Making A Query That Can Extract 2 Closest Column Values

Dec 20, 2006

Hello I have a query in MSACCESS that looks like this

N| Q | A | B | C | D | E | F |
X|..4.|..1.|..6.|..7.|..9.|...|...|

now my problem is that I want to have a query select the 2 closes values to Q from columns either A B C or D and put them into columns E and F

I am just so stuck here, if anyone can help or give me a steer in a right direction i would greatly appreicate it!

Making A Search Form And Sending Values To A Query

Nov 9, 2007

Hi, I am a complete idiot with VB/SQL/*anything for that matter*

Made an unbound form to search and retrieve records from a query (parameter query) (for property listings)

I've got the following fields in my "Search_Form"

1) Project (combo box pulls data from projects table)
2) Size (from - to)
3) Rate (from - to)
4) Date (from - to)
5) Price (from - to)

I've set variables for each field .... VAR_sizeFROM....... VAR_sizeTO etc.

Now here's my problem.

1) How do use VB to send the user inputs from my "Search_Form" to "Search_Query". And is it possible for either of the search fields to be blank in the form?

2)How can I do the same for a report?

Please help, I've been stuck with this for some time..

Thanks in advance

Select Closest Match Query

May 18, 2005

Greetings all!
I am working on something and it has me stumped. Basically I have a list of Eastings and Northings and I am trying to find the closest postcode centroid based on the PAF file (for those that do not know of the PAF file, it contains a list of postcodes and the easting and northing of the centroid).
The best way that I can see of doing this is:
For each record I am trying to match, calculate the distance from the Easting,Northing to every easting, northing in the PAF.
Select Min(Straight Line Distance) from the results.

However I do not know how to do this without matching each record that I am looking at individually! Can anyone give me an idea of how I can put this query together?
I am using MS Access :(

Thanks!
~Shiv

Queries :: Difference Between Rows - How To Extract CHANGED Value In A Column

Jan 24, 2015

I have a query question . How can I extract a CHANGED value" in a column? Example here under table1. Time and TAG makes a record unique, No ID available ...

Table1
time tag value
10:02 Tag1 10
10:02 Tag2 11
10:03 Tag1 10
10:03 Tag2 11
10:04 Tag1 10
10:04 Tag2 12
10:05 Tag1 10
10:05 Tag2 12
10:06 Tag1 10
10:06 Tag2 12
10:07 Tag1 11
10:07 Tag2 12
10:08 Tag1 11
10:08 Tag2 11

I want to have as output
10:04 Tag2 12
10:07 Tag1 11
10:08 Tag2 11
(so at 10:04 tag 2 changed in value and on 10:07 tag1 changed value and 10:08 changed Tag2)

Preferably with the previous value as well, but this is not the highest prio
10:04 Tag2 12 11
10:07 Tag1 11 10
10:08 Tag2 11 12

Making One Column The Sum Of Other Two

Jan 3, 2008

Hi!

I have a table called "products"

One column is "Unitary Price", another one is "Quantity" and another one is "Tax"

And I want another column called "Total" that shows:
Unitary Price*Quantity+Tax*Price*Quantity

Is this possible to be made?? :( I'm a bit newbie to MS Access, so try to explain as most detailed as you can! For example, if I have to write [Unitary Price] between brackets... I tried doing this on the "Default Value" field of the column but I couldn't make it.

Thank you!!

Extract Unique Values

Feb 17, 2005

I have the following SQL definition:

SELECT DISTINCT tblFile_Management_Received.Claim_Number, tblFile_Management_Received.Date_Checked_In, tblFile_Management_Received.Checked_In_By, tblFile_Management_Received.Copy_or_Original
FROM tblFile_Management_Received;

The results would show as:

ClaimNumber Date Checked In Checked In By Original or Copy
111111111 2/16/2005 8:34:24 AM XXXX Yes
111111111 2/16/2005 1:23:19 PM XXXX Yes
222222222 2/16/2005 8:34:52 AM XXXX Yes
222222222 2/16/2005 1:24:49 PM XXXX Yes

I am trying to use "Distinct" to show the following records when the query is ran (the desired results would be each unique claim number based on the earliest check in date):

ClaimNumber Date Checked In Checked In By Original or Copy
111111111 2/16/2005 8:34:24 AM XXXX Yes
222222222 2/16/2005 8:34:52 AM XXXX Yes

Can anyone help me with this??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Populating A Column In A Table Based On Values In An Existing Column

Mar 5, 2007

Hi all,

In the organisation that I work for employees get paid every 2 weeks on a Saturday. So for this financial year the pay period end dates have been 08/07/2006, 22/07/2006, 05/08/2006 etc

I have a column in an Access table listing various dates. I want the next column to be
populated with the next pay period end date after that date.

