Hi
I have a database that currently has security in place so that users input their own usernames and passwords to access the database. The users have recently been added to a windows 2000 server and I want to be able to use their windows 2000 server logon credentials to provide them with automatic access to the database. Is there anyone out there who knows how to set this up? It is a rather urgent request if you could get back to me either on this forum or via email
chris@ctbjs.co.uk
many thanks

Hello all,
I'm trying to set up an access 2000 .adp project connecting to a SQL server 2005 database. I can set up the connection ok, but once I have completed the setup process, I can the following error messages if I try to creat any new database objects:
If I try to create a new object (a view or table etc), Access tells me that:
'I do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. your changes will not be saved.'
If it's a view, I then get the following message:
'The Visual Database Tools within Visual Studio 6 and Access 2000 do not support some new features of SQL Server 2000. Because you are manipulating an object in a SQL Server 2000 database, some operations will be unavailable to you. In rare cases, you might not be able to save the database object you modified. In other cases, you will be able to save the object, but its previously existing settings for features new to SQL Server 2000 will be lost. In most of these cases, you will be warned if the Save operation will eliminate existing settings or property values.
For a complete description of the interaction between SQL Server 2000 and Visual Database Tools within Visual Studio 6 or Access 2000, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q266277, "Using Visual Studio 6 and Access 2000 Visual Database Tools with SQL Server 2000." Knowledge Base articles are available in the MSDN Library Visual Studio documentation or at http://support.microsoft.com/support/.'
To supress this message next time you design a SQL Server 2000 object from Visual Studio 6 or Access 2000, check the following box.
Finally, I get the following error.
'You are connected to a version of sql server newer than sql server 2000. save will be disabled'
Obviously I want to be able to creat and save new objects.
Can anyone help? I've sone some searches on the MS support site, but have not found anything that appears to be relevant.
Thanks,
Mo

Hi all,
having some serious troubles with a MS Access 2000 project running on a Windows 2003 Server environment.
If I compile the project it doesn't produce a compiling-error. Everything seems to work fine. Creating a .mde file and running it on a Windows Server 2003 produces some serious errors. The project seems to be starting correctly but opening a form or simply trying to close the application causes MS Access to crash!
I tried the project on 2 different Windows Server 2003 environments, 1 having MS Access 2000 installed and 1 having only MS Access 2000 Runtime installed. Both are experiencing the same problems.
The following references are used in the project:
- Visual Basic For Applications
- Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library
- Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library
- Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
- Microsoft Jet and Replication Objects 2.6 Library
- OLE Automation
- Microsoft Office 9.0 Object Library
- Microsoft ADO Ext. 2.8 for DLL and Security
I tried the following solutions to solve the problem:
* Removing MS Access completely and reinstalling it.
* Compiling and creating a .mde on the Windows 2003 Server which has the full version of MS Access 2000 installed.
* Using JetComp to repair the database.
* Creating a new MS Access 2000 application and copy all Forms/Modules into it.
Nothing helped so far..
The same project is running correctly on Windows 98, ME, 2000, 2000 Server and XP Pro/Home. Both Windows 2003 Servers are fully updated, including updates regarding MS Access.
Help...

Hello,
I have encountered several problems with my Access 2000 application on the server at work within one day, and I am very frustrated. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please....
1/ Sometimes, ALL the tables and queries disappear from the database. I checked everything, nobody hide the objects. Do you know why? I even import new tables to see if those appear, they still do NOT show?? I even created blank database, try to import those tables "hidden", it promped need to be repaired it, then I looked back the original database, the tables re-appear; however, later on, it does have error, prompted "NOT a valid bookmark"?? When I add new records thru the form, it has the word "#error" on every fields....
2/ Some users can open, some can NOT open the same database on the same server. For those users can not open, the errors varies. For examples: it prompts that the "database needs to be repaired," after clicking "Yes", it prompts, it "could not open the database" OR "The database has been placed in a state by an unknown user that prevents it from being opened or locked" eventhough nobody open exclusively!! OR "The table 'MSysAccessObjects' is already opened exclusively by another user, or it is already open through the user interface and cannot be manipulated programmatically."
Have you seen any errors stated in 2/ in RED above. What should I do??
Please help. Thanks so much,
T

Once in a while, the Access 2000 application on our server has this error below:
The database “network pathdatabasename.mdb” needs to be repaired or isn’t a database file. You or another user may have unexpected quit Microsoft Access while a Microsoft Access database was open. Do you want Microsoft Access to attempt to repair the database.
I tried to click the "OK" button to repair it, the first several times, it keeps saying that my computer name was using it so it could not been repair. I even re-boot my computer several times, still can not repair. The next day, I tried to repair it again, it ran about only two-fifth at the status bar, and the "Program Error...MS Access has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart your program. An error log is being created" keep popping up, so I could never repair the file.
Does anybody know WHY it happened and HOW to prevent it from needing to be repaired?
Thanks so much,

Hi all
I'm working in Access 2000 for the first time and all was well until I introduced a wizard-created Switchboard. I created the Order Entry database using the Access wizard and copied the Switchboard form and tables into my database.
Since then I keep getting the following message:
"Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost."
I've Compacted and Repaired but still keep getting the message. Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

In Access can I link to a SQL Server view? I am currently linking to the
SQL Server tables in my database and don't have any views. But if I can link to views I could give the workgroup permissions in Access to the views, not to the primary tables. This would provide some added security from the user who bypasses my switchboard forms and goes to modify the Access tables directly.

