Insert Form Variable Into Table
Apr 7, 2005
Hi
I have a form that displays line items and their cost. At the bottom of the form I have a text field called text17 that uses a sum to total the value of all the line item costs with this : =Sum([Line Cost])
How would I pass that value into a database table?

Public strOldTable,strNewTable as string
OldTable has data, NewTable is empty but with same field structure.
I assign names of tables to these variables and attempt to fill up the NewTable with the data from the OldTable using :
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO ('" & strNewTable & "') SELECT * FROM " & ('" & strOldTable & "')
I can find examples of use of the OldTable variable but not of use of the NewTable in this SQL.

If you want to use a "DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO" command to insert data in a table and the data to insert comes from a table and a form, could this be done in one pass?
So...writing a record wit 4 values from table1 together with a additional value from a textbox in table2 as 5 values.

I am at work, and I have acquired a database that prints labels. They now want the database to be coded so that after certain labels are printed the database will print a blank label. I have the code figured out as a Do While statement in order to print the blank label. The problem I am having is that I am trying to use the Insert Into command to insert the filepath into the table that adds the blank label.
|DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO Rod_tmakLabels ( Print, [Order] ) SELECT Yes AS Expr1, 'Rods Labels' AS Expr2"|
If I run the above command, it just adds the text "Rods Labels" at the end of the table. Is there anyway with the INSERT INTO command that I can insert the new label between the 2nd and 3rd row and add another row? Or is the command designed only to add a new row to the end? I haven't had any luck searching for this yet.

Hi,
I can't seem to get this right...any help much appreciated:
I have a two tables LESSON<PAYMENT (One to Many)
LESSON
Lesson_ID (PK autonumber)
Lesson_Date (Date)
PAYMENT
Payment_ID (PK autonumber)
Lesson_ID (FK)
Payment_Date (Date)
I am maintaining LESSON using a simple form. On creating each new LESSON record, I also wish to insert a row into PAYMENT, using values from the LESSON table - Payment_ID(autonumber), Lesson_ID = LESSON.Lesson_ID, Payment_Date = LESSON.Lesson_Date
What is the best way to do this?
I have tried to add an Event Procedure to 'Before Insert' but I can't seem to get the syntax correct. Also, for this to work, do I need to paint all fields on LESSON form including (hidden) PK?
I have simplified the tables above but they are relevant to what I am trying to do. Any help would be much appreciated- am new to Access...rather frustrating.
Many thanks,
Simon.
PS I have searched through existing messages but can't see one that answers this, I apologise if this has been answered before- just point me to the orig post.

i have a form, which is based on query from multiple tables.. in this form i want to add a unbound textbox in the detail section.. whenever a user leaves this records, the system should insert a record in another table with values from this record including this field... how to do this?
the record is from a query where as the field is unbound, still we need to insert the values from record and this field at the same time into another table..
example: i have item master and item production table.... from joining these table i get a query which will give me item A and prod qty .. when i use this query as form datasource, the detail section has these two fields.. now i want to have an unbound field budget.. so i have the followig in detail sectin
item A production qty budget qty
when users enter values in budgetqty field and moves to next recod,, the system should insert into another table xyz values (itemA, production qty, budget Qty)
how to do this..which event will be good.
urgent reply is expected.

I am working on a database tool for quality team.
I have around 30 text box on a form and trying to insert the value of those 30 text boxes in a table from vba.
Here is my code
Private Sub Submit_Click()
Dim a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z, aa, bb, cc, dd As String
Dim SQL As String
a = Month
b = Week
c = Type_of_Contact
d = Country
[Code] ....
From above code I am not able to get my working done
Can we use a variable in referring a field in insert query?
I am using variable because I am not able to write the whole code in a single line and when i am pressing enter it gives me a error.

