Modules & VBA :: Copy Excel File Or A Table In Access To Specific Location On FTP Server
Jul 11, 2013I need some simple code that will copy an Excel file or a table in Access to a specific location on an FTP server. I would think this would be a very simple task, but I have yet to find any sample code that is *simple*. I have seen lots of code that requires downloading this dll or that mda, but the examples don't work. There must be something built into MS Access 2010 that will allow a file to be uploaded to an FTP site.
All the variables are known:
The FTP location (it never changes)
The FTP Username and Password (they never change)
The destination folder on the FTP site (it never changes)
The File type (it never changes)
The File name (available from the form in Access from which this will be executed)
I can either produce an output file, then copy it to the FTP site, or I can export the table directly to the FTP site with the file name for that day.
This seems to be a very simple task with no simple solution. Currently I am using an FTP app to get the file to the FTP site, but I would like to automate this. The process that creates the output file is already automated, so I would just like to add this to the existing code as its own module.
I'm looking for a simple command on the idea of:
DoCmd.FTPFile, acExel, TableName, FTPFilePath, FTPFileName, Username, Password, acUpload
just made all that above up and none of it is a real function/command in VBA, but is just the kind of thing I'm looking for.
I would think that since I can download and XML file from an FTP site that it should be child's play to upload a simple file to an FTP site, but I can't figure it out.

i have used phpmyadmin and certain code snippets but have failed miserably..
basically my excel file has lots of data, and within each cell, each bit of data is in single quotes...
eg.
'jonathan' '23' 'hardman' 'cheese'
there are no headings in the excel file (as in column or row titles) the data is just raw.
once i have made the table (with the appropriate fields and datatypes for the csv file) how can i import that data into a table using ms access???
Error Importing Excel File
Jul 6, 2005So I have had Access for all of one day now. I am trying to import an excel file into access as a table. I successfully imported the first file but the second file gives me an error that says "An error occurred trying to import file ____. The file was not imported." What are the possible reasons this error has occurred? Both excel files I am importing are in the same format, so I am confused as to why one worked but the other did not. Thanks for any help.

My question is: how do I set up the table to minimize redundant data. I have several fields that match the column headings in Excel, so the data can be imported, but fields like user name, pick slot, batch # all get redundant every time I import. My file is getting unnecessarily large. I know splitting the one table into many is the right thing to do, but don't have a clue how to import the data than. any help

For example,
I have an excel file that includes files that are ready to ship out. My access database already has those file names, but does not have the shipping box number. Is there any way to import the excel file into my database, have it find those specific file names and update the shipping box number field? The excel file won't be adding any new records, just appending existing records.

This would mean that I need to import the excel file and create a table to handle this.Is there by any chance that I don't need to create a table and I can process the excel file? Aug 5, 2015Basically I want to import an excel file that doesn't have any column headings and the data starts on row 4. I already have a table with all of the column headings set in Access.
My research led me to create an import specification and then edit that in the 'mSysIMEXSpecs' Table to Start on Row 4 and then use that spec in VBA to transfer the file to my table. That all seems good, but it seems like an Import Spec only gets saved to the 'mSysIMEXSpecs' Table if you are importing a text file. Nothing gets saved there for Excel.

Jun 25, 2006Hi, I am importing a custom field (containing six digit integers, e.g. 000099, 012000, 102300, ..) from Excel. This custom field in Excel is formatted 000000.
The corresponding field in Access is a text box with input mask !000000. (the Format property for this text box is blank). However, on importing, 000099 enters as 99, 012000 as 12000 etc.
What have I done wrong! Any help very much appreciated.

Sep 13, 2007I have a stock control database which i have nearly completed. This has Manufacturer, which is linked to products, which is linked to Sub Product(which also has field partCode). i.e. Manufacturer1 can have 3 products, and each of these products could have 5 subsystems and partcodes. Each partcode is unique to that subsystem/product/manufacturer.
I then have a pricing spreadsheet in excel, which has many tabs. A new column has been added for each item for Manufacturer,Product,Subsystem and Partcode.
I need to import these manufacturers,products,subsystems and partcodes, but into the tables with the correct relationships, i.e. product1 and product2 are products of manufacturer1 and so cannot come under manufacturer2, and so on.

