Linking Two Access Databases In Sharepoint

Aug 22, 2012

I currently have two Access Databases (one with the raw 'data' and the other with the queries and reports that turn it into 'information' - the data database links into the other).

For contingency purposes, I now want to move both Databases onto sharepoint in case I have a system failure on my laptop (I don't have a server I can put these on). When I upload these onto Sharepoint the second database still seems to link to the file on my computer..

Is there a way I can get a Database to link into another database that's held on sharepoint?

Linking Access To Internet Without SharePoint?

Aug 7, 2015

I currently utilize my company's LAN structure to run my Access database from. The LAN structure is abhorrently slow. So slow that often the database crashes upon opening or can take many minutes to complete a menial command.

I realize that connecting my database to the internet would be a better solution (as our internet connection seems to work better). This would allow many users to interact with the database more easily as well. I also realize that SharePoint is the standard method of connecting the database either by linking tables or publishing the database itself. However, my company does not have SharePoint and I am tired of battling with them on obtaining it.

Is there another way to connect/link Access tables to the internet without SharePoint? One that is FREE. I know with Access 2003 you could connect Access to an HTML webpage, but I think Microsoft got rid of that functionality with 2010 and beyond to force users into utilizing SharePoint.

General :: Linking Of Excel Sheets In SharePoint Directly To MS Access

Nov 4, 2013

I have a number of Excel spreadsheets (data sources) hosted on Sharepoint that I need to link to one single Access database.

At first. I cannot link the spreadsheets directly to Access because Access cannot read the spreadsheets on SharePoint to make the links.

Secondly, I can export the spreadsheets from SharePoint to a local folder on my PC and keep them 'refreshed'. The problem with this is that I cannot link Access to the local refreshed spreadsheets because of the (auto) extention .iqy. Access does not know the extention .iqy and hence the two cannot be linked at all.

Thus: How do I link an Excel spreadsheet hosted on SharePoint to MS Access.

Linking Databases

Jun 28, 2006

Hey all!

Okay, so here's a real puzzle, so put on yur thinking caps!

I have two large databases that are twins of eachother, with only a minor difference in a small corner of one table. Even the forms are exactly the same.

I want to split each one from thier tables, so I have databases strictly for [tables], and strictly [forms, queries and reports]...

Then I would like to get rid of one of the copy cat [forms, queries and reports] db's leaving a single [f,q and rpts] db with the ability of ANY user (not a semi-skilled db dev such as me) to have the option at opening, which db to link to for the tables (without going into the tool bar, since it is not visible to them).

Is there an EASY way for a "non-dev" user to choose which [tables db] on an opening form/switchboard?

Live long....prosper.

Linking Forms To Databases

Feb 17, 2006

Extreme novice small business trying to use Access, need some help.

I want to setup a simple payroll system in Access - we have a database of 13 employees already in Access as well as a form we created with fields to enter hours and calculate total due. This may end up being very easy or very hard, but I'd like to know how to, first, set up the form so that it performs the calculations (hourly rate x hours) and then enter this information into another database that will keep track of the weekly payroll...is this far more complicated than I think? Any help/suggestions/points in the right direction are much appreciated.

Linking Data Between Databases

Jul 25, 2013

I have two databases that are used by different teams. There is reluctance for both teams to use the same data base because they are used for different purposes etc.

However, there is quite a bit of information that crosses over. Basically, when an order is logged it goes to Database A (DBA) then they import the customer information such as name, address etc. Then the order is passed to team B who deal with the order, who use Database B (DBB). Currently Team B have to import all of this information again into DBB.

What I want to do is link the two databases so that once something has been added to DBA it becomes available from a drop down list on DBB and team B can then import all of the other necessary information they need.

What would be the best way of linking these up? i thought about trying to create a button in DBB so that when it is selected it asks for an order number which would then search DBA for that number and provide a new record in DBB with the first few fields already completed.

Tables :: Linking Two Databases To Same SQL Table

Oct 14, 2014

We have a case where there is an append query in one database that is is updating another database table. We have moved all the tables to MS-SQL (2008) using the SSMA tool. We were wondering if it would be possible to create a new linked table in the DB where the append query is. Of course we cannot use the SSMA tool again since the table already exists on the MS-SQL server.

Normally when I try to make linked tables from Access, it wants to create a ODBC connection which we are not using.

Access And Sharepoint

Jun 18, 2007

Apologies if this sounds vague , but I have developed a number of reports for an sql database which have selection criteria in certain forms. nothing too sophisticated . The company wants to increase the availability of the reports and the selection forms. Unfortunately Access on everyones PC is not part of the plan.
The concensus in the IT team is that Sharepoint is the route.

Does anyone know what would be required (in the way of programs , expertise etc) to convert or adapt an access database so that the forms and subsequent reports would be available sharepont.

I have had a dig around and I am not sure that our IT boys have got the full picture, I think that Sharepoint is dependent on access but I am not certain.

Hosting Access On Sharepoint

Jun 12, 2015

I would like to publish my access file in sharepoint but I know very little about sharepoint and how to attain a free or testing or trial account. Essentially I would like others to access and edit the file on the web simultaneously.

