Hi, I need some help with the following problem. Thanks in advance!
I have imported an Excel spreadsheet into Access database. I will need to constantly add new entries to the tables. I need to connect all my tables together, the main table is called "Data". From looking at Access examples, I believer there should be many other table IDs inside this table (so that they all get a relationship). I imported 5 tables, and each one is dependent of each other. I do not know how to connect the tables together because I'm importing all the data, instead of creating new tables and putting the table IDs into one main table to start off with. I know if I start off without needing to import any data, this will not be difficult to do.
The main "Data" has about 30 fields, and the user will only need to type in 15 fields and the rest of the fields can be looked up from the other four tables. So I'm not sure how I can make the connection between all the tables, plus when I need to add new entries to one of the tables, how do I connect the tables so that all of them will be connected?
I've tried using queries and having queries within queries and this takes forever to load. If there is a way that I can limit the use of queries or just use tables to do the job that would be great.
Thanks again!
In the attached DB I have a form that has a combo box which enables you to select an employee and all the employee info is then pulled based on the selection. I want to make changes to the info in the form and have the changes update the correct employee on the table. Currently the from will not let me make changes to the info and the table seems to add new lines rather than updating the corresponding line.
Hello, i want to make a button on my form to input .csv files. What is the best way to do this? I simply want to click the button and be asked for the csv location, i want the csv to be imported and be formatted. Whats the best way to do this?
I am attempting to set up a saved import procedure in an Access database that will be run programmatically using docmd.RunSavedImportExport. The source document is an Excel file.My goal is to trap any import errors caused by inconsistencies in the source data. I'd also like to provide the user with some small amount of feedback on what is causing these errors.
My initial thought was to make use of the "File_ImportErrors" table that is generated following an unsuccessful import. *Not once* has this import procedure consistently generated an error table - sometimes the table is created, sometimes it isn't.
I have tried changing the file format of the import file to comma- and tab-delimited files, respectively. Both of these formats do consistently generate an error table, however none of the error values in the table are accurate - it reports a slew of type conversion errors for fields that are completely consistent and unproblematic, whilst completely overlooking conspicuous errors from text strings in date fields.
I have tried the same import, both procedurally and manually, using all available Excel and text-delimited formats, with the same respective results.I notice that nearly every thread on AWF pertaining to error tables discusses how to delete them, rather than make effective use of them. I suspect this is perhaps why?
I receive monthly project tracking reports and I'm looking to compare a few things between these monthly updates. I should add I'm new to Access and have been using Excel and dual monitors to manually compare data sets!!! My life might be getting a LOT easier.
Here's what I'm tracking:
I get monthly excel reports that have unique values from a "Project ID"each "Project ID" stays the same every month, but the project status changes from "Installed", "Commitment", "Pre-Commitment", etcSometimes new projects are addedSometimes old projects disappear from the reportA few other columns have numerical data that changes every month as well "Project Cost", "$ Incentive", etc.
Here's what I'm trying to automate:
Find out what Project IDs are newFind out if old Project IDs are missing from the new reportSomehow "flag" or identify projects that have status changesSomehow "flag" or identify which numerical values increased or decreased i.e. "Project Cost", "$ Incentive", etc
Do I create two tables? Do I append the new monthly report to the old one when I import my data, then somehow work with the new information?
I have a number in a column that can be up to 10 characters long. where it is not the full 10 characters i want to be able to insert zeros at the front. IE 12345678 to 0012345678
I would like to be able to do this in an append query. Is there a function that allows me to do this?
Hi I have a field in a table which is set to text, diplay control=list box, row source=value list. Row source = "level1", "Level2" etc up to "level9".
Now the form for new records matches this except the values allowed are limited to the list, ie they can only enter exactly one of the list above or it throws user an error.
My question is how can I make it easier for the user to input data, ie instead of having to type all the word 'level1' can i get it to accept also the number 1 to 9 and then auto change the value to the correct field ie if user enters 1 it auto changes it to level 1. But i still want it to limit what the user can put in so to get 'level1' entered they can enter '1' or 'level1' (or select from drop down list) but not accept anything else?
My question is how can I make data in a form visible or invisible just by a button. In other words, if I have a group of buttons, based on the button selected I would want certain data to appear.
I know that this is possible, I have seen it done but just cannot find out how to do it or what this is called to look it up in Helps.
I have imported 3 different excel worksheets into Access. I then created a query in which I made some relationships and select the fields that I need to make a new table. The problem is, when I run the table the final product is missing about 20,000 rows of data. I have used this protocol successfully for other other files, but for some reason, with this dataset Access is pasting 10,000 rows into the new table, where the original file has 39,000.
I am creating a registration DB for a school. My tables are all set up and working, but what I cannot figure out how to do is to create a report such that upon opening it, a little dialogue box pops up and asks me "Term" and "Class" and then I type those things in and viola I get a class list.
I have an address field containing "City", Street Name, and street Address. How do I link these fields together on a form so that when I enter data into the "City" field the rest of the fields making up the address fills in?
