How To Make A Copy Of An Access Db Without Opening It...
Jun 7, 2005
Hello, Here's my situation. I inherited an Access db that prompts me for a password when attempting to open it in Access. Of course; no one has the password. However; queries run fine with this db via the web using the existing ASP and VBScript pages. The code for the db connection script shows a login, but it doesn't work when I try it to open the db in Access. With that said, I need to somehow query all the tables of the existing db via the web and come up with a script that would automatically create a new database set up exactly as the existing one is. Also; how would I write the script to make the connections to 2 databases (the existing one to grab the content and the new one to insert the grabbed content)?
Thanks in advance!

Would it be ok just to make a copy of the BE file (every so often) rather than to make a copy via code?The user can then just paste over the original if it becomes corrupt.

When I launch my Database file, it would normally run some scripts (I don't actually know what they do, the file is not used by me, only colleagues).
Instead i get this error:
The expression On Load you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.
When I click 'OK' another error appears:
The expression On Timer you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.
Once i click 'OK' on this error, another error sometimes occurs:
The expression MouseMove you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Object or class does not support the set of events.
But strangely enough the third error doesn't occur every time i move the mouse.
After these errors have been closed, all i have is my 'form' with a loading bar. I cant access the actual database. Nor can i get into the Visual Basic to try and find the cause. This is happening to multiple clients of mine, and me personally.
Running Windows 7, Server 2008 (64bit), Windows 7 (64bit)
Running Access 2007 and Access 2010.
I have tried changing permissions on the file, this doesn't work.

Hey Guys,
Hope you can help as this one's got me stumped!
I'm using Access 2000 and run a mailmerge function via a button on a form. (It opens Word, which then uses a query in the database to refer to and then 'automerges' into a new Word document).
It used to work absolutely fine but now it opens Word and then opens another copy of the database (so I have 2 running) and all hell breaks loose.
Any ideas what I can do to stop this? Has anyone come across this before?
Any help/suggestions would be gratefully recieved as I feel like I'm in a 'needle in a haystack of needles' situation here.
Cheers,
Rusty

I'm trying to copy the structure of a table to make a temp table. I'm using CopyObject (which also copies the data). So when I delete the data from the temp table, it also deletes data from the source table. Is the data linked? It should just be deleted from the temp table. Below is the beginning of the code. I've stepped through, and at the last step shown, the data in the source table deletes.
Code:
Dim strFile As String
Dim temp As String
Dim tbl As String
Dim db As DAO.Database
' error handle
On Error GoTo F_Error
[Code] .....

Hi,
I have a database (.mdb file) which includes a table, forms and VB code. I intend on putting it onto a CD and then opening the form on another computer which may not have Access. Is this possible? Can I convert the file or can I attach some type of reader to the disk?
I have seen some software for download on the internet which allows you to open the tables however the Form is the most important thing in this case (but I take it whatever I use, it will need to be able to view the VB, subforms and tables as well since the Form depends on them?).
...also can I install an auto-run to the file for when the disk is inserted? (this is not a major issue though).
Thanks.

My client uses Access 2003 and their IT dept is unable/unwilling to loan me a copy of it, meaning that I have to buy one, for when I work from home.
I can find plenty pf places that sell it, but I'm hoping some kind soul here might know of a bargain?
I'm located in Toronto. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced nearby place or - failing that - a reliable website where I can pick up a copy? Do prices vary much, or not really?
Thanks in advance.

I need a way of saving a copy of an email in Access. I am using Outlook for an email client. I have heard I can create a command or procedure in Outlook that will open a window (combo box?) with case numbers linked to an existing Access database. By selecting the case number a copy of the opened email will be created that can later be accessed (no pun intended) through Access. Is this possible?

I have a handheld that downloads a CSV file which I copy and paste into an Access database. I was using XP and moved to 2010, with xp this worked great. In 2010 some fields that text and/or numbers will only copy the numbers and the field that have text will just have a blank in access. Is there a fix for this?

