Importing Data From A Spreadsheet To Existing Multiple Tables

May 30, 2006

First off, its been a long time since I have been here (since sometime in 2003 LOL), partly because I didn't have to create a new db in a while. Now, I have been handed a project and come across something new.

OK, here is what I want to do. I would like to be able to dump data from an Excel file into existing Access tables (two to be more specific). Now, I also have relating tables that add data into certain fields. I tried using a query to try to group data ad hopeful able to dump data through the query. I noticed that I couldn't import data through a query. Just for kicks, I tried to pull data through table and noticed that I can only create a new table, not able to update and existing table.

How would I go about performing this task? I have never attempted anything in the past.

Thank you in advance for your considered help,

Steve

Creating A New Record From Existing Information

Mar 28, 2006

Hi there,

I have a form with information on it relating to several linked tables. I would like this information to be duplicated in the tables and a new autonumber assigned.

Is there a way that I can do this by clicking one button and the autonumber will automatically generate a new number keeping the rest of the information in the form and updating the tables with a new record?.

Thanks for you help

Modules & VBA :: Importing New Records Into Existing Database

Jan 21, 2014

I have table1 in my (Access 2010) database that has exising records. I have another table2 that after I run a query, it first deletes the data in table 2, then imports new records into that table. I run the import into table 2 on a semi regular basis but have yet to copy those records into table 1.

With that said, using either a query or VB, how do I copy all the (new) records from table 2 into table 1 without altering any records that already exist in table1?

BTW, Table 1 has a main form with a subform within it

Importing Excel To Access Keeping Relationships In Access Tables

Sep 13, 2007

I have a stock control database which i have nearly completed. This has Manufacturer, which is linked to products, which is linked to Sub Product(which also has field partCode). i.e. Manufacturer1 can have 3 products, and each of these products could have 5 subsystems and partcodes. Each partcode is unique to that subsystem/product/manufacturer.

I then have a pricing spreadsheet in excel, which has many tabs. A new column has been added for each item for Manufacturer,Product,Subsystem and Partcode.

I need to import these manufacturers, products, subsystems and partcodes, but into the tables with the correct relationships, i.e. product1 and product2 are products of manufacturer1 and so cannot come under manufacturer2, and so on.

I hope this makes sense, Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Using Append Query - Update A Table By Replacing All Existing Information

Dec 6, 2013

Can I use the append query to update a table by replacing all existing information with updated information while at the same time adding all data that isn't currently in the table?

Right now every time I run the Append Query it just adds the same information as a new row instead of replacing the existing row with the updated information.

Modules & VBA :: Automate Importing Xml Data Into Existing Table

May 22, 2014

what is the best way to import the data from the XML file into an access database table. The database I am working with has one large main table where all of the main record data is stored. There is a somewhat complex string of queries and reports based off this table that I am concerned about preserving. The problem is that the XML file is not structured in the same way the table is. The headings are named different, aren't in the same order, etc. I cannot use the import method and simply append it to the main table. After much searching around I have found two options:

1) Use the built in XML import method that access provides to create a secondary table. Then find a way to take data from individual fields in the second table and map and insert it into a new record in the main table.I already have the import part of this option working. The only part I can't seem to understand is how to take data from the second table and get it into a new record in the main table under the correct headings

2) Read the data from the XML file all at once and then map and insert it into the main table.I have not attempted this yet. I was having a hard time understanding how to retrieve the data from the XML file in the first place.

So.. which would be better/easiest to automate (most likely via button click on a form)? I only have a small understanding of VBA and even less understanding of anything XML.

Importing Excel Tables Into Access?

I am trying to write some code to import an excel table into access. I want to delete and append a table already in the database. I am having trouble writing the code to do this. If this is at all possible through excel, I would prefer to export the table from excel into access. Otherwise if that's not possible, a macro to import from excel will do.

Importing Of Data From Excel/Access To Two Tables Linked By A Querry

Jun 28, 2006

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am having the problem of importing a database from Excel/Msaccess 2000 to a Msaccess 2000 database from which the data was originally exported. The Database consists of two tables connected in a querry and the two tables has a unique primary key thru which the two tables are linked using a querry. While importing only two tables are listed in the importing wizard and not the querry.

So how to import the data to the two tables connected by a querry using a primary unique key.

help me the procedure.

Tables :: Random Missing Data After Importing From Excel To Access

Mar 8, 2014

I've got an Excel sheet with +700k rows and 20 columns that I wanted to import to Access. All fields are text except the field that I want to use as a primary key, but I planned to import that as a text as well.

When I used the import wizard, I set all fields to import as text except for three that I set to memo. The wizard didn't say there was any error after importing the data, but when I checked the table, I noticed there were *a lot* of records where many fields where blank. Some fields where completely unaffected by this problem throughout the entire table, but in the rest of them, there is data missing in many records, and when there is data missing, it is not always the same fields that are missing. I have been unable to find any pattern that explains why sometimes the records were imported correctly, and why sometimes they were not.

Tables :: Two Identical Database - Importing Tables By Linking To Data Source

Dec 3, 2012

I have 2 identical database in terms of structure but it differs in data.

Basically I would like to import data from subDatabase to mainDatabase and ensuring that there are no duplicate records.

I have used the "link to datasource method" through importing the tables to have the "updating" function.

However, this method also means that the records in mainDatabase are also imported over to subDatabase which I do not want.

Is there a method to ensure that the records are shared/update one way only? (i.e. import from subDatabase to mainDatabase and not main to sub?)

Tables :: Adding Records To Existing Table

May 19, 2014

What I have is a database that I have done some tweaking on and in the meantime the original db has been in use which has added around 200 or so more records in the table.

What I would like to do is to just update the db that I have been working on with the older db table(the one who has the additional 200 records).

EX. DB A(Old DB, Newer Table) DB B(New DB, Older Table)

I want to put DB A table into DB B

Is this a simple fix? Or do I need to write some sort of query to update the records in the old table? I've tried to export the excel file and then import but it puts it in unrelated objects and then my switchboard or nothing works.

Tables :: Adding Many To Many Relationships To Existing Table

Sep 13, 2012

I have 3 tables

tblProductInfo
- ProductID
- ProductItemNumber
- JDEDescription

tblFacility
- FacilityID
- FacilityDescription

tblProductFacilityMM
- ProductToFacilityID
- ProductIDFK (combined with FacilityIDFK to make a PK)
- FacilityIDFK

As I'm writing this out, I am realizing that tlbProductFacilityMM.producttoFacilityID is probably not necessary, but that I don't expect that to have much significance to the issue. So I've setup a query between the two tables:

Code:
SELECT tblProductInfo.ProductID, tblProductInfo.ItemNumber, tblProductInfo.JDEDescription, tblProductFacilityMM.FacilityIDFK, tblFacility.FacilityDescription
FROM tblFacility INNER JOIN (tblProductInfo INNER JOIN tblProductFacilityMM ON tblProductInfo.ProductID = tblProductFacilityMM.ProductIDFK) ON tblFacility.FacilityID = tblProductFacilityMM.FacilityIDFK;

And used it to create my subform which is simply a drop down box for tblProductFacilityMM.FacilityIDFK. My main form is one that has already been in use for 6 months or so, it is based off the tblproductinfo table and needs to have the option to select multiple Facilities for each ProductID. I inserted the subform, but when I try to select a facility I get an error that reads:

Quote: Cannot Join Records; Join key of tblProductFacilityMM not in recordset.
