List Records By Desired Groups Instead Of Sort

Data in table “tblEmployees”:
EmpName GroupNum

Dan Group3
Cal Group2
With sample table above, can I write a query in Access that lists the data by GroupNum based on my criteria, say Group2 1st, then Group3, then Group1? Basically, how do I make the result show:
Sam Group2
Hal Group2
Cal Group2
Dan Group3
Jon Group1
Tom Group1
Bob Group1

In my table, a column contains different fac# like fac-0086, fac-6200, and fac-0049 (they can be duplicated). These fac# can be categorized into 4 groups. Each week I need to load a list of records from spreadsheets into my cumulative table. The original spreadsheets have fac# but no group code. If I want to group the records by their fac#, how should I deal with it?

Hi, as ever, am sure this is simple...
I have a field in a table which is a code. This code is used to allocate records to certain groups. I want to run a query which then returns the records, grouped by code and displayed in ORDER of the biggest group. So if there are 20 records with Code A and 15 with Code B and 67 with Code C the Code C records should come first, then B, then A.
Can anyone help???

I created a subform that displays the records of a select query after selecting the desired data from a single combo box (for instructors name) and then using an OpenQuery macro attached to a button.
Only 1 record is displayed in the subform each time I hit the button. If I look at the query return there is no change. However, if I close the query and select a new instructors name, although I only get one record in the subform, the query when opened shows all the correct records.
What is wrong with my macro/subform?

Is it possible to create a query that will display the top x (say 10) records for each code in a set?
The record set that I have includes a country id and some quantity information. In short the record looks something like
Country Code (approx 30)
Service Code (approx 20)
Qty
What I would like to do is to aggregate all instances of a service at country level and provide a sum of the service count. Then, I am only interested in the top x services (biggest quantity) and am looking for query output along the lines of
Country1, Service Ranked 1 , Qty
Country1, Service Ranked 2 , Qty
...
Country1, Service Ranked 10 , Qty
Country2, Service Ranked 1 , Qty
Country2, Service Ranked 2 , Qty
...
Country2, Service Ranked 10 , Qty
down to CountryX, Service Ranked 10, Qty
Can anyone help me here, I have tried top x etc. to no avail

i am making a contacts database. I have a table to hold the names and addresses of 700 people. I have another table holding the names of the mailing groups those 700 people can be in. One person can be in multiple mailing groups.
i made another table, and i typed in all the people and the multipe groups they were in. For example, a there would be seven records for a person if they belonged to seven groups
then i made a query relating that table to the addresses table. I want to be able to open forms to show an individual group, and cycle through the people in that group only.
i can do this, but access wont let me edit any of the records.
is there somthing wrong with my relationships? how do i tell accesss to allow records be in multiple groups?

There are thousands of records, unique by the Prod WH combination, across 5 districts. What I want is to pull the (highest) Top 3 Aged Inv$ values (Prod WH) for Each district.

I have a database with around 5083 records and I am trying to find the three most common numbers called in any one record such as 5 22 and 39 has been called together 50 times
Here is the structure # 1 through 5 is a number between 1 and 39 but never duplicated in same record

Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to have several combo "boxes" in one form. The form is based on one table. In the table there are several fields which use a look-up (combo) drop down box to choose from: Type, Description, Manufacturer and Location.
In the form I want a combo box for Type, to bring up specific records in a subform, then I want a combo box for Description to bring up another set of records (within that Type of equipment) and a third combo box for Location to bring up all equipment within that location.
When I have tried to set this up - it changes some of the data in the in the subform - which changes it in the underlying table. If it set the form to open in New Record, then nothing shows up in the drop down box. Is there some If, THen code I could use to make it look first in the Type, then in the Description field, then close those out and look for the set of records that match in the location field?
Does that make sense?
I know how to manipulate in MSAccess templates, etc., but I don't know much about the underlying codes.

Hello there!
This is my very first post on this forum. I started to work with Acces and SQL only two weeks ago, so my questions probably are newbie-stuff, but please bare with me and please help me anyway :-)
In my form I've inserted a list that shows data from one of my tables. The posts are ordered by 'ID' (and I know how to change this). But I want to make a button just right of it, that, when it's clicked, sorts the list by 'first name' instead.
How do I make such one???

Ok what I have is a List box with four rows. (Name, Assignment, Location, Description) These are all labeled with a frame at the top that when that frame is selected that row is put into alphabetical order.
The next thing I have is a combo box which also sorts the List box by "major location". The combo box has the following (All, Fort Mills, Corporate, Pequot Lakes, Savage, Retail) When one of those is selected the location row then shows only one of the following locations and the others are removed.
Here is where the problem comes into place. I want to be able to select a major location, then be able to sort with the frame. When I select a major location, and then click on the frame, lets say "Name" the list resets back to everything from that table and not just that certain "Major Location" that I have selected. I need to sort whatever is selected in that "Major Location" by whatever is selected in that frame. thanks for any help, I know its a hard one.

