I have a form linked to a subform by an activity field, Both have a UID field also. I want to store the UID from the main form in each record in the subform. How do I link the two? I've done it before but cannot remember how and have been trying now for AGES! Any help would be much appreciated :)
I have an entry form with a field(combo box) called cboGetCode. I also have a sub form (continuous form) with number of fields, also an entry form. Now, I have added a code behind the cboGetCode AfterUpdate event to populate the result to relevant fields in the main form.

This is working very well.Now, what I would like to do is get code as shown in the cboGetCode field to my sub form lngSCode field.
Go to frmInvoice, and you'll see a Net Total box (txtNetTotal) . It's control source is linked to a textbox in the subform fsubInvoiceDetails2 called txtStocktotal. It basically just pulls up all the costs associated with that InvoiceID.
The reference mechanism is as follows: =[fsubInvoiceDetails2].[Form]![txtStockTotal].Now...sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't! Sometimes i've had to use: =forms!fsubInvoiceDetails2!txtStockTotal.
It seems to be very temperamental at times and i'm not fully confident if this can be explained.By way of note, I use express builder normally to input these statements: I go to Forms > ALL FORMS > fsubInvoiceDetails2 > txtstocktotal.

I am stuck trying to figure out this problem. I have a main form "frm_tirelog_600" which has 4 combo boxes "cboleg",
"cbocar", "cbopos", "cboserial" on it. The first 3 combo boxes are used as criteria on 1 of 3 subforms that I have.
The fourth combo box "cboserial" is used for the criteria in a query on another subform that I have called "frm_mount_600_subform",
which is independant from the main form, I hope I have explained that clearly enough. What I need to be able to do is
have the subform fill in 3 of the fields on it "leg", "car", "pos" with the value from the 3 combo boxes on my main form. I
can get it to show in the fields but not write to the table. I have searched the forum and have not been able to locate anything
that would work and really need any assistance with this. Im not real strong in the coding department which is where I
beleive this could be done.
I have attached a copy of my DB which I hope will better explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated
This is an employee timekeeping database. I have a main form "frmTEMain", with a tab subform named "frmGridsub" with a tab named "Grid" on the lower half. On the tab page is the "frmGridsub" a continuous form that looks like a datasheet, many horizontal rows of data. The subform works correctly with several combo boxes that auto populate. There are many different employees listed in the Grid subform. "Employee" is the name used for the field that holds the unique ID number in the tables that feed the subform. The subform populates another table "dbo_BCRC."
When I click on a row in the subform I want fields to update on the Main Form with Employee, LastName, FirstName, that come from the table that was populated when data was entered into the subform. As the person clicks on the various rows in the subform, the main form fields need to synch with the row.
Do I use "Got Focus" event? Do I need to create another subform and place it on the top half of the Main Form?

I have built a form that holds details of training records. What I want is when a drop down is selected in the main form, that it will populate some of the fields in the subform. I have this working at the moment, that for example, when a certain course is selected, that their modules will appear in the subform. Where my problem arises is that I have a relationship between two tables that I want to appear on the subform, so that details can be filled in on the subform against the list of modules that automatically appear.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a subform which makes a change to a field on the main form. When focus is returned to the main form, the BeforeUpdate and AfterUpdate events fire. Why? I thought from the form's perspective, the subform is just another control.
BTW, I get the same behavior if I modify the field from within the Exit event of the subform control.
In either case, the main form's Dirty event is NOT triggered.
I am trying to link two unrelated sub forms to a main form so I am able to query data all at once and make a report that displays all this data at once. I do not know if this is possible. I will tell you to the best of my ability about what I have going on.
My main form is a shift report. The primary key is a auto number ID. The rest of the fields are date, name, shift, vehicle. etc.
The first sub form is area attendance. Field are as follows auto number ID (primary key), report ID(which comes from the main form, linked), the area, and the area attendance.
The second sub form is the event log. Fields are as follows auto number ID (primary key), report ID(which comes from the main form, linked), time in, and events.
My relationship now is simply primary key from the shift report (the autonumber) going to the first and second subforms report ID's.
Problem is I can not query two distinct subforms like this (I realized).
At the moment i have an exisiting database that was not created by me. It consits of about 7 tables and a main table. Each table has a Primary Key that is a joining field. The Main form is built with subforms and when i enter a number in the primary key filed of the main table it enters that number in all the other primary keys in the other subforms.
i have now tried to create another subform to put into the main form but i cannot get this "link" between the primary fields to work.
can someone please help.
I have a 'main' table with a Project_Number that links all the data in my db together. I have another table that uses that Project_Number as a lookup field to connect that tables data to the main data. I created a 'main' form that has the ability to enter data for the 'main' table. I want to be able to press a button and have the second tables form pop up and add that that specific Project_Number. I added the button and went through the wizard process. I then added the linking info through the builder. It works fine if there is already data entered for the project_number in that specific field. but if the field is empty, the popup window doesn't recognize a project_number and doesn't add it to that record. below is what I am using. The project_number in the 'main' table is text and the Project_Number in the 2nd table in a number since it is a lookup field.

