VBA Linked Table Manager

Jan 14, 2006

I have successfully automated the refresh of my linked tables using VBA (thanks to a post on this forum -- Cool). Anyway, what I would like to know now is this:

If my table collection does not have any linked tables, using VBA, how can I get that list of available tables to show? Assume that I will be connecting to the same database (Oracle) through an ODBC connection. I dont wish to change the connection - just want that window with all tables to shouw up.

Thanks guys/gals for the help.

Hello,
Does anyone know how to use a Macro or Module to refresh/update linked excel worksheets in an access DB. I used to delete all the tables then re-add them. There must be a better more correct way. Any ideas?

Linked Table Manager Doesn't Relink ODBC Tables.

Sep 15, 2006

Hello,

The scenario. Two PC's, one older than the other, both running Windows 2000 (SP4) and Office 2000 (SP3). I use Access as a front end to a MySQL database, connections are made using ODBC.
I recently altered the structure of a table and attempted to re-link the table in access using the Linked Table Manager on the new PC. All that happened was the hourglass came on and never went away. I tried to do this on the old PC and it worked fine first time.

Any ideas why I can't get it to work on my new PC? It's quite important as I won't have the old PC with me much longer :-(

Regards,

Matt.

Linked Table Manager File Path View Truncation Problem

Sep 30, 2005

How do you get to see the entire file path in Access Linked Table Manager of linked tables that are located in a folder with a long path? The problem is that you can only view the first 64 or so characters of the table’s path. This is a real problem when these linked tables need to be updated and you don't know where it’s stored.

General :: Linked Table Manager Looking For Old Table Name

Jun 20, 2014

I have a database that is used in our office. It is split with the backend stored on a network share.

I need to make some updates, and to do maintenance I usually make a copy of the frontend/backend to my desktop, and use the linked table manager to switch to using the local copy of the backend so I don't mess up the main data. All good so far.

however, I recently added a new table, and originally called it "overRides", I then decided that "adjustments" was a more suitable name and changed it.

Now whenever I try to switch from the main backend to my local copy I get a message when relinking "adjustments" that Access cannot find the object "overRides" and to make sure it exists and the name is spelled correctly...

I have been just deleting the linked table and reimporting "adjustments" but this issue keeps coming back and it's driving me nuts!

How can I make Access forget that this table used to be called "overRides"?

Tables :: Auto-Fill Fields Based On Linked Table (Access 2007)

Jan 6, 2015

I understand right off the bat if you're reaction is "don't duplicate data!!" -- mine would be too (don't fret, I know my normalization).

I've linked a table in my db to my Global Address Book in Outlook 2007 and, upon entering an employee number as a new record, would like to verify that the number entered is listed in the GAL and then pull in the associated name and location info.

The key is that I don't want this info to rely on the GAL going forward. For example, if an employee leaves or is no longer listed in the GAL, I don't want to lose the employee info (past data is needed for audit purposes). Note: I will be creating a report later to show if there are discrepancies between the GAL and my table, but that's another story...

So, what would be the best auto-fill options in Access 2007?

Table Problems Moving From Access 2003 -> Access 2007

Jun 19, 2007

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.

However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.

My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

No Link Table Manager

Sep 6, 2005

I am working on a new system. Have been given Full MS Access but Link Table Manager fails it gives a standard security warning that this new system enforces it says Opening: CProg..FilesMSOfficeOffice11ACWZTOOL.MDE however on selecting OPEN nothing happens. If Cancel is hit then
long critical message saying in short " Can't find wizard , syntax error in delerations in VB. Likewise I cannot link to a spreadsheet without using the manager.

Question is there anything I can do or is it the fact that these are options were not installed and it is an administrators job?

Table Link Manager

Jan 31, 2008

I searched the internet and different forums, but could not find the solution for my problem. In Access 2003 I splitted the database and made a mde file of the frontend. When I copy the front and backend to another computer it cannot find the backend due to the original path is included. To solve this I would like the database to link the backend that is available in the directory of the frontend. No more and no less. Is this possible? I find a lot of questions in this direction, but could not destilate a solution.

Access 2007 / Indexes In A Table?

Mar 18, 2014

I am trying to consolidate a few tables I made to make them less numerous and hopefully easier to handle. At one point I received an error message that said I had exceeded the maximum number of indexes in a table (32) and thus it could not be saved. When I scroll through my table in design mode every box that has "Indexed" as an option is marked at "no". Many boxes do not have that option and thus I am not sure if those are automatically indexed(?), not indexed(?) or that indexing is not relevant for those values(?). I definitely do not have any, let alone 32+ boxes, that have "indexed" checked to "yes" though. They are all "no".

How do I figure out which columns in my table are indexed otherwise so that I can reduce those numbers and get more columns on my tables (by the way, I am no where near the limit of 255 columns on any of my tables)

General :: Copy Data From Local Access Table To Linked SQL Server Table?

Jan 13, 2014

I have an MS Access accdb with linked SQL Server 2012 ODBC tables. I am working on a procedure to copy data from local tables to these linked tables (identical schema). I did a simple

Code:

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO linkedTable SELECT * FROM localTable"

This works, but is very slow. Way too slow. (INSERT copies the data one record at a time).

I would like to copy the data in a bulk operation, or operations that I can execute programmatically.

Append Records From An Access Table To SQL Server Linked Table

Jul 21, 2006

I am rebuilding an application for a client and I have an Access table that I am using as a temporary table. Once the user is done entering information into the temporary table through a form, the user presses an update button that appends the records using an Append Query in Access to an SQL Server Table.

