How To Read First Word From A Text Box
Jan 22, 2008
Hi,
I have 2 text boxes in a form. In first box a sentence is appearing and second text box is unbound.
In second text box, I need to read only first word of a sentence appeared in a first text box.
How can I do it?
Please advise.
With kind regards,

I have a database with hyperlinks to open word documents on my network. If someone else has that word document open it will ask me if I want to notify or open in read only. However since upgrading to Access 2013, (from Access 2003), this sometimes freezes the database.
I am wandering is there a way to tell Access (or Word) to open the document in read only if there is someone using it already?

We need to move rich text from an Access memo field to a Word text box. So far the best Ive been able to come up with is in the code below. In this code pprs! What is a record set field of a table memo field that is bound to a text box enabled for rich text. The rich text seems to be stored as html as so I can get word to convert it by enclosing it in html tags.
Dim What As Word.Shape
Set What = doc.Shapes.AddTextbox(msoTextOrientationHorizontal , doc.PageSetup.LeftMargin, 225, 534, 0)
Dim sPath As String
sPath = "G:Temp.html"
Open sPath For Output As 1
Print #1, "<HTML>" & pprs!What & " </HTML>"
Close #1
What.TextFrame.TextRange.InsertFile (sPath)

This is what I would like to achieve
Each time a person comes into our building, they use a electronic key. The information is recorded into a text file. I would like to extract information as described next
The date from the line marked D. Date is marked in bold
The time from the line marked T. Time is marked in bold
The key number and Location from the line marked M. Key Number & Location is Marked in Bold
Sample of the text file:
D[ Fri 30/04/04 ]
T[ 08:19 ]
M[ Valid key:130 Ing group, tenancy:SUNCITY, door:Lower Roller Dr, panel:SURF CITY. ]
N[ 0 2 0 0 5 23 1 0 0 0 130 2 ]
D[ Fri 30/04/04 ]
T[ 08:22 ]
M[ Valid key:20 LEAD NGUYANST, tenancy:SUNCITY, shaft:0, panel:SURF CITY. ]
N[ 0 1 0 0 5 16 1 0 0 0 20 2 ]
D[ Fri 30/04/04 ]
T[ 08:23 ]
M[ Valid key:556 Ing Group, tenancy:SUNCITY, door:Lower Roller Dr, panel:SURF CITY. ]
N[ 0 2 0 0 5 23 1 0 0 0 556 2 ]
…..and so on the text goes
I am reasonably familiar with access but I have not had any experience with Text Files . Could someone post a sample db that would give me a starting point. any information would be appreciated.

I have a text file that I am using VBA to read and print 2 pieces of data to another text file. The code works to a point, in some instances it does not appear to find the end of file but captures and writes all the data. Or, after printing 36 lines correctly, it then stops writing.
I have stepped through the code and it appears to be capturing the data up past this issue but for what ever reason it does not print it to my text file.
PHP Code:
Option Compare DatabaseOption Explicit    Public Mode As String    Public FUNDREF As String   Â
Public rst As String Function DAILYAUDITTRAIL()     Close #1    Close #2      Open "C:UsersTEST IN.TXT" For Input As #1   Â
Open "C:UsersTEST OUT.txt" For Output As # 2      Do While Not EOF(1)    Â
Line Input #1, rst     If rst Like "KM56Aasdf*" Then        FUNDFINDER   Â
End If     Loop  End FunctionFunction FUNDFINDER()         Â
[code]...

I would like the label for a text box to read "B&W or Color" for a database of photographs.
Access will not accept the ampersand. Since this is just a label, I thought I could get away with using this symbol.
Is there a way to get the label to accept the ampersand?

Hi..
I am using RTF2 ActiveX Control which enables me to include the Rict Text Controls in my Access Form.
I want to generate a doc document out of the information which i type in the RTF2 Area on the Access Form. And whatever Rich Text Format information i have written there (for eg in Bold, Italics, Indentation, Tables created, Bullets n Numbering etc), is retained as it is on the Doc document which i am generating with the help of bookmarks.
Please help in how do i do that 'coz i am not able to do it using the Rich Text Format...
Thanking you,

I had to delete a database so I exported selected records using export as a text file thinking I would get some sort of delimited text file that I could later use. Instead I got some sort of fixed length file with .............. between records and | between fields.
I'd like to convert this data to a tab delimited file.
How would I do this?
Thanks

What I need to do is I want to calculate the keyword density in the article. I can do that if i know how to search the whole text in the article and count the specific word. And I want a function to count all the words in the article too.