Is there any possibilities to open form after INSERT INTO? I think Ms Access can't fast refresh data in the table after that, so form opens up clean:/
Code:
...
strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblZlecenia (id_zlecenia_info, DataPrzyjecia) VALUES ('" & ostateczne & "', Date())"
CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError
DoCmd.OpenForm "Formularz2", WhereCondition:="ID_Zlecenia=" & ostateczne

I'm trying to write some Code with the target to take a value from a textbox (out of a form) and a pregiven value (in this case = 2) and enter them in a new record in a table. But only if there is not already a record with the exact same combination of these to values. When done, the same button should proceed you to the next form (but this code is not already implemented in the fragment below) even if no values are added because they already exist in this combination.
Code:
Public Function GetID_PatientStudiesGroup&()
GetID_PatientStudiesGroup = [Forms]![frm_PatientStudiesGroupTZP]![ID_PatientStudiesGroup]
End Function
Private Sub BPRS_T1_Button_Click()
Call GetID_PatientStudiesGroup&
Dim strSQL As String
[Code] ....
As you can see, I tried to use a function to refer to the value out of the form, because I didn't find out how to refer to a form in an SQL Code.
Just to give you a better overview: The table where the information should be added is named "tbl_PatientStudiesGroupTZP". The form where you find the Textbox "ID_PatientStudiesGroup" (with the value I need to transport) is named "frm_PatientStudiesGroupTZP". Every part (except the WHERE NOT EXISTS part) worked perfectly for itself, but not when thrown together.

I am creating a 2 level report to confirm an order. Main report already created, runs successfully called as subform/subreport under "OrderDetails" form. Linked to master using Order.ID. There are two versions of the confirmation report that have different layouts for different program types.
The hangup comes when I try to add a "Class Dates" subreport. It lists dates of individual classes and Skip dates. I have created the subreport as "srClassDates". When I add it to the main report, it lists the records. However, when I try to link it to the Main report, an error message box appears with the "object variable or With block variable not set".
I have tried rebuilding both the main and subreports, rebuilt the query, have not found anything that changes the result.
Linker has been working successfully on other subforms. Report with groupings works fine, but I need data from 2 tables both linked to order.id.

I have a parent table (tblLabels) and a child table (tblRevision) where the revision history for the parent table is kept.
The parent table is populated via an excel import and may have several records imported at once. Instead of having the user manually enter a new record note in the child table for each record imported into the parent table, I've created a form that collects the necessary data (date, person who added the record, person who authorized the record, and notes) and then creates a revision history for each new record.
This is what I have so far:
Code:
Private Sub cmdAddNotes_Click()
Dim strSQL As String
Dim RevisionDate As String
Dim RevisionRevisedBy As String
Dim RevisionDesc As String
[Code] ....
When I run the code nothing happens. No error, no new records create, etc. My suspicion is that I may need to use an INSERT INTO query instead of an UPDATE query, but I'm not sure how to go about matching up the foreign keys if that's the case.

Hi
I have a small database with 4 tables that I am using for the current problem.
The tables are call, parents, mailman, orders.
Call and parents are related by the call ID (a primary key in the Call table.).
Mailman and orders are related by a Unique Id (a primary key in the mailman table.).
Forms involved are frmmain and frmsub.
Frmmain contains the call table information in the main form and parents information in the subform.
When a user enters a call with call ID and enters the operator name and parents information in the sub form,
When a user clicks the OK button on the main form, necessary changes should take place
if they enter the case type in the sub form part of parent information as ‘missing information’ or ‘missing link’ then the parent information with fields first name, lastname, case type, operator information should be inserted into mailman table in appropriate fields.
Simultaneously a record should be inserted into orders( after the record is first inserted into mailman, since both tables are linked with unique id) with the following information.
Orderid being autonumber.
Uniqueid from the mailman table.
Orderdate system date.
Ordertype should be “Mailman”

Error 91 - Object variable or With block variable not set
I am getting this error telling me that an object variable is not set.
I know which variable it is but when I step through the debugger it sets the variable and all is fine? Issue is that public variable of a class is not getting set when the VBA Editor is not open?

I'm using Access 2010 and am trying to pass a variable in a form field and store it in a table i.e. I have a customer database with various fields: Customer_ID, Customer_Name, Customer_Address etc. After selecting a particular record i.e. Customer_ID = 20 l need to store the record number '20' in a temporary table. I presume that l could then use Dlookup to read the info back at a later stage.

