Queries :: Top N Records By Volume / Group

Sep 6, 2013

I have a table which holds parts sales data for 6 individual dealers, and I basically want to be able to produce a report which details the top 10 selling products by volume by group. I can produce a query which gives me the top 10 results of ALL of my groups accumulated, but really need this to be split by group, and would prefer not to create 6 different queries to obtain the data.

My table (tbl_Part Sales by Dealer) has the following fields:

Dealer Code
Part
Description
Volume
Sales

So I'd like the results to show the top Part sales by Volume, for each of the (6) Dealer Codes within the table.

Queries :: Order To Get A Sum Of Volume With Only One SKU Code Listed In Column 1

Jun 21, 2013

I created a query, and in field one i have a list of SKU codes (of which many are repeats), and in field two I have their corresponding volumes. In Fields 3-5 I have some various algebraic calcuations.

Now, in order to get a sum of the volume with only one SKU code listed in column 1, I use a group by on the SKU code, and a sum for the volume. When these are the only fields in the query, this works great. But when I add in the other calculated fields, the run query returns to showing each SKU code multiple times, and shows the volume and the calculations correctly. When I change the other calculated fields to Sum, then I get the aforementioned overflow error and no output at all.

Is there a way to both set it so that the output is only showing one SKU code, the total volume for that SKU, and the weighted average output of the other calculations in one query?

Add Record From Current Form To A Table?

Aug 26, 2013

I have a database that includes the following items related to my question:

- Tables: tblCases, tblPeople, tblPeoplePerCase,

- Forms: frmCases, frmPeople, subfrmPeoplePerCase, frmSearchPeople

What I'm trying to do is automate the process of adding a selected person to a particular case. What I'm thinking is that frmCases (which includes subfrmPeoplePerCase) will include a button to add a person to the case. Once clicked, frmSearchPeople would open. Once a person is selected and frmPeople displays their information, a button would then be displayed/enabled on frmPeople to add them to the current case in frmCases. Once this button is clicked, it would display a message box asking to confirm if PersonID should be added to CaseID. If confirmed, the information is then appended to tblPeoplePerCase (which includes PersonID, CaseID). The user is then brought back to frmCases and the subfrmPeoplePerCase displays the newly related information.

Copying The Current Record On A Form To Another Table

Dec 17, 2007

is there an easy way to copy the current record on a form when clicking a command button such that a snapshot of that record is copied to a table for archiving purposes?

the table has about 120 columns so it is cumbersome to write an Insert Into sql statement within VBA code.

what i am attempting should be quite straightforward...i just want to take the current record in its entirety that is from a single table and append it to another table of the same structure.

any help would be appreciated!

Modules & VBA :: Copy Value From Current Form To A Table

Aug 27, 2013

I have a projects Database with: Projects_Table, Staff_Table.

Both tables has forms for data entry or update. Each project has many staff allocated to it.

In the Staff_Form I placed the Project_Code in the form heading section. The form opens based on a search criterion on the project_code so it shows the staff for that project only. The issue is when I try to add a new staff for that project on the Staff_Form, the project_code stays blank in the staff_table.

What I need is that the project_code in the staff_table for that newly added person to have the same project_code on the opened form. Simply to link the staff to the project they work in when I add them using the form.

Queries :: Append Current Form Name To Another Table

Apr 23, 2013

I have two append queries that I use to archive certain data from two different tables to one archive table. The queries are run from the corresponding forms of the two tables. I would like to be able to add the form name to the append query.

That is, if the old data is coming from FrmA, then the Archive table would show that the old data came from FrmA or TblA, etc. I added a field in the Archive table [FormName]. I know you can call the name of the form by =frm.name, but how do I append this to the Archive table without having to have the Archive form open?

Forms :: How To Copy Unbound Text Box On Form To A Current Record In Table

May 17, 2015

I created an unbound text box on a form that automatically pulls the current logged in user by using this:

Private Sub Txtuser_Click()
Me.Txtuser = Environ("Username")

The form grabbs the logged in user with no problems, however, I ultimately want this information to also end up in my table. So the form has three boxes (to keep it simple). The user will type their first name and last name manually on the form which the record source is this "table" where their name goes to the table last name =Field 1 and first name=Field 2 respectively. I want the unbound box from the form to place the logged in user in Field 3 for the current record.

Update Current Record

Jun 1, 2005

I am a relative Newbie so if my question sounds stupid, bear with me:

I have a form with a subform linked to a query.

On the subform i have a checkbox[Recieved] and when checked adds a date to
another field [Year] on the subform which in turn updates the record in a table[Orders].

I then click a command button on the form which runs a crosstab query based on the
updated fields in the table [Orders].

This works well except for the last record ammended which does not update the [Year]
field in the table [Orders]. When the command button is clicked it is still the current
record in the subform.

clicking another record in the subform solves this or closing the form and reopening it before running the crosstab query.

Is there an easier way to automate the update? So that the user does not have to select another record first.

