How To Isolate Records Based On Sequential Numbers
Dec 27, 2011
I am trying to create a database that will have records that include dates and a number assigned to that date. ex., the 3rd day of the quarter will be numbered 3 and the 43rd day numbered 43. I will do this via table.
After running a query that will identify a subset of records, I only want to see those records that are part of a 10-day or greater span. There could be multiple 10-day+ spans over a given quarter.

Need a sequential number on report. Have an unbound text box and set it to list a running sum over group. The twist is that I'd like to have it start with an assigned starting number [Starting Number] and then add 1 to each subsequent record. It works for the first record but then the next record is last value + [Starting Number]. Basically it is a check run where I would list the starting number and the report would do the rest.

Yo there - thought Id fire a question out regardin numbering:
I have a table players and a table team.
Players sign up to teams, and I have a report which shows each team, and the players underneath.
Team
Player 1
Player 2
Now, after all the players are assigned to a team, I want to assign each player within each team a random number, sequential.
So when I run the report, it will be like:
Team A
1. Player 1
2. Player 2
Team B
1. Player 1
2. Player 2
Any pointers!?

Hello,
I have a field called "Project #" that needs to generate a unique number each time a command button is clicked. For example, when the button is clicked the blank "Project #" field is filled in with "653001". After the "Project #" field is filled in the button also runs a code to create a report exported into Excel. This report will only have the records with the Project Number of "653001".
Then, when more records are added and it's the end of the next week, the button is clicked again and the "new" blank "Project #" fields will be filled with the next Project number which would be "643002". A report will again be created but now with only the records with the Project number of "643002".
The first three characters will always be the same for the Project Number "653" but the last three will increase whenever the button is clicked to update any new records that have a blank "Project #". So, it should look like: 653001, 653002, 653003, 653004, etc.
I know it sounds confusing but I hope someone can help.
Thank!
Elizabeth

Hello all.
I need to be able to enter a number of orders that would all be the same, but they will have different order numbers, in sequence.
I'd like to enter all the information in a form, then have "First Order Number" and "How Many?" fields, and have the system grab the detail, apply it to the order number entered, create a record in the table, then reapply the detail to the next sequential number, repeating the process until it has created the number of orders shown in the "How Many?" field.
I am at a total loss here, and any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
Thanks!
Tom

I have a database for quotations. The database automatically generates a new quotation number every time a new quote is started. This works great, and I am very happy. My next task is to allow the employee to pull up a quote that has already been generated and edit it. I would like for the new quotation process to be followed step by step, but with all of the information already filled in.
This will allow for any edits that need to be made, and keep from having to re-enter a lot of data. I want one thing to change, which is the QuotationNumber. It is currently formatted by "yyyymmdd-01" for the first quote generated on that day. I want the edited quote to have a QuotationNumber formatted by "yyyymmdd-01a". For every edit that letter change going through the alphabet in order. How would this new QuotationNumber code differ from that of the Other?

I have a large table (>1M rows), and I have searched various forums for a way to add sequential numbers by Group. The query I have works, but since it's a large table, I broke it up, and did everything what starts with A-E, the F-Q, etc, and appended to a new table.
This query works, on anything that starts with the letter D or later... A-C will not work.
Basically, the source table is a list of all combinations of Part_ID and UPC_Code. I am trying to number the UPC_Code field, per Part_ID. There is an AutoNumber field (ID) that is in the table as well.
This is the SQL. Query1 is the query that is being executed, so the DCount is within this same query, if that makes sense.
Code:
SELECT tbl_upc.ID, tbl_upc.Part_ID, tbl_upc.upc_code, DCount("[Part_ID]","Query1","[Part_ID] = '" & [Part_ID] & "'")-DCount("[Part_ID]","Query1","[Part_ID] = '" & [Part_ID] & "' AND [ID] > " & [ID]) AS Seq_Num
FROM tbl_upc
GROUP BY tbl_upc.ID, tbl_upc.Part_ID, tbl_upc.upc_code
ORDER BY tbl_upc.ID;
The results of this query are that all Part_IDs that start with A through C produces a Seq_Num of 0, but any that start with a "D" or later number correctly - in other words, the first instance of a particular Part_ID is 1, then 2, and so on up to the total count of that Part_ID.
Running Access 2013.

I am trying to create a query to find missing sequential numbers in a text field. I am using this specific field as a case number which is designated as two letters, the # sign, two digits indicating the year, a dash, and then a four digit number; For Example: AB#13-1234.
The reason for this query is to tell the user of this database that a specific case number has yet to be entered and needs to be. The case numbers are unique and will never be referenced more than once.
My table name is "MainDataTbl" and the field i'm trying to find the missing case numbers is titled "CaseNumber".

