I want to close a form and I am using
Private Sub Form_Close()
Application.Quit
End Sub
as the form opens with the access application window hidden, and I found that the .ldb file didn't close if I simply used the X.
I have a series of fields with validation rules which activate on exit. One of these validation rules is in the box which gets focus when the form opens. This means that I get the validation text error message boxes when I close the form with the X.
If I have started to complete the form, I get a whole host of error messages and validation messages when I try to shut it with the X.
Is there a way of closing the form and cancelling or ignoring all error message boxes. I want the user to be able to close the form if they have decided not to fill it in after all, or have got part way through and want to cancel.
I would really appreciate any help, I am sure this is a very basic question and I should probably be able to find the answer, but I can't and I am very fed up!

I have the below code that when a user will make a change in a combo box, it will pop up a message asking if they want to do so (to make them aware of it). How could I change it so there is a extra button cancel and when they hit cancel, the combo box will keep the value, if OK is hit, then make the change.
Code:
If Me.Business = "TYPE 1" And Me.Case = "Sent Email" Then
MsgBox ("You really want to change this!!!")
End If

Rather than use the MSGBOX command with y/n buttons, I would like to display a message box (a simple form?) that simply displays a status of what is happening while other code is running. The user can't close the status box, just has to sit there and wait. The message box would have multiple messages that would be issued depending upon the staus of other code and macros being completed, something like statustext = " Please wait... Running the update query" then statustext = statustext & "Finished calculating main budget" then statustext = statustext & " Finished recalculating schedules" etc and finally statustext = statustext & "Finished!". At the end of the last message, the message status box would stay on screen (modal form porperty?) but a button would then be visable ( [OKButton].Visible = True ?) to let them close the box.
Can anyone give me a hint on the basics of the posting the [statustext] to such a message box.
Thanks in advance

I have a form and a subform in it. I added New cancel button in the form so that the the user can cancel the record creation and no record will be inserted in the parent table.
But when details are entered in the subform (a datasheet) row records will be created in the subform table. what is the correct method or how to cancel these records if the user choose to click cancel button on the parent form.

I have a form with a number of fields for users to enter data into, with a "Total" being calculated. The users also have the option to ignore these fields and just enter a total manually into a seperate "Totals" field.
I want to set the form up so that when the form is opened the manually entered "Totals" field is hidden, leaving users to enter the component values, with the total being calculated automatically.
However, I want to add an option button so that if users just want to type in a total manually rather than enter the component values, they click the option button and the manually entered "Totals" field appears and the other component fields become disabled. This would prevent both a calulated total and a manually entered total being entered into the form.
Any help on the code that I need to use when the option button is clicked would be greatly appreciated.

I have a database with 1 main form. This form has a bunch of lookup tables that are being displayed in comboboxes on the form.
What I want to do is create another form that has a series of radio buttons that when selected show the specific lookup table which can then be updated/modifyed.
I am unsure where to start. When they select one button I need the table to open "sub form?", "List Box?", and then when they choose another table the first should close and the next open etc. I want all of this to be done within 1 Form.....
Any thoughts?

Hi all, a newbie with novice access skills.
I'm very good with utilizing the access tools however I can only code in vb editor minimally. What I'm looking to do is have the option buttons control two combo boxes. One to search by user name and the other to search by serial #. I've created an option group with two buttons I set the default values in the combo boxes in accordance with the option buttons However, the option buttons aren't doing what they are supposed to do. I've been told I need to tweak the code for the buttons in order to make them control the combo boxes. Does anybody know what I need to do to make this happen? Ultimately the user will be able to click either of the buttons to perform a search through a single combo box.
Thanks to everyone out there for making this possible. Your expert knowledge will help me grow into an expert myself.
Thanks to all in advance!