Update Next Record While Still On Current

Jul 12, 2006

I have a form(F_Roll) that runs from a query(Q_roll) which asks the user to input the date. New records are made from this form, and it also allows the user to look at the records from past dates. On this form, my next button creates a new record for that date and fills a field called "RollNumber" with a running counter based on the CurrentRecord. If no roll is present for that date, "RollNumber"=1. If the "Next" button is pushed and "RollNumber"=1, then on the next record, "RollNumber" is filled with 2. If 2 then 3,etc. "RollNumber" is my primary key for the table(T_Roll), and actually, I have the date in front of the counter. The data in "RollNumber" is like "071206-1", "071206-2", "071206-3", "071206-4", etc.
What I want to do is have a button on my main form(F_Roll) that will open a new modal, pop-up form on top of my main form that allows the user to enter data for the next record(roll) while still on the current record(roll).
I can get it to work if the next record(roll) has already been made. But if I make a new record through the pop-up form and then try to goto the next record I my main form, I get a primary key error about making duplicate primary keys when trying to save the record.
The problem is(I think)- The query for the main form has already ran, so it doesn't recognize the new record made from the pop-up form. When the next button is pushed, it is creating a duplicate record(roll) in the primary key.
Does anyone have any ideas how to work around this?
I am using Access 2003

Update (write) Current Record

Jun 27, 2006

I have a small problem: I just want my form to update the current record because I'm opening (with a button) a second form which uses the values of some of its table fields.
If I open 2nd form without updating, it will use old values, and if the record I was worknig with is a NEW record, 2nd form simply can't find it because it's not been written!
So:
1. I want to tell the button to UPDATE record before opening the 2nd form.
2. In addition, I could want to go to 2nd form DIRECTLY from the same field I want to update and use in 2nd form (through a Keypress event instead of a button), but this is more difficuolt because I still didn't EXIT from the field but I already want to use the text manually updated in the field... any idea?

Thanks

Forms :: Update Dropdown Box For Current Record Set?

Jan 23, 2014

i have a database

two tables: Addresses, Instructions
One form_one subform: User form

The user form contains set of instructions for each company that we take care off, the sub-form has all of the addresses for the company, these come from the "Address" table, the two are linked via a field called "companyID" so the subform only displays the addresses for the current company being viewed on the form.

The problem is, on the subform there is a dropdown box called "administrator" and this is used to select the person who is looking after the company. Some of the companies have hundreds of addresses, so when i click the next record button on the subform I have to fill in the administrator again for every address for the same company. Is there a way using vba or a simple function to auto update all of the "administrator" dropdown boxes for that company based on the administrator I select for the first address.

Modules & VBA :: Current Checkbox Label Update

May 25, 2014

I have the following module which displays the backcolor of a checkbox label if it is true or false

Private Sub FormatLabel(chk As Control)
With chk.Controls(0)
If chk Then
.BackColor = vbYellow
.BackStyle = 1
.ForeColor = vbRed

[Code] .....

Which works great! But I cannot figure out how to make it work in the control AfterUpdate Event. I tried using it in the current control's (checkbox) after update event

Dim itm As Control
If itm.ControlType = 106 Then FormatLabel itm

but nothing happens (no change, no error message).

I have tried creating a new module:

Public Sub CheckBoxFormat(chk As Control)
If chk = -1 Then
chk.BackColor = vbYellow
chk.BackStyle = 1
chk.ForeColor = vbRed
Else
chk.BackColor = vbWhite
chk.ForeColor = vbBlack
End If
End Sub

But when I try to call it in the AfterUpdate event for the particular checkbox

Private Sub CheckBoxA_AfterUpdate()
Dim itm As Control
If itm.ControlType = 106 Then
CheckBoxFormat itm
End Sub

I get the error message "Expected Variable or Procedure not module"

So, (1) is my module all wrong or (2) am I calling it incorrectly or (3) wrong on both items?

How To Add A Command Button To Update Current Record Found

Dec 14, 2012

I am on Access 2007, and know very basic stuffs to create tables, queries, and form search. I have just successfully completed a search form filtered with a combobox. Also I have a built-in subform within the main form to display other results as well. The display results are based on one complex query (relational query). Now I need to add a command button that would take me to another form to update the current record found.Quick on the design:

- When I search a subject in a main form(subject lists in the combobox), it would populate results below in the main form and also subform would populate other results as well.

1. Add a command button so can take me to new form, but would need to have the current record populated.
2. Once updated, then how do I save it?

Built Form On Top Of Table - Use Combo Box To Update Value On Form

Sep 20, 2012

I have a table called input and a "form" input made on top of that same table. When I input the data on the form it updates properly no issues.

I have another table main. i update the vendor name using combo box from main.

It works like that.

SELECT main.[Vendor Number], main.[Vendor Name]
FROM main;

And I update the vendor name using control source =vendorname.column(1)

I have even achieved the same thing using DlookUp .

The problem is that it saves on the Form but the data from Dlookup or from comboBox updates for "Vendoe Nmae" is not saved in input table.

Using Form To Update A Table

Jul 7, 2005

Hi everybody.

I have a problem with a form that will update two tables.

I have 2 unbound comboxes that define the lower and upper
limit of the data I want to update.

Something like Combo1 = (#5-1) ; Combo2 = (#5-9)

Then I have 3 textboxes that are unbound. They will recieve
information from the user(keyboard), about the location of
certain pictures on my HD.
(Textbox1) will be the path of the picture, (texbox2) will be
the name of the picture and (textbox3) is the database number
of the picture (like 29).

I also have a (commandbutton1) that would update the respective
tables related with the form, Textbox1 will update the field
[Objecto] of table1, Textbox2 will update the field [Name]
of table1 and Textbox3 will update the field [PhotoNumber] of
table1.

I don't know the code that should go on the click event of
the commandbutton.

Can someone help me?

With best regards

Jorge

P.S. The lower and upper limits should also be updated with the path, name and number
