Barcode Reader With Access DB

Dec 9, 2005

Hi,

One of users of supermarket is running my db successfully since long. But due to the change of time & his progress in business, he expanded his supermarket and it is becoming difficult to use the keyboard to enter the digits for the price.

Hence he asked me to make db able to read barcode on the items so the transaction would take very little time.

To be frank, I do not have any experience about barcode reader how to implement it with Access db.

What kind of barcode readers are available that would EASILY set with Access db? R They really work with Access db? What steps I need to carry out to implement it?

Please advice if anyone of you has any idea in this regard.

With kind regards,
Ashfaque

General :: Finger Print Reader And Access

Dec 24, 2014

I have just finished putting together an access database as a payroll. It is working fine and it will now save the company a lot of man hours in calculations.

When the employee clocks in or out there is a form and the employee has to key in a unique employee number and a password, which of necessity is hidden from view. Of course the password can be divulged from one employee to another.

Consequently, eventually I will need to incorporate a finger print reader and use the information from this instead of the password.

Progress Meter

Mar 30, 2005

I have a form that, when I press a button it loads another form. The second form takes about 20-25 seconds to load due to the fact that the (split)DB is running over a network, and the form itself has many fields on it. I'm thinking that my users will think that their computer is locked up and keep closing out of the DB. I would like to add a progress meter or percent meter so the user will at least see that something is happening. Has anyone ever programmed one of these things, and if so, could you please give me some insight? Thanks.

Using Syscmd(... Update Meter)

Oct 12, 2005

I use syscmd(acsyscmdInitMeter) and syscmd(acSysCmdUpdateMeter) frequently. I noticed that the acSysCmdUpdateMeter has two arguments. I know the first one updates the counter, but I have not found any documentation for the second. Does anyone know how it can be used?

I would like to modify the Status Bar description that is set in the InitMeter action with the UpdateMeter action. Is there any way to do this? For example:

syscmd(acSysCmdUpateMeter, "Part 1", n)

syscmd(acSysCmdUpateMeter, "Part 2", n)

Thanks for your help

Barcode Reader

May 10, 2006

Hi all,
I am trying to use a barcode reader with an Access database. The raw data is a linked table to a Crystal Report Excel dump that is updated daily. My problem, the raw data “Asset Tag” field is numbers only. The barcode has the needed numbers but is preceded by “PC”.

Example:
Raw data Asset Tag “12064621”
Barcode Asset Tag ”PC12064621”

Is there a way to remove the “PC” from the scanned “lookup” field?

Objective:
Scan the barcode tag into the form, bringing up all related information on that Asset.

Apr 7, 2008

Looking at creating a database that looks up records based on a number from a magnetic card. Has anyone ever come across any code that will pull the info from the serial port? I have been looking for 2 days and not able to find anything. I have the card reader but do not have any software to get the info from the serial port and my limted coding does not even come close to what I need. Any help or a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Review - Table Design - Meter Reading / Adjustments

Aug 3, 2005

I am working on a database to keep track of meter readings from several meters. Am at the table design stage and have come up with two seperate table designs but am wondering what would be best.

Each individual 'Meter' tracks more than one 'Fuel'. All of the regular meter readings should occur on the last day of the the month. The difference between the current month's reading and the reading from the previous month is the usage for the current month.

Though rare, there are occasions when there could be adjustments to the meter. A meter may be reset to 0 or to any other number due to a number of issues (replacement, maintenance).

The usage for a Meter-Fuel combination calculated by the current meter reading & previuos meter reading is assigned to current readings' date, As readings should onlt be taken at the end of the month, all other readings should be adjustments ONLY!

Here is my one version;

tblMeter
MeterID (PK)
strMeterDesc

tblFuel
FuelID(PK)
strFuelDesc

tblMeterReadings
MeterReadingID (PK)
dtMeterReading
MeterID (FK)
FuelID (FK)
dblMeterReading

tblMeterReadings
MeterReadingID (PK)
dtMeterReading
MeterID (FK)
FuelID (FK)
dblMeterReading

tblMeterAdjustments
MeterAdjustmentID (PK)
dtMeterAdjustment
MeterID (FK)
FuelID (FK)
dblMeterReadingOLD
dblMeterReadingNEW

My other idea was to incorporate meter adjustments into tblMeterReadings and not have a sepereate table for meter adjustments

tblMeterReadings
MeterReadingID (PK)
dtMeterReading
MeterID (FK)
FuelID (FK)
dblMeterReading
blnAdjustment

The I would create a multi-field index of dbMeterReading, MeterID, FuelID, blnAdjustment.

So data with an adjustment may look like this

dtMeterReading, MeterID, FuelID, dblMeterReading, blnAdjustment
01/31/2005, 1, 1, 900, False
02/15/2005, 1, 1, 1000, False
02/15/2005, 1, 1, 0, True
02/31/2005, 1, 1, 100 , False

I think that the second version is the way to go, since I would still have to create a query to join data from both the reading and adjustment tables in the first design that would look like the data above.

Here what I consider to be the drawbacks to either table structure

Version 1
The first version requires more complicated queries to calculate the difference between meter readings.

Version 2
The second version will require some coding/querying to make sure that there are always two adjustment records for one date and determining which is the pre-adjustment and post-adjustment meter reading since it may not be true that the meter is reset to zero; it may even be set at number higher than the pre-adjectment reading.

Any thoughts on which design is better? Or any problems I could run into later with designing forms/queries/reports that perhaps I have not thought through?

THANKS!