Basically what I have is a database for tracking/logging parcels that arrive to the office. I want to be able to generate a reference number based on the date of arrival: i.e. the reference number should be ddmmyy### where ### is a sequential number. I know that I could just use the primary key's autonumber, for the sequential number but if I do this then the sequence will not restart at 1 on each date and because we receive a lot of parcels the reference number will grow to be too big to print out on the collection slips in just a few months.
two tables (one with the date and staff on duty that day and the other with the parcel's info') with a one to many relationship
I also have a query (Named: FullLog) that picks up the following data from the tables:
Name - Description - Size - TrackingInfo' - Staff - DateReceived - Count
The field named Count is a DCount function that I used to find out the number of times each date is repeated. This is the Expression that I used:
Count: DCount("*","FullLog","DateReceived = " & [DateReceived]) [Note that DateReceived is first converted into a string using CStr()]
This is as far as I have been able to get, I have been looking for weeks for a solution to this problem but I have yet to find one. I don't even know if the DCount function is the correct way of doing it, I did read somewhere that this produces a very slow query.
Effectively what I want to be able to get is something of that resembles the following
DateReceived - ReferenceNo
051013 051013001
051013 051013002
051013 051013003
061013 061013001
061013 061013002
071013 071013001
071013 071013002
071013 071013003
071013 071013004
071013 071013005
081013 081013001
081013 081013002
091013 091013001

Creating a form against a table with the following fields
EC
Project
Originator
Title
Full description
Effectivity
Etc....
Easy enough to create the Project combo box, problem comes with trying to systematically assign the next EC number.
When I select a Project from a combo box I want an EC assigned with format ECXXXX-### where XXXX is the project number from the combo box and ### is a sequential number. ECs should start at -001 for all projects.
Do I need to add an EC suffix field to hold just the ###? Then what?

I have a table from an excel sheet that comes in the format above with up to 5000 rows in record groups from 1 to 10 rows in each. The repeating data is how it comes from our all singing and dancing case recording software and I can’t change that fact.
Take a group of records with the same TradingName such as “The Herriots” group, There should be one row in the group where FdInspAction = LastInspDate (in this case 06/01/2007) . In this group there is no match so we need to identify the group. The “Bloggs” group is fine (see Row 8) so can be ignored.
My feeling is it can’t be done other than by visual checking. Can anyone think of a way around this?

I have a form with 3 tabs...each tab has the same subform embedded in it.
There are 3 sequential records in the database, and my desire is to have each record display on its' proper tab.
How can I set filter criteria for each subform to append the record sequence identifier to the link master/child fields to ensure that only the appropriate record displays on each tab?
Basically, I trying to use tab controls with embedded subforms to display the many side of a one to many relationship. The parent form contains the data for the parentrecord, and I want the subform, with a tab for each related record, to show the child side of the data relationship. One child record per tab, utilizing the same identical sub-form for each.

I've received a database that is a digitized population register from the 19th century. All adults have been entered into the database, but all children are missing.
Every person has a unique number that corresponds with the original source (this variable is called 'no', this is not the autonumber primary key thing). Instead of searching in the original source which numbers are still missing, I would like to add the missing numbers (with no additional information, because I still need to type that in).
For example, the table now looks like this:
no - name_last - name_first - occupation etc
1 Smith Henry baker
2 Smith Mary
5 Williams John butcher
6 and so on
So 3 and 4 are missing.
How can I add these missing numbers automatically?

I have a query where I use the Month function to get the month number of funded loans. So for example if a loan funded 06/01/07, my field would display 6. I have this for the whole year of 2006 giving me values of 1-12. I have put in the criteria <=[What Month?] for my month field so that the query will prompt me for the month value I want and give me that plus any month previous. The problem is that when I put in 12 for the criteria, it only returns 1, 10, 11 ,12. It is grouping/sorting the values based on the first character. So any value that starts with 1 is automatically less than any value starting with 2.
How do I fix this?

