Main Access Window/form

Dec 12, 2005

I need to have Access open with a form that does not take up the entire screen and I don't want to see the Access stuff behind it. How can I make just the start up form appear when I open the db?

Thanks for any help...

Access Main Window Resize

Mar 10, 2006

I'm working on an MS Access app.

The clients use this app with their monitor resolution set to 800 x 600.
Whenever I edit a form I need to set my screen resolution to 800 x 600 to make sure the form is within bounds.

I wan't a fast way to set the Main Access Window's size too 800 x 600 pixels.

Application.DoCmd.MoveSize(,,800,600) is supposed to work but I get a syntax error.

Any ideas?

Minimise Access Main Window/Outlook Contacts Display

Oct 4, 2004

Two questions:
1.I have disabled all menus and assigned a custom form to load when the database is launched.
The form launches with the Main Access window in the background.
Is it possible to have this main window invisible; either minimised or absent?

2.I have created a linked outlook contacts table in my database. I have a feature in one of my forms which searches for contacts based on certain selections.
When a contact is found, it needs to be displayed. I will like to use the existing Outlook contact detail forms to pop up. I can make a custom form to display this info, but it seems a waste of time to code what outlook already has.
Can someone give any ideas? or, direct me to some reference material?
thanks!

Reports :: Possible To Open A Report With Access Main Window Hidden?

Jul 18, 2014

I'm working on a database that produces employee contracts. To make it look as professional as possible I hide the Access main window when the splash screen loads using the ShowWindow function. The various forms to check and enter details all pop up without any problem, but when I get to the last stage where I use a report to produce the contract and then open it in PrintPreview mode, it won't display (unless I show the main window again , which looks very untidy!). Is it actually possible to display a report with the main Access window hidden?

Moving Form To Top Right Of Access Window

Feb 15, 2006

I have a form which I want to move OnLoad to the top-right of the Access window. Something like this:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.Move Right:=150, Top:=150
End Sub

But there isn't a Right:=, only Left:=. So maybe I could find out the width of the Access window? Is this possible?

Thanks for any advice.

Open Word Window On Access Form

Sep 6, 2005

Hello,
I am a researcher creating critical editions of ancient texts by collating readings from several manuscripts (i.e. different mss all contain minor differences). I create my edition in Word and use footnotes to record the variant readings. I also have a database - created from the word file - in which I can add context to each variant e.g. decisions, history etc. So I have a word file containing the text and its variants uniquely identified with a footnote reference and a database with one table and a record per variant and where the variant records are also unique and share the same number as the footnote. I would very much like to be able to open a window on my variant form which displays the word file at the correct variant (i.e. footnote reference) location. This will make it easier for me to record my assessments of the variant in the dbase while looking at where the variant occurs in the text. Obviously I don't need to see the footnote window as I have this info in the dbase.
I haven't got a clue how to do this and would appreciate any pointers.
Many thanks in advance,
Tim

Modules & VBA :: How To Minimize Access Window And Open The Form On Top

Nov 16, 2014

Who can tell me how to minimize Access window while it's form is on top of other open windows (e.g. other applications which are maximized like Excel). By using acCmdAppMinimize command, only the Access window is minimized and if other applications are maxmized, they will be on top. So is there any vba solution to do what I explained?

Forms :: Form Opening Inside Access Window In Background

Apr 8, 2015

I have three forms:

Form_A (main form for the application - should always be open)
Form_B (always open, but sometimes has visibility set to false)
Form_C (opens from button on Form_B)

When I press the button on Form_B, the only code behind it is DoCmd.OpenForm "Form_C". This seems to hide Form_B, and open Form_C behind Form_A (which is the main form of the application) inside of an Access window.

I would like Form_C to open in front of Form_B. I suspect that I set up the form incorrectly or something when I created it, and it is therefore opening inside an Access window.

Why Is Main Form Update Event Triggered When Subform Dirties Main Form?

Dec 1, 2005

I have a subform which makes a change to a field on the main form. When focus is returned to the main form, the BeforeUpdate and AfterUpdate events fire. Why? I thought from the form's perspective, the subform is just another control.

BTW, I get the same behavior if I modify the field from within the Exit event of the subform control.

In either case, the main form's Dirty event is NOT triggered.