Hi
Is it possible to set events for the buttons on a message box?
For example if I create a Message Box when someone clicks on a button, and set it to vbYesNo, can I then create an open form event on the yes button, and a close acform event on the no button.
Thanks

I would like to give it my own message box stating that is not possible to go further

I have some code (see below) that checks if the start date text box is blank or greater than the end date, and if so, generates a message box and sets the focus back to the start date textbox. There are command buttons on the form that open queries based on the date fields. This all works fine.
However, if the user changes his mind and closes the form without filling in the date field, the message box "Please enter a start date" pops up repeatedly. How do I specify that a text box is required UNLESS the user is closing the form?
Code:
Private Sub txt_startdate_LostFocus()
If ((IsNull(txt_startdate) Or (txt_startdate) = " ")) Then
MsgBox "Please enter a start date.", vbOKOnly
[Code].....

Every time I re-open Access 2010 it pops up stating the following with a blank text box:
"[Forms]![Frm_system]![sub_frm_invoices].[form]![invoice_id"
I hit ok and the usual invoice_id param text box message box appears again.
Once that is over, I gain access. I can browse to the form - frm_system, open the sub-form sub_frm_invoices and remove the invoice_id field. Once I re-add it everything works fine (until I close the application).
I initially thought it was because the database was set to "compact on close" but I disabled that and it is still occuring .
I know this is the cause but as the sub-form itself uses a table record-source I know the field exists - not to mention I can simply delete and re-add it to fix it temporarily.
This behavior occurs when a field, a criteria, an expression, or a control in a query, a form, or a report references a name that Access cannot find. For example, a name could be misspelled or a field may not be available within that scope.
Basically it looks like the textbox displaying the invoice_id on the form is the problem. I can't figure out why though. When I remove it everything works - the queries work if I recreate it as well..

Is this possible? I can't seem to find this q anywhere here so I thought I'd post.
I changed the colour of my form to white, but the Navigation Buttons at the bottom and the command buttons that I 've added stay at the default grey.
Is there anyway to change this? I right-clicked and tried changing it to white through the properties but there's nothing there that does this.

Using Access 97, I have a single-form allow-additions form where a couple of bound fields are auto-populated 'on current' and a couple of other bound fields are left to be populated by the user (me!).
At the end of an input session, I can press ESC and then close the form OK. But if I forget to press ESC and try to close the form, I have an invalid incomplete record on screen.
How do I indicate that the new record isn't wanted? I have tried stuff like
If Me!txtRequiredBoundField = Null then
SendKeys "(ESC)"
End If
to no avail.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I want my user to be able to "cancel" his entry. At first I tried just deleting the record they were working on. But that added numbers in the auto number "ID" field, and I also needed the feature for editing, so deleting wasn't an option. As of now I have something that works, but is kind of messy. I made a mirror "temp table" that I write the record to. If they "save" i append/update the record to the regular table, then delete it from the temp, if they "cancel" I just Delete it from the temp. Was wondering if there was a cleaner way to do this ?

Hello All,
I am finding this one difficult so felt I should post my issue.
I have status field on my form. It is a bound field.
A combobox - inactive, active.
I wanted the field to do the following when changed
If change then msgbox = Please enter reason in activity notes
a vbYesCancel
If they select it calls the activity notes form - this portion works.
If they select cancel I tried making the field do
form.field.undo (Me.statusid.undo) - something similar
Cancel = True
to reset the field to the original state.
This fails and says my object is not valid
I would be happy to take any suggestions . As always thanks in advance.

Hi
After looking through the forums, i couldn' really see the answer i was looking for.
I have a form, that users can enter in details (with an auto-number created which is assigned to each record). Once they have entered the detials, theres a 'save' button which will save the record - which is fine. I also have a 'return' button which should return to the previous form and doesnt save the record. But as it stands, the record is saved when i click this return button. How do i make it so that the record isnt saved untill the save button is clicked? so if i return from the screen (pressing the return button), the record isnt saved (i.e. a cancel button).
Thanks in advance :)
