Have developed an Access dB for logging and reporting on support issues. The following query is used to show how many issues are raised in a specified time period.
SELECT ISSUES_BY_SYSTEM_AREA.report_category, Count(*) AS instances FROM ISSUES_BY_SYSTEM_AREA GROUP BY ISSUES_BY_SYSTEM_AREA.report_category;
REPORT_CATEGORY can have a number of values e.g. Technical Support Issues Configuration Changes User Admin Other
I have two questions (1) How do I get it to report for each category even if the number of intances is zero? For example, if there have been no instances of 'User Admin' this month, I want the results to show as follows (2) How to show the sum of these as well
For example what I want to be returned is: Technical Support Issues 5 Configuration Changes 14 User Admin 0 Other 2 Total 21
Currently this is what would be returned: Technical Support Issues 5 Configuration Changes 14 Other 2
In forms, I frequenty use the following expression to get the results needed from a field's column: =EmployeeID.column(1).
However, when I try to use the column function in a query it doesn't like it: EmployeeName:[EmployeeID].Column(1)
What am I doing something wrong?
Along the same line, if I want to use =EmployeeID.column(1) for an unbound control in a form, why must you put the bound field on the form just to get the info? In this case, I want to do this to display the employee's name - not the primary key - without the scroll bar. Every time I do this, Access performance analyser tells me to use fewer controls, but you can't if you have to have the reference. The same thing seems to be required in queries, i.e. include the unaltered control to get an expression.
Help and advise, as always, will be appreciated! Christine
I have a form that I am trying to show in a text box the results of a count query. The query has two fields in which one is a check box. The criteria for the text box field is set to true to list all that are checked. I want the query to show all the records that are true. This works if I run the query, but the result isn't showing in my text box on the form. On the form text box properties in Control source I have =DLookUp("[Run Number]","Control Room Drumctqry"). Run Number is the field that I am counting, Control Room Drumctqry is the query. Any idea as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks,

I have the listbox named "payment_date", which shows recordset specified by following code:
Code: Private sub Form_Current() Dim que As String que = "SELECT [date] FROM payments WHERE id Like '" & Me!myid & "*' ORDER BY [date] desc;" Me.payment_date.RowSource = que End Sub
I need my listbox to show recordset with record count like this:
I'm creating a form to count the number of employees with birthdays between 2 dates. There are 2 unbound date fields; Start_Date and End_Date. I have an Employee table with DOB field. I've been stuck on how to get the field to return the correct number of employees that fall within the 2 dates.
I have a list of companies that need to return paperwork, we are then scanning that paperwork and placing in a directory and listing that it was received in a table in Access. I want the button to view this scanned in item if the qry for that paper work has arrived and the count is >0.
I run a command on a single form that if a qry is >0 it shows the button and I added that to the GotFocus event in the form.
Now, I want to know how many 1s are there in Rec3 the answer is obviously 2 but I want a field(F4, for e.g) that calculates F1+F2+F3 showing all their 1s 2s and 3s.
A solution I found was...... F4=IIf([F1],1,0)+IIf([F2],1,0)+IIf([F3],1,0)
But I have over 50 Fields that contain 1s and 2s and I can't count them all by using this formula as it will be tremendously long and access will reject it.
So I need another formula(or function) that will look up for the 1s across multiple fields and show the total count for each record in a new field.
Tried 'look up' function but achieved nothing ....
I have 2 tables...a lookup table with possible responses (i.e. yes, no, don't know) and the second with 8 fields that contain the values selected from the first table. Tables are related one-to-many. I need to count the number of times each of the responses shows from the lookup table shows in each of the fields in the main table. Have tried to query with the lookup field set to "group by" and each field set to "count".
I am trying to count records in a running sum fashion in a QUERY and for the records to restart when the field changes. I tried DCount without success.
ie. if a field contained the following data Code Running Count C101 1 C101 2 C103 1 C103 2 C103 3 C104 1 C104 2
I have a table which has information the count of students in classrooms around the university and I need to summarize the table by Faculty. Therefore, all I want to do is a count of students for each faculty i.e. Art and Design, Business and Law etc.
The query i put together is: SELECT Count([tbl_Audited Classroom for Week 02].Faculty) AS CountOfFaculty FROM [tbl_Audited Classroom for Week 02] HAVING (((Count([tbl_Audited Classroom for Week 02].Faculty))="BAL"));
So when I run the query I get the error message 'Data Type mismatch in criteria expression'. The Faculty field is a text field, so I don't know if that would make a difference.
i'm trying to count the total number of records found for this query. i used the following expression (code) in the QED field row Total Incidents: Count([IncidentID]) which, result in an error message.
Can sum1 help me solve this problem. any help would be highly appreciated.
