Modules & VBA :: ASCII And Sendkeys - Put Full Stop In The Field
Jan 15, 2015
I have a Combo box which contains a set of numbers divided by "."
e.g.: 1.342567.24433
When looking for a certain code, I would like to use the number pad to enter the first few e.g. 1.34 to move to the Position. In Previous Versions of Access I had a function on the key
If KeyAscii = 44 Then
DoCmd.CancelEvent 'stop the comma keypress being updated
SendKeys ".", True 'put a full stop in the field
End If
This worked fine, but in Access 7 and up, it turns off the number lock.
Is there an alternative to sendkeys to achieve the above or a way of directly turning the number lock on again?
I am writing the following piece of code to be called again and again after 30 min. But I need to do invisible mouse move to stop screen saver occurring so i want to sendkeys after every 5 minutes. The Sub abc is in module and everything works except stopping screensaver from occurring.
Code: Private Sub UserForm_Initialize() 'Update the Barcodes printed today Call CommandButton1_Click 'Update batches to be scanned / batches scanned today Call CommandButton3_Click
I have a problem that is Vista related. My business partner has just purchased a laptop with Vista and one of the problem areas is SendKeys. I don't have Vista and he is away at the moment so we only have part time communication so I am trying a few solutions in the hope of getting the problem fixed.
He is getting a message along the line of.....Access needs to be reinstalled because SendKeys is not available.....he does not has his MSOffice with him so that can't be tried at the moment, although everything else is working OK.
There are a few macros involved but I have converted then into VB Module and that works OK for me on XP, although it does not carry out all instructions but it basically works. But it will be a few days before he can try what I have sent him.
Note: I just notice that my conversion to VB module is not doing the SendKeys. No messages etc it is if the section covering SendKeys was not there. The example below was done with XP and macro. The SendKeys and the various other actions are all in the module. Edit...All is OK....my conversion of the macros to a module worked:D
So I would like to try another possible solution and that being to avoid SendKeys.
The situation involves a file note entry system. Each file note creates a different record and in each record there is a memo field with the file note that was made and of course time and date.
There is another table that holds one record for each person that has a file note made. Whether one file note is made or a 100 file notes there is only record.......The record is created when the first file note is made and the table will not accept duplicates on the persons ID number.
When a file note is made the system then opens the record in the other table and adds with SendKeys to the entry in the memo field on the "one record only table"
A form opened on the "one record" looks like this and as you can see the contents of the memo field from the "many records" have been combined into one. Can I do this without using SendKeys

I have an update query (thanks nofriends ) that I execute from VB code when closing a form. As you know, you get prompted if you really want to run the update, and then if you want to continue after it tells you how many rows are updated.
I used Sendkeys "{Enter}", True and Sendkeys "{Enter}
In both cases the action of the enter key was not automatically executed. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
Im trying to programmatically (without any user intervention) retrieve the long path name for a given file. It seems to me this should be a rather easy thing to achieve using Access VBA. Ive tried using various FileSystemObject methods with no luck. Ive Googled many variants of VBA get full path without any meaningful hits. provide the first string as a parameter to some object and have it magically return the second string.
In a form's VBA code, I'd like to know whether a full record has been selected, like when the user selects one or more rows before deleting with the Del key.
Is this possible?
According to [URL]......, Me.SelHeight returns the number of rows that have been selected within the selection rectangle. If I select a rectangle of cells in Datasheet view, for example, Me.SelHeight will be > 0 even though full records have not been selected. I want to know how many full records have been selected. Is this possible?
I have a text field that has a full name (ie. Smith, John). I need to somehow split this into a first and last name...or at least reverse the order for a mailing list.
I have some queries that I created in 97 and convert to Access 2000.
However, when I go to query DESIGN view, I would like to see all the contents of long functions (iif) that I wrote for some fields as a result of running the query, but each field only shows a portion of it (as if it was truncated). I also use the "Zoom..." of that field or Shift+F2, still the same thing, only shows portion of it, the last portion was truncated.
Do any of you know HOW to show all, so I can check and revise if I need to, pllllllease.
I tried this code to change the label to display the full name of the state on the form. Is there a shorter way than putting 49 more states after the if?
