How To Stop Append Query Event Messages ?

Apr 25, 2005

Hi everyone, I'm nearly done finishing a database for a legal firm and one of the small issues I'm having with this project is that, I have a button that creates records in other tables once a record is created in a primary table.

I have a table called tbl_login, it has a field called job_number (which is an autonumber), and when all the info is entered in the form associated with tbl_login I want a button to give the user the ability to create a record in tbl_billing with the value of job_number, now this is a easy append query, works great, but the problem is, when the button is pressed there is an event message, "You are about to update an table....." this is the natural warning even message that access gives before a change is made, my questions is.

To please me end users, how do I get that event message to stop popping up. So they just hit the button, it appends, no warning.

I'm open to suggestions,

Remove Append Query Messages

Dec 22, 2006

Hello friends,

I have slitted my database and given each user a copy of the front end so tha I can work on the master. I have notice that each time I sent them an updated copy of the new file once they replace the old one in their C drive, when they run a push button which makes run certain append queries, I have noticed that the message comes up although I have removed it from the Options settings. I was wandering if there was a way I can exclude this via code. THank you.

Modules & VBA :: Stop Append Query To Add Same Records Again

Mar 23, 2015

I'm using an append query that needs to add the records from another database into a table. I can get it to get the data and add the records. There are other columns in the database that are not in the one the data is pulled from. If I would run the append query again, it would add the same records again at the end. How can I avoid this? I only need to add new records that are not yet in the database I want to pull the records to.

Default Access Messages On Query Run

Nov 18, 2007

Hi there,

I have an access database in which I am updating a table from a form using visual basic for access. I have got the update to work, however before the application appends the table, it asks a question "You are about to append a row" then an option for "yes or no"

I have a custom message that appears after the appending, but I do not want the message in bold above to appear at all. Does anyone know how I can suppress that message?

Thanks

How To Disable Action Query Popup Messages

Aug 18, 2006

I'm told (via the non-helpful help system packaged with MsAccess) that the way to 'turn off' the helpful confirmation message related to an action query is under tools>Options>Edit/Find tab, and then uncheck the appropriate boxes.

I've done this. In fact, right now I have all three boxes unchecked which relate to confirmation messages (record changes, document changes, and action queries) - and I'm still having that same popup message every time I run the query, or have a report pull the query for me.

this wouldn't be more than just a hassle, except that one of the end users for this system isn't the most computer-savvy person in the whole world. In fact, I desperately need to "steve-proof" this system! I have this nightmare of being woken up at midnight because of this little glitch. any ideas how to disable that popup confirmation message for good??

MS Access Can't Append All The Records In The Append Query

Feb 18, 2007

hi Guys,
I have been looking at different post and checking Microsoft help files as well, but still can't seem to fix this problem.

I am having 2 tables. The first table is connected to a form for viewing and entering data, and in the second table i am just copying 3-4 fields from the first table.

I am trying to use the insert statement to insert records in the second table, and everytime i click on the "Add" button to add the records i get the following error "MS access can't append all the records in the append query ... blah blah blah"

However if i close the form and reopen it, and goto the record (as it is saved in the first database) and now click on the add button to add the fields to the second table/database, it works.

What am i doing wrong???

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Queries :: Pop Up Messages When Running Update Query / Macro

Jan 1, 2015

I have 3 different "buttons" on my form that run individual update queries. I know these update queries are running correctly. Decided to make a macro that will allow me to run all these queries by clicking one macro button.

My question is: Is there some way to stop the pop up msg that advises I am about to run an update query and the next pop up msg that informs me of how many rows I am going to update?

These pop up boxes are starting to drive me crazy when I run the macro.

Queries :: Stop Query From Running Automatically

Jan 14, 2014

I have a form with tab set one tab called "Enter Receipt" and another that houses 2 queries called "Reconcile". My issue is when I open that form, I have an On Current Macro to go to NEW record for my Enter Receipt, but I am getting a delay while the query status bar runs the other queries. I was hoping not to have those ran until i enter the parameters and hit the run button on that "reconcile tab".

Everything else works, i just need the queries to keep from running when i load the form. my queries i moved from EDITED to NO LOCKS thinking the On Current new record may affected them, not change in delay.

Database Closes On Save Of Query: How Do I Stop This Happening

Nov 3, 2005

I've got a database, which has been working fine for the last 6 months, it's nt spectacularly large, or complex (abotu 10mb, 15 tables, (5 of which are lookups), about 20 forms, 40 reports, and 30 or so queries).

I've tried to add a new query today, again nothing special:

all comes from one table:
column 1 - group by
column 2 - max
column 3 - if = "No"
column 4 is an expression: iif (a=1,col_a,iif(a=2,col_b,iif(a=3,col_c, .... ))) and so on for 8 col_*'s

The query creates happily enough, and is viewable.
When I try to save it, access shuts down completely with no warnings.

creating the query apart from the last column, saving it then works, but on adding the final column the database shuts down every time.

any ideas? I'm at a loss on this.