I have a database that I import data from an excel spreadsheet into multiple times daily. The table that this data is imported into has several key fields that if the data already exisits in the table, and I attempt to import data that is the same except for one or more of the key fields is different. At this time the database it creates a different record. I am trying to get the database to overwrite the data in the database.
I was assigned by my manager to design an Access database system that is able to import all data from excel file monthly and creating charts & tables to analysis how each sales people and industry perform.
We originally have a big excel master sheet that has more than 10 sheets. I tried to import the current excel into access, but then i realized that this is not gonna work. because for next month, there will be new data and I can't do the whole import process over and over. Plus, after this system is designed, the users will be someone who has no knowledge in access, so i need to create a user-friendly system for them to use.
My questions is:since the data is always cumulative number, if I imported current excel file into access, when the next month comes, how to update the new data into excel. p.s. EXP. Mike's sale volume is different each month, and with the access system, for that column, it will be a cumulative number, like the total from the month of November to this month. how do i achieve this kind of update/import goal?I tried to link the excel to access, but by doing that, I will not be able to set relationship or change the attributes of any data type in access.
I have a subform with continuous records. One of the fields in the recordset of the subform is a field named "Remarks". This field does not need to be visible on the continuous subform as it is rare that this field will have any entries.
I plan to apply conditional formatting on another field (IDcardNo) in the record line of the continuous subform so that when field "Remarks" contains any data it will show as a different format on the field IDcardNo.
I would like to make a small form appear when one points to the IDcardNo field with the different format, so that the data in the field "Remarks" pops up when one points to the field IDcardNo with altered format, showing that there is data in the field "Remarks".
Hi, i am a new comer. i have a table for students' comment for the first semester. however, in the 2nd semester i want to replace them with import data from excel to this table, but on the same student there are 2 rows of records (1 is 1st semester and 1 is 2nd semester).
how can i replace the new data to the old data? or how can i delete all the old data in the exsiting table so that i can import a new excel file?
I am working on a database used in recording device characteristics/test information. The main table of information has dozens of columns for test/part detailed information. When inputing the data for each specific test, many of the info. details are repeated when testing say 20 devices of the same part all at once. Rather than retype every piece of detailed information in every field, everytime, is there an easier way? Does anyone know of a way to make specific fields copy/paste the previous record's information in the fields automatically when a new record is created? Please, if anyone could help or has ANY ideas, let me know...
I'm trying to import some data from an excel sheet to a table in my database. The import wizard won't allow me to import the data into an existing table, only into a new one which is a nuisance. The data formats are the same. Any idea's what might me wrong Please.
I'm importing data from a spreadsheet to a new table in access. After the import, there are 10 empty records added at the end of the table. I think this has happened before but I don't remember why. Any ideas? Thanks!
I want to import data into a table from a csv file. The table is failry lengthy but to try this out I have the following:
tblTest - the table I want the data to end up in tblTestcsv - the intermediate table I empty then put the csv data into test.csv - the csv file (obviously)
I have used somde code which gets the data into the tblTestcsv OK but then doesn't move it into the tblTest - I get an error each time.
so i need to keep 2 DBs with the same forms (But different data) for the purpose of single/double data entry. i have to constantly import forms from DB1 to DB2 because of the form changes, how do i keep the existing data and import it?
when i try to use the import wizard, it always imports the tables as duplicates. so here is the scenario if it helps to explain better:
1: import FORMS/TABLE structure only from DB1 to DB2 2: DB2 is EMPTY, no DATA, just forms/table copied from DB1 3: enter some data into DB2 4: DB1 forms is updated, so I have to re-import the forms to DB2 5: new DB2 is again EMPTY. how do I re-import JUST the DATA portion from previous DB2 version into new DB2?
hope this makes sense. please provide a step-by-step if possible. like what fields to check and how to use the import wizard. thanks very much!
Hi Im having a real problem. Im trying to import a query into Excel so a fancy graph can be made. In Excel when I go to Data-> Import External Data then connect to my Database. A list of queries and tables appear however the query I want is not in the list but it definately exists in Access why is this?? Really Frustrating
I created a database to assist in analyzing the contents of an Excel spreadsheet (provided by a third-party contract). The format of the data in the spreadsheet is denormalized to look something like the following:
It's important to note that the ChildIDs are NOT unique.
This was not a problem initially because I was able to import the entire worksheet into a single table and then run queries to populate the Parent and Child tables.
HOWEVER, they are now introducing "versioning" in a way that is causing a problem for me. When a new version is being created, they repeat the Parent and ALL of the Child rows, but only put the versioning information on the FIRST Child in the group. (They refuse to repeat the versioning information on all of the rows). So the data now looks like the following:
I MUST relate all of the Child rows for a particular version to the correct version of the Parent, but have not been able to come up with any idea of how to do so.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to approach this problem?
I need some advice on what is the best way to import data. I have a access 2003 database that tracks converter boxes that my company sends out for repair. Currently they have a excel file that is imported into the tables which establishes the converters that are out being fixed. When they come back from service they enter the date manually from the packing slip by searching for the converter in the forms search. We now are able to get the received converters on a excel spreadsheet. Is there a way to import the date from the excel file to the access table. Any advice would be great.
