I'm trying to build a query with an iif statement to calculate expiration dates within a query. For some reason what i'm trying to do is not working as expected.
Here's the situation. Every employees with an exception of two employees in the company has an expiration 2 years after the class took place. The two exceptions are the certified instructors who's training certification is good for three years.
I've created a query with the employeeid, training subject, and maxoftraining date.
I'm trying to write an if statement to give me the expiration date based on the above information. Here's what I have so far; however its not calculating based on the criteria.
Expiration: IIf([tblemployee]![EmpID]=1 Or 2,DateAdd("yyyy",3,[maxoftrainingdate]),DateAdd("yyyy",2,[maxoftrainingdate]))
At this point in time, all "expiration" dates are showing + 3 years rather than just the Employee ID's 1 and 2 and the rest +2 years.

I am hoping that you will be able to help me with a table that I am working on. I have almost no experience with access, so I am useless when it comes to this.
I have attached a condensed version of the database that I am working on (removed everything except the one table that I am working on) so that you can see and edit what I am working on.
The requirements are simply this.
-If "Status" = 'new inquiry' and has not been update in 6 months, automatically changes to 'inactive' and "probability of order" automatically changes to 0%
-"Initial Inquiry Date" is set to the date the Inquiry was added to the table (but user has ability to change it manually)
-*bonus* If ship quarter has passed todays quarter then change "Status" to 'inactive'.

I have a form with a date of when training was completed. I would like to set it up so it displays the date of expiration which is one year from when the training was complete.

I'm working on a school database project and I am developing a Gym subscription/registration system.
Basically, once a user enters his/her personal info, they are taken to a second form where they can enter the subscription plan type (there are three plans).
Now, this is what I'm stuck on.. When a user enters a subscription start_date, I want the next field 'Exp._Date' to update to a year later, automatically.
So for example, if you enter 09/02/2005 in the start_date field, then the next field would automatically be filled with 09/02/2006.
Is it possible? And more importantly, how? I'm fairly new to DB's so please lay it in laymens ;).

I've built an an update query that updates a Yes/No field "Expired?" to "Yes" if the expiration date has passed i.e. if the current date is newer than the expiration date. I thought this would translate into the current date being greater than the expiration date?
UPDATE Alert
SET Alert.[Expired?] = 'Yes'
WHERE Alert.Current_Date>Alert.Expiration_Date;
When I run this, it identifies the records to be updated, but then stops updating the fields due to "a conversion failure."

Is there a way, in a query or via the use of a module, to calculate the workdays between two dates excluding holidays without needing to maintain a separate table with the holidays listed out?
For example, I would like it to calculate 21 work days for the month of May. However, I don't want to have to go in the first of each year and manually list out all the holidays for the year. Is there a way for the Holidays table to just contain the number of holidays in a given month (i.e. in December we get 3 holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve).
I am trying to limit the results of a SQL query by date. I would like to take the current date from the system clock, move back one day, check to make sure it's not a weekend or holiday, then use the result date to limit the results in my Query. If the current date minus one day happens to land on a weekend, the date picked should be the Friday before the weekend. If the current date minus one day lands on a holiday, it should be the date before the holiday as long as it is not a Saturday or Sunday (on another holiday) .
Here is my SQL query right now.

It limits what it selects by using the current Date minus one day.
I need to skip over Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.
I am trying to using an iif statement to pick up null values, but I don't know what to type in the function. I tried using "is null", but got an invalid message.
What value I should type in to get null value in the function below?

After hours of playing around i finally have my IIF statement working the proplem is now is that when the Value is null it gives a blank value on my Report. How do i get it to show the value of 0 when it is Null. can i use an isNull withen my IIf statement maybe nested what is best practice?

When i press a command button, a parameter query runs which uses the two textboxes as the parameter's criteria. However, to ensure that both textboxes have a data entry, i have tried entering in some VBA that prompts the user to enter in a date if its left null...then set focus to that textbox: Here it is...

Im trying to concatenate a bunch of fields (50 arghh) which each are either blank or just contain one letter. This was someone elses setup for an attendance register which I think is an odd way of doing it. I would have used one field and then to get the mark for a week take a substring at the appropriate position. Anyway im trying to replace an empty string field with a letter to represent the register hasn't been marked using sql statement:

[1] being the first register week then I would have concatenated with [2] etc...
This however causes an error each time on the attendance field so im guessing replace doesn't work on empty strings. Is there a way round this/alternative.

I have a form with two list boxes on it: listAllBANANA and listActiveBANANA
The listboxes are populated from tblBANANA. Active is defined by the tblBANANA field "ResponseDate" being Null.
Also on the form is a CloseBANANA command button. When pressed with no selection, it opens frmCloseBANANA to the first record. If a BANANA is selected in listActiveBANANA, the form opens to the selected record.
Now comes the tricky part: if a BANANA is selected in listAllBANANA, I first need to verify they have an Active BANANA selected, before opening the form. I've poked and tested and searched and cut and pasted my little fingers off with no joy. What I've deduced is that I'm either messing up the syntax of the DLookup or I'm incorrectly referencing the selected record. There's also the third option that I'm going about this in entirely the wrong way.
All other code below works. If I delete or comment out the line in red, I have no issues other than I may open up a blank form because I'm trying to close a BANANA that is already closed.

