Is It Possible To Print A .xls Form Form View?
Aug 15, 2007
I want to place a button on my form that will let users print a .xls form to gather data on. They will use this form to enter the data into the database.
I can create the button to open the .xls form but the user would then need to click the print button in excel. I am trying to eliminate a step for the user.
If this requires code please be very spacific as I am not familiar with it.
Thank you

hi
i have 3 queries brought together in 1 form. i do not want a report to be printed out just the current record in form view. this is because i have a number of images per record.
if i print out the current record and it only has 1 photo in a sub-form attached to the main form record, then the main form will print on 1 page which is what i want [screenshot 1]. But if there are 2 or more photos attached to the main record then the print command button prints out 2 pages for 2 photos, 3 pages for 3 photos and so on [screenshot 2].
any ideas as to how to limit the print command button to print out only 1 page per record regardless of how many photos their are attached to each record??
thanks

I am working on a DB that will have multiple reports available. What I would like to do is to have a form that lists the reports available from a reports table. In other words, each detail line of the form will contain a report. I would like to have a button or link placed in the detail line that will open the report for that detail line when it is clicked. This will keep me from having to add a new line to a static form every time I add a report.
I have tried the DoCmd.OpenReport command, but it requires a report name, and I can't find where you can place a field name variable in the command line. I have tried other things I have seen here, but none have done the trick.

After reading many of the posts here, I decided that one of the problems with the tables in the db I was working on was in the primary keys. I had used the same field name as the primary key in all of my tables. This was RecipID, which was a user entered textbox with an example in a label beside it showing the format to use.
After reading stuff here, I decided this wasn't a good idea. So I changed RecipId to be an autonumber in the parent table (Household_Info) and a long integer foreign key in the children. Also, I added some fields to the parent table to identify the head of household (lastname, firstname)
I already had a continuous form made with a subform and a pop-up form associated with it based on my previous tables. Reran the query underlying the form, and the new fields showed up in the field list box for the form. The fields are all still present in design view, but I get a totally blank form in form view. I checked the forms recordsource and made sure that it was set to the new query.
Can anyone give me an idea about what I'm overlooking? Do I have to recreate the form?
(Sorry if this is a repeat of a question someone has already addressed, but I couldn't turn up any relevant threads after several hours of searching.)
Thanks, Charlotte

I have a Form which I have linked correctly to a subform. The Text boxes are showing in the Design view but are not when one switches to the Form View. Labels for Fields are visible in the Form View. Have even created a new subform and that will also not display the Text Boxes.

Why the ability to view the properties of an object within a form is not available when you double click on it in design view?
I was happily working away double clicking on a command button to edit some code when for some reason the next time I tried to edit it did not open up for me.
I was unable to access it even by right clicking on the object & selecting properties as that also appears to be disabled, not greyed out or anything but just does nothing when selected.
Have I inadvertently changed a setting somewhere that prevents the properties from being displayed?

See title :)
I have seen that in some sample db's rightclicking the mouse showed the menu with an option to check or uncheck the dataview option, unchecked the formview was applied, but when i 'just' import the subform, i cannot find somewhere the possibility to change from dataview to formview.
Maybe someone can help me with this, probably very simple(?), question?

I have 4 tables and around 440 records but can only view up to 417 in the form I have designed. I have been adding new records via form and it has been added to my main table, but when i try to view it in form view - the record is not available to view. What do I need to do to correct this problem?
I have checked that there are no filters, data entry is set to No, Auto deletions, additions and edits are set to yes.
Also to mention it seems that the problem has arisen since I set up some new queries, there is a one to one relationship between the tables!

I have a Lost/Found property database which we use to keep record of the lost/found property and it is working fine.
As per our organization's policy, we keep the item(s) for up to three months in which if it gets restored to the owner then fair enough otherwise after three months the item(s) can be claimed by the "Finder". But for this very purpose we issue the Finder with a "Claim Receipt" which he/she should bring in when claiming for the item(s) after three months period. Therefore, It's just the right time to upgrade the database to a more professional level.
The database has one table and two forms.
One form (LostFoundForm) is visible to the user in which they enter data, this form has two sections; Item(s) & Finder's details and the second section is about Restoring details.
However the second form (ClaimReceiptForm) is hidden to the users (for manual data entry) and has only one section which is exactly the same as the first form's first section, i.e., Item(s) & Finder's details. This second form takes the data automatically from the first form because the table behind them is same and fields are same (please see attachment). Up to here it's all working fine.
I would like to introduce a Checkbox or a CommandButton in the LostFoundForm which when we click should pull up a msgbox asking "Do you want to print the receipt for this item(s)?" with a Yes/No option. On clicking "No" it should, obviously, settle down but on clicking "Yes" it should print the "corresponding record" from the ClaimReceiptForm.

