I need help! I've set up a database with a subform that worked until recently. I get an error message that says: The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error:'Invalid outside procedure'
I had added a date and time stamp for when something gets modified it changes the date/time. I even backtracked and took all that out from tables, forms, queries etc. but the error keeps appearing when I'm trying to update my subform.

I have a form and a subform in MS Access 2003. I have made some changes to database structure, so I decided to change the subform also. When I changed the Link child and link master fields, the controls of the subdatasheet dissapear- they show only in design view. If I clear the contents of Link child and link master fields they appear again, but the records are not binded.
Is there a setting on the parent form that also has to be changed, to make the new binding?

I am building a user creation form. I have built it with 3 subforms
Subform 1 is voor general information about the user.
Subform 2 is some more specific information about the user
Subform 3 is more info about the same user.
Now when I create a user (record) in subform 1 it gets the primary key lets say 14. Then when i add information in subform 2. I want it to grab the Primary key 14 from subform 1. So that the information which is inputted in subform 2 will be related to information from subform 1. I get it working if I make a Main form and then put subform 2 and 3 in a subform and then let them grab the primary key from the main form. But how does this work with 3 subforms and no mainform.
I was wondering if it was possible to have a master table where say 10 of my regulatory tables and their data once inputted from the forms will appear there? Is this possible? Because right now, each of my regulatory tables has a form where the data is inputted and appears within said table.
All these tables are separate, obviously. I want to consolidate all the information into one spot, is this a possibility within access?

I'm having problems with an Update query. I have data coming in on one file that I am loading to a temp table that I want to update on another table in my database. The problem is that when I run my update query, it is wiping out everything that DOESN'T match. I have 5 fields that MUST be equal before the update can occur. I'm trying to update 3 fields in my "master" table.
Here is my SQL:

I have a form which I am using child/master fields to create a filter (see attached pic)
For the date ranges I need these to be
>= Start Date and <= Actual Finish Date
How can I set the criteria for these two fields, so that when someone picks a date it knows it's from or before the date entered.
I have 2 tables, master & child. with a one to many relationship.
On one of my forms I want to display some of the fields from the master table and only the last entry from my child table.

The file C:Data.Txt contains 5 columns, separated by a semicolon with the first line containing the names of the columns. The concern is that when the linked table is created, I get a single column with all fields concatenated value. the following style :
Col1;Col2;Col3; : Column name
Val1;Val2;Val3; : Row value
What does do to have columns separated with the corresponding values?
i have a button that open another form. the form should copy some filed from the form that the button in it.
Example. i have the from-A with field name- ID. in this form there is a button that open form-B.
this form had also the field ID and another fields of information on the specific person (with the same person form the form_A)
i want that the ID will automaticlly updated whrn i open the form so i can add another information. these are teo tables that are linked together and that is the reason that witohut the ID it cant be updated, and i dont want to update it manually.
I've been using MS access to lift some text files for a number of years
I have now got an issue where by the new machinary is very clever and has alittle server to collect the data. Machine1_127.0.0.1, Machine2_127.0.0.1
Previously I picked them up via ftp and downloaded the data into a text file called Machine1.txt
Now I can run a server where by the Machine1_.txt is created locally on the processing machine
however the software included ( which I can't change) just creates text files like so Machine1_127.0.0.1 and now the link doesn't work when I create the link access throw this:
"Microsoft Jet Database engine could not find the object c:Path to fileMachine1_127.0.0.1.txt. Make sure the object exists and name and Path are correct"
If I manually copy the file and rename it to machine1.txt all is good
Any offers/thoughts or suggestions, the path is quite deep at present and that could be changed.
I can't import the files either? unless I rename them and at the moment I am doing this through the interface
I simply want to link a table from one database to another but am getting an Error -1002 with the error description: "'|' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long."
I have tried just creating a basic table with one field and linking it to another database and still getting the error. It happens when I compact and repair on close.
Anyone can help me how to link fields in different tables. Im creating a databse that has an ID. and that ID will be same with the ID on the other table.
Table 1
ID = 123
Table 2
ID = link to (Table 1 ID) and when i input characters on the Table 1 ID field it will appear or inputed also at Table 2 ID field.

Can anybody help me, I have a database with over 4,000 records in one table and >800 contacts in another, I have company ID auto number in the site details and contact ID autonumber and company ID number in the contacts, I have an embedded table in the site form but when I try to enter new contact details it comes up with the error message
'the LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'Ambiguous name detected:call_click'
I have checked all the relationships and they appear to be ok. I have also rebuilt the subform but I still have problems, does anybody have any idea how I can fix this?

Can you tell me if the following is possible and if so how to do it.
I have several different tables which require a date to be entered.
99% of the time this date is the same ie
(Table 1) Visit Date = (Table 2) Scan date 1
(Table 1) Visit Date = (Table 3) Scan date 2 etc.....
However in some cases Scan date 1 and/or Scan date 2 may not be the same as Visit date so the input does need to be editable.
Is there anyway I can link the information in Table 1 to automatically be displayed and stored in Table 2/3 and to be able to edit Tables 2/3 if the scan date is different to the visit date which it could be for a small number of records.
Is this possible or is it simply impossible to do this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I have a table "InventoryTracker", with one field lookup set to list (drop down) and the source is another table "inventory", field "Item". This works good and all the items that I enter in the "inventory" table are available from the "InventoryTracker" table. Both "inventory" and "InventoryTracker" have a field called price.
Heres what I want to have happen.
When I select a item from the drop down list menue in "InventoryTracker" it automatically fills in the "InventoryTracker" price based on the price from the "inventory" table (for the item with the same name, the one I just selected). This has to be fairly straitforward, I can do it in excell, but not acess.