The following error message occurs:

"ODBC -- insert on a linked table 'linked tblname' failed.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Explicit value must be specified for identity column in table 'linked tblname' when IDENTITY INSERT is set to ON. (#545)

I am using a form, subform combination to record a bill with many details. The bill summary is posted into a tbl_TransactionsMain table in SQL Server using the ADO AddNew method. The PK for the tbl_TransactionsMain is then entered into the temporary table in Access. When the temporary table records are appended into tbl_TransactionDetail the error message occurs.

What is also interesting is while typing out this post I thought to test the error by manually trying to run the query. The query worked like a charm! When the orginal error occurred off of the form I tried to run the query manually and it failed. I am guessing that this might have something to do with the ODBC timeout.

I think SQL Server/ODBC connection is not liking how I have a set of records in an Access table with foreign key numbers assigned when I am attempting to append the records. I am new to SQL Server and any ideas are most appreciated! :)

Access Error 3027 When Using VBA To Append Table To A Linked Table?

Apr 7, 2014

I have two tables, submit and imgdest. Submit is edited by front-end users to load pictures for back-end users who then delete the images when they're done with them. Submit is edited by a form, in the form I've placed a button (Command37) that has code:

Code:
Private Sub Command37_Click()
Call InsertData
MsgBox "Completed", "0", "Completed Backup"
Exit Sub
End Sub
Private Sub InsertData()

[code]....

This code was working for a short while, now anytime it's run I get error 3027 - Cannot update. Database or object is read-only. However, I can open the linked table and manually change information in it with no problems.

Access 2007 Crashes On Excel 2007 Import

Mar 21, 2008

On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:

1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK

Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.

Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.

Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."

Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.

I have turned off DEP.

How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?

Thanks

Ken

Combo Box Based On Linked Table Needs To Pull Info For Sub-Form From Non Linked Table

Aug 31, 2007

I am trying to build a Form that will show an estimate (then eventually will be moved to a project if customer and employee aggree to price and project) in a Form F_Estimates is a M_Customers(Customer_ID) (Based on a Table) and thier info in a Subform. Also is the "projected costs" from parts out of the Parts(Part_ID) (Based on another Table) in a second Subform as a list that I need to calculate $$$ in
(Dang that still sounds evil and definately NOT understandable even after edit... so)

Here's some basic info

Tables

EstimatesandParts - Table
EstimatesandParts_ID : Autonumber
Estimate_ID : Number
Part_ID : Number

Parts - Table
Part_ID : Autonumber
PartNumber : Text (not a number due to some part#s have letters in them)
PartName : Text
Unit Price : Currency
Description : Text

Estimates - Table
Estimate_ID : Autonumber
InvoiceNumber : Text (again can have letters in it)
EstimateDate : Date/Time
EstimateTime : Date/Time
Employee_ID : Number
Customer_ID : Number
ProblemDescription : Memo

Customers - Table
Customer_ID : Autonumber
FirstName : Text
LastName : Text
CompanyName : Text
Address : Text
City : Text
Province_State : Text
Postal_ZIPCode : Text (CDN Postal codes are letter num letter...)

you can see the link table in the EstimatesandParts Table

Now I want to use that link to populate a subform in the F_Estimates form

Forms

SF_Customers - SubForm

(all boxes atm are text boxes on this form till I figure out the Parts section then will use same base for this so I can pick any customer in the database to be the customer for this estimate. Also will have ctrl button for making new customer with customer form and a refresh on Focus Gain bit of code)

FirstName
LastName
CompanyName
Address
City
Province_State
Postal_ZIPCode

SF_Parts - SubForm
Default View -Continuous Forms

(want it to be a list of parts that I can grab prices and descriptions from then in a bit of code to calculate a cost of parts)

Part_ID : Combo Box
Control Source - Part_ID
Row Source Type - Table/Query
Row Source - SELECT Parts.Part_ID, Parts.PartNumber, Parts.PartName, Parts.UnitPrice, Parts.Description FROM Parts ORDER BY Parts.Description;

(Pulls info from the table Parts for input into a list of parts to be used on that project)

PartName : Text Box
UnitPrice : Text Box

(here's where I run into problems due to the fact that the form is not based on the parts table but rather the link table EstimatesandParts so I can't propogate the info to the 2 other text boxes, ps I dont care if they cant be text boxes and have to be linked or some other type I'm not "set" just need to find out how to make it work )

(have tried a couple things to complete this task)

Me.txtPartName = Me.Part_ID.Column(2)
Me.txtUnitPrice = Me.Part_ID.Column(3)

(works AWSOME ... for ONE ROW then propogates the second selection to the first and second and third selection to first second and third and so on ...)

(tried to make control source for the txtPartName to)

=Forms!Parts!Partname

(Doesnt exist .. akkk, cant use ActiveForm either as it doesn't focus on the SubForm but the MainForm ... cry)

F_Estimates - Form

Estimate_ID
InvioceNumber
EstimateDate
EstimateTime
ProblemDescription

(all basic Text Boxes)

Employee_ID
Customer_ID

(Combo Boxes Select Customer and Employee from list of present ones of each)

SF_Customers
SF_Parts

(Both SubForms on the main form)

Now this is an Exerp from my entire Database I like to work on one small problem at a time and I have made this its own little database till I figure out the problem then I will bring the info I learn back into the rest of the database and go from there ...

Hope you can help I have a feeling I will need to make a recordset and go from there but I'm just not able to wrap my head around that for some reason

Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL help that I get from here
