Linking A Table To 3GB Text File?
Dec 20, 2013
I'm trying to link a table to a massive 3GB text file so that I can generate a report. The text file is an exported Access query, so I can analyze the data in query form, BUT I'd like to analyze as a text file to confirm that nothing is altered during the export process. (e.g. Sometimes rounding errors can alter data, etc.)
Unfortunately, I'm getting an error saying that the text file is too big.

I have a table in Access databse link to excel file in the network, the format of the fields of this file are set to general. When I create a link table wizard the fileds formats changes to numbers for some of them. It's wierd, I spent a lot of time figuring out what is the problem and creating new excel file with changing the fields format around and still not solving the problem. Any idea or help for this problem is apperciated. Thanks

I have made a form (frmLogin) that is used as my homepage and has command buttons that take the user to other forms. However, I am trying to make the txt box on the frmLogin be able to filter by a date found in a table (tblDefaults) when the form is opened.
I am trying to pull the value from the tblDefaults form the column "DefDate". Whenever I open the form I get an error that says "Compile error: Invalid use of property." Here is the VBA code that I have written. Also when debugging it highlights ControlSource in my VBA code so that seems to be where the problem is but I can not figure out why.
VBA code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim SQL As String
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
[code]....

Hi, I'm trying to import a text file (just for a test at the moment) with the fields seperated by |'s.
The table I'm trying to import to has the fields -
ID, First Name, Last Name, Gender.
The ID is an autonumber though so what can I put there in the text file because I'm getting an error? :confused:

Hi,
I am trying to email a table in text format using :
DoCmd.SendObject acSendTable, "Table", acFormatTXT, , , , "Results", "Attached are the reslts"
It sends the file in text file format, but it adds "-" & "|" characters all over the file. Is there a way that I can send the file in simple "Comma Separated" file format.
Thx,
Jatz

Hello - I want to import a text file into a table in a database. The text file looks like this:
00001 06006025 1420 0010 Health Insurance 7
00001 06006025 1425 0010 Life Insurance 7
00001 06006025 1430 0010 Disability 7
00001 06006025 1440 0010 Profit Sharing 7
There is no consistent delimiter. The text field is making things complicated because there is no accurate way to separate the text field from the last number in each line ('7') which needs to be stored in a different column.
Is there a way to insert quotations arond the text string so the quotation mark can be used to distinguish it when importing into excel or a database table. This may work because the starting position of the text string is constant. The ending position would have to be defined as the place where the number appears ('7' in this case). Then, quotations need to be placed around the text string.
Is this possible? Any advice will help tons!!!

Hi,
I have a text file with comma separated values. What I want is a single access query to import this text file into an access table. I know this can be done through import text wizard in access - but what I need is a single query.
I have done the same thing for transferring oracle data to an access table - but for text file to access, I am getting -7778 error.
This is the query I have written
SELECT * into MY_ACCESS_TBL from [odbc;Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};Dbq=MY_TEXT_FILE_PATH;].[MY_TEXT_FILE.txt];
Please help!!
Regards,
Suneesh

I have a small problem with the following command:
Code:
sTabNam = "TmpTab"
sFilNam = "C:Data.Txt"
DoCmd.TransferText TransferType:=acLinkDelim, TableName:=sTmpTab, FileName:=sFilNam, HasFieldNames:=True
The file C:Data.Txt contains 5 columns, separated by a semicolon with the first line containing the names of the columns. The concern is that when the linked table is created, I get a single column with all fields concatenated value. the following style :
Col1;Col2;Col3; : Column name
Val1;Val2;Val3; : Row value
What does do to have columns separated with the corresponding values?

When exporting a table from Access as a text file, it keeps adding .00 to the end of the number format records that I am tying to export.
Why it is doing that and what I need to do to prevent that from happening?

I'm trying to import a pipe delimited text file into a table. I can import the entire table using the following code, but I only get one column of data (the entire data set in one column). If possible I would like to import with the columns defined or if not possible use some code for a function similar to text to columns.
Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "tblTest", "C:Work2015PPVMasterData.txt"

I am linking to a csv file with the following
Me!JobHolder = mID
DoCmd.DeleteObject acTable, "TempTPSCSV"
On Error GoTo Err_Handler
DoCmd.TransferText acLinkDelim, , "TempTPSCSV", Me!FileSelected, True
Which works fine - except that I intermitently get error 3501 - ie file is already open or user needs permissions. Neither or which seems to be true - as on subsequent tries it eventually works OK.
THis seems to happen when file has circe 50k records , not when it has 100 records.
Any ideas whats causing this - and how to get round it.

I am trying to do some different things and want to experiment at this time. You may think this is a C# question, but I have searched everything I can and can't find an answer. Everybody seems to understand it differently and do not give good answers. I have found that Access people are more creative, are willing to take a chance, and will understand the question.
I created a C# project. I created a database with a table in C#. Now, I would like to dump my data from Access into that table. The database is an .sdf file. If I can do this, I may use this as an Access FE BE later on.

hello,
I would like to automate something presently done on a one-by-one basis. Here: a number of text files(containing data) are to be exported into an MS Excel file, with each text file to occupy a different worksheet. Presently, the idea is to use the Data/import external data/import data feature of MS Excel for importing the text files one-by-one into newly created worksheets(within the same workbook).
I would appreciate some advice on how to go about creating a useful MS Access application to achieve the above. I have checked the available Macros in MS Access, but I could not find one to suit my purpose. can anyone pls assist, on how I can get started?