I have a main form that has two subforms, subform1 and subform2, both connected to the main form. When I enter data into a field in subform1 I want subform2 to requery and update to show the calculated results from the new or changed data in subform1.
I found that if I do a refresh it works when changing the data but not when entering a new line of data in subform1. I tried some code in the after update field of on subform1, but cannot seem to get anything to work.
Me.[subform2].Form.Requery
Does not work. It errors and says it cannot recognize subform2 as a field. I have tried a field name on subform2 but I still got the same error.
I have a table called Contact. A contact can be in the db by itself, or it can be tied to a member, or it can be tied to a facilitator or it can be a member AND a facilitator.
So I have a contact Form with all the contact related data and 2 buttons on it. One for Member and one for Facilitator. Each button should load the corresponding form. If the contact is a member (data is already in the member table for the same contactOID) then the form should populate with that information. If the contact is NOT a member, the form should be blank.
But what if I want to add a Contact record, and then add a Member record (tied to that same contact record through contactOID). I would like to be able to open Contact, click create new (>*) and enter the info. Then hit the Member form and enter all the Member info. However, when I do this I get this error:
You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table 'Contact'.
That doesn't make sense, since there is a record in Contact (I just created it). Do I not have the forms or tables linked correctly? Currently the Member table is linked to the Contact table through contactOID (PK in Contact - Autonumber) and there is referential integrity enforced on the relationship.
Firstly, apologies if any of the following seems to denote bad database design or a lack of forward planning. It does, but I've inherited it, so I'm stuck with it (for the time being).
I have a Subform (Training_Records_Sub) linked to a Form (Employee_Training). Both forms get their data from tables of the same name.
Up to now, these have been linked on the field Employee_ID. This has been working fine, as all information stored related to permanent employees, so everyone had an Employee_ID value.
Now, however, I've been informed that the system also needs to store information on temporary and contract staff, neither of whom have an Employee_ID number. In fact - for reasons I fail to understand but which I'm sure make sense to management - there is no unique indentifier stored for any of these people.
The best I can come up with is as follows:
Permanent Personnel - Can be uniquely identifed by Employee_ID and Cost_Center.
Temporary Personnel - Can be uniquely dentified by Last_Name, First_Name and Requisition_Number (this last number can apply to many people). I realise that two people of the same name COULD be hired under the same requisition number, but I've been assured that this won't be allowed.
My problem is in working out how to now link the Form and Subform.
Is there some way to use an 'If...Then..Else' statement? Even in VBA? I've sort of got an idea of what I need, but a day of playing with the code hasn't worked, so I thought I'd try posting.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

i am having a problem linking my subform data to my form data on more that one fitler.
that is, i have a form that contains Last_Name and First_Name and a subform that pull a different set of info form anther table as i scroll through the main form.
on the properties of the subform i have Filter set to "Me.FilterOn="Last_Name".
BUT i need to bring in the filter on Last_Name AND First_Name because of different entries that have the same last name.

Lets say I have Form A and Subform A with the parent-child relationship established that works well. Subform A has a Text box control that is getting display when I include the subform in Form A.
Now, I decided I dont want to include subform A in the Form A. Is there a way for me to show the contents of that Text box control in Form A without attaching the subform in the main form (Form A)?
I read somewhere that to refer a control on a subform, I have to use the code - Forms!mainform!subform.form!control. But this would be in VBA. What is the equivalent of this in a Control Source in the main form?
If I have not explained myself correctly, please do let me know.
To summarize, my question is without including the subform, I want to reference the values of the subform in the mainform. (I have some design necessity for this requirement) Is there a way for this?

I've a form that has 2 subforms - which subform is used is dependant on the selection of a combo box in the main form. After much time spend trying to set this up I am happy to report that this section works fine.
My problem is that when I have completed the subform I am not able to continue tabbing through the rest of the form.

everytime i try to tab from my subform, it creates a new record for that subform. Also, about the subform, the control that links the main form and sub form is unique.
I have now set my Cycle property on my subforms and forms to Current Record. How can I tab from the subform to the main form and vice versa?

thereby the main form refreshes to the value of the subform 2 value

(forms and subs linked by project ID) My project managers want to have the ability to only show project records that are theirs. I can make a filter based on any field in the main form without a problem using code like below.

This is my first post to these forums, however I have leeched so much information off of all you guys that I can't even begin to express my gratitude. So, now, onto my problem...
I'm developing a form for our call centre people to enter information regarding customer returns. Customer orders are placed on one of two systems. In my form, when the person is entering info, I have a drop down box to choose between the two systems, which calls up a respective subform to enter system-specific information. The problem I have is that I can use tab to enter the subform, however I can't use it to get out. There are two records in the subform - order date and order number. After I enter info into these 2 textboxes and try to tab out, it seems that the subform goes to a new record. How can I get my form to tab into the next required field on the main form? Hopefully this makes sense, I just read through it and its kinda questionable. Thank you very much in advance.

I have set up a database for my company which holds records to all the companies that we have as clients. I have created a main form and a subform. The main form is where all the particulars of the companies are entered, and the subform is like a preview window of the companies. By right, when i click on one of the records in the subform, it should reflect in the main form, enabling me to add on additional information using the fields in the main form (i have some features in the main form that should be used to record the informatio), but I just do not know how to go about doing that. is there a way to link the subform to the main form, such that when i click on the past records in the subform, it will reflect on the main form for me to edit? Any help is appreciated.

One employee table with personal details and then tables reflecting costs like, flights, accommodation, visa costs etc.I then created a query(total costs) to add up the total of those tables and then a subform that I inserted in the main form that just display the total over cost.
When I click, new record, everything goes blank which is perfect for me to input a new record but the total of the 1st record( i only have one record at the moment) remains the same.

Having a little problem, have searched the forums but have not been able to find an answer.
I have a single db with 3 tables, artist, gallery and arts.
The main form should show the work details for each artist, i.e. each piece of art they have done. The problem I have is I think I have a link or relationship problem as when I try to create a new record in the arts table, I have a combo box which populates the artist name and gallery name and it should then store these details in the arts table along with the rest of the details I enter but it doesn't.
Each table has an autonumber and there is a one-to-one relationship from arts to artist and arts to gallery.
Can anyone help?
