Lost Menus In Access... No View Or Tools After I Messed With Tools/Startup

Dec 17, 2004

I wanted a Switchboard page in Access to open automatically when the database was opened. I've done that but, as I did it, while in the Tools/Startup to set Display Form Page (in this case a switchboard page but it's not opening full screen and I ow have no way of editing anything), I stupidly de-selected the options there...
Display database window, Display status bar, Allow built in tool bars allow toolbar/menu changes.

Now I have lost the tools Menu, the View Menu and others (where one sees, File, View etc at the top of the window) and I can't work out how to get them out. I can no longer view my Access pages in Design View so I can't amend the any pages.

Can anyone tell me how to get my View and Tools menus back on my Access app window?? It's a bit of an emergency... been up all night and have to hand this in as coursework at uni in about 3 hours and I've screwed up right at the end and can't do the last couple of things before putting it on a CD for my tutor to mark.

Help!

I'd also like to know how to get it to open the first form at full screen.

Thanks.
Ceri

Toolbars: View, Tools, Startup Menu

Aug 29, 2007

Hello,
I've read most of the General category on Toolbars and Startup Menus, but still can't figure this out. I have no VIEW or TOOLS on my toolbar, so I can't get to the startup menu, toolbars, or anything else. When I go to Customize, one option is Built-in Menus. When I try to drag the VIEW or the TOOLS to the menu bar, it won't happen. I have tried the Shift trick, but it did not work either. Can someone help me?

Extra Tools In Access XP

Mar 8, 2008

Although I have been using access for a year or two (self taught) I have only recently noticed that the form toolbox (the one with combo boxes and buttons etc on it) appears to have a library of procedure calls for calendars and all sorts of things sitting there waiting to be used. Is there a list somewhere of what all this lot does? I have been playing with a couple of date pickers but I don't particularly want to go through all of the rest to see what they do or if they would be useful.

Thanks

No Tools Menu...?

Aug 4, 2005

I was just editing my Access database (stored on the intranet) when a message popped up saying "Disk or network error".

I clicked the only option ("ok") and closed the DB. When I reopened it, it said someone else was viewing it and I only had read permissions. I close it again, and see that in the directory where my .mdb file is stored I have the .ldb file remaining even though it isn't open.

I restart my machine, and try and open it again. I have to compact and repair the DB at Access' suggestion, yet now I only seem to have limited functionality....??

I.e. there is no Tools menu, I can't right click on forms or tables to choose Design View (although if I highlight them in the database pane and click the BUTTON for Design View I am able to proceed)....

What's going on?!!

I've tried going to File > Open and in the little arrow on the Open button choosing "Open Exclusive", but it opens and does the same thing as above...!!

I've checked a different database in Access, and I don't seem to have gone potty, in every other one I'm able to see the Tools menu, etc...?

Anyone got any clues as to how I can get my lovely database back on its feet and functioning properly?

Allow Built-in Tools Bars

Aug 2, 2007

Hello,

I created a database, and was trying to get the welcome form, to load full screen. So I unchecked all Menu bar and Shortcut bar (allow)

So I now have locked my self out.

Any ideas, I once remember something like ctrl while opening the database, but that does not fix it.

Thanks,

Can I Set Tools/Options/Edit-Find/Confirm In VBA?

Jun 9, 2006

Hi Guys & Gals,

I have a report that runs a number of queries via a macro in the on open property. These queries populate a table used in the report. The on close property runs a query to clear the table contents.

When a user ran this, he had a flurry of warning notices which I tracked down to the Confirm settings in the tools/options/edit find tab.

Is is possible to set these using vba?

I guess that this could be achieved using send keys, but this would probably be a bit clumsy - to say the least.

Can it be done so that the settings are changed only for the current session so that users have the original settings?

Any thoughts welcome.

Regards,

Keith.

Hidden Menus On Startup - How To Unhide

Jul 23, 2007

Hello,

I have hidden most of the menu bars for my database (from the tools.. startup.. menu) and I dont have a backup of my latest database (yes, I know, stupid.) The only menus I have are File, Edit, Insert, Records, Window and Help. The database window is also not displayed.

How do I get them back..? My database is set to load a form on startup, all data is accessed via a set of forms linked from the first. I cant access the tables, design view, anything. I feel like such a muppet...

How Do You Undo Lost Shortcut Menus?

Jan 7, 2008

Hi everyone! Well, I goofed... I was trying to figure out how cause access to launch a switchboard I made and NOT launch the regular shortcut bars or database window. Well, fortunately the help file told me I could change that in tools...startup options...

I found it, and it worked great, except I can't get back into my regular shortcut menu features, including the startup options themselves to reverse it. I did figure out I could reclaim the database window by pushing f11, but sadly have been unable to figure out how to get to my shortcut menus and back into startup options. Anyone know how I can get back in?

Next time I'll have to make a copy before doing that...

General :: Bypass Shift Key To Disable Ribbon And All Menus At Startup

May 4, 2014

I am able to bypass the shift key so I can disable ribbon and all menus at startup.

But the issue I have is anytime someone makes a copy of the database or it is their first time opening it they get prompted with the security warning:

"Security Warning - some active content has been disabled, click here to enable"

and it gives them complete access to see the back end of the database because while that warning message is popped up ... before they click "enable" they can go do anything in the database including see tables, data, and vba.

Once they click "enable content" that first time the bypass takes effect and the ribbon and all menus disappear, but if they dont click it they can navigate all around the db

how can i stop that?

Access 2007 And Menus

Feb 26, 2008

Hi all,

After searching through the "search" field, I realize lots of us are having problems with the menu's in access 2007.

After converting my 2003 DB to 2007, my menus are still there, but displayes as Add-ins instead of as the menu bar. I can't find any options to change during the conversion.
I have tried importing my Logon window with the options "menus and icons" clicked, but this didn't change anything.
If I open the DB in 2003 Format, then go to the options in Access 2007 I can choose the menubar, but if I convert to 2007, the menubar is only available as add-ins. Is there any way round this?

Appreciate any help - it is so time consuming trying to figure this out - and I seem to go round in circles, ticking options on and off... perhaps some dear soul has already found the answer!

Menus In Access 2003

Mar 22, 2008

Hi, I have hidden all the menus and added one of my own custom menus to a DB that I was creating. That DB has been completed. Now when I open a blank DB to commence again, I have the same hidden menues and my one custom menu. Is there away in Access 2003 that I can replace the template, for example, MS Excel and Word have .dot and personal.xls. Is there an easy way to bring them all back. I checked in startup for a restore defaults, however this does not work. Any ideas. Garry

How Do I Fix A Messed Up Auto Number?

Jan 4, 2008

I have an ID field set as auto number, just because I need something for a key and all other data is not unique.

The problem is that it is not incrementing properly. I have 121621 in the autonumber field in the last record.

When making a new record, it is using 105347, which obviously already exists, and is causing problems.

I have already done a compact and repair which is supposed to fix this, but it has not. Is there anything else that I can do?

All Menus & Toolbars Missing In Access

Nov 14, 2006

I started access today and all my icons and menus are gone from the interface. I am forced to right click on all my queries and tables to perform any action. All I have at the top of my window is the usual "Microsoft Access" caption. Absolutely nothing else. Other than that, Access is fully functional provided I can use the right click commands. Has anyone encountered this? Help!