Cheers
Kev

Stop/SKIP Appending Query If Duplicate Found

Mar 25, 2007

I want to stop/skip appending of those records who match in main data table "MCIGMMS" on the basis [PORTCD] [IGMNO] fields in "PCIGMMS2". When Match found Msg Box appear and appending skip or stop of those records.

Subforms Stop Working After Adding Table To Query

Aug 16, 2013

I have a form with sub-forms. All the subforms work smoothly, I am able to assign students to classes, enter their late/absence data etc... But there's 1 subform that I want to include the Gender (male,female) so I have to go back to the query (see attached picture) to include the table with gender data and map it with other tables, then insert a combo box in that subform, which display the gender of the student along side with other data.

But the problem is as soon as I modify the query for that subform, all the subforms (including that one) stop working, I'm not able to enter and change anything with error like Recordset is Noteditable ( see attached screenshot).

And after I remove that table from the query and the combo box from the subform every works just fine again.

Queries :: Numbering Column Causing Query To Stop Responding

Aug 5, 2013

I ran some code to number old records in a column to order items in a datasheet subform however after updating the column in the inventory transactions table when opening the main form that relies on it. It runs a query to determine the customers balance due and the query for that is taking forever to run like 2-3 minutes or more however reverting to an old copy of the data it runs fine and all I did was renumber records in one column most of which had 1s in them the code to re-number the records:

Code:
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim i As Long
Dim OID As Long
Dim stringSQL as String
i = 1

[Code] .....

I continued playing with this today and the query that is breaking the 2nd level subquery that actually references the inventory transactions table that I changed runs fine but go up a level to subquery1 which references subquery2 and a sum of payments query and it chokes however sum of payments only refernces the payments table.

I did some more testing today Subquery2 and sum of payments query both run faster than what I can time with a stopwatch but when combined they take approximately 1:45 there are only 5 columns in subquery1 four from subquery2 and 1 from the sum of payments 3 of the first 4 are sum and the last is group by and then the one from sum of payments is group by

Subquery 2:

Code:
SELECT
CLng((nz([UnitsSold])*nz([UnitPrice]))*(1-nz([Discount]))*100)/100 AS [Line Total],
CLng([Line Total]*(1+nz([SalesTaxRate]))*100)/100 AS [Line Total With Tax],
[Line Total With Tax]-[Line Total] AS [Line Tax],
[Inventory Transactions].*

[Code] .....

Queries :: Opening Design View Of Append Query Without Timing Out Source Query

Mar 4, 2015

In some cases I create pass-through queries and use these in an Append or Make-table query to bring data locally.

All is well and fine until source data changes and the pass-through query runs too long and times out.

If needed, I can extend the timeout value in the Parameters of the pass-through query no problem, but when I try to open the Append or Make-table query in Design view to do the same, the pass-through query is first triggered and then throws the timeout, and I cannot access the Design view of the Append or Make-table

Is there a way to open an Append or Make-table query in Design view without invoking the source query?

Update Messages

Nov 15, 2005

I have a form that has a bunch of text boxes and a few drop down boxes (that reference lookup tables) that allow the user to add to a lookup table.

I have this working and the tables are beign updated. My question is that when I go to save I get a message box saying ("YOU ARE ABOUT TO APPEND 1 ROW (Yes/No)") for every look up table.

Is there a way to not show this message box. I think I am getting one for the form and other text boxes in general and then 7 more for each Lookup table. I am cool with one, but want to get rid of all the Lookup Table message to update.

Below you will see a bit of the code that I am using to update the Lookup tables.

CODE:
SQL = "INSERT INTO tbl_CITY VALUES ( '" & CITY & "' )"
SQL2 = "INSERT INTO tbl_INSP VALUES ( '" & INSP & "' )"
SQL3 = "INSERT INTO tbl_OCCUPANCY VALUES ( '" & OCCUPANCY & "' )"
SQL4 = "INSERT INTO tbl_STATE VALUES ( '" & STATE & "' )"
SQL5 = "INSERT INTO tbl_TYPE VALUES ( '" & RENTALTYPE & "' )"
SQL6 = "INSERT INTO tbl_UNITS VALUES ( '" & UNITS & "' )"
SQL7 = "INSERT INTO tbl_ZIP VALUES ( '" & ZIP & "' )"

DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL2)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL3)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL4)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL5)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL6)
DoCmd.RunSQL (SQL7)

Append Query .v. Table Query .v. Headache!

Mar 20, 2007

Ok, this is what I want to do :

I want to 'append' individual records from 2 tables and place in an archive table or within another database, whichever is the best option.
I then want to be able to 'delete' the relevant records from one table.

The tables are tproperty and trents. This property paid rents but has since been sold. Therefore it no longer belongs in the database, however client wishes to keep details of the property/person/and rents paid in past, for any future ref. These tables are linked in relationships to tlessee and tbilling.
I've read books/notes/looked on here for inspiration and the right direction! If I choose 'append' which seems pretty straight forward then a 'delete' query, how do I choose only one record? Is a make-table onto a different database a better option? It would appear that the whole table is copied over? Can't understand the issue about auto-numbers being copied over? Do I have to use an append/delete query for each individual property that's ever removed?
I'm at a loss! :) Thanks