What I have is a table ('tblJobLog') with our main listing in it where we add customer job information as it comes in. The 'Customer Name' is a dropdown list that links to our table 'tblCustomers' so that we can ONLY select a customer name that we deal with. The alternative is to add a customer or list them as COD.
Now this is where I would like to target, the COD's. We still like to keep a record of who the COD is and we have some common customers that are listed as COD only.... So when we go to enter the customer name we have to put COD and in the description we are suppose to input the customer name (We will says RandyShop <--- me, for now).
What I would like to have done, if possible, is to see when we select 'RandysShop' from the dropdown, it checks to see if the COD Status (in the 'tblCustomers' table) is set to YES (its a check box, or YES/NO field). If it is set to YES (or selected) then the change the name shown in my main 'tblJobLog' to look something like COD: RandysShop.
The reason I would like, if possible, to do it this way, is because some customer go on and off COD regularly as the mess around with payment. So instead of creating a new customer that is listed as COD: RandysShop to have access do the leg work based on a simple YES/NO field (COD Status).

I have created 4 tables which have 3 field common in all these tables and carry the same data value. Is it possible to enter data in the first tables and it copies to other tables automatically. After all its the same 4 data fields in these tables.

This is my first attempt with cascading combo boxes (2) and with the help of the forum I've made it work BUT, I feel like an idiot because I'm drawing a complete blank on how to link them back to a "main" data table.
The example I used as a reference was to create them as unbound boxes while using queries to pull for each of the combo boxes. I have 4 tables. One will serve as the main table while 3 others are each feeding one of the combo boxes. I went back and set the main table as the record source and added some of the other fields but those unbound fields have me stumped.
If anyone recognizes an earlier post that clarifies this, please let me know. I've looked through numerous posts but haven't found one yet.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a copy of the back-end that gets a search key error 3709 on two records. In other words, I can duplicate the problem.
The interesting part is that I can update any other field on both these records and save the record, but when I try to change two specific fields, I get a Search Key Error and have to ESC out to continue (basically UNDO the change). Both fields are text fields with lengths of 7 characters and 255 characters, and both are COMBO Boxes on the form.
I tried to focus on the form think there was an issue in the code. I can definitely TRAP the 3709 error on the ON ERROR event on the form using "if dataerr = 3709", but then I tried something even simplier.
I went directly to the table and to each of the records. Again I can update any other field in the record but these two specific fields. When I try to change either of them and move to another record, you get a Search Key Error 3709.
By going to the table record directly I'm as low level as I can get. There are no validation rules on either field at the database level. If it was truly CORRUPT would it let me update any of the other fields on either of these records? One is an empid (not a primary key but is indexed with duplicates okay and not required), and one is status code (not a primary key but is indexed with duplicates okay and not required) so they're no critical fields, but something is keeping them from CHANGING.
Just tried something else; deleted the INDEXES on both the fields. Now it works! I am completely confused now because it really wasn't a corrupt record, but the indexes are causing the problem. Do I need to update the indexes somehow when the users selects a new empid or status code?
I am trying to create a database for a cub scout pack that just keeps scouts information, medical info, parents info, and parents medical info each is a seperate table. I have created a Tab controlled form with 4 tabs. On each tab the ONLY thing I have is a subform that contains the appropriate information. Each table has it's own form with the table as it's record source. I link the scouts table to the medical table by SID which is a primary key in the Scouts table. I link the Scouts table to the Parents table with a PID which is the Primary Key in my Parents table, and I link the Parents with the ParentsMed with a PMedID, key in the ParentsMed table.
Question #1 - Using a Tab Control you can only have 1 record source. What should I use? I have tried the tblScouts and I have also created a query with every field from every table.
#2 - When I try to use the parent and child links on the subform I get the error "Can't build a link between unbound forms" but each form is bound to the table and the record source on the tab control has had a table and my qryEverything, neither work. I can type in SID but it still doesn't function properly.
Any suggestions or comments on a better relationship method or any insight on how tab controls are supposed to be setup or anything would be greatly appreciated.

I have a table "Product" and in this table I have two fields "StoragePlaceID1" and "StoragePlaceID2". Both these fields link to the look-up table "StoragePlace"

When I want to add a new Product from my inter face i get the error you can see in the Attached Image "Save_Error".I think the problem is that the Relationship is defined as One-to-Many,there a way to define the relationship as Zero-to-Many.
I have a table in which I have about 245 fields (I know they are too much, but cant change the structure).
There are about 4 numeric fields, which have field type as Long Integer. I want to change them to Field type Single.
When I try to change them, I get a message too many fields defined.
What is the solutionß
