Can you import from a .txt file on Notepad into an Access table or will it have to go via an excel spreadsheet to begin with?

Tables :: Access External Data Results In TMP Files

Oct 7, 2013

Running Office 365 (Access 2013). Recent problem occurrence. When I do an 'External Data' command, either from another Access database or an Excel file, the import completes, but I don't see the new table immediately in the navigator section. If I import from another Access database, the new imported tables appear as '~TMPCLP....' tables. If it's from an Excel workbook, the new table doesn't appear at all. It's only after I exit the database and reopen it do I see the new tables correctly named.

Hyperlinking To External Files From Access

Oct 29, 2006

hey all,
I would very much appreciate any help or ideas on how to do this as I am stumped.
I need to develop an access database to track documents but also link to them.
I’ll explain what it needs to do;

Every day there is a numbered (and titled) Word format document that is sent.
Most, but not all of the time an accompanying excel file is also sent. The excel file is used for updates to the word document of the same name.
Lets say the word document is titled DW101.1.doc and the Excel file is called DE101.1.xls
The first would signify it is a Word document by D (being short for Document) and W for Word.
The 2nd would be D for document and E for Excel, and then a number which is 101.1.

They are saved in a folder on the hard drive.
Each time these documents are recd then the Access Database is opened and info about those documents is entered. The document name, date, subject, number etc.
There will also be 3-4 fields that are also filled out with terms from the content of the document that could be searched by those 3-4 fields.
So as each document is recd, it’s opened and ‘scanned’ for relevant terms and or content.
That content is what will be filled in the search fields and then the subject will be the ‘main’ searchable item.

All this so far I can do with no problem.
It’s this part that’s making me crazy.
What I would really like to do is when the document(s) come in and are saved in the folder, from access you can open a dialog box, browse to that folder, and click in the file to associate it with the entry you are making for it in the database.
That way when a search is done with terms or words or subjects that match that document it will bring up the results of the search as a hyperlink that will open that document.

The people that will be using this are not very computer literate to say the least.
I could create a link to the document but I would have to be in design mode and it won’t show up as a record in a table.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated……………..

Trouble Importing External Data - Access Limit?

Oct 23, 2006

I'm trying to import about 18 excel spreadsheets into one database in Access. I've been using "get external data" to import the spreadsheets as tables, and the first 8 of them worked fine, but now I cannot import any more excel files. The only error message I'm getting is "An error occurred trying to import file 'C:....xls' The file was not imported." And this error pops up after I have gone through all of the importing steps. Did I exhaust Access's resources? It's not a format issue, and I've restarted, etc. I'm at a loss.

Modules & VBA :: How To Disable Security Pop Ups When Opening External Files In Access 2010

Aug 1, 2013

[URL]

I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?

I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them?They are just a nescience.

Tables :: Importing / Extracting Data From PDF Files

Nov 25, 2014

I am building a database for a coworker. For one table, he'd like to extract data from different companies' financial reports, specifically a Schedule RC-B (schedule of securities). The format it comes in is PDF, but there are options to download XBRL, SDF and Taxonomy. My computer doesn't recognize any of these other formats. Plus, I'm guessing each company will have a slightly different format, so I don't know if there'd be an efficient way to set up an automatic import. Any way for importing/extracting data from these files?

Importing CSV And XLS Files To Access

Feb 16, 2012

I'm importing .csv and .xls files into access using docmd.transferspreadsheet and it's simple enough except for a couple of issues I'm having:

1. The .csv file has leading ' and if I converti it .txt if has leading " in some of the columns .....what's the best way to get rid of these and is it better before or after the importing process.

2. a .xls file has a few rows of totals at the top so I need the importing to start at row A7 instead of A1...is there a way to control where it starts rather than manipulating the file prior to importing because it's all going to done by clicking a button on a form by user.

And there's a 3. one of the .xls has additional blank rows that it seems to import into the access table....what's th solution for that.

All the files will vary in number of records on a daily basis so I can't specify range like the DoCmd.

Errors Importing External Data

Sep 9, 2005

I have a table that needs to be refreshed with new data monthly. The table has extensive relationship links to other tables. The new data comes to me in a spreadsheet.

I am tying to import the data from the spreadsheet into this existing access table, but errors halt the import. The fields in the spreadsheet are the exact same as in the access table. I am trying to accomplish this task with the Get External Data, Import wizard.

The strange thing is I can import the excel data into a new table without any problems. I then override the old table with the newly created one. The problem with is I have to severe all the relationships before doing so which is a real pain and a cumbersome process

If you can offer any advice, it would really help out

General :: Files Can't Be Uploaded To External Host Server

Apr 1, 2014

We have an Access frontend with a Sql back end on an external server in the cloud.One of the things I need to do is allow people to attach files/documents to a record. I have set this up okay with the document being copied and saved to a new location and the path string being associated with the record. This will only work for people in my office though. I need to enable people in other cities to be able to upload or view these documents. Each office has their own server.

My IT department said they had created a VPN for this. They gave me a web URL which enables me to log in to QNAP. From there I can click to open the 'file station' and use the 'folder window' that appears within the browser to click through to the relevant folder - and there are buttons for uploading and downloading documents.

I could try writing some code that will automate all these steps - maybe. I'd rather not, but I can't see any alternative. It looks like a real pain to go through the HTML elements (and I think there may be errors coming up about certificates)

The files can't be uploaded to the external host server the back-end is on incase any of the documents are confidential. They don't want it saved anywhere other than on their own servers.

Importing Excel To Access Keeping Relationships In Access Tables

Sep 13, 2007

I have a stock control database which i have nearly completed. This has Manufacturer, which is linked to products, which is linked to Sub Product(which also has field partCode). i.e. Manufacturer1 can have 3 products, and each of these products could have 5 subsystems and partcodes. Each partcode is unique to that subsystem/product/manufacturer.