I have several Access 2003 databases that the Copy Paste functions become disabled (grayed out) on a random basis. If I reboot, copy paste are active until they are used once or twice and then they become disabled. This happened on a client´s windows xp system and my windows 2000 system. Not sure, but it may be related to the amount of data in the copy buffer.
Has there been a recent access update that causes it to not clear the copy buffer? If so, how can I clear it without having to reboot?
Help ...

Hello, I am here back in the forum because would like some help to define a code.
Meloncolly has already helped me but I think that I have mixed up two pieces of code and cannot find the solution.
I need to export my access data to a document in excel.
I will select the recorset of the data to export, using a combo box on a form named MENU.
The excel file is a template named MASTER. Before the recorset is copied, I need to make a copy of the template via code. The copy will be the document into which copy the data. Once the data is copies, I would like an input box asking users if they would like to save the new excel file and be able to name it with the name they will type in the input box.
My last problem is that the database is used by 20 users and what happens if are all exporting to the template? Will this automatically name itselft, MASTER1, MASTER 2, etc?
This is the code that I am using and tried to put together. It does copy the data into master 1 but leaves the template opened. It also tells me that there is something missing.
THanks:
Private Sub ExportToExcel_Click()
Dim myid
Dim obj As Object
Set obj = GetObject("C: estMaster.xls")
'Dim mypath
obj.Application.Visible = True
obj.Windows(1).Visible = True
obj.Application.ScreenUpdating = False
myid = Me.[MyCombo]
'grab the three field values from the table
Dim mySSN, myFirstname, myLname
mySSN = DLookup("[WESSN]", "[MASTER]", "[id]=" & myid)
myFirstname = DLookup("[WEFN]", "[MASTER]", "[ID]=" & myid)
myLname = DLookup("[WELN]", "[MASTER]", "[ID]=" & myid)
'open excel and the required file

Dim blnStartXL3 As Boolean
On Error Resume Next
' Check if Excel is already running
Set appXL3 = GetObject(, "Excel.Application")

.Range("B3") = myFirstname
.Range("B5") = myLname
'do some other stuff
'save the workbook
.ActiveWorkbook.Save
'close it too
.ActiveWorkbook.Close
.ActiveWorkbook.Close
'exit and tidy up
exit_handler:
On Error Resume Next
If blnStartXL3 = True Then

I have an application in Access 2003. It uses VBA to open an Excel file. The file has one tab for charts and one for data. The program counts how many charts needs to be created, one per project. It then will place 4 charts per tab, creating as many chart tabs as necessary, keep one data tab. The program then writes the data and links the data to the corresponding chart. It will also write legends, and scale the charts. This all works fine under Access 2003/Excel 2003.The error I get is "Application-defined error or object defined error".The line that gives me the error is: Set chCopy = xlsheet.ChartObjects(idx).I am using the Multi-Chart option frmChartType = 1
Now I'm moving to the Office 2010 world. It is not working. Below is the code I run to do the magic. I guess something is happening in Excel 2010 that is different from 2003.I found when I comment out the error line, and other lines dependent on chCopy it creates the charts, but all the charts are pictures and not charts!!
Code:
Public Sub GenerateChart()
' Generate an Excel chart
Dim db As Database
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim xlapp As Object
[code]...

Hello everybody,
I have a question.
I have a button on a form.
When I press that button, another database should be opened.
I tried this:
Dim dbMyDB As Database
Dim rsMyRS As Recordset
Set dbMyDB = OpenDatabase("C:DocumentenJohnnyStyle_be.mdb")
Set rsMyRS = dbMyDB.OpenRecordset("nslArtikel", dbOpenDynaset)
But it didn't work.
Thank you very much in advance...

Hi - I have built a web page which holds links to Word,Excel & Access files.
I have the .doc & .xls files opening as I want but when I link to a DB file Access opens in a reduced (small)window. Is there a way to force the Access application to open maximised - before the DB file loads?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi All,
I've been developing in Access 2002-2003, and now have Access 2007. I can open a 2002-3 .mdb database OK, but when I click on the Main Menu buttons, nothing happens -- they do not work. So I cannot access any of the existing Menus and Forms. In fact, none of the previously existing databases I tried will open/close Forms using the existing buttons. Any ideas?
Thanks for any suggestions.
