I'm looking for some code to be able to send a popup or system message to a user connected to an access 2007 database. I know the computer name connected, but I'm not sure who or where it is. I already have a method for kicking everyone out of the database, but I really only want to use that when necessary. I would prefer to try a more gentle message request for them to disconnect first.
View RepliesI run a multi-user system of over 200 users. The only facility I have for advising an office-wide logout is required is the email system. However, staff either don't read their email or forget so I have to run around like a headless chicken trying to get everyone to get out/stay out of the system while I perform maintenance etc. Is there a way to enforce a logout and keep users logged out until a requested time without spending a fortune on new software?
Any advice would save me a lot of hair pulling (not mine :)).
Is there a way to send another user a message within Access? (Like "Instant Messenger" or Lotus Notes "SameTime") If you have any experience or info I would appreciate some info.

I maintain a simple Access database which about 30 other users have open every day and use it solely as a reference book. It is simply a large reference 'toolbox' with one form and many many sub reports in the form with links to refference guides for my users. Very often I need to add new reports and just new content overall to the database. My current process is to
1) make a copy
2) modify the copy with all my new content
3) Send and email with the file attached telling all 30 users to delete their old database and use this updated version.
Of course we have many issues including:
1) The files are very large in Lotus notes (is there a way to make these files a lot smaller)
2) Seems like a waste to delete and replace an entire database when only 1 or 2 minor links need to be changed every time. Is there a macro or some code I can create that would act as a patch where the 30 users can run the code and it will change hyperlink paths that I needed changed, report content or anything that needs changing.
gets around having all my users copy and replacing their database toolbox on their desktop. We all work out of a shared network drive so I can have them use the database together in a shared drive but its litterally impossible to have every hand out of the database all at once so I can go in and update, it just does not happen so if there is a work around for getting all users out of the DB, it could avoid having to do anything else.
I have look around in the forums, but I haven't found what I was looking for. I just maybe didn't use the correct search criteria. But anyway this is what I am looking for.
When a certain user Logon into the database. I would like the have a message sent just to that one particular user. Bottom line is. When a report is due and that user is responsible for it, I would like a notification go to that user.
Can this be done and how would one go about this?

I've got one of my users which has just started getting the "Can't send this e-mail message" error. Found reference to it being trying to send an email without editing (MS article 884998. My editmessage is set to yes so I know it is not this exact problem but just wondering if anyone else had has this type of issue before and could they get around it?
I tried searching but with such common words it wouldn't return any results.
My requirements is to send the alert messages with the approaching due date on every Monday of the week. I am able to send alert messages on Monday. My Problem is: How to send alert messages on Tuesday if Monday is Vacation. Is there a way to do it in access? I don't have much experience in access.

I have some code that when a check box in a table is ticked, sends a pop up message to the users logged in (message is on a hidden form), then it closes the DB after a pre-dtermined period of time.
The problem I'm having is that we are a large site with a about 25 differnet servers that our users log onto via Citrix, when a user is on a different server it isn't displaying the message nor closing the DB down.
trying to achieve this? Or is there a better way to see who is logged in and get a message to them?

As an "admin" of our corporate local db, maintaining and/or upgrading is my task.
Usually there are logged-in users, then I have to ask them (mostly via communicator) to please log off, because I can not modify with users in the db.
I would like to send these users a message via Access, like "Please log off from the db for maintenance blabla".
I have created a profiling form for my school. Each boy can access his form using his admission number ( Adno) which is the primary key. On the form are lots of sub forms - for things like favourite authors, clubs, teams played in etc - but these don't have a primary key ( as they are automatically linked to the Adno via the main form ). Unfortunately when several boys are filling in their own forms at the same time I keep getting error messages, one says that the data can't be updated and another says that there is a primary key problem.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have our primary web based inventory system that I am exporting to Excel and using this as an import to Access for the main raw data for my database. This being inventory it changes daily so I am updating this table every day. When I try to append the table it ads all the records. I am wanting an easy way to add only the new records/take out the ones that are no longer there. Basically update the table with what is currently there.The only have I have found to do this is by running non-matching queries and update queries.

