Lookup Box List Box ??

Dec 1, 2006

First time user out here and I thought I already posted this question but cannot see where.

I have a form I created (called Employee) that has a subform in it (called voucher) which has a subform in (called aduitee).

When I am in the auditee subform I need to indicate from a list of over 1,800 records (table called companies) who the auditor audited that month....which could be one of several from the list.

Not sure how to do this in my auditee subform....I've not worked with this before, can anyone walk me through this once?

Lookup Wizard List Visibility?

As one is typing in a field with a lookup wizard - dropdown list - is there anyway to see the list without clicking on the down arrow? Perhaps there is a choice somewhere in the program where dropdown menus for the lookup wizard can be made visible?

Combo Shows 0 For Value List Lookup On New Record

Jun 6, 2005

I have a table with some combo selections with row source No;Yes, bound column 1, column count 1, and default value "No", limit to list set to yes, required = yes, allow zero length = no.

When I create a new record though, all of the combos show 0, and I have to select No or Yes manually. The requirement is that No is the default value..

Lots of thanks in advance,

I've managed to use the lookup wizard to show me two fields in the drop down list, first name and last name, but when i select a record I can only see the first name in the cell, not both.

Is there a way to display them both together?

Forms :: Conditional Formatting On A Lookup Field List

Mar 5, 2014

My table fields are as follows:

1. Issued? (This is a lookup field with the following lists "Yes"; "No"; "NA")
2. IssueDate

I created a subform bound to the table.I wish to accomplish the following on the form:

1. If "No" is selected on the [Issued?] field, I want the [IssueDate] to gray out.
2. If "Yes" is selected, I want [IssueDate] to be required.

I set Conditional Formatting as follows:

Expression is ([Issued?]="No"), condition is disabled.

When I tested it, [IssueDate] grayed out when "No" was selected. However, when I select "Yes", it still remained grayed out.

Tables :: How To Design Price List Table (Lookup)

Mar 25, 2013

I have to design a price list table which is currently done in Excel.

The table looks like this :

[Headers]

Product Group | Layers | (this are quantity bands) 0-100 | 101-500 | 501-1000| etc
Test1 | 2 | £10(normal) £9(special)

The quantity band currently is fixed to 5 bands but would need to be flexible. There are also 2 prices for each of the quantity band (normal/special)

At the moment my table design looks like this:

ID
fkSupplierID
fkProductGroupID
txtLayers (value list)
intMinQty
intMaxQty
curNormalPrice
curSpecialPrice

This works quite well with the query to return price based on product group, layer and order qty. However I am not very sure if this is the best way to design this. I am just thinking about maintenance - for example when the supplier puts in a price change or when the quantity band changes. The current format (quantity band) is based on a major supplier but in the future we would like to adopt this for any supplier.

Lookup Table - How To Make More Than 1 Field From Query Appear In The List

Dec 1, 2014

In Access, when using Look Up function, Table/Query, how do I make more than 1 field from the query appear in the drop down list?I will be doing the same thing for students and some other tables. But for this example I am only wanting to show instructors first and last name and their ID number in the drop down.

I am using

Code:
SELECT instructors.first, instructors.last, instructors.ID FROM instructors;
in my Classes table.

What am I doing wrong?

I would like for it to show their instructor first and last name but actually put the ID in the field as I will be using that key for various relationship based functions. Show the first and last name to the person who will be using the database, but actually put the ID in the field so I can use it as a common field across other tables.

General :: Multi Lookup List - Using A Form As Input For Query

Sep 29, 2014

I am having trouble using a form as input for a query. The form uses multi select list boxes, with then intention being that if I select multiple fields then only records which include those fields will show (not only fields that contain those and no others).

I also have successfully worked up some keyword searches that I would like to have run on the same query. So say I want to search for two values in my list box, and it also needs to include keyword X... how would I run these all together, or is it possible?The form is "EVR Search Form"..The query is "EVR Query - Trending Filters" and I've also made a copy to test on, "Copy EVR Query - Trending Filters"

General :: Click On List Lookup Employee / Select ID And Then Form Will Fill In Rest

Nov 6, 2012

I have a form, "Update Employee Information" that allows me to navigate through records and change data like name, adress, etc. I would like to know how to create list (or autofill) so that it won't take long before finding an employee.For example: I have a Employee ID and would like to search on that so the form can fill in the rest of my information. I have thought of two methods that I like:

(1) Click on a list "Lookup Employee", select ID and then the form will fill in the rest

(2) Without clicking a link, typing in the ID in the form and the rest of the data gets filled in.

LookUp Tables For Dynamic Set Of Attributes: Set A Pointer Or Use A Generic LookUp?

Jul 24, 2007

I'm wrestling with the issues; in other threads, it became apparent that because I could not know ahead of time what I will need to know about a given entity, I will use a table to enumerate attributes that is applicable for a given entity.

However, the stumper is that what if an attribute should conform to a set list of values? Since they are dynamic, I would have problem predicting what I will need to be able to lookup, and am even don't know whether I will need a one-many lookup or many-many lookup.

