I have hyperlinks from within Access forms that link to Adobe PDF documents; these are the new PDF Package documents created with Acrobat 8 - and give the message "Multiple files are bound together in this PDF Package."
The problem I am having is that when ever I click on the hyperlink the computer hangs (from the task manager, I believe that it is Acrobat Reader that is hanging). This problem only occurs with multi-file PDF packages and does not occur with regular PDF's. It also only occur with MS Access, as linking to theses files from MS Word encounters no problems.
And yes I now that's the title of a Knowledge base article, I stole it because it put into words what I can only say in expletives right now.
Basically, well it's all a bit odd. I got users on the network who, until yesterday, could access some networked databases. Other files from the same source are ok, just Access files. Today the moment they click (and I mean a single-click) on the icon to open the database...explorer hangs. You can't open the database from within MS Access either, that hangs too. But you CAN open them up and use them if you can get them copied locally. Oh yeah, some people (in the same room, on the same VLAN) can access the database, but can't perform any tasks within it. Databases are a mix of 97 and 2000. And to make matters worse, it's happening on another server.
I know you're gonna shout virus, but that looks to be a non-starter since I know of no such virus which would affect ONLY Access files and do it on a single click, and secondly The systems check out fine with both Sophos (and our good luck charm AVG) run against them.
Holy Moley! Has anyone ever come accross such a palarva?
Does anybody know how to check a column of 1,800 File No. that they are assumably hyperlinked to *.pdf scanned data files to see which is actually hyperlinked which is not. Sometimes when I double click on the hyperlinked file number I get an error "unable to open file ....". There must be a way to check the whole column at once rather than check each file individually.
I have a database which creates hyperlinks to a network folder full of images (too many to attach to the database) but I can't figure out an easy way to show those images in forms and reports. I think I'm 90% there, looking online I figured out that if i create a text field (not a hyperlink) in the original table and copy over the hyperlink text, I can use this as the control source of an image control (with the picture type set to 'linked').
That works fine, but I would still have to manually copy over the URL every time I link to a new picture - so is there a way i can get this to feed through automatically?I've tried a couple of ways already (calculated fields, 'set value' macros) but the problem is anytime I try to get clever, Access doubles the link address, making it utterly useless as a control source.
So for example, i ran a macro to set the text field value to equal the hyperlink value of c:mydocspicture.jpg, and the result looked like this c:mydocspicture.jpg#c:mydocspicture.jpg#Or maybe there are functions similar to excel (like 'left' and 'len') which i can use to extract the right part of the hyperlink.
My client wants the email field in a table to automatically open his gmail account and post the email address in the To: field, so he wants the field to be set as hyperlinked.
I have a contacts database for an accountant with hyperlinks to numerous documents all set up and they work correctly - open the application and show document.
What I would really like to do is from within Access using VBA send an email to the client enclosing the hyperlinked document ( not the hyperlink itself which would not be available to the client).
I have a database with hyperlinks to open word documents on my network. If someone else has that word document open it will ask me if I want to notify or open in read only. However since upgrading to Access 2013, (from Access 2003), this sometimes freezes the database.
I am wandering is there a way to tell Access (or Word) to open the document in read only if there is someone using it already?
I'm having an application which is developed in access. It's running quite well, some times when I made changes to forms or reports it hangs for a while and exits without saving, it happens sometimes not always... what could be the problem? how can I rectify this..
I am facing a recent problem in my access 2002 and access 2010 on my computer. I am not able to run new queries even simple ones because when I try to execute it , it starts to hangs and access stop responding.
I have this problem that when I update the value in one of my tables, MS Access hangs up. I don't know why. I dont know if it's because of the updating or because of something else.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance! ;)
here the code that's executed when the approve button is clicked..