Aug 7, 2015I have some shapes to be automated in powerpoint (Tables, Pictures and Charts). Each and every shape has to be created on basis of some reports (all excel files with a Dyno-Static Filenames: "Some Bond TE 1-29-2015.xlsx", "Scenario Analysis GSB 28th Feb 2015.xlsx"). Dyno-Static Filename: Filename having some part static and some part variable in it.
So I created a table with a list of file names (report names) with wild cards on it. Like "Some Bond TE*.xlsx", "Scenario Analysis GSB*.xlsx". I am opening these files using the following code from Access:

There is no problem in Access Part. Now I come to my current problem. I am planning to have an attachment field (excel file) to store a table layout model identical to the powerpoint table (shape) to be automated.

I'm trying to import data from an Access query into a blank spreadsheet (Data-Import External Data etc), but it's only giving me a list of the tables in the database and not listing any of the queries. I've never had any problem with this before - I've been able to import queries fine - so I hope someone knows what's going on.

I am trying to import an excel sheet into access.
I have searched the threads, and found similar problems, but none of the answers are helping.
The problem:
I use a macro to transfer the spreadsheet (Transferspeadsheet)
I have a column in excel that contains mostly numeric entries, but sometimes it will have alphanumeric entries.
Access will see the numeric entries and assume this is a numeric field- and then null my alphanumeric entries, and I will get importerror tables after the fact.
Many times the first 10 rows are completely numeric, but the 20th row is alpha numeric. If the alphanumeric row is closer to the top- no errors.
I have 60 spreadsheets to load every morning. Switching to access for all users would be a godsend, but also a fantasy in my environment. I have to find a work around for this. The users will always be using excel to enter this data.
I have tried:
1) Changing excel columns format to text.
Result: Access doesn't care. Sees the field as numeric- import errors on alphanumeric entries
2.) Linking to table
Result: if the first rows are numeric, when I scroll down to the alphanumeric entry it states "error" when I view the linked table in Access. (Access will not allow me to change the field properties of the linked table)
3.) Making a table in access with the "correct" feilds and exporting to excel. Having the users use that version.
Same result- import errors.
There is one thing I have not tried, and I am ready to try anything:
Somehow exporting excel to text and then importing the text.
HOWEVER: I read this as a solution someone has tried in this forum- but he had problems with date entries. (They didn't convert very well, I am assuming).
I have date entries in my spreadsheets, so I don't want to go there. Besides, I don't know how to automate the export of 60 spreadsheets to text.
I asked someone else, he suggested an "import map".
Did help search, Internet word search- nada.
Is there some sort of import template that can be used to force access to understand that I want a particular field as a text field?

If this is at all possible through excel, I would prefer to export the table from excel into access. Otherwise if that's not possible, a macro to import from excel will do.

When I do: File --> Get External Data --> Import; I'm able to import the file.
The problem is that not all the data is entered in the fields. The colums containing the text are excluded.
While importing, I did choose the option "Structure and Data", so it should work.
Any suggestions on to why it is doing that?

Dbf File Not Importing To Access 2003
Nov 3, 2005I have a dbf file that I need to somehow get the table data out of, and into access, excel, or some other usable format. I searches the MS Knowledge Base and read several articles on updating the Jet 4.0 drivers (up to date) and updating Foxpro ODBC drivers, etc. I also searched these forums, and I have yet to find any solution that works.
I think this dbf file might be Foxpro, but I'm not sure. I don't know anything about Foxpro. I was getting an error message "unexpected error from external database driver (8961)", until I read an MS article stating that I should change the name of the Borland folder to BorlandOld and try re-importing. Now Access 2003 just says: "external table not in the specified format".