How to copy a column from one table and insert it into another table in the same database
Hi, All,
I have two tables (old and new) sitting in the same database. The new table is the result of 'data cleansing' done by an external company. In the process (export and import via excel) two memo type colums in the table were truncated in excel.
To make the new table usable, I must therefore now copy/insert the two memo columns from the old table into the new table.
Both tables are already Access tables and sit in the same database. Both tables, of course, have the same number of rows.
I tried to high-light one column in the old table, clicked copy, then high-lighted a blank column in the target table, then clicked Paste, but got error msg: "This text is too long for this field. Try copying a shorter text", as if I had wanted to copy the whole column into one cell rather than one column into another column of equal length.
What is the best way to proceed?
Thanks for your help.
Adrian

Newbie question: I have a database where we track dispatched with two tables, one called Slots, the other called Dispatches.
In the slots table there are 2 fields, one called Week (which hold the Monday date for each week in the year), the other called Available (in this field we want to manually enter a number that will tell the system how many dispatches we can do that week). We want to automatically take the number from the Slots.Available and enter X number of blank records in the Dispatch table with the monday date.
How can this be done?
Then we will create a form that can be filled in with the balance of the information.
Thanks

I look at a lot of files to see when they were last updated. I wanted to write a generic procedure to manage that so ..
Code:
Public fDate As Variant
Public vField As String
Public vFile As String
'GTSdata
vField = "txt_gts_data"
[Code] ....
What I hoped Me.vField would do is update the date field [txt_gts_data] on my form with the date the file was last saved.
i.e. me. txt_gts_data = fDate
What actually happens is the variable vfield gets updated from "txt_gts_data" to 19/08/2014 then later code falls over because the fieldname is lost .
Me.[vField] corrects itself to me.vField (and does not work)
Me!vfield falls over (cannot find the field vField, not surprising J)
How do I say update the contents of the variable, not the variable itself?

Runtime error '91'
Running Access 2010.
I have two reports running off of the same crosstab query. I copied one report to make the second report, then modified the second report to change the background of column fields satisfying certain conditions. These lines of code were added to the Detail_Format section, in color below. The report with the extra code lines does not error--the original report errors.
Code:
Option Compare Database
' Constant for maximum number of columns EmployeeSales query would
' create plus 1 for a Totals column. Here, you have 9 employees.
Const conTotalColumns = 11
[Code] .....
If I say OK (rather than debug) after the error message, I can then click the button for the report again and it runs without complaint. And, as I said, the report with the added code never errors.

is it possible to name a field in a query or a table with a variable name?
For example:
I want to choose in listbox "fieldname" the name of the field.
And the query field name looks like:
Code:
forms![testform]![fieldname]: FieldOfTheTable
Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Also if I save the choosen fieldname in a vba function.
Code:
fieldNameFunction(): FieldOfTheTable
This doesn't work, too.

I'm trying to run this very very simple code but I get a Run-time error '3450' Syntax error in query. Incomplete query clause. For sure the problem is the variable I used as Table parameter but I cannot understand where my error is :
Private Sub cmdRunCheck_Click()
Dim strSQL As String
Dim strTempTbl As String
strTempTbl = "tblCheckDoubles"
strSQL = "DELETE * FROM " & "'" & strTempTbl & "'"
CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError
End Sub
What is clear is that if I use this line the Sub is working smoothly
strSQL = "DELETE * FROM tblCheckDoubles"
Please do not tell me that it is not possible to use a variable as Table parameter....

I am trying to deny users from logging on from multiple pc's. Here is how i've got it so far,created table tblLoginLock with fields EmpID and LoggedIn both numberical data type created a form to set the Empid with tempvar!TempEmpId and LoggedIn as 1 when a user logs in.When he clicks the logOff button he is signed out and a form opens up and closes to set the LoggedIn field to 0.Now whenever a user is signed the LoggedIn Field is checked with this expression
Code:
DLookUp("[TempVars]!TempEmpID","tblLoginLock","[LoggedIn]=1")
if there is a one then the user is logged in the condtion is met and a message box pops up to warn the user that he is already logged in.
The above code does not check the specific TempVar to the LoggedIn field, the LoggedIn field is randomly checked for a '1' meaning if there is a '1' anywhere in the table then the condition is met and the user denied. how can i set the condition to validate the logged in user to the LoggedIn field.