So if DATE is 05/07/2006 I want PAY PERIOD END to be 08/07/2006
and if DATE is 09/07/2006 I want PAY PERIOD END to be 22/07/2006 etc

How do I do this?

Kind Regards,

Modules & VBA :: Passing Values (From Two Column Listbox) To Saved Query

Oct 3, 2013

How can I pass two (2) values to a saved query ? These values are in a form that has a listbox with two (2) columns. The name of the form is 'Previous Evaluation Form'. I'm able to retrieve the values from both columns of the listbox in the form and I've already created the query. Both are working fine, but can figure out how to pass the query's criteria to select records for 'Name' and 'Date' columns of the query. Below is what I had in the 'Criteria:' of the query. What wrong with the code that is placed in the query's 'Criteria:' ?

I have tryed in this way:

GROUP BY name;

But Access says me there is a syntax error.

Access Not Recognizing Numbers After Run Update Query To Revise Values In One Column

Oct 25, 2014

Access doesn't seem to recognize the values in a table I am updating. I am using an update query to revise prices in a column Titled "Price". I am comparing the prices in the Price column to the prices in another column with a simple IIF statement (i.e., IIF([Price]=[Column2Price],"Yes","No"). However, oddly, the formula produces a "No" result, even when the prices are plainly the same values, and all formatting for both columns is the same. Whenever I manually type over the price with the same value, the formula works and Access seems to work as intended. For example, I simply type "12.95" over the same value that is displaying in the column that I updated that is already showing "12.95". Then, after I do that, the formula works and produces a "Yes" value.

Closest Match Criteria

Dec 3, 2007

I need help writing an SQL statement in Access 2007 to select the closest date/time. I have Spot Time (the date/time commercials ran) and Call Time (the date/time we received calls).

I need to match these two fields so that I can tell which calls came in within 5 minutes before the Spot Time and which came in 15 minutes after.

Between DateAdd("n",-5,[SpotTime]) AND DateAdd("n",15,[SpotTime])

This gives me results within that 20 minute time range, but does not match each call up to the closest time.

For example,

SpotTime--------------- CallTime
6/30/2007 10:45 AM 6/30/2007 10:55 AM
6/30/2007 10:50 AM 6/30/2007 10:55 AM
6/30/2007 10:55 AM 6/30/2007 10:55 AM

In this example I would need the three Call Times to correspond with the 10:55 AM spot because the Call Time occurs very close to the Spot Time. I am unclear how to proceed.

Tables :: Finding Closest Value In A Table?

Oct 13, 2012

I am working on a DB for maintenance of medical records for use by medical mission groups in Central America. As a child's information is entered into the DB, I want to be able to display his growth progress percentile numerically instead of graphically as found on a standard CDC.gov weight vs height growth chart. The graph are nonlinear so I just can't use an expression.

I have the data for percentiles based on weight and height but I need to be able to find the CLOSEST value on this table to the child's observed values of height and weight.

How do I find the value on a table which is closest to a specified number?

Column Values To Rows?

Aug 25, 2006

I am trying to devise a way to display query results in a row instead of a column. The table on which the query is built has this structure:

Column1: Index (pkf)
Column2: Group (int)
Column3: Position (int)
Column3: ItemCode (txt)

When I do a select query, the data comes back like this:

Group Position ItemCode
11A
12B
13C
14D
15E
16F
Etc.

I want to arrange the data this way:

1ABCDE (Etc)

I keep thinking that a cross-tab query is the answer, but all I seem to be able to do is to get counts of Position 1, 2, 3 Etc.

I’m baffled. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Rick

Queries :: Sum Of Values With Same ID In Column

Aug 14, 2013

I am having some trouble with a program that contains a query that is suppose to sum a bunch of market values that have the same ID and is from the same portfolio.

The problem I had at first was that some of these IDs and portfolios that should have been summed together had one called counterparty that had different values.

So the problem that occured was the following:

ID Portfolio CounterParty SumOfMarketValue
5224 SPAC Counterparty1 -55
5224 SPAC Counterparty2 -45

What I wanted

ID Portfolio SumOfMarketValue
5224 SPAC -100

So what I did was that I deleted that column, but I am guessing that the table somehow might save that they have this difference. How I can make them appear in the same sum?