I have a query that Counts the number of times a model number is used. I use totals and the count function under total to get that count. I have the top 10 models used and the query returns my information correctly but. When I make a form or report and place a chart in that uses this query, the results are in alphabetical order not in the order of usage. I need my chart to either go from descending or ascending order of usage and not by alphabetical order of the model number or name. What am I doing incorrectly? It seems like the chart would display the same way my datasheet would in the query.
Here is my sql statement.
SELECT TOP 10 Count(tbl_Closed_Jobs.OEM_Model) AS CountOfOEM_Model, [OEM] & " " & [Desc] AS Expr1, tbl_Closed_Jobs.Desc FROM tbl_Closed_Jobs GROUP BY [OEM] & " " & [Desc], tbl_Closed_Jobs.Desc, tbl_Closed_Jobs.OEM_Model, tbl_Closed_Jobs.OEM, tbl_Closed_Jobs.Plant ORDER BY Count(tbl_Closed_Jobs.OEM_Model) DESC;
I would like Access to open an Excel file count the worksheets and then give each tab the name of the column heading in cell A1 of each worksheet. I had no problem with the code in Excel but when I tried to add it to Access I am getting an error on the WS_Count = obj.ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets.Count line. The error message is "Object variable or With block variable not set".
Here is the code:
Code: 'This block of code will cycle through each tab and name them Dim WS_Count As Integer Dim I As Integer
I'm trying to write a query to get a count of Volunteers under a certain Job Code for a given year - problem comes in that a single Volunteer may record hours multiple times under a Job Code in a given Fiscal Year. I can't seem to get "Unique Values" to work. From my research it looks like I need a two-part query but (as a newbie) I'm not quite sure how to write that. I have two queries, one that works and one that doesn't.
This one counts total amount of hours volunteered under a given Job Code, it works:
Code: SELECT tblHoursWorked.FiscalYear, tblHoursWorked.JobCodeLookup, Sum(tblHoursWorked.HoursWorked) AS [Sum Of HoursWorked] FROM tblHoursWorked GROUP BY tblHoursWorked.FiscalYear, tblHoursWorked.JobCodeLookup; HAVING (((tblHoursWorked.FiscalYear)=[Enter Year:]));
This one attempts to count number of Volunteers that worked under each Job Code in a given year - it instead counts number of entries under that job code. What I think I need to do is count unique instances of the NamesIDFK, but I can't seem to get that to work.
Code: SELECT DISTINCT tblHoursWorked.[JobCodeLookup] FROM tblHoursWorked GROUP BY tblHoursWorked.[JobCodeLookup];
1) correcting my second query and 2) putting them into one query so I can use them in a report.
SELECT tblCurrencies.CcyID, tblCurrencies.Ccy FROM tblCurrencies ORDER BY tblCurrencies.Ccy;
Now - I have a separate table of balances, which is linked to the currency table by the same CcyID, and which also has identifiers to link it to other tables (e.g. AccountID)
As part of the above query, I want to return the count of unique AccountID's in the balance table for each currency. So in other words, I want to know, for each currency, how many unique accounts exist?
Each AccountID could appear one or more times in the balance table (one-to-many relationship), so I only want to count the number of unique ID's.
So I started with the following :
Quote:
SELECT tblCurrencies.CcyID, tblCurrencies.Ccy, Count(tblBalances.AccountID) AS NoOfAccounts FROM tblCurrencies INNER JOIN tblBalances ON tblCurrencies.CcyID = tblBalances.CcyID GROUP BY tblCurrencies.CcyID, tblCurrencies.Ccy ORDER BY tblCurrencies.Ccy;
But this just gives the number of AccountID's per currency (regardless of duplication within them)
I found this article which informs me that a Count(Distinct) query won't work in Access and to use subqueries instead.
I want to return the number of record with the SQL search in MS Access. I am using the following code, the expected result will be a value. But somehow, it does not give any result.
StrSQL = "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table1 WHERE [Condition]='A' "
I opened a 2007 Access db in Access 2010. This DB worked perfectly in Access 2007, but when I opened it in 2010 my recordset.recordcount no longer works.
This is what I have:
rsGetInst was previously defined Dim intInstCount as integer Dim rsGetInst As New ADODB.Recordset rsGetInst.CursorLocation = adUseClient rsGetInst.CursorType = adOpenDynamic rsGetInst.LockType = adLockOptimistic
rsGetInst.open "Select * from tblInstruction where CustID = " & intCustomerID intInstCount = rsGetInst.recordcount
At this point a get a "type Mismatch" error, and it is happening in all my recordsets recordcount.
Is there a command or reference that needs to be change when using Access 2010. When I compared the references the only difference is that in 2007 we reference Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library and in 2010 is Microsoft Access 14.0 Object Library.
