If Some Text Boxes Empty Dont Allow Other Fields Access

Jul 27, 2005

Hello Friends,

Thank you for all the help i have gotten over the past couple days, as you can tell i am new and seek somebodys experience and wisdom to solve my issue.

I have a simple Form, That allows the users to enter contact information.

At the very top I have "Name" and "Age" and below it i have other fields such as Address, city, state, etc...

How can I make it so the user does not have access to the other information until they type in BOTH fields "Name" and "age" first.

Can somebody please show me how the Code might look like.

Thank you for your time.

Need To Calculate Costs Only If Not Empty,dont Know How

Aug 14, 2007

I have a variable cost that is a calculated field (as in the colum only exists in a query not as a colum in a table) that is variable hours * variable rate....the problem is ppl at my company sometimes dont know how the costs are goign to be broken down so they only put a Variable Cost....

and since they dont know the rate and hours my calculated field returns nothing...

how can i accomplish this, VBA might seem the way to go but i don't know how to use it for Access.....

so basically i need to calcualte the variable cost only if they enter something in var hours and var rate...other wise the var cost should just be what the users type ( so i i guess i have to make Var Costs a column in the table to give users the option of entering it)

Converting Text Field To Number Without #Error In Empty Fields

Apr 6, 2006

I have a text field I need to convert to numbers. There are both empty and non empty fields. I then need to show the numbers like this "1.234" and a "*" in the empty fields.

I have tried to convert the fields with Cint, but I get an #Error in the empty fields.

Is there any way to solve this??

Thanks in advance..

Queries :: Design A Query To Show Only Empty Field As TEXT Fields In Table

Mar 2, 2014

I am just querying a single table, no relationship involved with another table. As you can see form the attached jpeg, the ZIP field in some cases is empty. I would run a search using Is NULL but the field is NOT numerical. It's a long story but I had to make this field a TEXT field. Basically, what statement do I have to insert in the criteria field to just pull up the EMPTY ZIP fields?

Filtering With 2 Combo Boxes And Then Populating Text/memo Fields

Dec 14, 2004

I have two questions.
I have a form with 2 combo boxes. The first pulls from a simple list. Once you make a choice, the second combo box is then filtered by the first. This works correct, except that once a choice is made in the first, the filter is locked. If you change the first combo box's value a second time it does not effect the second box. The query that I am using for the second combo box has two columns that pull the first 50 characters of a pair of memo fields. Quote: SELECT MSSS.SS_ID, Left([Application_Name],50) AS Expr1, Left([Description],50) AS Expr2, MSSS.Site_Code
FROM MSSS
WHERE (((MSSS.Site_Code)=[Forms]![Edit or Delete Requests]![Combo6])); These fields are then used to populate 2 text fields using an event procedure. Quote: Private Sub Combo10_AfterUpdate()
' Display Partial Application Name and Description based on choice
Me!txtApplication_Name = Me!Combo10.Column(1)
Me!txtDescription = Me!Combo10.Column(2)
End Sub This is working fine, but it starts the next problem.

I need to change the form to include the entire memo field into a text box. I was using the columns of the second combo box to fill them in. Since the combo box is limited to only 50 characters, i could only grab part of it. I am guessing there is a much better way to accomplish what I need, but I am too inexperienced with forms and vb to come up with it. Below are the fields I need from table MSSS
Business_Name
Application_Name
Description
Acronym
Level_1_Support
Level_2_Support
Escalation_process
Troubleshooting
Priority
Links
Modified
Disabled

Thanks in advance to any help!

Dont Think Access Can Help, Well Not Sure

Dec 10, 2005

Hi all,

I created a database for my company and it works very well but, I need it or something to track the way I pay comisions. Its a type of multi-level company and pay rates vary. Also, once someone hits the top level they now join in profit sharing. The profit sharing part is the tough part becase say person A is at the top he is a team leader and he gets money not only from his sales, but also from the people in his group below him. It must also be able to pay the correct person if someone quits, say Person D, the system knows that it all off person D's people under him go up to person C now. I hope this isnt to confussing, but im starting to confuss myself as im trying to set this up.

Is access able to keep track of an organization like this or should I try to use something else?

Thanks.

Scott

Characaters Replaced By Vertical Lines/empty Boxes

Sep 12, 2006

I have a very simple database with one big table and a series of forms to walk researchers through data extraction from scholarly articles. Each researcher has a copy of the database and I export their info and merge it in a master file. One of my new researchers has just started and come across a problem I've never seen before. On her third record, access suddenly started replacing characters typed in (or selected from drop-down boxes) to the form fields with bold vertical lines, like this: ||||||On the table, they look like empty boxes instead of vertical lines. What she says happened was:-She was entering data into one of the forms (say form 4 of 7 - there are macros to open the new form when you finish the one you've been doing, but they only all close at the end of all 7 forms)-She saved-She looked at a PDF document on the same computer-She switched back to the database and several (but not all) of the characters on the form were replaced with the vertical lines. When she looked further, some fields on other forms (but not all the other forms) also had these vertical lines. Finally, one field had replaced the characters she'd typed not with vertical lines, but with some characters from another field. Is her copy of the db just corrupted? Is this some known bug? Can we avoid this? Thanks for any insight or referral.

Access 97 Dont Works

Aug 16, 2005

I have installed on my PC, WindowsXP sp.1, MSaccess versions 97 and XP.
After I have tested some databases, MSaccess 97 don't works successfully more, but XP version works good. I can't modify files mdb. Access works like in run-time mode: bars and commands reduced, standard icon of access absent, database window absent, ecc.
If macro autoexec or a form that play at the start of mdb are present, mdb works but it is impossibile to modify it. Otherwise mdb dont works, I can see access window with only menu files and window.