[CODE]Private Sub cmdStates_Click() DoCmd.OpenForm "frmChurchesAll" DoCmd.ApplyFilter "qryFindState" lblTxtSt = txtState If txtState = "FL" Then lblTxtSt = "Florida" End If lblTxtSt.BackColor = 15658720 lblTxtSt.Visible = True lblStatesof.Visible = True lbAllChurches.Visible = False End Sub /CODE] D7
Here is the snippet from this company that explains how this file is delimited.
Each field is delimited by character 127, DEL. Try typing this by holding the alt key, then pressing 0,1,2,7 in sequence. Try representing it with your favourite programming language with "x7F".
Using Access I want to run the import wizard but am unable to specify this delimeter. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.
I have a string that includes mm/dd/yyyy + person's name. All of this is concatenated and is recognized as a text value. Then I want to convert all of these characters to a number. Since each character has an ASCII code, I would like to find ASCII equivalent.
In Excel, this would involve using something like the CODE ( ) function, but that only gives the numerical equivalent for the first character in the string, but I want all characters at once.
When I try the VAL ( ) function, it returns the first character which is the number of the month.
Custom filter I'm trying to set up. I have a data full of records with multiple columns and a form linked up to it. The form has a search box that works as well as navigation buttons.
Currently I am trying to get a filter to work. The filter will use up to five combo foxes to narrow down the fields, then return the filtered records after clicking a button. The button itself is where my code is. My issue now though is I cannot get the filter to work if I try to use more than one combo box.
The code I have at the moment is as follows: '------------------------------------------------------------ ' cmdApplyFilter_Click ' '------------------------------------------------------------ Private Sub cmdApplyFilter_Click()
End SubThe current error I am getting is Error 13: Type mismatch. I also know that the And might be the cause but I cannot change it to AND: it keeps changing back.
I tried this but dont know how to stop the timer...I want to run the code that changes the Form color but want to be able to stop the Timer and reset it to start over..Will this timer work? Almost like an auction timer. But want to be able to reset the code at any stage...
Code: Public Sub ExcelTimer() Dim PauseTime, Start, Finish
when i change records, my subform that has a memo field, shows the memo field data is "highlighted". i can make a mistake and hit any keyboard key and the memo field data will get erased.
is there a way to prevent such a problem?
if not, is there a work around. eg, hide the memo field until needed for more input? ideas on both issues?
So, it just converts it to ASCII; however, when I go to scan it, it actually reads that information also. I need the 1E, 1D, and 04 to actually be scanned as HEX for the validation to occur for our client.
Is it possible using an Access query to return these desired results? If not, I will have to look atother piece of software to produce the bar code labels.
Code: Private Sub Form_Timer() Dim LocalTime, StartWindow, EndWindow As Date LocalTime = Format(TimeValue(Now()), "hh:mm") StartWindow = #11:46:00 AM# EndWindow = #11:48:00 AM# Dim Response
[Code] ....
The intent is to run automated back end maintenance activities while giving the user the option to delay it if they're in the middle of something.
My logic is as follows:
If it's between these two times, ask the user if the maintenance can run. If user says yes, run maintenance. If user says no shift the two times to the right and ask again in a few minutes.
As it is written, when I chose no I get an hourglass icon and if I try to do anything else Windows tells me Access isn't responding. I'm guessing that Access is hanging since I've initiated the Do Until and then stalled it by telling it to wait 3 minutes before it goes to the next step. I suspect that if I waited it out, when the new Startwindow hit I would be asked about running the maintenance again.
My issue is that I need the database to remain responsive to whatever the user needs to do while I wait to ask about running maintenance again. Therefore, I don't think Do Until is my answer - at least not the way I've implemented it.
The will ultimately be set on a 10 minute timer interval and start/end window will be 01:00 and 01:15 AM respectively. The times you see above are there for testing so I can see what happens.
This code puts pdf reports into a folder . I am prompted for a number via the query I run because I have more than one report the query asks me 3 times. Could this be modified so I only get prompted once for all the reports in the code
On Error GoTo Err_Handler Const FOLDER_EXISTS = 75 Const MESSAGE_TEXT1 = "No current invoice." Const MESSAGE_TEXT2 = "No folder set for storing PDF files." Dim strFullPath As String
I have created a query with the parameter for the Domain field. however on the form the user enters this information via a drop down menu. i was just wondering could the parameter box be set to a drop down box as well to save the user entering in the full Domain field name?