Private Sub Command43_Click()
Answer = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to approve this timesheet? Note that only projects approved by respective project managers will be approved.", vbYesNo) 'if cancelled If Answer = vbNo Then Else Dim rs As Object Dim x As Integer 'will be used as a flag for do while loop
x = 1 'initialize flag Set rs = Me.Recordset.Clone
'finding the first record wich matches the weekending doesn't give the right record 'right away. it may give a record with the right weekending but different eno. that is 'not supposed to happen. so once a weekending match is found, check if the eno also 'matches. this do..while loop will do the trick =) Do While x < 18 If rs!eno = Forms!TimesheetDetailsFrm!eno And rs!statusPM = "approved" Then rs.Edit rs!status = "approved" rs.Update x = x + 1 End If rs.FindNext "[weekending] = #" & Format(Me![weekending], "mm/dd/yyyy") & "#" Loop
'close this form and refresh the 'timesheets for approval' form Answer = MsgBox("You have successfully approved the timesheet. Close this window to continue viewing other submitted timesheets.") Forms!SupervisorFrm.Requery End If
End Sub
Thanks again..
ps. How do I mark a post as 'resolved'? Coz I have a previous post which has already been solved.. Thanks to all of you guys. ;)
My Access app hangs when running the following code on Form_Load:
VB Code: Original - VB Code Private Sub Form_Load()On Error GoTo listbox_errorDim strSQL As String, strList As StringDim listrs As New ADODB.RecordsetSet listrs = New ADODB.RecordsetstrSQL = "SELECT * FROM sections"listrs.LockType = adLockPessimistic With listrs .ActiveConnection = open_conn() .Open (strSQL) End WithDo Until listrs.EOFstrList = strList & listrs("id").Value & ";" & listrs("section").Value & ";"LoopstrList = Left(strList, Len(strList) - 1)Me.cmbSection.RowSource = strListMe.cmbSection.RowSourceType = "Value List"listrs.CloseSet listrs = Nothinglistbox_error:MsgBox Err.DescriptionExit SubEnd Sub Private Sub Form_Load()On Error GoTo listbox_errorDim strSQL As String, strList As StringDim listrs As New ADODB.RecordsetSet listrs = New ADODB.RecordsetstrSQL = "SELECT * FROM sections"listrs.LockType = adLockPessimistic With listrs .ActiveConnection = open_conn() .Open (strSQL) End WithDo Until listrs.EOFstrList = strList & listrs("id").Value & ";" & listrs("section").Value & ";"LoopstrList = Left(strList, Len(strList) - 1)Me.cmbSection.RowSource = strListMe.cmbSection.RowSourceType = "Value List"listrs.CloseSet listrs = Nothinglistbox_error:MsgBox Err.DescriptionExit SubEnd Sub
The connection is in a module named publicfunction: VB Code: Original - VB Code Public Function open_conn() As ADODB.Connection 'Opens connections to database Dim sPath As String sPath = CurrentProject.Path & "endjftocbe.mdb" Set open_conn = New ADODB.Connection With open_conn .Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" .ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & sPath & "; Jet OLEDB:Database Password=*****" .Open End WithEnd Function Public Function open_conn() As ADODB.Connection 'Opens connections to database Dim sPath As String sPath = CurrentProject.Path & "endjftocbe.mdb" Set open_conn = New ADODB.Connection With open_conn .Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" .ConnectionString = "Data Source=" & sPath & "; Jet OLEDB:Database Password=*****" .Open End WithEnd Function
Any ideas why it is hanging? The conn to the database is successful when I use it for the login procedure, but after that, I can't seem to get back in.
Some of my users do not have access to all of our servers. In trying to automate I've hit one user whose system hangs up when Access tries to write to a server folder she does not have write (or even read) permissions for (Error 52, Bad file name or number). See the "Me.CitationType > 500" line below.
Code: Private Sub comboStatus_AfterUpdate() Dim hDate As String Dim sFile As String
[Code]....
It gets as far as "If Len(Dir(hDate, vbDirectory)) = 0" and then hangs with Error 52. Testing for Dir() sooner doesn't work either.
how to either test for read-write permissions or trap Error 52. "On Error GoTo ErrorHandler" never fires to even test for 52, unless I'm missing something.
Access 2007 has hung up while I scrolled from left to right through the columns in a linked ODBC table in datasheet view. I understand why it "hangs" while scrolling through rows, but I've never heard of it doing this for columns and I am talking about a complete freeze up here.