General :: Creating PDF From Report Opens Adobe Reader

Mar 18, 2015

Since converting to Access 2010, when I use the "PDF or XPS" button to create a PDF from a report, after the save dialog it opens the PDF in Adobe reader, and then after I close it there is another dialog with the option to save the export steps. Is there any way to just be able to save the PDF and go back to where I was without having to do the extra clicks to get back?

Back in Access 2000 I had created a custom button on a toolbar that would automatically make a PDF from the open report, but that didn't transfer over when I converted the database to 2010.

Equipment And Personnel Check In And Out Database Using Barcode Reader

Jul 31, 2013

My desired output of this is to have a database to allow me to quickly check in and out equipment and personnel using a barcode scanner. I am using access 2013 and started with the asset tracking template downloaded from Microsoft. Where I am hung up right now is adding the personnel check in and out (each member of the team will have a barcode attached to their id) I want to be able to just scan their badge when they show up and again when they leave. At the end I will run a report that shows who was on scene (it is for a search and rescue team) during a certain day or time range.

I have added two new tables one check in and one check out the only fields are firedeptID and CheckIn or CheckOut a date/time field CheckIn and CheckOut Auto populatewith Now(). The first problem is that I think I need to turn off (if possible)the auto creation of a new record every time, when I scan in an ID right now that record gets the time stamp of the last time the new record was created IE.Last week when the last person scanned in and the new record was created. I assume I am going the same type of issue when I start working on checking out the equipment.

Automated Access Launch Causing Access Window To Fail To Hide

Jul 10, 2006

Hi,
I have been using "fSetAccessWindow (SW_HIDDEN)" in the open event of my
main switchboard to hide the grey Access screen from being visible behind
forms, reports, etc in this db. But when I started using a .vbs script file
to launch the db, the Access window stopped being hidden. (The reason I use
the script for launching is that it temporarily sets the db's security level
to 1 which stops the macro security warning from coming up.) Apparently MS
knows about this happening and released a technique to rectify the situation,
but I don't understand their instructions. It looks like they expect one to
have more understanding than I have. Could someone help me get this
impliemented? Here is the article:

Using Access's User And Group Accounts Or Using A Login Form To Access Database?

Sep 9, 2005

Using Access's User and Group Accounts or Using a Login Form to access database?

I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.

I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.

My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?

But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?

Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.

How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.

Thanks in advance.

Locking User Access To Database Objects (MS Access 2000 And 2003)

Apr 15, 2007

I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.

the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).

the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.

but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.

The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.

I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

I have a data entry entry form, that i want to generate success message after successful insert in database. I have done it in the button event if no error happens, still if i left all fields blank and clicked save, it displays the message ..

I need to change that to display please fill the textboxes then click save , and display success message when the row is actually inserted ..

Forms :: Multi Select Listbox Access 2003 Code Gives Syntax Error In MS Access 2010

Oct 24, 2013

I've been using the following code successfully in Access 2003 & now I need to migrate to Access 2010. The purpose of the code is to use the items that the user selects in the list box to build the criteria of a query. Access 2010 keeps giving me a syntax error when I try to run the query & I don't know why:

My code is:

On Error GoTo Err_Command151_Click

' Declare variables
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim strCriteria As String
Dim strSQL As String

[Code] .....

The syntax error I get in Access 2010 is:

Syntax Error in query expression 'SELECT * FROM
qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK WHERE
qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK.Rep ortableName IN('Adbri
Masonry NSW');'

Table Problems Moving From Access 2003 -> Access 2007

Jun 19, 2007

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.

However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.

My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

Importing Excel To Access Keeping Relationships In Access Tables

Sep 13, 2007

I have a stock control database which i have nearly completed. This has Manufacturer, which is linked to products, which is linked to Sub Product(which also has field partCode). i.e. Manufacturer1 can have 3 products, and each of these products could have 5 subsystems and partcodes. Each partcode is unique to that subsystem/product/manufacturer.

I then have a pricing spreadsheet in excel, which has many tabs. A new column has been added for each item for Manufacturer,Product,Subsystem and Partcode.

I need to import these manufacturers, products, subsystems and partcodes, but into the tables with the correct relationships, i.e. product1 and product2 are products of manufacturer1 and so cannot come under manufacturer2, and so on.

I hope this makes sense, Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Subform Referenceing Problem Between Access 2000 And Access 2003

Apr 19, 2005

I am working on a massave aplication that has been running in Access 2000, but recently several of the file sharing users have installed Access 2003 because of the limited availability of Access 2000. All the users are using the same file off the server.

The problem we are having is that when we reference a subform in the "[Forms]![FormName]![SubformName]![FeildName]" Access 2003 does not recognize it and returns an error. I have found that if I will modify it to "[Forms]![FormName]![SubformName].[Form]![FeildName]" it is recognized in both 2000 and 2003.

To try and change every instance of a subform reference will take forever and I am garuteed to overlook something. We reference subforms all over our program, missing any one of them would be a disaster. Before I went to the tedious task of looking through everything I just wanted to throw the situation out there and see if any of you had any great ideas on how to get it fixed efficiently. I would apreciate any ideas.

General :: Only Open MS Access Form Without Access Running In Background?

Aug 7, 2013

I have made a form on access which will be used by other employees within the company, however they have never used access before and they are wanting to access only just the form as I feel with Access and all the tools in the background will confuse them, plus I don't want them editing the data base its self.

Is there a way to only bring up the form, unless I obviously need to edit the date base.

I've done some research on Google and it seems I need to use:

SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE

However I can not seem to find how I would use this or where?

and also if i did find a way to only bring up the form, how would I be able to switch it from that veiw to the veiw I edit in?