Users can be friends with one another and I need some way of logging this.
My 2 options (that i can see) are:
1) Putting a friends entry in the main user table then comma delimiting the User_ID's in the friend entry like so:
User_ID: 001
Name: John
Hobby: Frizbee
Favorite_Food: Cake
Friends: 002,004,010
2) Making a seperate table with multiple entries for each user like so:
User: 001
Friend 002
---
User: 001
Friend: 004

User: 001

The database has to be handled by a web service and/or a web appliction making the comma delimited option occupy more server time breaking down the string into usable user_ID's.
But (and this is probably my actual problem) if i was to impliment my second idea, I'm not sure what I should make the tables primary key or the best way to relate it to the main user table.
My initial thought is to just have a, technicaly useless, ID be the primary key and impliment a one(User) to many(friends entries) relationship... but im a bit of an access n00b so thought i better come ask for some advice.

Now I want To create a form where i am able to choose customer, the employee performing the haircut or massage
The price should be displayed and the total AMount
How can I do that?
Should I create a Query and based on the query I create the form?

I am still a bit confused about the system.mdw file.
I create FE and BE on my local computer and change name of system.mdw to say Jobs.mdw, after backing up system.mdw I then join jobs.mdw with my jobs FE and jobs BE and set secutity settings, etc. I then place
FE, BE and Jobs.mdw all in the same folder.
I now email jobs database with jobs.mdw file to client which places FE, BE and jobs.mdw in Jobs folder on server. Shortcut for fe is placed on each local machine.
My question-Does Jobs FE and Jobs BE still access Jobs.mdw even though placed on another computer and possibly another version of Access?
Does the shortcut have to reference Jobs.mdw?
I need to understand this.

Hi, I am trying to implement my Database with an enquiry (or quotation) table and I am not sure I am heading in the right direction:
-We use assemblies made of components and the data are held together in the database with a 'Bill of Material' set up.
-A typical assembly is made of 1 or 2 bodies + Fasteners (straps and screws),
-The body price is calculated depending on his weight and an extra costs can be added with extra tooling and machining,
The costumer ask us for a quotation for various number of assemblies and we send back the estimation of the price,
I am really struggling to see if my tables are set right and this is what I came up with (attached rr.zip):
A main Enquiryfile Table is linked to an enquiryDetail Table which would record each individual item information for each Enquiry.
I have also added a Extracost detail table that would record all the Machining and extra pattern making cost for each assembly.
And finally, and that's what I am far to be sure about, a TblChildItemCost where the price of each components would be recorded (for each enquiry detail). The body price is based on his weight but also depend of various market exchange rates, that is the reason why I have created a table for the price of component for each enquiry.

My application I develop should retrieve some meta data from Access system tables. It should find:
- What tables are stored in database.
- What columns have each table in database.
- What relationships are between tables in database.
I opened systems tables of some .mdb file and took interest in such kind of information. But I got some problems by looking for what exactly I need. Please, could someone help me at these points:
1) I found that in system table MSysObjects I can find names and ids of tables created by user (for example by me). But how to determine that these tables are created by user and they are not let’s say a system tables?
2) I didn’t find any meta data about columns of tables! How to determine what columns has each table?
I created application which uses MS SQL Server to retrieve such a kind of meta information and there where no problems. But I stuck using Access.

I have two tables, one named Loan and one named DVD Details.
On my DVD details table i have a field name, on_loan with a data type yes/no.
I have created a form called LoanForm where i want to select a DVD with a combo box,
then select a Set loan button that will set the corresponding DVD on_loan field to yes(true), in the dvd form.
on the button i have the following code

But it doesn't seem to set the on_loan field in the DVD table to true, which is what i want to do.

Hi, I’ve been having some problems being able to do some things on my database, I was doing ok creating my system but now I’m a bit confused about what to do and I’ve been trying but getting no where. Firstly on my order form I need a total for the products which are in an subform and after the order is complete I need to be able to create an invoice and keep all the order information in the 'invoice' and 'invoice details' tables. I also need it to update the stock levels after the order is complete. Then I had created a tab in 'view customers' and I wanted to have it so that past customer orders could be viewed. I have a form where I enter student names, and it often happends that I enter the same student a couple times, Is there any way to let the user know that there is allready someone in the system with the same name, like a pop up message.:confused:

Someone, who is no longer working at out organisation, created a system in Access which we are trying to get into, however the creater put on some security which will not let us open the system to alter. Is there a way of getting into this?