I have removed access and after yet installed it, but it don't work successfully.

maybe other application leaved files (or modification in file registry) that install procedure of access97 cant rewrite? And that dispose access 97 to work in run-time mode (or like)?

I am hopeless. Can You help me? Can you give me a list of files to remove, or list of modification to do in registry?

Control Array In Access / Text Boxes As Objects

Apr 13, 2005

Hi,

Is it possible to simulate a control array in MS Access?

I’m using a restricted version of Access 2000. I can use all normal features but some Active X controls are not licensed and it will not be possible to licence them in time I have available for my project.

I have a form which has 14 combo boxes and 24 text boxes to allow user to choose shift type and enter start and end times of shift. I know in VB 6 I have used control arrays which has vastly simplified the whole code.

I have experimented with treating the text boxes as objects and trying to create a string with the first part of the name and using numbers to differentiate between the textboxes but Access does not seem to like this.

The code I have tried is below:

Dim obTextBox As TextBox
Dim str As String

str = "Forms!frm_Shift_Entry_3!txtFST2"

‘Set obTextBox = Forms!frm_Shift_Entry_3!txtFST
'Set obTextBox = str

obTextBox.Name = "txtFST2"
obTextBox.Value = Format("12:35", "Short Time")
'b = 7
'obTextBox.Name = "txtFST" & b
'obTextBox.Value = Format("17:12", "Short Time")

commented out sections are other options I have tried.

Can anyone point out any mistakes I’m making or advise whether this is possible in Access?

Thanks

Frozbie

General :: Auto Populated Text Boxes To Display Rows From Combo Boxes

Jan 25, 2015

I have strange issue when creating auto populated text boxes which displays rows from combo boxes.

In one database auto populates works with simple text box Control Source edit "=[ComboName].[Column](NumberOfColumn)".

Somehow same method doesn't wotk in different database: here one time I have to insert VBA code at On change Event:

Me.TextBoxName = Me.ComboName.Column(NumberOfColumn)

And other time it wont work with On change but only with After Update Event (code is same).

Another thing this morning happens was that when I tried to add new record trough form where combo box and tex boxes are located, MS Office suddenly stopped working after selecting combo box selection (with message Microsoft Office has Stopped Working). It is 2013 version.

I got it work after deleting and re-inserting VBA code to autopopulate text box at After Update Event.

Queries :: Multiple Combo Boxes And Text Boxes On A Search Form

Mar 24, 2014

I'm trying to build an database for aircraft operators. I've got the basic tables structure and relationships but I'm stuck on building an search form to filter records by user input.I've got following controls on my form (unbound):

1. AircraftType (combo box) from tblAircrafts
2. CompanyName (combo box) from tblListOfAircraftsOperators
3. TeailNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators
4. AirportNameSearch (combo box) from tblAirports
5. PassengersNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators
6. ManufactureYear (text box) from tblAircraftOperators
7. SourceSearch (combo box) from tblInfoSource
8. CountrySearch (combo box) from tblCountry
9. CategorySearch (combo box) from tblAircraftCategory
10. EamilToOperator (text box) from tblAircraftOperators
11. InteriorPhoto (Bound object frame) from tblAircraftOperators
12. ExteriorPhot (bound object frame) from AircraftOperators

I need to enable users to search for aircrafts based on those criteria. As I mentioned I'm new to Access and I don't have any advanced coding skills. I have a query build to perform the search and this is the code I've managed to write so far:

SELECT AircraftOperators.RegistrationNumber, AircraftOperators.PassengersNumber, AircraftOperators.ManufactureYear, AircraftOperators.EmailToOperator, AircraftOperators.ExteriorPhoto, AircraftOperators.InteriorPhoto, tblListOfAircraftOperators.OpratorName, tblAircrafts.AircraftType
FROM tblAircrafts INNER JOIN (tblAirports INNER JOIN (AircraftOperators INNER JOIN tblListOfAircraftOperators ON AircraftOperators.CompanyName =

Forms :: Changing Multiple Text Boxes To Combo Boxes?

Mar 14, 2014

there is a way to convert multiple text boxes to combo boxes all at once, rather than right clicking on them one at a time, and selecting Change to.

I have a form with about 50 fields and most of them need to be converted to combo boxes. I'd always done it manually one at a time up to this point, but I'm trying to build up my learning and look for smarter ways to do things.

Forms +List Boxes +Text Boxes With Formulas

It works giving me the correct value but only becomes visible after I click inside List BoxA. How can I make it visible as soon as the form is opened? I tried refreshing the form data, didn't work and I tried a requery macro which didn't work either.

Empty Fields

Jul 7, 2006

I am trying to make a query with two tables. Each row consist of a student ID, their name and all their personal information. Both tables are exactly the same. But one table is a link table. That link table gets update every so often from an outside program and the other table is not linked. I want to be able to run a query that updates certain fields called "address changes". I have figured out how to find the updates, but I am having a problem with a field that is blank. If I have a field in the non-linked table that is empty but there is information in the linked table, it does not see it. Is there a way to get around this empty field problem?

Querry Of Empty Fields

Oct 17, 2006

I have a Access DB which contains 2 categories either the value "2" or the field is blank. I'm using ASP btw.

Querrying the data with the category of "2" works fine. however when I try the following code I get an empty record set.

Code:"SELECT * FROM programs WHERE category <> 2"

I've also tried searching for "null" to get all rows with an empty category field.

Code:"SELECT * FROM programs WHERE category = NULL"

Short of changing all the "null" fields to a number which I can search for ( such as "empty") I am stump.

Any help is appreciated