I thought that generic lookup table with a table listing "classes" of lookup would allow me to have one big generic lookup table while using "classes" to act like virtual tables so I can then set the query to appropriate "class" to return just right set of values.

But as I thought about it, I ran into some issues which is pulling me toward the crazy idea that I should have freestanding tables, and use a field in tblAttribute to give me the table's name so I'd know which free-standing table it points to, and have the necessary key to lookup the values within that table.

Even though my gut instincts tell me that I shouldn't be going against the conventions of database design (who the frick goes around creating free-standing lookups?!?), I'm simply not sure how I can use a generic lookup table to hold all information.

For example, suppose I was given a list of values that has its own categories. Since the former design allows only for two level (lookup and lookupclass), where am I to insert that extra level?

Furthermore, I found myself needing a set of virtual keys to reference a certain "class" of lookups for report purposes. That means I need an extra field in my lookup table than I originally anticipates. What if I find myself needing one more field that just won't fit the generic lookup table?

So does anyone have suggestions on how we would create a placeholder for a lookup table that will be made just in time?

Filtering Lookup Value Based On Other Lookup Values

Jul 27, 2015

I have three large source tables imported into my database. I have created queries to retrieve relevant values from fields in each source table which feeds into my form. Each field on my form that is connected to the relevant query is a lookup field. For example, one field called "Supplier_Name" another called "Supplier_Code" and a third called "Route_Number".

Needless to say each of my lookup fields are very long. I am trying to filter my search based upon the selection from the previous Lookup field. How I can filter a lookup field's value based upon the previous lookup field selection? Each Supplier has a code and assign route(s) and I have already established these relationships.

Tables :: Lookup Field Using Another Multi Value Lookup Field As Data Source

Nov 23, 2012

how to do a particular thing in Access 2010 (I don't even know if it is possible).

I have a table named PRODUCTS:
ID_PRODUCT (primary key, autonumber long integer)
ALLOWED_OPTIONS (multi value text lookup field: "Option 1";"Option 2";...;"Option 9")

So I can store, for each different product, none, one, or more options to let the customers choose from.

I have a table named ORDERS:
ID_ORDER (primary key, autonumber long integer)
FK_CUSTOMER (foreign key, linked to the primary key of a CUSTOMERS table; represents the customer that places the order.)
FK_PRODUCT (foreign key, linked to PRODUCTS.ID_PRODUCT; represents the product that the customer has choosen)
CHOOSEN_OPTION (lookup text field; the customer must choose ONE option among those allowed for the product he has ordered)

The problem is that I would like the CHOOSEN_OPTION field to show as a combobox, listing the values stored into PRODUCTS.ALLOWED_OPTIONS, so that when a customer buys a product, he can choose only among the options allowed by that particular product.How can I manage a multi value field to populate a combobox, in which every item stays on its line? If I use, as a query to populate the combobox:

select [PRODUCTS].[ALLOWED_OPTIONS]
from PRODUCTS
where [PRODUCTS].[ID_PRODUCT]=[FK_PRODUCT]

I obtain an empty combobox.If I refer to the last field as [ORDERS].[FK_PRODUCT], Access asks me to type a value for "[ORDERS].[FK_PRODUCT]", treating it as an unknown parameter.I think that the problem is that when the combobox expands, the record is not committed yet, so FK_PRODUCT is unknown (NULL?). But this happens even if I commit the record typing something in FK_PRODUCT and then I re-enter the record and I expand the CHOOSEN_OPTION combobox, that is still empy although FK_PRODUCT exists, now.Is there a particular syntax to refer to a field in a record not committed yet (something like "THIS." or "ME.")?

Queries :: Using Variable In A List Field Query - Getting Complete List On Initial View

Mar 28, 2014

In my access form I provide the user a list of locations from various countries in a listbox . But the list is too long so I provide him a combobox for selecting a country. Selecting the country should update the listbox showing only the locations in that specific country.

So my SELECT from the listbox must cover the unselected state and show all entries and when a country is selected it must narrow the selection.

I tried to get this happen with the following SELECT statement containing a variable. Choosing a country in the Combobox results in a change of the variable and in a requery. This works after the first country is selected and for each country change, but the initial list is empty.

VBA in the loadform
'Application.TempVars.Add "varcountryselect", "*"
SELECT in the listbox "lstlocationsperproject"
SELECT tbllocations.locationID, tbllocations.country, tbllocations.localstreet, tbllocations.localcity FROM tbllocations WHERE ((tbllocations.country) Like [TempVar]![varcountryselect]);

VBA in the combobox
Application.TempVars("varcountryselect") = [Form]![kombcountryselect].Column(0)
Me.lstlocationsperproject.Requery

The values in [kombcountryselect].Column(0) are texts like "SPAIN", "MEXICO", etc.

Any hints, how I have to use the * for getting the complete list on the initial view ?

Create A Randomise List From A Table And Save The List For Each Month

Dec 14, 2006

Hi All a newbie here so any help will be appreciated,

sorry for the long post but trying to give you all the information you might need.