I have a main form (tsTimeSheetMain) which contains a sub form (tsTimeSheetDataNewSub) in data sheet view. When I click off one row onto another row in the sub form, it triggers this code:
Forms!tsTimeSheetMain!ProjectMonSum.Requery
i.e. it tries to requery the ProjectMonSum field (on the main form) which is a dsum calculated field. This works fine and updates the ProjectMonSum field (which dsums values from the same datasource as the subform.
However, this seems to put the cursor back to the top left field in the subform (datasheet view), rather than leave it in the field I click on (in the subform).
Why is this happening and what is a decent workaround this issue? I just want to update the calculated dsum field each time you update values in the subform.

how to hide the the 'Details' section in my form when viewing it in Split Form. I tried to use
Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.Detail.Visible = False
End Sub
but that just makes the Details section look blank, as oppose to not having it there at all.
have only the Form Header and Datasheet visible in the Form View of my form. Similar to the 'Contact List' form in the Contacts Template that comes with Access.

I have a form that I can view in Design view and layout view just fine.
BUT --
If I just try to open the form in from view, it disappears somewhere even though it says it's open.
If I view it in Layout view first, then Form view, it shows.
I've removed any code behind to try and figure out what's going on but it still happens.

Hi, I am in the process of creating a new database - I am a bit new to this. I have a main form, which also contains two subforms. The record source of the main part of the form is 11 tables, and then each of the subforms is based on one table each (so there are 13 tables altogether).
Everything seems to be linked up ok, and when I add new information to the form (and the subforms), the information gets saved to the tables as it should be. However, I want to be able to view past records in the form view, so that users can regularly update past records using form view. I can't do this. Each time I open the form view, the thing at the botton left says 'record one of one.' THen if I put the curser in (for eg) the box called 'client name' and click on the search button, I get a message saying:
"you can't find or replace now, the fields are not searchable due to:
- the fields are controls;
- the fields have no data;
- there are no fields to search."
well I don't really know what that means. There is definately data in there somewhere, because I can view it in the table view, but I'd like to be able to view and update old records, and search, in the form view.
any tips?
thanks for helping

I faced a dilemma over the weekend in that I needed to preview and then print the ascii character 219 (A black block) on a report. It overlayed a paper calendar form that we use to print temporary access passes for where I work. The black blocks would indicate the days for the pass. Unfortunately, using Chr(219) did not work - so I searched the forums here and had a bit of luck, but still the solution remained elusive. Finally (and I should have done this first :)) I went to Help in access and found the answer.
To view or print any special character go to the start button on the computer, then navigate to programs, then accessories, then tools, then character map. Once there, choose whatever character you want and write down the Unicode number that applies. In my case, 2588. Convert that to decimal (Because it is in Hex) to 9608 and use an SQL statement Yourfield = ChrW(9608) to view or print it. The W is added to let the program know that this is a Unicode character and not ascii.
I read a lot of ingenious solutions in the forum, but this one seems to be the most straight forward.

Form: entryform
Fields:
RecordDate
Department
DepartmentNumber
7 text fields
6 memo
What I am looking to do is be able to click on a combo box for departments so that once a department is selected, the latest record for that department is populated in the form, however, it is opened as a NEW record so that when any changes are made to the information in the form to the text or memo fields, it is saved as a new record.
I'm having a lot of trouble with this.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Hello:
I have a main form and a large sub form that covers alot of the main form fields. My question is when I'm in design mode, the sub form blocks the fields I need to edit. I've tried setting the sub form "sent to rear" and the fields "sent to front", but this does not seem to solve the problem. So I end up dragging the sub form
off to no-mans land and then place it back. Is there way to say hide the sub form in design view and then unhide it.
Thank you

I have a form which displays an incorrect form name in the header/tab when in form view - its always correct in design view. Somehow it chooses to display the name of another form I have in the database. I have tried saving the form to a new name, this does not solve it. I have also tried saving the other form from which the name seems to have been borrowed, but this makes no difference. Incidentally, now matter what names I give the two forms, the original (incorrect) form name persists. I have tried compact and repair and vba debug. No effect.

I have the following code in the On Format Event of the report. It is used to hide duplicates which result from very loose Where parameters when I run Docmd.OpenReport. With tighter Where parameters there are no Duplicates.
I am aware that the On Format event does not fire and I am to use the On Paint event. However, the On Paint Event seems very limited. It does not have a Cancel and most code that i tried does not work.
Code:
Private strLastGen As String 'Report Module Variable
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
'If a duplicate Generator
If Me.GeneratorNumber & Me.GeneratorName = strLastGen Then
Cancel = True
End If
' Save the Gen Num of this record
strLastGen = Me.GeneratorNumber & Me.GeneratorName
End Sub

Hi,
I put a print command button on a form and found that it actually prints the form, pretty much as seen.
What I actually wanted was to print a report which takes all the details of the current record shown in the form, including subforms and tabbed pages.
That way, a user could navigate to the record by any one of several different fields (contract number, project title, project number, and various other ways projects are identified in the organisation I work for) and get a snapshot of the entire project for reference without having to print a report for all 250+ projects and then looking for the project of interest.
Thanks in advance.
Keith.