I am opening and closing a series of Excel 2000 Workbooks using Access 2000 VBA and want this sequence to be able to complete without any human intervention.
However, there are 2 instances when this stops and waits for a human option to be selected:
1. When the spreadsheet is password protected
2. When the spreadsheet has automatic links I get the message:
"The Workbook you opened contains automatic links to information in another workbook. Do you want to update this workbook with changes made to the other workbook?"
How can I code it so that in situation 1 it skips this file and in situation 2 it automatically defaults to do not update?
Any help most appreciated.

If I have a report in MS Access 2000 generated based on the criteria selected of a project with work order "9999" with the labor costs, materials costs and the Totals of each crew1, crew2,... and I would like to have those expenditures populated in corresponding cel in Excel for each crew, HOW would I do it?
To think it out loud, could I create a button on a form, so when I select the criteria for the work order, and when I click the button, it should refresh/update the Exel file with the new data...?? How do I write VBA code for that...?
Please help...Thank you so much....

Hi everybody,
I have recently been doing a conversion for my boss for a access 2000 database (both front and backend) to a MSSQL backend.
I finished the conversion today (as quite a lot of the code / queries ran slow due to access running the queries locally rather than on the server). And tested it on my and my boss's machine with no problems so he gave the go ahead to update everybody to our new mssql 2000 backend with the modified frontend.
This is when the problems started; We had two different sets of forms for accessing one of our databases systems - the log system, one is the original dynaset based form, and the other is a newer set which uses snapshot views and preforms updates via queries. Nobody uses the old dyanset system apart from my boss and one of the administrative team as they have things on that window which they need to see. About 30 minutes into the release of the new database the system frooze up on my bosses computer and nobody could create a new log (the server was timing out). I assumed this had something to do with the old dynaset's creating locks on the table.
I offlined the database and kicked everybody out of the front end, turned it on again and tied again, this time banning everybody from the dynaset system. Within 10 minutes another computer frooze up, again with a timeout on the insert query. I discovered that after you had added a new log to the database it would timeout on all subquent additions (something it hadn't done during testing) . Further investigatiion showed it was the snapshot list window causing the error, so coded the add log window to close the list before preforming the insert query and then reopen it afterwards. This allowed my machine to make multible additions without flaw. So I released a new client to everybody. 15 minutes later it was timing out again, but this time there you could not even make one new record.
I checked for locks on the table though the server management table and couldn't find any for the Log table. I have restarted the SQL server box and with no avil. So I reverted our backend to the access mdb file and told people to use the old client.
I am at a complete lose to why this is happening, if anybody has had any expericences like this or knows the cause please tell me.
Some information on the database in question.
It was made as an access 2 database all intergrated into one file, then it was seperated into two files (frontend and backend). Upgraded to Access 97, then to 2000 before this final update to MSSQL 2000.
The log system has two main tables. The first is the log title / info table which links (one to many) to a log entry table. This problem only occurs on the main log table and does not appear to be reoccurring anywhere else within the database. The main log table has just under 18,000 rows in it.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Dom

I have the strangest error.
I have used a OLE Bound Object, so I could create a link to some .PDF files. Everything works great, and I was ready to roll it out to the users (boy will they be excited), when I noticed a silly error I could not get rid of.
After closing the .PDF file (which opened correctly) I get an error that reads:
---------------------------------------------
The operationon on the Acrobat Document object failed.
The OLE server may not be registered
To Register the OLE server, reinstall it.
---------------------------------------------
I have searched the internet, this message board and the Microsoft website, and have come up with little. I believe it might be a .dll error, but the only thing close I could find regarded MS Access 95/98. This is an MS Access 200 DB. I get the error on both a Microsoft 2000 machine AND a Microsoft XP machine.
I tried to use "On Error Resume Next" but to no luck.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate the help/suggestions.
Thank you,
TJ Bernard

What could it be? I don't have any antivirus appz or such that could interfere, and my Windows XP+SP2 is updated daily.

The error that comes up is this:
Run-time error '3146':

The line that's producing the error is a DoCmd.RunSQL "SELECT tblPBC..." The full statement is below. I can't seem to see anything wrong w/ my syntax below....
