma

its important for this to be the other delimeters, as the exported file is going to be used in a posting company's program that requires a certain format to import shipping address information.

also, is there anyway to add lines to before the data is exported? i need to have a start of file and end of file characters before any data and after the data.

thanks guys

Skip Field In Export Specification

Nov 3, 2005

I run a query that I export out to a tab delimited file. This text file is used for another application. The problem I am having is if I select "skip field" in my text "export specification" it still exports out that piece of data, even though I have selected "Skip Field". The data type on this field is a number and field size is integer.

I thought I read in another access newsgroup that this is a known bug? Is that true? Is there a fix? I am anxious to fix this because, I have 90 query's that I export to text and I would hate to have to go to each query and select "Not Show" that field.

Linked CSV File Wont Use Link Specification

Jul 5, 2005

Hi there,

Am hoping someone can shine a light on my problem as this has me ripping my hair out.

first off I've set up a subform in my main form to display a query using a linked table as the data(a excel exported csv file). nothing special.

however, I have had to use a link specification to determine how the table is linked. i.e. what fields should be defined as double (as access treats them as integers for some reason even though the numbers are too big!) and which fields need renaming.
without this link specification, the data will not be handled correctly.
ok no problem. I've had this working. The table links fine.

When i came to roll out the database, I set up the security in order that multiple resources can use it at the same time.

Now when I log in and use the form I get the following error.

'Text file specification <filename> does not exist. You cannot import, export or link using the specification'

Arrgh. I used the specificition to link the table in the first place! I've tried refreshing the link using the Link Manager, I've tried re-linking it and I've also tried linking the table and creating new specifications, all with no luck. I get the same message each time.

My next step is to import the data instead(again I'd need to use a link specification). But I'd really like to solve this as I can see no reason why it shouldnt work.

Can anybody help?

Date Range Specification - MS Access 2003+ ASP

Jul 9, 2007

I have a database that gets updated twice per week. Using ASP, I am "publishing" this database to our company website to enable anyone within the company (here or aboad) to see the status of various tests. The problem I am having is: I am trying to get only "active" tests to show up (which I have working correctly) or tests that have been stopped or completed within the past 5 days. I have tried using: DateAdd("d",-5,Now()), DateAdd("d",-5,Date()), and neither have worked. Any suggestions on how to get this to work? I can't use a specific date to subtract from, because it may be a few days between the time I update and the time everyone has seen it.

Forms :: Format Memo Field To User Specification - RichTextBox Members Not Found?

Mar 16, 2015

I have a pop up window that maximizes and the need to format a Memo Field to users specification.

Unfortunately the Mini Popup Bar that comes up when you select text is very shy and annoying when it doesn't show up. It's Completely Unreliable.

So I thought I'll make the Controls on the form for Bold,Italic... etc but I can't seem to get the code to work.

My TextField is a Memo and I have changed the TextFormat to RichText, but I cannot use any of the commands like .SelBold or .SelColor etc.. It gives me a Compile Error: Member or Data Member Not found.

I don't understand why? Is there a Add In/Reference that I need to include?

Modules & VBA :: Import Csv Files And Rename Them After Import Into (imported) And (failed)

Jul 17, 2015

I have the following piece of code for importing the .csv files from a selected folder and then renaming them into 'imported & filename' if succesful and 'failed & filename' if import failes for whatever reason (bad formating, etc.).

The problem is that the first time it encounters a 'bad' file after another, instead of going again to the Error handler, the command

Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "Activitate", filename, True

gives me the default MS Access error, namely 2391. I would like it to go the the Error_handler again ang follow the course of actions and rename the files into 'failed' and 'imported'.

Here's the code:

Sub ImportActivitate()
Dim strFile As String 'Filename's
Dim strFileList() As String ' File Array
Dim intFile As Integer 'Number of files
Dim filename As String, sFullName As String, sFilename As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False

[code]....

Also, how can I make the routine stop cycling through the files after I renamed them all?

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

Sep 17, 2013

I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Queries :: IIF Statement With And In True Statement

Oct 31, 2014

I have a query with the following criteria in one of the fields:

>=DateAdd("m",-12,fom()) And <=DateAdd("m",1,fom())

fom is a function for first of the current month. I need this query to be specific to what month it is when its ran so i want to only have this criteria if the month is > = october. If it isnt October or greater, i want the criteria to reflect this.

>=DateAdd("m",-12,fom()) And <=fom()

Which also works by itself. But when i add it to an iif statement it always produces no results. Below is the iif statement.

Iif(month(date())>=10, >=DateAdd("m",-12,fom()) And <=DateAdd("m",1,fom()),>=DateAdd("m",-12,fom()) And <=fom())

I have also added the column name to each expression and it still doesnt produce any results.

Creating IIF Statement In Between Statement For Dates?