I have a report based on a query with 3 fields (Tested, RMA, OpenRMA). The query searches all the tables in my database and gives me a count of the equipment tested, RMA reported and open rma.
The report has two fields (Equipment, NumberTested) with a total below and also a total of the RMAs and OpenRMAs. I'm trying to hide RMAs and OpenRMAs from appearing in the body and only showing below the total. All three totals are showing correctly, but I am still seeing RMA and Open RMA with a null in the count in the body.
So in the report's Equipment.control I wanted to put
Iif([NumberTested] is null, null, [Equipment])
Meaning if the numbertested field is null the equipment field will be blank, if it is not just leave what is in the equipment field there, but it returns a #Error in the printout. It seems to handle the two null records correctly. Trying Equipment.Value also returned the same error.
My issue is that I am trying to update a date field. When I do the date field may have a date or may be a null. When I try to pass in a NULL date with no quotes, I get a syntax error. When I have single quotes in the statement and a null value is passed in, I get an invalid use of date.

I have a form in my Access database that has 3 input boxes by which a user can locate a record by. The problem I am running into is that I can not get a nested IF statement to work properly to first check which of the search boxes are filled in and second search by whichever is filled in. I have come up with the following code that seems to be only searching by the first input box. If the first input box is blank it does not move to the second or third numbers so I imagine there may be something wrong with the order of my IF statement or the syntax is off.

I have a query where I display the [OPEN DATE] and [CLOSE DATE] of my cases. However, when I run this query sometimes the cases are not closed yet, therefore there are null values. However, I also have a field to calculate the datediff between these two dates. I need the [CLOSE DATE] field to display today's date when it is a null value so that I can still get a count of the days using datediff when I run the query.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBax can you take a look at the attached zip which is a VERY small sample database with the VB Code to make it expire in 30 days. It is pretty cool, you can not even change the system date on your computer because this will pick it up and give you an error message and not let you open the db. I can not get this thing to work with my database and I know I must just be missing something. It is real simple, 1 table, 1 Code and 1 autoexec macro.
I am a novice using VB and though I understand this code somewhat I am still missing something. I know you are good at this stuff and thought maybe you could help.

I had some work done on my Database a few weeks ago and it works great.
I just got an email from the guy who did the work and he wants me to pay him more money....he said he forgot to bill me for 6 hours.
I told him I didn't think that was fair and wasn't really willing to pay for more hours....he then said he never sent the "non-expiry" versions of the databases.....he also said I have 15 days left until they expire.
Considering I done additional work on them I was wondering if this is possible?

My database keeps track of training for employees, some of which expires after a period of time, which is in the tables. I need to create a query that displays only the employees and the training that expires during the next 30 days. I have a query that displays the expiration date (this field uses DateAdd and adds the expiration term to the date the employee completed the training) I am trying to add a criteria to this field. I found <=Date()+30 in my searches but that displays all of the records from 12/14 and back. I have tried all kinds of versions of this (obviously, not the correct one) and either get all records or none. (Yes there are records in the database that fall within the the period I am trying to display - that is something that I have been known to forget)
Is it because I am using criteria in a field that is based on DateAdd or what would be the correct criteria for this?
I have a main form with many subforms. Each subform has couple of ComboBoxes or/and TextBoxes. I want to make sure that end users dont miss completing any of required values. For example, in the subform (Clients), an end user is supposed to put either "Male" or "Female" in the (Gender) ComboBox. In another subform (Job Info), the end user will put info of the job like Wage, Employer, Date of Job Start... ete.
What I want is to get VB IF statement which tests if the textboxes "Wage", "Employer", and "Date of Job Start" in the subform (Job Info) are not null, then the CobmoBox "Gender" in the subform (Clients) should not be null too, with a warning message to complete the missing value.
I am trying to create a database to analyze expiration dates of multiple products.
Let me lay out what I am trying to accomplish.
I have 5 ambulances, each ambulance has the same quantity of medications on it. There are three separate locations medications are stored on each truck. Each month I need to be able to update expiration dates, query what medications will expire by a set date and where exactly they are located.
SO here is the structure as I see it.
Ambulance 1 contains, a drug drawer with approximately 30 different medications, a trauma bag with about 10 different medications, and a blood glucose kit with 2 different medications. Now some of medications are repeated in the different locations, but have different quantities. The medications will never all have the same expiration date, and medication 1 might have 8 vials, where medication 2 may have 4 vials. I would like my form to be dynamic based on the inventory level of the medications. That way if we decide to keep 10 vials instead of 8 the form will then require the 2 extra data points.
The tables I have created so far...
table 1 lists all the ambulances
table 2 lists medications in the drug drawer and the inventory level
table 3 lists medications in the trauma bag and the inventory level
table 4 lists medications in the blood glucose kit and the inventory level
I need to create a table to store my expiration dates for each of the locations in each of the ambulances.
I need to create a form to simplify the entry of the data into those tables and I want the form and table to be dynamic to the inventory level.