I wrote a basic access database for my Church to aid in a paperwork audit for a charity food drop which we do monthly to give free food to the needy.

But each month it gets harder to find out who was in line first so I thought with all your help we may be able to randomize the names each month in a different order as to avoid confusion and also avoid people waiting in line as they turn up at 5am and we don't start until 9am.

So if this will work in access they can all come for 9am

I don't mind creating a new database and adding the additional information, if that's what it would take.

My Background I have created basic databases from scratch not using wizards, But I don't know much about code or how to implement it so any help in where code goes it would be very much appreciated.

Database details (Microsoft Access 2002 version)

Table Name = details
Field name = ID (auto-generated)
Field name = FirstName (text)
Field name = Surname (text)

If possible it would be nice to keep a record of the randomized lists (in the database somewhere ?) each month in case anyone wants to see it or disputes the lists, where I can just create a report to show the details.

There will be approximately 90 to 125 names.

Thank you in advance for all your help in this matter

Reports :: Exclude Individuals From False List If They Are In True List

Jul 15, 2013

I have created my tables and form and am now trying to run reports to organize the data. I have figured out how to group the individuals by group and treatment, but can't figure out how exclude individuals from the final list if they are already in another. As background, some of the individuals are eventually excluded from the experiment, though I keep the initial data. When the exclude individual checkbox is checked ("True" on the report) I do not want the individual to be listed in the "False" list, even though there are entries for that individual when that checkbox wasn't checked (when it was "True"). This is so I can get an idea of the current totals in each group.

Implant Period
>Treatment
>>Exclude individual?
>>>Individual ID

I feel like this should be a fairly simple task, but I cannot figure it out... Maybe there is coding to exclude individuals from the "False" list if they are already listed in the "True" list?

Use Multi-select List Box To Filter A Report With Two List Boxes

Nov 20, 2013

Allen Browne's "Use a multi-select list box to filter a report" solution, in particularly with two multi-select list boxes? The code works fine for me for either box so long as I code it for one box alone. Combining the two into one code results in a type mismatch error. I'm trying to use the code to pass the contents of both multi-select boxes as Where conditions to a report. Both boxes are based on number fields. To try to isolate the problem, I've removed Allen's setDescription and OpenArgs conditions. We're unfortunately still on Access 2003 as the company desires to squeeze every dime by using until end-of-life next year.

Code:
Private Sub cmdPreview_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Handler
'Purpose: Open the report filtered to the items selected in the list box.
Dim varItem As Variant 'Selected items

[Code] .....

Queries :: Return List Of Records From Original List

Apr 23, 2013

I'm looking to move an excel sheet to access because the row counts are too much.The main thing it does is compare the supplied data against a list I hold in the sheet.There are not duplicate records, however..Some data is a direct lookup for a full match, but much of it is a count to see how many records contain a certain string.

I have 500 keywords which have a countif function in using wildcards.I need to create a query/report which will return a list of records from the original list which contains each keyword featured and how many times it features.I was going to do it in PHPmysql but the time it took to parse a million records for every keyword made it pointless.

eg:
keywords:
look
billy
magic

list:
"have a look and see"
"spanish dave"
"who is billy brag"
"looky looky I go hooky"
"who's the man from argentina"
"could it be magic now"

my spreadsheet would return a 1 next to ""billy" and "magic" and would put a 2 next to "look".

the sheet has the keyword in each row and next to the column:
=COUNTIF(list,CONCATENATE("*@",B13))
where "list" is the external data.

Select From List BOX Of List Of Choices And Store This Into A Table

Aug 21, 2013

I created a form and created on it a list box which is a query that grabs certain number of fields from different tables. I would like the user to select from this list box of a choice and then store their selection into a table.This list box has three fields, but it needs to store the id rather than the item, the user would see the name of the item but the id of the item would be store into another table, called bid. It store all these three fields when a user selection one of the item from the list.

List Table, Limiting Field List..

Oct 14, 2006

Okay,

The subject is probably confusing but I'll try to explain.
Setup:

Table1
FieldID = Number
FieldName = Text

Table2
FieldID = Number
FieldName = Text
T1_ID = Number

Relationship
Table1.FieldID 1-> * Table2.T1_ID (one to many)

Now, I'm trying to create a 3rd table that has field populated by Table1 and a field populated by Table2 but I want to limit the field populated by table2 by what is selected in the field populated by table1.
Table1:

1st
2nd
3rd
4th

Table2:

1st,January
1st,February
1st,March
2nd,April
2nd,May
2nd,June
3rd,July
3rd,August
3rd,September
4th,October
4th,November
4th,December

Table3:
Table1Field = Number, ComboBox-Source: Table1, BoundColumn=1
Table2Field = Number, ComboBox-Source: Table2, BoundColumn=1

If Table1Field = 1st then
Table2Field Will only allow January, February, or March as selections, since ONLY they are a member of the "1sr" group via the table1 list.

Is this possible, or do i have to do some run-time checking or something?
Thanks
Jaeden "Sifo Dyas" al'Raec Ruiner