I'm about to connect my DB to word. So I made a form where the user has to choose what entry to export. The data is inserted in a word file in different bookmarks. But there is one special task to insert the rich text so in this case the html formatted text is displayed like this:
Code:
<html><div>asdf</div></html>
My Text is inserted like this:
Code:
wdApp.ActiveDocument.Bookmarks("-Bookmarkname-").Range.Text = Lrs("-ColumnName-")
Lrs is a Recordset.
So how is it possible to display the html code right in the Word doc?

My end goal is to populate a pre-existing table in an MS Word document with records from a query. The easiest way I've found (through scouring the internet) is to start with the code below (ran during OnClick() even in Access) to get the table the same size as the recordset:
Code:
Dim wDoc As Word.Document
Dim wTable As Word.Table
Dim wCell As Word.Cell
Set wDoc = appWord.Documents.Add(strDocLoc)
wDoc.Visible = True
[Code] ....
The code will shrink the table down just fine if the table has more rows than the recordset +1 (for header column). My hangup with this is the last line ("Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5") isn't executing; rows are not being added to the table. I get no errors -- it just does nothing. I set it as "Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5" arbitrarily just to see if it would even add rows, and sure enough it's not.

I have a brand new database in-the-works that is causing me headaches. For some reason, if I create a query and then exit and re-enter the database, I cannot re-open that query. I get an Error 3112 (cannot be read; no read permission on <name>) and to contact the administrator or creater of the database.
I'M the creator and the administrator on this thing - so why can't I get into the darn thing? I haven't added any security features. This has never happened before on any database I've created, so obviously, it's frustrating.
Any ideas?

I've just attempted to develop my first Access database which I've tested and seems to work well. I've copied it to use at another location but can only open in "read only", eliminating the ability to do further development or editing. How can I copy or open this database at another location?
Thanks,

Hi All
Pretty new to all this Access stuff but have to know how to do it for work! Doh! So heres what im trying to do...
We have a database in work that we keep all our info on our clients, but it is very out of date and the questions do not correspond with the answers we recieve from clients now etc.
I've started making up a new database as we are unable to change/edit the old one as the person who made it, left no note of the password!
I've created a switchboard page to direct the people to the specific parts of the database (e.g. there is one set up with a query to find people on a waiting list and all they do is click that and it displays their details).
Im wanting to make up a bit that you can send them out a letter, like we have set up in work. What happens is we click the button to 'Send Appointment Letter' and it goes into another sub-switchboard sort of thing and we pick what kind of letter ie first appointment, second appointment etc.
What I need to know is, how to narrow the letter down to a specific date. ie, in work a dialouge box comes up asking me to put in the date the person has their appointment on and then it displays a Report (I think) in Access which is in the shape of a letter with all their details on it including name address appointment time, date and venue.
I want to know how I would first of all:
Create the Report?? if thats what it is for the letter
how to put their information into the letter?
how would i find i get the dialouge box to come up and ask me to input the date ?
Im really quiet unsure and would really appreciate some help!
Hopefully someone out there actually knows what I mean lol!
I've got plenty of more questions by the way. If you can email me your answers please at jamesy.higgins@ntlworld.com. If you would like me to send you a copy of the database to try and work out how to do it, dont hesitate to contact me. I will email it as it is too big to fit on this post (500kb) Doh!
Please, if anyone could help me that would be great. Just even if they try and do something to it and send it back to me?
Anything is worth a try:confused: .
Thank you !

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, so MODS, do what you will.
I'll come out and admit it right now, I'm a newbie here and have just started using Access2003. I'm in a city government so I need other users to be able to view and access my database, BUT I don't want them to be able to edit or change things. I want to be the Owner/Administrator of the database and no one else. I want to be the only person that can make changes.
Is this possible in Access 2003? Can other users only open it in Read-Only format but when I open it, it's editable?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