I'm using an append query that needs to add the records from another database into a table. I can get it to get the data and add the records. There are other columns in the database that are not in the one the data is pulled from. If I would run the append query again, it would add the same records again at the end. How can I avoid this? I only need to add new records that are not yet in the database I want to pull the records to.
I was wondering if there's a way to set objects so that they don't get pushed down if an object above is set as Yes in the CanGrow property?can a report be split into columns?
I have been asked to replicate a form (previously written up on Word) which has two columns of information. As luck would have it all the fixed fields are on the Left hand side, so that part doesn't need (or want) to grow, However, the Right hand side has several sub-reports which can display 1-5 records each.
So if any of the sub reports show more than 1 record, they push down everything below it, but this includes the Left hand objects, creating gaps and often pushing the report onto 2 pages.
I need to stop already ran procedure or function with vba code . So I use END command ans everything stops.. in some cases that is useful, but some times need I to do something else after I use END command, but after END everything stops...
LIKE THIS :
SUB () END ME.CTL.SETFOCUS 'OR CALL function EXIT SUB
I have a need to convert the export of an Access report to an ASCII file.
The export needs to have a specific format - described below:
Field Position | Field Length | Field Name | Field format
1-6 | 6 | Member # | text - right justified 7-12 | 6 | Trans Date | YYMMDD 13-15 | 3 | Pay code | Alpha/ NUM - Left 16-26 | 11 | Amount | -9999999.99 (*) 64-71 | 8 | Check # | Right
general comments and questions:
This report needs to interface with some sort of transaction accounting system - No Idea what it is, but this format of the report will interface.
The field positions go from 1 to 73. I need only supply the data above, so the check # is way out of sequence. Do I need to have the space inbetween "Amount" and Check Number in the report? Will a simple text file work with all the fieds together? or will I need the space in there? Is there a way to design a report in an ASCII format in access?
Specific Questions
I think I need to change the format of the amount and date fields. I am currently using the short date format 8/30/04, but need to return the date as YYMMDD - 040830. How can I change this format to reflect the ASCII format. The form is also set with the default "=Date()" so the user doesn't have to enter the date everytime - it can also be edited for older data. I would like the date to appear the way it is on the form 08/30/04 but get entered to the table as 040830. Is there a way to do that?
The amount field is odd - I'll include the exact criteria that is desired:
"All Amount Fields must be right justified and space filled. If the amount is a credit, show the "-" sign at the beginning of the number. Payment should be entered as positive amounts. If zero, assign the fied as 0.00 (space filled)"
Is this just a mask that needs to be added? Currently, The field shows $7.00 when 7 is entered to add cent, you must type in 7.50, tab will put in the "$". I need to get rid of the $ and space fill the field?
Hi, I've got a close button on my form as follows: Private Sub exitForm_Click() DoCmd.Close End Sub
In the beforeupdate event of the form I have have following code to validate the forms fields:
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) 'Place an asterisk (*) in the Tag Property of the text boxes you wish to validate. 'Then in the BeforeUpdate Event of the form, copy/paste the following:
Dim msg As String, Style As Integer, Title As String Dim nl As String, ctl As Control
nl = vbNewLine & vbNewLine
For Each ctl In Me.Controls If ctl.ControlType = acTextBox Then If ctl.Tag = "*" And Trim(ctl & "") = "" Then msg = "Data Required for '" & ctl.Name & "' field!" & nl & _ "You can't save this record until this data is provided!" & nl & _ "Enter the data and try again . . . " Style = vbCritical + vbOKOnly Title = "Required Data..." MsgBox msg, Style, Title ctl.SetFocus Cancel = True Exit For End If End If Next End Sub
This validation works fine up to a point. If I try to close the form and a required field is empty, I get a message box asking me to fill in the data. The problem is that when I click ok to the message, it shuts down the form, so I have to re-enter all the data again. My question is how do I prevent the form from closing after clicking ok on the message box?