I need to manage a list of, in this case "medications", with this list the most common "meds" are on the top of the list. there will be at times new "meds" added that should be at the top of the list. I want to create a unbound box that will let me drag the "meds" up or down in the list. The best emample i know of is the way you can set the "Tab" fields on a form to move the tabs stops.

Hey guys,
OK, your gonna have to bare with me a little bit as its hard to explain and if any VB is given please add a few annotations as I have to explain everything i do in a report (doest have to be too detailed, just to make the code understandable :) ) and if it needs better clarification feel free to ask :), but basically, I have the following relationship set up:

At the moment, because of the way it is set up, I cannot create a record in the transactions table unless an income record is given for it (because tb_income (one) to tbl_transactions (many)) but the way I want to work is as follows:
If you have a look at the tables tbl_transactions and tbl_income and their link. The way I want the system to work is when a new transaction is made, a new income record in the "tbl_income" table would be made with the date (in tbl_income) being the date at that particular time and all transactions created on the same date would all go in the subdatasheet for that one record created for that date; and if another transaction is made on an alternate date (say 00:00am of the next day) another income record would be created automatically with the date being of that particular day etc.
My other problem im facing is that everytime there is a transaction created, I want the stock level(s) field of products in that particular transaction to be decreased by the quantity purchased of that product but i have no idea how to do so
Any help?

Ok, I am a noob at reports and did a search on this. My searching DID NOT HELP ME! I thought I would make that clear :D Maybe someone can tell me what to look at for this issue.
I need to take one report, allow the users to easily use a dropdown or listbox on a form to Sort and Group many fields of data. To recap: The user will click on name in the list and it will sort report by name. Also I need them to be able to select up to three sort criterias.
EX: Sort by Name then LastName then Company
Please guide me to the answer. Thanks.

Here is my issue. In a table with an Auto Number index some records have been deleted. I have been able to recreate them along with their original auto number. The problem is that I do not know how to append these records forcing the original auto number. I have tried changing the auto number field to a number field in the table, this works except I cannot change it back to auto number.
I am sure I’m not the first with this question or issue. I did search through a couple hundred entries about auto number before I posted this question.

I am trying to put together a form where employees will be entering maintenance information into my database. One of the requirements for this data is that when they perform repair work on an asset, they have to list a problem, cause and remedy. These are codes that are specific to each asset.
The closest thing I can think of to what I am trying to acheive is the selectors on car search websites. You select a MAKE, and then the MODEL list is narrowed down based on that, then you pick the TRIM, which is narrowed down based on the model selection. I have an Excel spreadsheet of the Assets(Failure Class), Problems, Causes, and Remedies...I'm just not sure how to put this into Access to get the desired output. I have attached a sample of the Excel spreadsheet for illustration.
I believe I'm going to have to put each of the columns in a seperate table and use relationships..but I'm not sure about that.

I have a cbo which filters records to a listbox. In the after update event of the cbo I have the following code:

mySelectedName = Me.[cboname]
mySQL = "select LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, FROM Master WHERE [USER] = '" & mySelectedName & "';"
Me.[lstbox].RowSource = mySQL
Master is my table.
cboname is the cbobox I use to run the code
USER is a table which gives the data to my cbo.
Is there a way I can sort data in the listbox by LASTNAME (Ascending).

How I can save a Query result with a desired name. I use the following simple code.
Code:
SELECT * INTO Table
FROM Query;
Now the results will be saved in "Table" but I want acces to ask me for what to call the table when the query is runned. Is that possible with a query?

I have a table called tblObligMstr. I have a form called frmAmendRecord that is based (bound) on tblObligMstr - three of the fields are ID, IntControlNr, and Amend.
There is also a subform named tblObligMstrSubform. The Link Master and Link Child for the subform fields is IntControlNr. So the subform shows all of the records that have a specific IntControlNr. The form shows the data associated with the first record with a specific IntControlNr
Here is the problem -
The purpose of the form is to show the data for the last record (not the first) in the subform list of records. Certain data on the form can be edited, and then the edited form needs to be saved as a new record in tblObligMstr.

I created my first RDB input form and it works fine. In the subform new records are created at the bottom row. The subform has a date field. The main and sub forms are based on tables.
When I open the input form I would like to see the subform records sorted by the date field but I don't know where to look for help on that. Can somebody point me in the right direction?
I am including my form in design layout just in case it will help.

I am using Access 2007.I have a report that has 2 subreports within it.One of the sub reports input is from a table (Work Order Parts) whose records have a field called "DisplayOrder". This is a numeric field that I use to enable the user to specify the exact order that they want the records to be displayed in a form or report...well that's the plan anyway.
I can't seem to get the subreport to sort on the "DisplayOrder" field.
I have tried to set the Property value "Display Order" to "[Workorder Parts].DisplayOrder" but this doesn't seem to make a difference. The "Order By on Load" is set to "Yes".
Here is the "Record Source" value : SELECT DISTINCTROW [Workorder Parts].*, Parts.PartName, [Workorder Parts].Notes FROM Parts INNER JOIN [Workorder Parts] ON Parts.PartID = [Workorder Parts].PartID;
What am I doing wrong?
