How To Validate Data In Textbox

Hi All,

Does someone know how to validate data entered in textbox to a table? In other words: how to check the value entered in the textbox exists in the table.

Thanks.

General :: Validate Headers Of Source Data

Jan 17, 2014

I'm working with several different source datasets. Mostly this are TXT files.

When I import the data in a new table with a specification, I want to validate if the dataset is the correct dataset be validating the headers in the source data.

I have created a table with the headers, that consists of 92 columns. Below 3 example columns of the header data:

tbl_Tickets_Headers
Field1 Field2 Field3
StagnationId TicketTypeId SequenceNr

Now I want to check during the import of the imported data has a line in it that is equal to the data in the table headers. If not, the import stops and informs the user that the data set is not correct. This to prevent that incorrect data will be inserted into the database.

Some extra information: The data is import into the database via VBA DoCmd.TransferText into a new created table, using an inport specification.

If the data is okay, it will be appended to an existing table that is being used to process the data further. After that the import table is being deleted.

Forms :: Validate Variable With Table Data

Jun 26, 2015

I am trying to deny users from logging on from multiple pc's. Here is how i've got it so far, created table tblLoginLock with fields EmpID and LoggedIn both numberical data type created a form to set the Empid with tempvar!TempEmpId and LoggedIn as 1 when a user logs in.When he clicks the logOff button he is signed out and a form opens up and closes to set the LoggedIn field to 0.Now whenever a user is signed the LoggedIn Field is checked with this expression

Code:
DLookUp("[TempVars]!TempEmpID","tblLoginLock","[LoggedIn]=1")

if there is a one then the user is logged in the condtion is met and a message box pops up to warn the user that he is already logged in.

The above code does not check the specific TempVar to the LoggedIn field, the LoggedIn field is randomly checked for a '1' meaning if there is a '1' anywhere in the table then the condition is met and the user denied. how can i set the condition to validate the logged in user to the LoggedIn field.

Forms :: Continuous Subform - Validate Data Before Saving To Table

May 18, 2013

I have a continuous subform that displays lots of questions. This specific form has 10 questions on it. Each question has one answer and the users are required to select one answer for each question. I am trying to do some data validation before the data gets saved to my table to ensure that users have answered all the questions. I found some very useful code online and tweaked it to suit my needs. The validation works perfectly on subforms with only one question, as I have some other tabs that use it.

On the specific form that has the issue, the validation works as expected when no question has been answered, but when a user answers only one question and leaves the remaining nine questions blank, the validation does not work. I guess it is as a result of the continuous form repeating the different questions and ms access thinking that the data entered for one question alone is complete when it actually isn't.

Code:
Private Sub Ctl4_frm_Staff_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
Dim ctrl As Control, EmptyStr$
For Each ctrl In Form_subFrm_staffQuestion.Controls
If InStr(1, ctrl.Tag, "Required") > 0 Then
If IsNull(ctrl.Value) Or ctrl.Value = vbNullString Or Len(ctrl.Value) = 0 Then

[Code] ......

Modules & VBA :: Retrieve / Validate Data On 2nd Form Based On Record Selected On 1st Form

Jul 29, 2013

Can I look up and verify data on a "second" form based on a selected record from first (still open) form.

I am trying to allow users to select a User Name from a combo box list and then open "Change Password" form when they select "Change Password" for that selected user name.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to associate and verify the data tied to the user name selected on the previous (Login) form ( I am trying to validate the old password tied to that selected record).

I have the first login form created, and it's working just fine. I also have the change password form created (and it's displaying the user name selected from the first form using:

Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
With Forms![frmLogin]![cboUserName]
Me.txtPwdChgUserID = .Column(2, .ListIndex)
End With
EndSub

I also have the code written to validate and confirm old password, new password and validate new password (when the save button is clicked). I have yet to update the password with the new password (still trying to figure that out).

Attached zip file has screen shots of the two forms.

Forms :: Bringing Entered Data From One Textbox On Form To Textbox On Another Form

May 17, 2013

I currently have two froms, "add record" and "add record cont." The reason I have two seperate forms is because when clients create a new record information needs to be saved to two different tables and when creating one from with fields from both tables I ran into many problems. The two tables are named : tblMain, tblFileLoc Currently there is a textbox on both forms named "fileID" the FileID in the first form is from tblMain and is the primary key for that table, the FileID on the second form "Add Record Cont." is just a normal field. When clients enter in the new FileID in the first form "Add Record" and then move onto the next form "Add Record Cont." i need access to bring the entered FileID from the first form and Fill it in the FileID field in the second form. Currently I have tried making the control source for the textbox on the second form = the textbox on the first form but it brought up an error.