I then have a pricing spreadsheet in excel, which has many tabs. A new column has been added for each item for Manufacturer,Product,Subsystem and Partcode.

I need to import these manufacturers,products,subsystems and partcodes, but into the tables with the correct relationships, i.e. product1 and product2 are products of manufacturer1 and so cannot come under manufacturer2, and so on.

I hope this makes sense, Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Refresh Access Tables From Dbf Files.

Sep 3, 2004

Hi,

I have several dbf files that I imported into Access in order to establish relationships and export as spreadsheets. I have created a macro that does that. However, the dbf files are based on a query that changes monthly. I was wondering if there was any way to automatically update the tables from the dbf files once the queries are run without manually importing the tables again?

Thank you for any assistance.

Help With Importing Files

Feb 24, 2008

Hello,

I have a excel file which is a combination of to files (a .csv and txt) which I need to manipulate using access to get certain output. I created 2 tables for the 2 files in Access and then combined the 2 files by joining them on some common attributes.

Sample records from the excel file:
There are two fields..samaccountname and groupmembership which I need to display in a single line..

Accountname GroupMembership
trs 92 CN=US-HTSU Disable Mass Storage
Devices-S-D,OU=Call Centers,OU=Desktop
Access Groups,OU=US HTSU,OU=US
Groups,OU=US,DC=HNAH,DC=ADROOT,DC=HSBC

Wherever there is group membership, I want
that comma separate and parsed for a user in one line

'CN=US-HTSU Disable Mass Storage Devices-S-D,OU=Call Centers,OU=Desktop
Access Groups,OU=US HTSU,OU=US Groups,OU=US,DC=HNAH,DC=ADROOT,DC=HSBC
'CN=HNAH Generic Accounts-S-G,OU=Department Groups,OU=US HTSU,OU=US
Groups,OU=US,DC=HNAH,DC=ADROOT,DC=HSBC

I just need the following:

Tsr012,"US-HTSU Disable Mass Storage Devices-S-D,HNAH Generic Accounts-S-G"

Is there a command or way to do this in Access or even SQL Server?

Any help would be much appreciated..

Thanks!
Gaurav

Importing CSV Files Into Web-app DB

Mar 17, 2015

I'm pretty new to Access and am trying to create an Asset database for our IT department. I'm trying to import a csv file that has all of our Android tablet information in it. One of the fields on this csv is "Office location" to let us know what office its currently at.I have a table already created for all of our offices called Offices.

All I'm trying to do is import the Android Tablet csv to create a new table called Tablets and have the "Office location" field from the csv link to the Office tables list of offices. I can import the csv file fine and have it create a new table called Tablets. The "Office location" field is just set to short text and isn't actually linked with the list of offices from the Office table.I tried linking them by changing the Office location field to lookup and pointing it to the Office tables field that has all of our offices locations, but receive an error. I'm guessing this isn't how I'd get this to link to the list of offices. I'm trying to have the Office locations field link to the list of locations automatically so that I don't have to create a new field and then make it a lookup field and manually change it for every Tablet that I have in the Tablets table.

Hi!
I'm trying to import csv files into an Access 97 database, but the filename is different each time otherwise I would just use a commandbutton with the transfertext macro.

I've been searching for help to browse to a file and keep coming back to the same few pages but not being a programmer I can't figure out how to use the code.

Can anyone help me with simple instructions on how to do this?

Importing Text Files

Feb 7, 2008

All,
I have a database that I import text files to create tables. I ve been doing this awhile but now I have to pass it on to someone else to do and are trying to find a better way. this is what I've been doing: I import the text file into a new table. Then I copy and paste the data to the corresponding table. I know I can do an append query to do this but its about 12 text files I have to import into 12 different tables and I didn't want to take the time. I then run a query to combine and sum data from two different tables. The problem is that I have to copy and paste because if I import the text files directly into the corresponding table, the query don't run. I've tried change the field data type in the import wizard but it still doesn't work. My table datatype fields are: field1-text field2-number and field3-number. There is not field for number in the wizard but I use double as a field size in the design table so I select this in the wizard. I don't know how to resolve this other than spending time to create an append query or cut and paste. Please help
Thanks

Importing Mdb Files Problem

Sep 30, 2004

Hello All
I have been trying to figure this problem out for a while now and was unable to get anywhere. What I am trying to do is I am trying to do a mass import of mulitple mdb files into just one mdb file. What I have right now is the following:

Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim InputDir, ImportFile As String, tblName As String
Dim InputMsg As String
InputMsg = "Type the pathname of the folder that contains "
InputMsg = InputMsg & "the files you want to import."
InputDir = InputBox(InputMsg)
ImportFile = Dir(InputDir & "*.dbf")
Do While Len(ImportFile) > 0
tblName = Left(ImportFile, (InStr(1, ImportFile, ".") - 1))
DoCmd.TransferDatabase acImport, "dBase III", InputDir, _
acTable, ImportFile, tblName
ImportFile = Dir
Loop
End Sub

What this does is that is when the user clicks on the button it asks the user for the file path name and uploads all the dbf files in that location. This works great for dbf files but when I change the code so that ImportFile = Dir(InputDir & "*.mdb") and DoCmd.TransferDatabase acImport, "Microsoft access", InputDir, _acTable, ImportFile, tblName so as to be able to do it for mdb files I get Run-time error '3051': The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file ams.mdb. It is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data. I tried changin the access on the file and made sure that it was not read only but got the same result.. Can anyone please help me I would appreciate the help. Thanks