Access Elements In A Sub Form From Main Form

Jun 9, 2006

I have a form (called DeliverableDescription ) that has the following buttons: close, and save
the main from has a sub form (called DeliverableDescriptionsubform) that is viewed as a datasheet
also I have a table called DeliverableDescription that has three columns (outline number, name, and group number)

the DeliverableDescriptionsubformshows data from DeliverableDescription (only the outline number and name)
this DeliverableDescriptionsubform is used to update the DeliverableDescription table (through copy and paste from another source)

what I need to do is populate the group number column when the DeliverableDescriptionsubform is updated
the group number is just the first part of the outline number (i.e. if the outline number is 20.45.35.1.4.9 then the group number is 20)

I want to create a command in the save button that takes the string value of each item in outline number column and do some simple string manipulation to it then populate the group number

my approach is to have a select query that gives me all the outline number then through a loop iterate through each one, performing the string manipulation and update to the table.

my question is how to access elements in a sub form, since the save button is in the main DeliverableDescription form
also is there a better way to do this?

thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

Code:Dim ws As WorkspaceDim db As DatabaseDim rs As RecordsetDim OutlineNum As StringDim queryResult As StringDim returnResult As StringDim SearchChar As StringDim Pos1 As IntegerDim TotalLen As Integer OutlineNum = "SELECT DeliverableDescription.OutlineNumber " & _ "FROM DeliverableDescription " Set ws = DBEngine.Workspaces(0) Set db = ws.OpenDatabase("N:statusReport_Test.mdb") Set rs = db.OpenRecordset(OutlineNum) Do While Not rs.EOF queryResult = rs.Fields(0) TotalLen = Len(queryResult) SearchChar = "." Pos1 = InStr(queryResult, SearchChar) returnResult = Left(queryResult, Pos1 - 1) DoCmd.RunSQL ("Update DeliverableDescription SET DeliverableDescription.TeamLeadNumber = returnResult " & _ "WHERE DeliverableDescription.OutlineNumber = OutlineNum ;") queryResult = "" SearchChar = "" Pos1 = 0 rs.MoveNext If rs.EOF Then Exit Do End If Loop DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, acSaveRecord, , acMenuVer70

Problem Updating Main Form Control From Subform In Access 2003 Project (ADP)

Nov 30, 2005

I'm supporting some Access/VBA code which includes the following behavior:

When an update is made in a (linked) child form, the current date/time is written to a textbox on the main form via

Me.Parent!txtMod = Now

Likewise, the BeforeUpdate event of the main form updates the same field (and then does a bunch of form validity checks, possibly followed by a Save).

When we upgraded to Access 2003 from Access 2000, a problem erupted:

When the user returns to the main form (by clicking on any control outside the subform), the following message is issued: "This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it (etc.)..."

At this point the user must choose between "Save Record", "Copy to Clipboard" and "Drop Changes".

Conceptually, I see why this is happening (though I wonder why Access 2000 didn't flag it). The subform is the "other user". When the main form is returned to, it is "Dirty" (unsaved update), so the main form's BeforeUpdate event fires, and attempts to update the field again (Me.txtMod = Now). Since there is a pending change to the field, an error dialog pops up.

As a quick fix, I replaced the code in the subform with a flag ("Hey, I've been updated!"), which the main form checks on the Exit event of the subform control. But that seems a horrible solution. Surely there's a better way?

Notes:

1. It would be preferable to have the timestamp updated right away by the subform, though having it updated when the subform loses focus is better than nothing.

2. Since a subform is a control from the main form's perspective, I'm surprised that a change to that control doesn't render the main form "Dirty". I guess from a database standpoint it makes sense (the form's table isn't getting updated at all; just the subform's). But then, how does the main form know that the subform has been updated?

3. I tried catching the error via Form_Error. I can make the dialog not appear via "Response = acDataErrContinue", but unfortunately it defaults to dropping the changes (old and new), rather than saving the new.

Forms :: Access Style And Window's Style Form Border?

Nov 15, 2014

In my current database there seems to be two different types of borders in my pop-up forms! The best way to explain it is that some forms will have the Access style border while others have the glass style border that you see in windows. I can't seem to find any settings that will change this or even determine what causes it.

Automated Access Launch Causing Access Window To Fail To Hide

Jul 10, 2006

Hi,
I have been using "fSetAccessWindow (SW_HIDDEN)" in the open event of my
main switchboard to hide the grey Access screen from being visible behind
forms, reports, etc in this db. But when I started using a .vbs script file
to launch the db, the Access window stopped being hidden. (The reason I use
the script for launching is that it temporarily sets the db's security level
to 1 which stops the macro security warning from coming up.) Apparently MS
knows about this happening and released a technique to rectify the situation,
but I don't understand their instructions. It looks like they expect one to
have more understanding than I have. Could someone help me get this
impliemented? Here is the article:

Access 2013 - Hiding And Showing Access Window

Apr 6, 2015

I am trying to Hide or Show the Access Window by using two buttons on a Form. Running Access 2013 in Windows 7 64bit.