I have inherited an Access DB that is supposed to be kept "alive" but not made much better. On a weekly basis I get an Excel CSV that I'm supposed to import into one massive table; that works just fine.
However, there is another query that takes values from a table named "New Users From Import Table" and appends them to the current "User" table.
But before running that query I have to manually update a field called "Display Name ID" with the next highest number from the User table but only the highest value that isn't in the 9000 number range.
For example, my next highest "Display Name ID" is 1144, which of course does not include the records that range between 9000 - 9008.
I had to manually enter 89 "Display Name ID" values yesterday and I know there has to be a way to update that field when I pull the data over from the temp table without having to do it all manually.
Here's the query that pulls the data into the "User" table (after I've manually entered the incremented values).
INSERT INTO Users ( [Display Name ID], [User Type], Organization, [Display Name], [Alias Name] )
SELECT [New Users From Import Table].[Display Name ID], [New Users From Import Table].[User Type], [New Users From Import Table].Organization, [New Users From Import Table].[Display Name], [New Users From Import Table].[Alias Name]
FROM [New Users From Import Table];

how to auto increment one field based on the value in another field. What I have is a table with six fields. There is a foreign key assigned to each record and linked to another table. Four fields in this table are number fields indicating accordingly a number for a category, a number for a subcategory, a number for a subject for a subcategory and a number for an instruction for each subject of subcategory. The last field is the text field for each instruction. Numbers are required to be included in the report. Also, number of categories, subcategories, subjects and instructions vary by each record in the the table which this table is linked to. What I'm trying to accomplish is to have numbers in the subcategory to auto increment starting with "1" for each number in the category field, numbers for each subject field would auto increment starting with "1" for each number in the subcategory field, and numbers in the instructions field to auto increment for each number in the subject field starting, again, with "1". I also need these numbers to restart with "1" for each new record in another table.
Basically, the table would look like this:
cat subcat subj instruction
1------1-------1------1
1------1-------2------1
1------2-------1------1
2------1-------1------1
2------1-------2------1
3------1-------1------1
3------1-------2------1
1------1-------1------1
(if the record in another table is a new/next table)and so forth..I have been looking for anything that could remotely work for me. Every VBA code I've tried is either don't work the way I need it to work, other codes making the field to continue increment numbers if the number already exists in the other field.

I have a temporary table with all text fields for importing data to a normalized table. In order to import I need to prep the data by pulling the numeric values of "lookup" type fields (nb. not actually using MS Access lookups)
My prep query is producing 9 more records than there is rows in the import table, even though every join is a LEFT join, which should just pull all import rows and match up lookup values where they are available.
eg. of import table (all fields are text)
Location;
Group;
Name;
Wfm type;
Account Number;
WFM Status;
Date Created;
Date Held To;
processdate
Beachville Operating Centre;
Service Orders;
DAVID JONES;
;
Complete Engineering Investigation;
Completed;
4/20/2007;
;
4/27/2007
here is my prep query (the iif is to replace userid's that can't be found with UNKNOWN)
SELECT lookup_location.val AS F1location, lookup_group.val AS F2group, IIf([lookup_user.val] Is Not Null,[lookup_user.val],"UNKNOWN") AS F3user, wfm.wfmcode AS F4wfmcode, CURPW020_import.[Account Number] AS F5account, lookup_status.val AS F6status, CURPW020_import.[Date Created] AS F7datecreated, CURPW020_import.[Date Held To] AS F8dateheldto, CURPW020_import.processdate AS F9processdate
FROM ((((CURPW020_import LEFT JOIN lookup_location ON CURPW020_import.Location = lookup_location.txt) LEFT JOIN lookup_group ON CURPW020_import.Group = lookup_group.txt) LEFT JOIN lookup_user ON CURPW020_import.Name = lookup_user.txt) LEFT JOIN wfm ON CURPW020_import.[Wfm type] = wfm.wfmname) LEFT JOIN lookup_status ON CURPW020_import.[WFM Status] = lookup_status.txt;
any assistance would be much appreciated. any other info needed let me know.

I have a table with a field named BinNo which has a list of items with a bin no in the format 1.234( this number can be any number up to 6000.9999).
Is there a way for me to have a field on a form where I enter a number (i.e 1) and it lists all the items with a 1 before the decimal point but not 10 or an other number with a one in it. If I enter 10 then it will only give me the items with 10 before the decimal point and not 11 etc.
I have a query that pulls all the data into it but I only want the query to show the items relating to the number I enter into the form field.

Example is below:
If user enters 1132 in the user input box then the numbers shown in report should be as below:
Name Assignment Number
Felicity Thomas 1132
Andrew Sen 1133
Andy Luker 1134
Similarly if number entered is 2345 then the numbers shown in the report will be:

However, when running the query, I get the attached error message.

I have a list of part numbers in Excel. The user needs to get them into Access so it can run the queries and get the data about all of the part numbers. The part number field in my form is formatted as text because the part numbers are alphanumeric. Right now the user copies the list of part numbers out of Excel and pastes them into my Access form. The problem is that if the first 5 part numbers are only numbers, then Access assumes the whole field can only be for numbers and all of the alphanumeric part numbers are pasted in as blanks. How can I stop this from happening? It works fine when one of the first 5 part numbers has a letter in it.