Textbox Data To Several Tables

Jan 10, 2006

I am trying to link the textboxes on a form so that their values are stored in 2 seperate tables.
Setting the Record Source of the Form to TableA and the various Text boxes etc are set to the Fields in that table works fine, however I want some other text boxes to be linked to another set of table fields, so that when I enter values into those text boxes the data ends up in a different table.

Has anyone any ideas on how text boxes on one form can be linked to different tables.

Can't Insert Data Into Textbox?????

Jun 15, 2005

why do i get all the weird problems?
does anyone have any idea why a textbox would act like it was locked, even though it's not?

anyway, the text box works fine, until i click my button which goes to a certain record based on my listbox. the code for the click event is as follows:

Code:Private Sub cmdFindProcess_Click()blnexist = True Dim rst As dao.Recordset Dim strSearchName As String Set rst = Me.RecordsetClone strSearchName = Str(Me!List26.Value) rst.FindFirst "ID = " & strSearchName Me.Bookmark = rst.Bookmark rst.Close If Me.List26.ItemsSelected.Count = 0 Then MsgBox "Please select your process", vbOKOnlyElseMe.formattedtimeelapsed.Visible = True Me.StartTime.Visible = True Me.EndTime.Visible = True Me.btnStartStop.Visible = True Me.btnStartStop.SetFocus Me.StartTimeLabel.Visible = True Me.EndTimeLabel.Visible = True Me.InProcess.Visible = False Me.Current.Visible = True Me.NewProcess.Visible = False Me.hidID.Value = Me.List26.Value Me.formattedtimeelapsed.Value = "00:00:00" Dim Rc As dao.RecordsetDim Db As DatabaseDim SQL As StringSQL = "SELECT * FROM StopwatchRecord Where StopwatchRecord.ID=" & Me.List26.Value & ";"Set Db = CurrentDb()Set Rc = Db.OpenRecordset(SQL)Rc.MoveFirstMe.hidID.Value = Rc.Fields("ID")TotalElapsedMilliSec = Rc.Fields("ElapsedTime")Me.ElapsedTime.Value = Rc.Fields("ElapsedTime")Me.Comments.Value = Rc.Fields("Comments")Me.StartTime.Value = Rc.Fields("StartTime") Me.txtProcessDisplay.Value = Me.List26.Column(3) Me.txtActNumberDisplay.Value = Me.List26.Column(1) Me.Comments.Enabled = False Me.txtAdditionalComments.Visible = True Me.txtAdditionalComments.Enabled = True Me.txtAdditionalComments.Locked = False End If End Sub
my guess is that the "bookmark" code is not allowing it. i'm not sure however, how i could find the record any other way, if that is the problem....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,
*j

How To Validate HTML For URL Link

Jun 1, 2015

I have a form that needs to be updated by multiple users. The information must be entered in the following format:

<a href="http://website.com">Write any title here</a> and then they can add a description

The users are not familiar with HTML and often submit it with incorrect syntax. I would like to prevent these errors prior to submission by writing some sort of validation. Is there a way to accomplish this? I imagine a macro is best for this situation. Multiple entries are often entered in a single cell (not sure if this would mess with the validation?)

Hi
I have a form, which displays data from a query recordsource.
One of the textboxes is a "Comments" textbox, which I would like the user to write in directly, which in turn is a direct link to the data in the table so it is updated immediately.

At the moment, the textbox does not seem to be editable. Is there a standard way to do something like this ?

Validate Form Before Navigating To Next Record

Dec 7, 2006

Hi

I was wondering if anybody could help with this. I have searched through this forum and there doesnt seem to be an answer to this.

I have a form that i would like to validate. At present i have put the data validation on the save button which triggers a script that checks to see if certain boxes have been filled in on the form. I can only get this to work be attaching it to the onclick event on a save button, however, what i really want is to be able to ditch the save button (since access writes to the DB as it goes along) and have this script triggered whenever the user tries to navigate to either a new record/ another existing record or close the form

I tried putting this on the beforer update event, but this does not work, additionally tried doing before update event with the code inside an if me.form.dirty = true statement
this did not work either, has anybody got any suggestions

Please see my code below

Thanks

Marcus