I have used code from the Internet as below but added the PtrSafe item to the Function Declaration as below:-

Option Compare Database
'Hide Access desktop screen and float Forms on pc desktop
Private Declare PtrSafe Function IsWindowVisible Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Long) As Long

Dim dwReturn As Long
Const SW_HIDE = 0

[Code] ....

I then have two buttons on a form coded as below:-

Option Compare Database
Private Sub cmd_Hide_dbw_Click()
Call fSetAccessWindow("Minimize", False, False)
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_Test", acNormal
End Sub

[Code] .....

I have attached a Test Database which demonstrates the problem I am experiencing.

Do the following sequence...............

Open the Test Database. DO NOT ENABLE CONTENT
The Access 'Ribbon'Test_Database.accdb is active and usable
Open frm_Test in Design View in order to inspect, all should be as shown above.
Now click the Enable Content warning
Switch frm_Test to Form View

Click button Hide dbw. Closes the Access Window
Click button Show dbw. Opens the Access Window...HOWEVER....

Attachment 20252The Access Ribbon is locked and usable !!!

I cannot find a way to re-activate the Ribbon

Open Access App With Access Window Minimized

Mar 29, 2007

I already have this working by means of:

doCmd.RunCommand acCmdAppMinimize in Form_Load (or Form_Open) events.

This works great to hide Access and only display the main form (like a standalone app).

But I have 2 issues:

1. The PopUp form (main or "switchboard" if you like) opens, then Access is minimized, but then the form looses focus. If there are other programs running, form will be behind them!

2. Access is first seen opening (for a moment) and THEN minimized (see 1.). Is there a way NOT TO SEE IT at all? :)

Thanks!

Hide Access Background Window

Jan 31, 2013

I am using Access 2010 and trying to hide the background access window, so that only my forms are visible to the end users.

After researching, I found these VBA codes, but I always get an error. I have changed all my forms & reports to Pop-up and Modal. This is the code that I use on OnLoad of the Main (first form):

Private Sub Form_Load()
Const SW_HIDE = 0
Const SW_SHOWNORMAL = 1
Const SW_SHOWMINIMIZED = 2
Const SW_SHOWMAXIMIZED = 3

[Code] ....

When I open my the database- the mian window is still there and I get an error

"The espression On Load you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Only comments may appear after End Sub, End Function or End Property.

*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Even Procedure].
*There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro.

Do I have to change any thing in File-> Options?

Hide Access Window Task Bar And Reports

Nov 15, 2005

All,

I've been using Dev Avish's excellent code shown within the sample database section to hide access windows. I've taken his call fsetAccessWindow function and set it to 1 or normal in two separate databases. Both databases seem to work slightly differently. The idea is that opening the database produces one Visible instance of access on the taskbar which is the purple standard graphic (Access 2000 / Windows 2000). With the first database I have set up reports through the active x control as required when using dev's code and even when I hit the report button the user is only aware of one visible instance of access as the purple colour graphic.

I am trying to implement the same code in a second database and have copied the code from the previous database into this database. It works great for the forms however there is a slight glitch when report forms are accessed. Rather than remaining with the purple access part on the task bar the task bar section is split into two between the form and the report. In the previous database users would not notice that the report had been opened at all. (although technically it was still running in the backrground)

I have checked most of the properties between the two database forms and they would appear to be the same..

Has anyone got any ideas why the taskbar is behaving differently between these two databases there must be some difference between my set up but as yet cannot find it??

Thanks Mark

Open MS Access Window In A Certain Position And Size

Nov 27, 2006

Hi,

I would like to open the MS Access Window in a certain position and size.

Somehow similar to open a form when using:
- to set the position and size:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Form.Move Left:=11500, Top:=6500, Width:=7000, Height:=6000
End Sub

I would like to open the MS Access Window within the screen area at a certain location, and having a certain size.
Is there any option in the Access Menu, or I can write some code, and where has to be written, so when I double click on the *.mdb file, the MS Access Window will open where I want and the size I want.

Thank you.

Screen Capture Access Window And Save To Disk

Oct 18, 2005

Hi,

I'm looking to take a screen dump of the current Access window, and save it to disk, as part of the error handling for my application. Does anybody have any suggested starting points? I've been Googling around for a while, but haven't really turned up anything concrete.

This (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=240653) was as close as I really got (sending the print screen keystroke), however I still need a way to save this data to the disk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
