Making Specific Fields In A Current Record Copy Themselves When Making New Record
Mar 28, 2005
;) Hey everybody,
I am working on a database used in recording device characteristics/test information. The main table of information has dozens of columns for test/part detailed information. When inputing the data for each specific test, many of the info. details are repeated when testing say 20 devices of the same part all at once. Rather than retype every piece of detailed information in every field, everytime, is there an easier way? Does anyone know of a way to make specific fields copy/paste the previous record's information in the fields automatically when a new record is created? Please, if anyone could help or has ANY ideas, let me know...
I have a MS Access 2000 database with 136 data tables in it. What I would like to do is execute a piece of VBA code which will list for me in another table, (for example: Field1: TABLE NAME Field2: FIELD NAME 1 Field2: FIELD NAME2 etc), starting left to right, how many fields would have to be combined in each table to represent a unique record.
For instance:
TYPE ID TEXT 1 1 "Cats" 1 2 "Dogs" 2 1 "Rabbits"
In this example a combination of the fields TYPE and ID give a unique record.
I am new to access i have a problem which is i have made a form which contains a subform and a read only subreport, what i want is the ability to select a record in read only subreport as in the picture attached and make a button that when i press on it, it should copy the values of the itemsID field, Packing field, ContainerNo field and origin field from the selected record and then paste them in the subform below.
Also i want to add more then one item, so the when i press on another record it should paste the values below the first record.
I have a subform (continuous) which shows a summary of all clients basic data in a list. Clicking a client requerys and refreshes some other subforms so the accompanying data for that client is shown. Whenever I double click a record, the "main" window for that "object" opens. So say I double click on client A1 in the summary list, a form opens where I can view all the clients data and change it if necessary. That same form is also used to add clients to the database.
Whenever I change or add a clients data and close the form, the following code is executed:
Private Sub Form_Close() On Error GoTo ClientsAdd_Err
ClientsAdd_Err: MsgBox Error$ Resume ClientsAdd_Exit End Sub
Which makes the new client appear in the summary list or makes the changed data of an existing client appear in the summary list. That's what I want it to do of course.
But whenever that is done, the cursor jumps back to the first record (client 1) in the summary list. What I would like to have happen is:
- when a new client has been added, keep the cursor on that client in the summary list after the form closes and the list is updated.
- when a record of an already existing client is changed and the form closes, keep the cursor on that client in the list also.
DoCmd.GoToRecord acForm, "ClientsViewSummarySubForm", acLastgives "The object ClientsViewSummarySubForm isn't open. As does the same line of code but then using the name "ClientsViewSummary". The form itself is called that way. The subform object itself goes by: "ClientsViewSummarySubForm".
I've tried some variations but all without succes. Which line of code is the correct one to use for a subform on a parentform instead of "just" a normal, open form?
I am having an issue with one person having trouble getting an error when trying to duplicate a record.
The subform is set up with a button to duplicate a record. This allows most of the data that stays the same to be copied to a new records and then minor changes can be made to update the record for the new month. Since there are memo fields, in these records, this saves a lot of retyping. One person who is using the database gets the following error when clicking on the duplicate record button.
The command or action 'Copy' isn't available now.
It makes a new blank record but won't copy over the information. You can go to the record and copy each field individually and paste it into the new record, but this is not very practical.
I have not been able to duplicate the error and no one else using the database is having this happen.
I have created a button with Macro located on form in record. It does what I want except I want it to display only last record. Currently it is displays first record and I have to scroll. See attached photo of what I have. Access 2010
hi, i have a form, which when opened, gives me a blank record. which is what i asked it to do in the OnOpen property. however, i also need a msg box to popup - but after the form has been opened. i tried placing both pieces of 'code' into the OnOpen property, however, the popup displays first, then the form opens.
so currently i have:
Private Sub Form_Load() Select Case MsgBox("Please select the Registration Number from the drop down menu or type it in", vbOKOnly, "Select Registration Number")
End Select End Sub -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer) DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
End Sub --------------------------------------------------------------------------
but it does the same thing. so, is there a way to make the msg box appear after the form opens with a blank record? thank you in advance :D
Hi I have a very simple table, with say 5 fields (all text). There is only 1 table. The first field is name, and I want to enforce its uniqness across all other table.name values. I am completely new to Access database and am not sure how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to copy the current record on a form to a different table? Example:
Form Name = Training Orders bound to a table with the same name. 2nd Table Name = History
I need to export certin fields from the Training Orders Form into the History Table. Below is the way I am trying to make it happen, but it does not work.
With Me.RecordsetClone .AddNew ![Forms]![History]![Last Name] = Me.[lastname] .Update
While the validation runs a boolean keeps track of validated input and errored input.
After validation the validated input is dumped in the table.
Now what I want is de saving the errored record from "rsSQLIn" to be copied to a new .csv file.
The problem I have is that I cant seem to get the current record from the recordset "rsSQLIn". How do I reference this? I need the complete set of 24 fields being the same within "rsSQLIn"
The underlined part (acCmdRecordsGoToNew) is false part of this code, because it copies the Adress Info to a new record, instead of copying it in the same.
-Is there someone that can help me with this problem, to make the copy-button in the Form run properly?
-Are there other options to achieve te same?
I have put in a attachment, to give you guys a visual example of what I mean.