Apr 28, 2015

I am creating a multi-search form for a student database, where after I enter my search criteria I hit a "Run Query" command button and then it opens a query form with all of my criteria. So far I can search using last name, first name, and middle name. When I try to search with a start date and end date I am have issues. The start date and end date is for the class date. In the query form under the field, class date, for criteria I wrote:

Between IIf([Forms]![Search Form]![Start Date]="",1/1/10,[Forms]![Search Form]![Start Date]) And IIf([Forms]![Search Form]![End Date]="",4/25/15,[Forms]![Search Form]![End Date])

I want it when I write a date in the start date and end date I want it to give me a list of all the students who took the course between those dates. Also, if I leave the dates blank I want it to search all dates. The dates 1/1/10 and 4/25/15 are just the dates I gave because that is far back as my database goes.

Xml Import

I guess this will be my last plea for help as to why an xml file will import the data into access 2003 (on my home PC) but not import the data, only the fields, on my work PC.

In both importings I'm indicating to indicate data and structure. Could it be the difference between versions? Perhaps a restriction at the end of my work environment?

Import 1NF To 2NF Db

Aug 14, 2006

Hello,

I am not sure if this topic has been coverd in access-programmers forum but I'll ask any way.

I have thousands of records stored in excel (1NF). I have a access db to improve the need to have so many records duplicated.

Is their a way, via an action query (if so what one - update, append, cross tab etc) or another method to import the records and put them into related table.

For example, the current 1NF record columns are as follows >

typeOrgcntPrecntForcntIntcntSurjobTitIdcntPMCcntLandcntMobilecntFaxcntEmailcntBCcntAcccntConfcntLescntTBcntTRcntBanqcntMisccntNotesChaseorgNameorgAddrorgAddr2orgCityorgCountyorgPoCodeorgLandlineorgFaxorgEmailorgURLclientOfappVenueappD8appTypescrNameorgNotes

In my DB i have seperated the above into many table.

Here is a list of new tables with colums >

Table Contact -

cntID orgID cntPre cntFor cntIntcntSurjobTitIdcntPMCcntLandcntMobilecntFaxcntEmailcntBCcntAcccntConfcntLescntTBcntTRcntBanqcntMisccntNotes scrName

Table Organisation -

orgID typeOrg orgNameorgAddrorgAddr2orgCityorgCountyorgPoCodeorgLandlineorgFaxorgEmailorgURLclientOf orgNotes

Table Appointments -

AppID cntID appVenueappD8appType

Of course as organisation is the parent table, their is no problem doing a simple cut and paste, but i can work out how to put related records in a related table. Can you help?

Import From Filemaker

Jan 22, 2006

I have been asked to recreate an existing database which was done in FileMaker into Access.
Rather than re-enter all the data which is in there, can I just import it into Access?
I tried exporting the FileMaker data into Lotus 123 format and then inporting it to Access that way. Filemaker has a bad habit of not exporting duplicate entries. I need this data as well.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Import Help Needed

Jan 1, 2007

Hi

I have got a Microsoft Access Database table with a few hundered records, I have got a excel or csv file with the same table but its got changes, deleted records and new records added.

What I want to do is replace the info in the access table with the new data that I want to import in. But I don't want duplicates and I want it to add, delete, modify records.

I know in MySQL you can use a Replace Query that does what I want. But the database I am working on is Microsoft Access.

Is their a solution in MS Access that I can tell it to point to a Excel Spreadsheet, or csv file and replace existing records with the changes, delete and add.

Import SQL Via Code

Feb 21, 2007

Hi.
I have a db, where the main table is linked via an ODBC connection to a SQL server db.
Want I would like to do is, either by code or a macro, import the information from the ODBC link , rather than "File", "Get External Data" etc etc.
This way, the code or macro would run everytime the db is closed, and the information is stored in the db as a table..... just as a backup

I have tried the various "Transfer Database" with macros, but nothing seems to work

I don't know whether this would have any bearing on the answer but I do not have write permisisons on the SQL server, and it does not have a primary key.......as far as I am aware.

Many Thanks.
Frank.

Can Access Import CSV?

Mar 8, 2007

Hi,
I'm using Access 2000.

I use a feedback form on my website to receive my customer details by email.
Currently I print out the data and type it into my form.

I can alter my feedback form so the data in the email is seperated by comma's.

Is there anyway I could import the comma seperated values directly into my database rather than typing each one in by hand?

Or could anyone recommend a different method of transferring the data from the email please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many, many, many thanks!

Import From Another Access Db

Dec 4, 2007

I need to import a form to an access 2007 database (from another access
2007 database) but on the External Data menu group, under the Import section,
the Access option is greyed out (all other options are available).

I performed this same function yesterday and the Access option wasn't greyed

I've also opened up yesterday's backup of the DB and the Access option is
greyed out in that too...

Any help would be appreciated.