When converting the Front End of my database to an MDE, Access just hangs and says (Not Responding). I've left it our an hour and there's no sign of stirring. The Back End converts in just a second or so.
I have MS Access 2002 version, I create one mdb file and then put it on the sharing drive, I install Access RunTime on my client machines, they can run the mdb file on the sharing drive.
Another way, I used Office XP Developer Edtion to create package and then install the package on my client machines, they can run the mdb file.
Here is a question, Why do we need Office XP Developer Edition to create the package? Because we just install Access Runtime on the client machines, then they can run the mdb files.
Ok, I have Acc2k3 professional with Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System which according to MS includes the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/office/officetools.aspx) that are required to package an MDE/ADE file using Acc2k3.
The question is how do I run it? I cannot find anything to do with packaging or deploying an Access file anywhere, not only in Access but ot the system and on the Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System cd.
I should point out that my PC has VB.NET 2003, Office 2003 (prof) and Office 2000 (prof - Access only) installed on XP SP2 (I believe that all relevant SPs and critical updates have been applied). I have tried upgrading my project from Acc2k to Acc2k3 and all to no avail.
I hope someone can help on here with this. I am having problems using the package wizard. I can run through the first couple of steps on the package wizard, but when it asks for a language to cache, it fails to install the necessary files.
I have found the resolution on the MS KB site about copying the files to the HDD, and the renaming the exe file to SETUP.EXE, but whenever I select this file to cache, I get the following message:-
'C:SourceSETUP.EXE' could not be copied to 'C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftAccessADE11Cache1033SETUP.EXE'.
Verify that the source file exists, that you have write permissions on the destination folder. etc
I don't think it is permissions, as it does copy the msi and cab file to that particular folder, it's just the SETUP.EXE file that it doesn't copy over.
Has anyone ever experienced this before when using the Package Wizard?

Hi, can someone please tell me how would it be possible to package my database!!!? I need to do it for my coursework. I thought may be the package and deployment wizard would be a good idea, but it isnt listed in my add-ins manager. Btw I am using VBA (Access and VB together).
Strange problem, i'm using XP Pro and Access from Office 2003 (both real full versions from work) - and in general use, when the mouse hovers over the 'print' icon (at the top left, undernear file, edit, view, insert, near 'save', 'new', etc), then access will hang for about 20 seconds then snap back into action.
Now, i don't even want to print anything! But every now and again i accidentally hover over it and it's bugging the hell out of me. Everything is updated (but i will check again now).
Anyone know how to make this stop? I tried a quick search but didn't get far.
I have developed access application (front/backend) for my client. As client wanted they would be running on 3 comps on LAN. 1 comp would have the DB and the other 2 the frontends. How will I create installation (CD/package) so that it can be distributed in the clients site. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I have Access 2003 and the Developer Extensions which allow me to package solutions and distribute them with the toll-free run-time set. When I run my applications on the development PC with the "/runtime" switch the applications work fine but when they are installed on a PC without Access 2003 they install but refuse to default values into forms when new records are created. Since any "child" records need to contain the key of the relevant "parent" record for the database to have any relational structure at all this makes the applications useless. I've searched Microsoft sites until I'm blue in the face and I've asked my support company but I'm not getting any answers. Anybody got any ideas?
I have just started to use the Access 2003 Package Wizard and I am having big problems, my problem is that any Access App deployed at work is installed under C:MIS, but in there wizdom!!! MS have decided not to allow you to have anything but what they think you should have as the default install location.
I have even gone into the source code and found where the default locations are, but the problem is that you have to add the entry to both a table and an XML file, the table is easy, but trying to find where and what I need to add to the xml, so far has turned out to be impossible.
Can anyone help, or is the best solution going to be to use a third party installer.
the language cache for the package wizard is currently stored at "C:Documents and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftAccessADE11Cache1033". this is, therefore, in my roaming profile, which is a very bad thing since it's 35MB. is there any way to put it somewhere else? many thanks, e.
