View RepliesI have recently created a small inventory database just for fun, but I am looking to expand my knowledge with Access since I have not dealt with it hardly at all. I would like to know how to create a regular main menu to the database that gives you options on what you want to do. I would like to be able to look up inventory by serial number, edit inventory, add inventory, and run reports from the main menu. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a very large Access application and use a hidden "main switchboard" to store data such as the current customer ID. Prior to the advent of tempvars, I embedded a key control into many query's underlying combo boxes, list boxes and forms criteria:
"Forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid].
The problem arises when the user quits the application on with forms using this in their underlying query(ies). As far as I can tell, the application closes forms in the order in which they were opened, so the "main switchboard" closes first. Then, for some reason, the current form has a requery and the user is presented with a prompt to enter the parameter "forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid]. I tested and found I could replace the criteria reference to a tempvar to "fix" the problem. I wonder if there would be a way to open every query in design view and do a search and replace on the criteria statement.
Hi,
I'm fairly new to Access and was wondering if it's possible to create a database that finds MP3's in a given folder and reads the ID3 details to create records, to save entering all the song details manually?
Cheers
I wonder if anyone can help - i'm fairly new to access and am just starting to plan a database to catalogue my CDs. I've looked at the microsoft template and various others. Anyway, everything is fine until you get to a "various artists" CD and i'm a bit lost now about my table designs and relationships etc. can anyone help me with the best way of going about this?
Thanks in advance

Hey guys,
Yous seem to know virtually everything about access, so hopefully some kind soul could help me out - I think it should be easy enough, but I'm a newbie.
Basically, I have to design a music collection database. I've 5 tables - Artist, Album, Recording Label, Category and Tracks.
What I want to do is essentially create a database similar to the template available on the miscrsoft website. In it, when you go into the Recordings form for example, if the artist if not yet entered (ie cant be selected from the drop-down list), then you can double click and get the Artist form to pop-up. The same goes for Music Category, which also displays a pop-up form if necessary. I'd like to know how to do this??
I apologise if I'm using incorrect terminology, not explaining this correctly, or asking this question for the millionth time, but any help anyone could give would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I am making a database of MP3 songs. I want to include a link to each song and be able to play the song from the database by clicking on the link.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on a database that will be an addition to an existing one on the company server. However, to make the overall layout not so complex and allow room for other additions in the future, I'd like to keep the databases separate. This will also ensure more efficiency, integrity and troubleshooting overall.
I have the original database with the name of "Cell MFG Screen" that contains a switchboard. I am now creating a db to keep track of manufacturing waste (which will also be on the same server when completed). That switchboard is called "Cell Waste Weight". Again, I want to keep these db's separated from one another as well being able to add future dbs. Now, what my plan is to make up a one db that consists of only a switchboard that will be used as the main switchboard to be able to navigate to other dbs that are located on the server.
Does anyone know how this is done?
Thank you in advance for your help,
~Kilch
I have a database with a Main Menu Form, containing a Button that loads my main data entry form. When the Button is Clicked portions of the data entry form that is loading shows through the Main Form Background (e.g. portions of the navigation bars, and portions of the boarder on the form that is loading.)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a subform which makes a change to a field on the main form. When focus is returned to the main form, the BeforeUpdate and AfterUpdate events fire. Why? I thought from the form's perspective, the subform is just another control.
BTW, I get the same behavior if I modify the field from within the Exit event of the subform control.
In either case, the main form's Dirty event is NOT triggered.
Hi All, looking for some help.
I am looking for a way to link a help file to a button on the switchboard. I have several pages that all work well and open up the required forms and reports but I would like to add a help file to a button. Any idea would be appreciated thanks Williebear.

Thanks
All,
I have created a new switchboard but don't know where it is. When I create it using the Switchboard Manager and then click close, it doesn't appear under any of the options. I have also set is as default but it fails to appear on startup.
Silly question I know. Any ideas?
Many Thanks
version: MS Acess 2003
Was wondering how one might go about creating a swithboard similar to the Northwind one found in the sample database. Thanks
View 1 Replies View RelatedBrief Summary,
I have limited experience in Access but have a bit more understanding of databases and tables. I am helping a friend create and access database to track the time his employees spend on different job sites. i am using a template from Microsoft called "Time and Billing" I am going to be manipulating the structure a bit but other than that the template should work fine.
My main struggle is I need to have a screen that the employees access that takes them straight to add / edit a time sheet. i want the rest of the data, reports, views to be password protected. Ideally the switchboard would load up to a page that had a button from employees to click on where they would be taken to the form and a button the owner could click on, enter a password, and be taken into the back-end where the main switch board and the rest of the data resides.
If anyone can help me out that would be great. Oh yeah, The Access database in is Access 2000 being used on a machine running XP Pro.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, so I will sound like the dumbest person but essentially what is a switch board?
I have searched this place I have searched google but no luck, all I get is that its a menu to navigate, so basically a form with buttons that open frm's qry's etc... I have made a main menu with a basic form so whats so special about a switchboard.
Cheers
I have two queries. I have a delete query and an append query. Is there anyway that I have these two queries run on a switchboard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHelp - I made a switchboard and it went wrong, so deleted all of the sub switchboards and the switchboard icon in the forms window.
I have now made a new one, but I can't get it to appear in the forms window.
Any ideas?

Hi
Can anyone tell me what the advantage (or difference) is in using a switchboard rather than just creating your own form and using command buttons etc?
Thanks
When I make a switchboard is there any way you can go to a table? or can you just go to a form or query? and when you make a switchboard and you have a button going to the form how can you go from the form back to the switchboard?