Its been a few years since I used Access, and despite searches I cant find what I'm looking for. I have a VERY simple form, with only one record on it - "address". I have some print buttons which will print that address to different size labels, and some navigation items, but only one actual record - which is "address" (in the table, this address is a MEMO)
I would like to have a command button that when clicked copies the current record, and opens an existing Excel Spreadsheet and pastes that address into (for example) cell C8
Can it be done easily? Is there a DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet kind of secnario that works with current record only?
I have an access form that needs filling in daily by various people.
It's to document changes to a website and I currently have a combobox box set up for the various sections to state whether they are AMENDS, REVERTS or NO CHANGE.
I have set conditional formatting to then highlight these sections but am also trying to get it to work so that if the user chooses "NO CHANGE" then the data for that field copies over from the previous record.
I have set this up in the AfterUpdate code for the combobox, but nothing is happening, not even an error....
Code: Private Sub COMBOBOX1_AfterUpdate() If Me.COMBOBOX1 = 3 Then Me.[FIELD_TO_CHANGE] = DLookup("[FIELD_TO_CHANGE]", "tb_TABLE", "[ID]=Forms![form_FORM]![ID]-1") End If End Sub
(Where 3 is the value of NO CHANGE in the combobox, and FIELD_TO_CHANGE, tb_TABLE and form_FORM being the names of the various elements)...
I created an unbound text box on a form that automatically pulls the current logged in user by using this:
Private Sub Txtuser_Click() Me.Txtuser = Environ("Username")
The form grabbs the logged in user with no problems, however, I ultimately want this information to also end up in my table. So the form has three boxes (to keep it simple). The user will type their first name and last name manually on the form which the record source is this "table" where their name goes to the table last name =Field 1 and first name=Field 2 respectively. I want the unbound box from the form to place the logged in user in Field 3 for the current record.
I would like to do a loop but never done one before, basically i want to copy the current record by the number of times specified in a quantity field
So if the quantity field in the record says 5 then copy that record 5 times (I have managed to create the copy and paste code but dont know how to make it do it 5 times
I have a form that I want to make all fields required so that the user cannot leave that form until all fields are filled out. I have the Required property in the table set to yes, and this works fine if I go to the form from the database window. However, If I go to the form from the main switchboard (In Add Mode), the form can be closed without all of the fields being completed. I know it's probably something pretty simple, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached is a picture of the form if it would help at all.
I have a form named frmBuilds_All. This is a continuous form and has 4 yes/no fields. They are "WaitingFab", "WaitingPaint", "WaitingParts", and "Completed". The labels however are just "Fab", "Paint", "Parts", and "Completed". I would like to make it so that when one of these check boxes are checked, the label for that box has it's background color change.
Filter From List
On a separate form named fromBuilds_Today, a list of all builds for today are displayed. I would like to make it so that when the check box for "Completed" is checked, the record in question is filtered off of this list.
To start, I am going to generalize to a database of Cows. the fields are:
Name (enforced unique/"Primary Key" in access language?),
size, color, age.
The goal is to have a form with check boxes for the fields that the user selects. Scenario is one cow buyer cares about size, while another may care about color and be curious on age. So rather than guessing at what reports the users will want, have a form that allows them to select the fields they want then print a report. An intermediate step would be a query to filter the data.
See the picture below ....
Also, from my perspective, this is the basis of the best code i would write; if someone wanted to add a column for cow gender you wouldnt have to change all your forms/queries/reports:
Global import table.Cows
Form 2 in picture (form with check boxes): for ( i=0, i<width(Cows), i++) form.create.checkbox cb.append(i) cb.append(i).label(Cows[i])
Then create the report based on cb0, cb1, cb2, etc. queries
I have an address field containing "City", Street Name, and street Address. How do I link these fields together on a form so that when I enter data into the "City" field the rest of the fields making up the address fills in?
I have fields on a form for the Date, the Start time and the Finish time. These won't change for the next 120 records. So, upon opening a new record, I'd like the Date and times to appear there already. But here is the crux: After about 120 entries, the date and Time changes, for the next 120 entries. So, once the 'batch' is finished, or I close access, the values do not need to be remembered until I enter a new record.
I copied something like the following from a book and tried running it with various modifications, just for the Date to start with, but no luck. (It did strike me as too simple for something, clearly, as unbelievably TRICKY as my problem...) I did find quite a few posts on this here but none seemed to work for me, or made sense to me in the slightest. (I did mention that I'm a complete rookie, didn't I?)
Private Sub Acquired_date_AfterUpdate() Me!Acquired_date.DefaultValue = "'" & Me!Acquired_date.Value & "'" End Sub
Hi everybody, My question may sound you stupid but i am a newbie and i think you can help me... My problem is, I have records that have the id of a stuff and the error codes of the stuff which are occured in production. Therefore not all of the fields in the record are non-zero. I want to find the non-zero field/fields in a record... Any help will be greatly appreciated... Thanks...
I'm an expert user in Excel and am trying to learn more about Access, so I relate many of the functions to what they are called in Excel. And what I'm trying to do right now is count the number of fields in a specific record where the value is a specific result (CountIf).
For example, I need to return the number of fields in a specific record where the value is "Meets Requirements". The specific record will be determined by the Name, Contact, and Email fields (which together comprise the Primary Key).
Is there a way to count the values in multiple fields that equal "Meets Requirements"?