All youtube sites speaks to how to get started using sharepoint but always assuming that you already have access but this is not my case. I need to know how to acquire sharepoint.

On my computer there is a sharepoint application which I installed but it seems to have no purpose.

Linking From Switchboard To Switchboard On Two Or More Databases

Nov 21, 2006

I am working on a database that will be an addition to an existing one on the company server. However, to make the overall layout not so complex and allow room for other additions in the future, I'd like to keep the databases separate. This will also ensure more efficiency, integrity and troubleshooting overall.

I have the original database with the name of "Cell MFG Screen" that contains a switchboard. I am now creating a db to keep track of manufacturing waste (which will also be on the same server when completed). That switchboard is called "Cell Waste Weight". Again, I want to keep these db's separated from one another as well being able to add future dbs. Now, what my plan is to make up a one db that consists of only a switchboard that will be used as the main switchboard to be able to navigate to other dbs that are located on the server.

Does anyone know how this is done?

Thank you in advance for your help,

~Kilch

Using Access Databases With Web Sites

Oct 20, 2006

Hi,

I curently have a website that has a registration page on it that uses a simple access database that contains a single table with the same fields on as that of the reg. form. What I want to do, in one way or another, is to make some sort of macro that starts once some datails have been submitted to the database using an SQL statement I made within Frontpage, send an email to the registrant telling them what there customer number etc (autonumber in database) and various other welcoming messages etc.
The SQL statement is along the line of INSERT INTO...

Am I thinking along the right lines with a macro or some code or is the access database literally rendered to a table/number of table and thats it?

Cheers folks

Problem With Access Databases

May 5, 2007

Hi,

Recently, i had upgraded my computer with some new hardware, therefore i did a fresh install of win xp sp2.

Now I noticed that after i installed all the usual software including microsoft office 2003, when i am opening a ms access database and i open the first form, most of the fields on the particular form (no matter which form in the database as long as it is the first one) display just a value on most field (i am noticing those fields with text datatype), and i am noticing that the number shown is the same as the autonumber i have for that record. Eventually, closing and re-openining the form will fix the problem. this is happening with all of my access databases, some of which i have been using for ages.

Actually, i have tried running the detect and repair tool from the microsoft access help menu to no avail. I have even tried importing the database objects to a new database but still to no avail. Finally i also tried uninstalling and re-installing microsoft office, and the problem is still persisting.

Any idea what might be going on, and hopefully a resolution to sort out this nightmare?

Thank you very much all for your attention.

Merging Two Different Access Databases

Jul 22, 2006

Hi,

I've asked this on a few other websites with limited or no success.

this is from one db. this table originally had about 20-30 different fields,

WarehouseNum ItemNum load_date Shipped
101 31 6/26/2006 200
101 31 6/27/2006 180
101 338 6/26/2006 162
101 338 6/27/2006 357

this table is from another db. Notice how WarehouseNum is '9' instead of '1' and itemNum is '000'. This is just one of many impediments I face. As well, none of the table fields are the same, I changed them here to make it easier to work with.

SupplierNum ItemNum WarehouseNum PlannedDelDate DeliveredQty
869747 00031 901 6/26/2006 250
869747 00031 901 6/27/2006 300
869747 00338 901 6/26/2006 490
869747 00338 901 6/27/2006 490

The goal here is to query the two simultaneously, perhaps with linked tables, type in an ItemNum using a parameter and know for instance that on the 26th, we received 250 item31 and shipped 200 for a remaining balance of 50. The 50 is what I'm after. Basically, my company uses one program for sales and another for purchasing and absolutely nothing for inventory management. I started with this company about 3 weeks ago and unless i can implement some kind of temporary solution, it will drive me insane.

Advice? Best approach? As well, this db will use data on two different servers
Thanks for the help.
As well, my access experience is limited and our company I.T. is seriously backlogged, besides which, I would like to learn how to do this myself.
Thanks again

Running Access Against Multiple Databases - DEV/UAT/PRD

Feb 21, 2007

Access 2003

I've inherited an Access Application which has
(1) a number of linked tables that are used to seed the underlying SQL Server database.

This system has been set up and is working in Development. My task is to move it to UAT but with regards to point (1) above I can't see any alternative but to copy the Access Database, create a new System DSN and re-import the External Data from the new DSN. What I'd like to do is use the same Access Database to point towards DEV or UAT or PRD. Is this possible to do this or am I stuck with maintaining 3 different Access Databases ?

I am a developer with many years of experience but my Access knowledge is limited so any pointers would be helpful.

Access Databases Won't Open On A Workstation

Feb 22, 2008

I'm having a problem on a workstation that I've always used to create databases in Access. When I open any of my saved .mdb's I get a the error "end query expression" with the table name. The message gives me the option to click OK or Help and Help refers to "<Message> in query expression <expression>. (Error 3075)".

I've copied the .mdb's to another PC with Access installed and they open with no problem and I've removed and reinstalled Access on the problematic PC but still the same problem.

Also, I have a UPS Worldship shipping application that uses an Access database and when it opens it gives me a Micrsoft Visual C++ runtime error then closes, which may or may not be related.

I get the sense that something is corrupted in either Access or Windows XP but I'm not sure where else to look.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Stuart
